Wonder if others are running the ICS sdk port? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love it! Since wifi started working it has been my daily for a few weeks. There's not much talk on beezy's forum. Not much here. Seems like with a new version there be more buzz.

same here. at least im waiting until it gets dropped into aosp, and gets compiled into a real rom, not a sdk port.

I ran beta 6 for a few hours and quickly reverted back. The change from an ultra-fast, feature rich and stable rom to a slow and buggy one is unbearable.

been using beta12 3G. had allot of FC's with some sytsem apps and the market

I'm using B12 since 2 days ago, it's not perfect but right now I'm too lazy to switch back, hoping the ICS source gets dropped in 3 days.
For a temporary ROM, it works though. It's moderately fast, 95% of my apps work and all the system functions work as they should. I use it as a daily ROM for calling, texting, browsing,... thank god I don't use bluetooth that often but other then that, it's good.
I'm surprised by how fast the SDK port actually is (you know, for being a port). It gives me a positive feeling about the performance of ICS on our devices.
Greetz

ICS code is out

Me as well is waiting for the official, but I like playing around with all the solid features in it. Haha. Like rotation animation and such.

Why flash roms?

So I was just wondering why would we flash roms? I mean the current stock os is almost bug free + when flashing roms we are faced with some major bugs sometimes.
I know that we would have the choice to remove bloatware, cutomise status bar, and sometime oc. That's all nice but still I don't see why not leave it as is?
Please excuse my ignorance. I just came from a rooted Dinc w/ miui
And I wanna have a better understanding.

For me it's the freedom to do with my phone what I want. These developers kick out some sweet features that we'll never see from a stock ROM, and they get us the latest software before the manufacturers. I bug here or there is well worth it for me, and if it's to bad you can always revert. If you prefer the stock experience, than by all means leave it alone. But me, I'm a tinkerer. Be it a car, truck, bike... or yes, even a phone, I can't leave well enough alone.
Because we can
To pick up chicks......I haven't met one yet that's not turned on by 48+ mflops!
Can't do that with stock.....
This might seem like an odd answer... I flash so I can have a standard interface on my phones. I've had a droid, droid x, and thunderbolt in the last year and a half (my company does some android development on in house apps for one of our clients, and we go through a lot of test phones). having something close to a stock interface minimizes the daily annoyances of moving between those phones.... which is why I use the aosp roms.

Currently I am using the one from hacksung that is in beta 3 and it is working pretty well. I've been using it since last night and it has been completly usable. But I see there is another one that is in beta 1 and was just wondering if it was worth a try.

I personally like Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream
But Team hacksung's rom is not beta 3, its build 3.....Its still alpha....
whereas the other one is beta 1..
I think you should try both, as both seems to be working great for different people....Both have some bugs which will take some time to resolve...
I'm currently on hacksung's, i was on one of the last alpha builds for onecosmics for a couple days but I'm having far more luck on hacksungs. Onecosmics build had more issues and took a lot more effort to get up and running on my cappy, also ran slower with more lag. It also had more little bugs in my testing, but that was also a couple builds ago. If you're really curious you could try both or just wait till a couple builds down the line when they're almost fully functioning. Both are great dev's who are just awesome for sticking with our sgs
Using onecosmic's beta 2 now. Has some irritating DPI issues that beta 1 didn't have, but other than that, the only things I can identify as "broken" are the video recorder and video playback in the gallery (which actually works, but obviously isn't hardware accelerated). Other than those two, everything seems to work out of the box.

There truly isn't a beta 2 for the Captivate yet, as ytt3r hasn't done the kernel yet... most fixes are done in the kernel not the ROM itself...

I think I'm just gonna stay with the hacksungs for the rest of the week just because its working really well I think. But this weekend I'm gonna try some other roms out that use ics and see which I like best. Alsi any of you guys on hacksung get a keyboard lag when typing using this app. I mean its not really a big deal a all but I was just wondering if it is only me. And one more question if u guys lock your phone and then press the volume and power buttons do you get a wierd reactionc from hour phone. +1 any time a change is made whether it is as minor as adding a font change or as major as adding a complete revamp it is still an update therefore can be changed from beta 1 to 2
I'm running beta 2 right now and the dpi issue is fixed easily with a build prop fix but so far I'm loving it runs very smooth what brought me to this version is teamhacksungs listed a lot more issues than onesonics version (although most have been fixed) but try both and judge for yourself any ROM is different for every user
The Captivate kernel still hasn't been updated to Beta 2, so try again guys... why do I have to keep on saying this to everyone!?! most fixes are done in the kernel, not the ROM.

