Have any skyrocket owners run into issues with the GPS? Over the last few days I've found that the GPS radio is very hit or miss, & more often miss than not.
I typically leave the GPS radio off, enabling it when I need maps, navigation, yelp, etc.On my original GS2 this had worked without issue ... after turning on the radio I'd have GPS functionality within a few seconds.
On the sky, though, Google Maps, Places, etc report "waiting for location" for several seconds; then Maps times out with no result while Places errors out with the message "your different location is temporarily unavailable" ... this even after the GPS radio has been on for 30+ minutes! i've had this result whether I'm inside our outside.
Fwiw under location services I have UseWiFi OFF, Use GPS ON, & Sensor Aiding ON.
I should mention that SOME times out does work, though I've not found a pattern.doesn't appear to be battery related, since i've had it not work at full charge, then work later that day at 5% charge.
Too I downloaded the GPS Status app to directly see what result the GPS radio was returning ... that app shows the GPS properly returning a latitude & longitude, but then exciting the app & trying Maps still gets no GPS/location result.
I also get this issue, so is it a map issue or a gps issue? cause I will go down to ATT and return this *****.
My GPS works great locks almost instantly indoors or out. Infact its by far the best of any phone i've had yet.
I've been having the same issue. Mine has trouble locking my coordinates for minutes at times. I will run the GPS Test and it will look for towers for minutes at a time and it takes forever for it to update the clock and get a Long & Lat fix. To fix it, I have to toggle the GPS button and sometimes it works and other times I end up having to reboot. Yesterday while driving and using the maps, it lost the signal while enroute and wouldn't pick up another signal until I rebooted.
It's quite odd ... when I was traveling in Portland last few days, the GPS issues were often and persistent. Get back home to SF, and suddenly GPS has started working w/o issue, try as I can I can't get it to reproduce the problem now ???
I don't seem to have any issues with the GPS on my Skyrocket. It usually locks on within 10 seconds and is accurate.

I am having GPS problems. I have tried some of the stuff documented on here but to no avail (NMEA device and COM4 and also Internal GPS Receiver). Basically I am having erratic behaviour with my GPS. Sometimes I get a signal very quickly and other times I never get a signal (even after 15minutes). When I start TomTom, it says for a couple of seconds "No GPS device!" but that changes to "Waiting for a valid GPS signal...". The problem is that it can stay like that forever (for as long as I wait). What I have noticed is that if I run the QuickGPS and straight away open the TomTom then after 5 seconds it gets a GPS fix. If I have run QuickGPS the day before, I don't get a signal. Does anyone have any ideas what could be happening. Is the QuickGPS causing problems? Is there any way to get rid of the QuickGPS downloads so that TomTom relies only on the GPS device. I don't want to use QuickGPS every time especially when roaming and seeing how much they charge for data. Any other tips and tricks?
David
My problem is not the lag or connecting. But its staying connected. I use quick gps, then gps test, then I start up my gps program. I use TomTom, Garmin XT, and tested out google maps. When I connect the gps will work then it drops signal and garmin say lost gps signal. I have turned on gps test and all other programs off to see what happens and it drops signal and says looking for gps unit. Then it starts and drops. I tried soft reset and it happened again. I'm still messing with it to see if I can figure it out or if it is the phone. Does anyone know if there is some kind of software conflict or if something is causing the error. I have tried the gps programs with my bluetooth gps unit I use to use on my 8525 and it worked great. I really want to get this GPS working and be a little more reliable because this is one of the main reasons why I bought this phone.
AGPS is disabled?
No agps is enabled
Does anyone have any idea why this is occurring or anything I can try. I have updated to the latest garmin but it still doesn't work properly. I can connect sometimes and use the gps. But when trying to reconnect it gets satellites then drops them. On gps test it shows 3d like 8 satellite bars and saying starting gps then losses everything and says looking for gps then does the samething again over and over.
I still have a lag problem but:
Check that AGPS is off (Adv.Config. 3.3 is your friend)
Set polling through the COM interface to a lower speed (4800/9600/19200 max.)
Use GPS test
GO OUTSIDE
WAIT
I got lock with ANY radio though it may have taken up to 5 mins.
I get a lock but then it will lose signal. Or if I turn the gps off and try and lock on later it keeps cycling between looking for gps and gps starting but doesn't go to gps running just goes back to looking for gps
I have the same exact problem. Gps test will connect, then quickly lose connection. Tomtom and garmin will get a signal for a few seconds and then lose connection. This is all outside with a clear view of the sky. I've tried two different fuze's with multiple roms and radios and the problem is still there. I finally got fed up and went back to my e71. This is ridiculous in a $500 phone..
I was thinking about returning it but I did a search and I noticed this is a common problem. I thought it was mainly lag but I see there are several problems with this gps. That sucks because I was really looking forward to the internal gps coming from the 8525/herms. If I really need to get somewere I sill have to carry my bluetooth gps reciever. I 'm going to try some of the tweaks people have suggested and see if it helps.
I haven't used my GPS a ton, but the little I have, it has worked, as long as I am in the car or outside. When I am in the house, it rarely finds a signal. I think that the GPS radio is pretty weak, though generally you don't need GPS when inside of a building.

and this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427888
I tryed only
1. disable A-GPS (didn't help)
2. disable GPS logging (YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS)
Now it works perfect.!!!!!!

