I think technically all OSs, in their pure form, are considered AOSP. Once Samsung, Motorola, LG, and HTC get their hands on it it's considered TouchWiz, MotoBlur, ???, Sense.
Anyway. Excited to see it being uploaded to the Git servers... i just wish i had the knowledge to make my own OS.

It isn't technically AOSP until the source is released. Otherwise it is actually still closed source.

I think he's referring to the fact that ICS source has now been released, and therefore is now part of the Android Open Source Project.

Also, I really hope this will be the only thread about it in this section. I can see 10 other people making the same thread by days end lol.

That one couldn't have been based off anything other than a system dump from the galaxy nexus and the ICS SDK. It would be incomplete at best. Not to knock the work being done on it, but the dev(s) only had so much to work with. We have SOURCE CODE now. So exciting.

Listen up pal, lemme help ya a bit.... (To be honest, re-reading your post, and again reading, I can't make heads or tails of what your asking. Will ICS be an available base for Inspire Devs to work with? Is that closer to what your suggesting, or asking?)
When the Inspire was released it was running Froyo, and when GB leaked the Devs with thier almighty wizardry developed a Rom(s) based on GB that could be flashed on rooted phones. Then HTC provided OTA updates for folks not rooted, which in turn gave most (all) Inspire users a Gingerbread based Sense Rom. Now that may not be all perfectly explained, but maybe it will help you to reassess how your question or statement is asked.....
Check this out. Opened a new Tab - Googled Ice Cream Shop Android and there it was.
Google wants ICS rolling out soon to compete with Apple - and it will be an available upgrade for existing smartphone users capable of running 2.3 (or 2.2 don't remember) They want all capable Android devices to be able to integrate with this new OS. SO my bet is this, once it drops those wacky wizards will be all over it - and a rooted user will see it before HTC pushes it out OTA
Edit: Your not grasping this the right way mate, so let me sum it up better. It's not a question (referring to thread title) of is ICS for HTC. ICS is an Android OS, which means its for Android powered devices. HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc will use ICS for thier newest ANDROID powered devices, following that will probably be the dev versions, then official OTAs will follow - HOPEfully. Damn. That was tough........ ....... ...... .......
Sorry for the confusing question.
In other words, you're saying that all android phones (Running Sense or other OS) will be updated ICS?

Sense isn't an OS. Its a UI. Sense is built on top of android OS 's like 2.2.1, 2.3.3. The HTC inspire will not be getting ICS. But as an EXAMPLE if it did, the OS would be ICS and sense would be built on top of it as a UI.

Lol, no apology necessary bud, but please don't be offended when I say you really should read a little something or other (Google "What is HTC Sense UI") to better inform yourself about your Phone. One last try bud - here we go. Ready?
Android powers your phone. Sense is a UI (user interface) which allows you to navigate through your phones OS or Operating System. Think of it like this bud - if Google is your car - Sense is the steering wheel. So if you go and buy another Inspire, The O.S. will be Gingerbread, How you will tell the OS what to do next, will be Sense. If that doesn't answer anything - then its someone else's turn...

I was just asking your opinion on this and my battery died. They said ICS would support devices less than a year old. So we know the Devs will get thier hands on it, but it might be in HTCs interest to upgrade as Google is wanting a multi-device compatibility and interaction like iPhone, IPad, etc.... What I hope doesn't happen is HTC holding out an Update solely to encourage upgrading.

Sorry if this is a dumb question. As i dont know how Roms come to be or how people port stuff from one phone to another etc.
But my question is, once Android 4.0 is released with the Prime. Will there be Android 4.0 Roms for the G2X. And if so... Will it take long?
If there wont be. I might have to switch to Verizon and get the Prime.

Yes, i'm sure once ICS source code is available our devs will port it over to our devices. With ICS being delayed probaly till end of November it's just a waiting game now...
I dont think it will take too long. I guess it depends how fast the devs get it and create one.
I had a Milestone 2 with a locked bootloader and it finally got Gingerbread but I think G2x is unlocked and easy to create.
Im sure it wont take no time to Cyanogenmod to stark working on ICS
I'm sure we'll get it. Thanks to guys like faux and the cm team, we already have an aosp base. I'm sure there will be drivers that need to be written/re-written, and bugs to work out, but we'll get it. Plus, I'd put money on the fact that once the source code for ics is released, the cm team will start integrating the newer version into cyanogenmod. We probably won't get it right away, and we definitely won't get it officially from lg or tmobile, but I'm sure we'll get it eventually.
Once CM8 is released, it should be released on the G2x along with other devices. I just hope we can disable the software Home & Menu keys.

Android 4.0 is suppose to be compatible with all android devices within 2 years old, and manufactures have agreements with Google that there should be official releases on all these devices. I highly doubt that will happen.
Also, the next Nexus device, by whatever name, won't be exclusively Verizon. It may for a period, but the FCC Documents show that it does in fact HAVE AT&T/Global AND T-Mobile 3G/4G bands, and no LTE.
Wait for official announcements on the phone, but I can guarantee the G2x will have 4.0 one way or another.
The agreement to update all devices for 18 months its for devices released post-ics. We're not eligible, though we will probably get CM8.

from what I hear MR. CM himself uses the g2x as his personal device so I think it will happen prety fast probally faster than others. I could be wrong about that I read it on a fourm when the g2x was still new. You never know how reliable those sources are.
I heard he got a job with Samsung. Though I speculate nVidia will release drivers since so many devices use the T2 soc
Not too worried since the g2x community has a lot of talented and smart developers already
I would expect an official upgrade as well though, seriously its a google experience phone, while not the top selling it has the specs and what not to get the upgrade.

so samsung announced the unveiling of the nexus prime: october 19. i was watching a video on huffington post and it was talking about different handsets being announced through different manufacturers and carriers, all running ICS. it really made it sound like ICS is going to be a selective update and that some phones may not be getting it.
what do you think the odds of the g2x getting this update are? i'm slightly annoyed that the prime is being released shortly after i bought my g2x. i figured we would have another droid bionic situation and be waiting months for the prime. i'm going to be even more annoyed if the g2x is another tmobile forgotten device.
thoughts?
source: huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/14/android-ice-cream-sandwich-release-date_n_1010973.html
I doubt we will get an update, but eventually we'll get a system dump of ICS & the devs here will make it better than what it is.
I have a feeling it's not going to get it. It's a great phone, but T-Mobile just doesn't seem to be pushing it very hard. There is a small chance that this phone will get ICS, but I wouldn't hold my breath. We'll most likely have to wait for the developers here to get their hands on it before we get it.
Well,i donr think we will get an update. But I'm okay . Miui have the apn fix now, so I'm happy with my g2x lolz
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
LG will never update this phone ever again. Gingerbread was an absolute fiasco and they have washed their hands of the G2X. We'll probably get CM8 though, and just like with 7 devs will use that as a springboard to create all kinds of things.
CM8 is better than any update a carrier can provide us with.

Dude what is your problem? And no AOSP ROMs are not totally dependant on CM. The CM ROMs are just very popular because they are very good AOSP ROMs that are usually tweaked to the max. Do you even know what AOSP means I think not or you would know that anyone can download the source could and build a AOSP ROM. Educate yourself next time so you will not embarass yourself.
ics ics ics ics ics
I know its going to take some time till a ROM is built but how long till we get some apps ported like the new launcher and messenger.....etc.

That's the way MIUI has been doing all their official v4 releases. It's called patchrom. By doing it that way, they don't have to really on there being a developed aosp base, which can help the roms be released sooner. Downside is the zips are like double the size, and it's not an aosp ROM anymore