Then you should argue with the devs to change it to beta 1 if that is your answer. Or, don't argue at all because obviously you are right and you know it.

I've been on Hacksungs ICS for a couple of days. Running pretty smooth. Yes i'ts got it's glitches but that's understandible being in the early stages. Waiting anxiosly for build 4. Flashing from CM7 was a breeze.
Keep up the great work DEVS.
A summary matrix of what's there and a count of satisfied users BY WEEK would be great. A poll?
I See ICSSGS and ITL41D. What others?
Arguing over Alpha/Beta/Release.. is not very helpful, as some may have a more optimistic view on their team's progress made thus far. The user perspective which will evolve week to week is what really will matter.

Post ICS launch, which ROM are you using and Why. ICS or JB

First, thanks to the Devs working on the CM9 and CM10 ROMs. They are looking good.
I just wanted to see which ROMs you guys were using primarily now. I jumped from GB right to CM10 from dr4stic. I'm pretty happy with it so far.
Are you guys using JB, or sticking with a flavor of ICS?
I'm using Blaz3r 4.0.4 by ptmr3 and I couldn't be happier. I like TouchWiz, and a lot of the stock widgets so this one fits me just fine.
Oh that's right, I forgot about TouchWiz
Stock ICS by tthaz777, I love it. I miss Tweaked (GB), but I want to run ICS and need wi-fi calling. I also loaded CM10 but downgraded back to 4.0.4

Drove 300 miles today used GPS, Looked at Google now 20 times to see how far away I was from home. I used the bluetooth to talk and play some tunes as well. I really like using a stock camera and the Samsung messaging is sweet. Only thing I can say if you use this, it seemed to take longer than 10 minutes to settle in ( I also have gone back and fixed permissions when adding apps) +1

Funny that I used ...ahem... used to have a skinomi screen protector on my Blaze but for some reason after 2 months in it started developing weird bubbles/lines that weren't present even days after installation so I took it off. That was over a month ago now and no scratches. I'm unsure if gorilla glass is used on this phone as I can't find any conclusive evidence on what it is. Maybe I got a bad skinomi, as my old exhibit and my wife's sensation have skinomi's and are still perfect. Just make sure you are ready and have the phone spotless or you will see those same dust spots for a long time lol.

I was really impressed with CM10 but sadly the random MAC address issue along with the lack of wifi calling (a CM issue in general) made me go back to Blaz3r. I'm sure CM10 development will chug along and it's hard to deny the feel of it - I may be going back to it soon (especially once hardware key notifications are fixed - I miss a notification light). You will have bugs/slowdowns on Blaz3r until getting titanium on it solely to remove Nova launcher. A reinstall of nova fixes it and I'm sure this is something that will be fixed (along with adding a default music player) with the next version. There are a few customization options but I would like more - kind of like the amount of customization options in DK on GB lol Development overall is really great here and there are plenty of options considering how long it's been since source dropped.

Help me choose a rom

Number 1 for me is stability. I am looking for a Rom that fully works or for the most part everything is working. Full camera functionality/flash, Sending and receiving SMS & MMS, GPS (I use navigation often), making and receiving calls, all the basic stuff that work on stock. Stability is my main objective. Second would be battery life & fluidity. Everything else like customization options is a nice bonus
I expected the Jelly Bean OTA to be better than it was. I did a factory reset when I got the update to make sure my phone started fresh. Even formatted internal and external SD card. I just expected a better experience. They took away some things I loved and added some things I don't like. But the main thing that bothers me is the occasional stutter/lag. And I notice battery life is worst on the JB OTA. I thought JB was suppose to be refined, it's not totally buttery smooth like they promote it to be. At least not on the stock Verizon variant of the GS3.
I am looking at "The Executioner" or the CleanRom/CleanRom Lite Edition. Any opinions or thoughts by people who have ran both would be appreciated!! I realize roms, as most things in life are a personal preference but I'd still like to get some opinions.

People spend hours putting together guides, doing reviews, etc. It's frustrating sometimes to see how little effort some people put into utilizing the forum.
It works both ways. These boards would be alot less cluttered if people searched. We're all guilty of it, I'm not preaching. Just know where he coming from.
For example there's a great guide in the android development forum that compares many different roms.