You mean NO lag?
Isn't GPSLOG = 0 disabling logging? BTW I also changed the registry using adv.cfg. to go to the SD card, not device

finally a thread about exactly my problem, you are not alone... im going to try disabling AGPS and logging, but i have in the past to no avail.... i have done a hard reset since then.
very annoying for such an expensive device
My gps started out working great. I got it on launch day. Then it started seeing plenty of satellites (8+) in gps test but wouldn't use them no matter how high the signal was. Now it only reports for a second and stops updating. For instance, It will view 1 satelite. The signal will go to 15 or so and then nothing changes. I've tried reinstalling gps test in case that was the problem. It still only sees one satellite for a moment and then it appears to freeze. I can't get a lock in maps, even if I leave it on for a half hour. Is there some kind of gps reset or maybe a software cache that should be cleared? It just seems to be frozen or something.
When i had GPS problems on my Nexus one , i rebooted it , or just simply turn off phone and back on.
Thanks for you're advice, but unfortunately I tried that all ready.
I can't connect to any WiFi routers for some reason. It will say connecting then saved and then connecting again. I'm also having isues with GPS lock. On maps it literally shows me jumping around between several different buildings a block ot two away. Should I do a ROM reflash? I'm on synergy ROM.

Go back to an ICS rom - get lock and then flash back to synergy
Do a clean flash of Synergy. A clean flash includes formatting system. The maps and location apps are in system/apps. This problem is usually accociated with corrupted maps and location apps and google framework. Alternately you can also try this fix although it will not fix any other problems flash related.

I'm on Synergy r73 and initially had a bunch of GPS lock issues. It would work intermittently. Sometimes it would lock then halfway along the route it would tell me I'm on a road that was several blocks away. Sometimes it wouldn't lock at all, not picking up a single satellite. I was close to a complete reformat but then I followed the directions in that link posted above and also used GPS Status and did all the calibrations.
It didn't take at first so I went back, cleared data on maps under applications manager, unchecked Standalone GPS services, unchecked Google location services, backed out, went back to location services and rechecked Google location services and Standalone GPS services, ran GPS status calibrations again, rebooted, then ran GPS Status calibrations again.
I probably didn't need to go through all of that, but after doing all of that GPS Status showed I was picking up satellites again. Hope that helps with the GPS issues.
As far as wifi, it gets weird every now and again, but I just turn it off and back on and all of a sudden it works well again.
Hi,
I have one of the S3's released from day one. After one of the last OTA updates I have not been able to keep a good GPS signal, and sometimes it takes a long time to get a lock. I've tried everything, GPS Status app, cleared Google cache, new roms nothing seems to fix it. I have read some people saying its a hardware issue. Does anyone have any experiences with this before I try and get a replacement? Thanks!
pretty much the same here. original pre-order lot.
both mine and my wife's S3 GPS are completely dead. no locks at all. no software things ive tried seem to work...
noticed right before OTA JB update. we have completely different phone use habits.
Simple mechanical GPS fix involving tightening the back frame of the phone
Hi,
I have a simple GPS fix that worked for me. I'd like to mention that the solution may not work for all but it did work for me after I tried just about every fix possible. For example I flashed back to stock, performed numerous battery pulls, used many of the AGPS patches, made numerous edits to the gps.conf file, reprovisioned my phone, checked different ROMs, uninstalled/reinstalled Google Maps, cleared data for Google Maps and Google Service Framework, and so on.
I tried all of the above methods because my GPS would take forever to get a fix both indoors and outdoors (I know it usually takes longer to get a fix indoors), wouldn't hold the fix while navigating and my GPS apps kept stating "Searching for GPS", would see 20+ satellites but would never lock on to them...man it was really frustrating. I just about gave up.
However, as I was trying to follow another procedure to fix my GPS which required me to pull my battery I noticed that when I removed my back cover that the back frame that has all the screws was slightly loose on the left side. Once I tightened them all up my GPS worked immediately! I've tested for a day and I consistently got a lock on the satellites in about 2-15 seconds depending on my location. My navigation also worked and wouldn't cut in and out.
Like I said it may not work for everyone but I would recommend that if you have a GS3 definitely check the back frame of your phone and make sure everything is secure. I've tried my GPS on the stock and CM 10 stable ROMs and I have achieved GPS locks consistently.
I hope this helps. Maybe this has already been shared but I figured I would post in case some of you haven't seen it yet.
Cheers.