All those satisfied with g2x GTFIH

Now i know LG abandoned this ship. I'm just as pissed off as the next guy about that one. I wouldn't mind an official jb or at least an ics update. But either way, I'm honestly quite satisfied with this phone and its performance. I'm running standard cm7 nightlies (latest) with Trinity t15 kernel and wolf script mod. Battery life is decent and bad when i whore wifi but that's the biggest iissue with my g2x. With all the hate threads around this forum there have to be others who have positive experiences with this device.
This phone is awesome. Since I started carrying around my portable nuclear power plant all my battery issues are gone.
Seriously though, if you use the phone the battery will drop. That is a law of physics you can't avoid. My problem with this phone was that with stock ROM the battery dropped a lot even when I did absolutely nothing. CM7 solved that, so I am happy.
I still don't get sufficient standby life so I am working on fixing an old HTC amaze (fixed bootloop, now waiting for screen to arrive). My wife's amaze can get over 4 days of standby and I just noticed that she has not rebooted it in close to 400 hours.
-- The noob says:
Believe you me... Apple suggested LG for Nexus 4
4 days of standby time? Sorry this is the g2x forum I don't know what that means.
Lol that's crazy!
I have about six months left until I'm available for an upgrade. Thinking the new s4, razor or nexus.
I agree this is still a pretty slick phone. I'm loving the dual boot setup with CM7/Trinity ELP as my runner and CM10.1 as my gaming/test platform. I'd probably be way more disappointed with the phone if I was stuck with stock software, but thanks to the awesome devs and their work I'm very happy with this phone.

Lol that's crazy!
I have about six months left until I'm available for an upgrade. Thinking the new s4, razor or nexus.

I will try to take a snapshot and post it here for the disbelievers ... lol.

Believe you me... Apple suggested LG for Nexus 4
I am currently running cm7 with Mazout360's kernel and wolfscript. I have themed my phone to be as similar to ICS/JB as possible, as that was the only way I could return to GB. I am very content with how it turned out.
In the end, I have accepted that I will probably never have fully functioning ICS or JB on this phone. But, I guess all that I was really looking for was that updated look and crisp feel, which I have since obtained!
Although I will move on to some sort of Nexus when I have better funding, I am satisfied with the g2x.
The only problem I seem to have with cm7 is this noticeable static flicker that appears very quickly after turning on the display. It only seems to do that with cm7 roms.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but is it possible to get the jellybean notification bar on gingerbread? Like with notifications you can swipe away and quick message replies to texts and all that. That might be the only thing keeping me on jellybean right now because I love the way it feels so intuitive and such.

I can swipe away notifications, that's something GB can do already I think. As for quick replys to messages and emails and such, I don't think so.
At least as far as I know.
I miss those features too, but I guess we can't have everything.
There are apps for pop up notifications though.
I can also swipe away notifications. Actually i found that out on mistake, had a few too many whisky cokes and tried responding to a text and swiped it away lol

Oh I went straight from Froyo on my old Optimus V to Jellybean on the G2X (I rooted and installed Paranoid Android right away) so I thought swipe notifications was a Jellybean thing. I'll install a Gingerbread ROM when I get back from work and try to make it look and feel like JB.
On topic, yes I'm very satisfied with my G2X, but that might also be because I wasnt expecting a high end phone when I bought it from eBay a few months ago. Also I have a Nexus 7 for any apps that I use that require a hardware accelerated jellybean.

AFAIK swipe notifications is a CM7 thing in GB ROMs.

The g2x works best if you chant "humba lumba humba" while standing on one leg!
I though problems would be fixed by updates.
And once rooted and a with custom rom
Everything was going to be working good like the days of the HTC G1.

Can't wait till the Nexus 5 comes out. I'm gonna buy it and forget about this phone.

For those of you who are content with cm7, even though it is old software, I am working on my "Speedster" rom. It is still quite alpha but my goals is to optimize CM7 for our G2xs. I am also doing a bunch of software updates inside and using Mazkrnl to have speed and stability. I use the latest ADW launcher in it and JB sounds so it really gives CM7 new life and gives it a great CM10 feel. I can't do anything about play store, still limited to 2.3 aps. No google keep/now
Pie, I'm willing to flash your rom whenever its out of the alpha stage. Or let me know if you need a tester
I use this for the theme.

Are any of you good themers because I would like some help with that so I can focus on software and hardware optimization.
