[Q] Partially bricked i9020t - help wanted - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi;
I've new to this forum so please be patient with me.
I just bought an 19020t and went about unlocking the boot loader + rooting the phone as the previous owner did a bad job of updating the firmware, which killed the wifi on the phone (I need this for market place/tethering).
I've so far managed to root the phone (stupidly almost completely bricked it) and was stuck on the fastboot screen - cannot find boot or system img (fixed with a fastboot flash boot boot.img).
However, I've now found myself in the situation of oply booting to the clockwordworkmod recovery screen and can't proceed beyond this point.
Can anyone provide me a link to a file (not sure which one i need - system, boot img) that I could use so I can atleast get to the Android system?

[Q] Nexus S stuck on google boot logo

Hey everyone,
I got a Nexus S that gets stuck on the Google logo when it starts up. I can get the phone into the bootloader and I can also clear the data from the phone but that hasn't fixed it. If you have any suggestions, please respond to the thread. Thank you!
I had this issue once for some reason... I had to take out the battery and put it back in, then boot into recovery and wipe the cache/davlik cache... Have you tried that yet??

No but the person I purchased it from might have. Does anyone know how to load stock android becuase I'm not experienced with rooting.
Looks like he bricked it, lucky for you, it's a Nexus. You have to find a stock Gingerbread ROM and flash it with ODIN or maybe through recovery. Look around for a stock ROM.

any solution?
hi guys.i have the same issue.does anyone have a solution for this?
i had the same problem.....what i did was cleared everything on recovery and flashed cyanogenmod and now is all good (this was of course after changing my underwear lol )

how can I do it?
I got the same problem.
Nexus S stuck at Google lOgo
I have the same Issue
Here is the Boot Loader Details.
Boot Loader version is : I9020XXKA3
baseband : I9020XXKB1
Locked sTate : LOCKEd
I have downloaded the stock nandroid , but not able to put it on the phone memory.
then tried to unlock the BOOT Loader in order to install Clock..Recovery , but there also after selecting Yes while Running Fastboot oem unlock , phone does not do anything.
then tried to load the file using ADB mode, but when i run adb devices , it doesnt show any device. or when i run adb remount it says "Error device not found"
Please help me get out of it.....
Similar problem
Ahoy!
I have a similar problem. Bought the phone in the States so I'm not in a position to go into psychological warfare with some poor high school kid working in Best Buy. Plus, all this is totally my fault...
I dropped my phone down the can (if it was a Blackberry I would have flushed) and manged to rescue it through handy desiccant (open shoe box gel packets) and rediscovering religion *cough* until this is sorted *cough*.
When I eventually fired her back up (the battery had flatlined btw) I'm stuck on the Google screen. So battle commenced...
The phone was stock 2.3.4, never rooted, no CW Recovery.
T-Mobile I9020T.
I sorted the Win 7 USB device issue
Can see it with fastboot but not adb.
Can access the bootloader screen so tried the Recovery option but it just goes into Google splash screen each time.
Flashed various versions of CW recovery (herring, mecha) to it but hitting the Recovery menu on the bootloader screen just keeps going to the Google splash screen.
This is where I complicated things because I'm a complete and utter noob to the rooting game.
I'm fairly sure I was careless early on with the appropriate versions of the full stock and singular recovery images I was trying to flash, so this might be useful information.
I downloaded ODIN and tried it briefly but it didn't seem to recognise my phone (I keep reading the ODIN needs to be tricked into recognising the phone). I also keep reading the ODIN is unnecessary if you have fastboot access so let this line of inquiry slide.
I downloaded a full Clockwork Mod Stock Nandroid (Stock-GRH78-Nandroid) and attempted to flash it all. The boot img failed due to a "FAILED exceed blocks" problem, so I tried this (classic noob try anything):
"Got a failure when trying to flash back a 8Mb boot.img?
From example above I started from a boot.img smaller than the full boot partition but if you create a new boot.img or start from an image of the full partition taken manually or with clockworkmod, boot.img will be 8Mb-large (8388608) and fastboot fails with "FAILED exceed blocks 0x00000020 > 0x0000001e".
I'm not really sure about what size the file should be but as it's filled with zeroes till reaching 8Mb, I decided to cut it:
0x00000020 => 0x0000001e means for me 8388608 / 0x20 * 0x1e = 7864320, so I did:
dd if=boot.img of=boot2.img bs=262144 count=30
fastboot flash boot boot2.img"

This worked! noob W1NNAR!!!11one111!!
I got the same thing with the recovery and the same "trick" worked. When it got around to the system img it eventually failed with a "Magic number" problem. Checking this problem out made me realise I can't keep messing around and should "get help".
As a further note I'm aware that the recovery can get flashed each time to stock after a reboot so I've been flashing CW Recovery and then trying to boot into Recovery straight away. Still getting stuck on the Google Splash screen.
I haven't found anyone with my problem that couldn't get sorted with CW so I'm either completely boned or missing something ridiculously easy. Been trying things for over a week - I'm getting close to selling her for scrap.
Have you turned S-Off?

Do "fastboot erase recovery" then flash a different ClockworkMod build. Try 3.0.2.4

Thanks Matt.
Just tried erasing (hadn't before) and flashing 3.0.2.4 - no dice. Tried erasing and 3.0.2.5 and no luck either.

Maybe I'm missing a blindingly obvious step.
My exact steps are:
Starting phone into bootloader screen (Volume + Up)
Erasing the recovery (as of Mike's post above)
Flashing the recovery (ensuring the recovery file is named "recovery.img")
On success of that selecting the Recovery menu item.
Each time I get Google Splash screen.

Try to use fastboot to go into recovery directly instead of flashing recovery and choosing it from the bootloader menu.
"fastboot boot recovery.img" and see how this goes.
Edit: try this recovery as well

How long do you wait on the splash screen? I recall this happening to me once but I thinkbi just let it sit and recovery eventually showed up after a while.

Thanks asafru,
I tried booting into recovery but again, no luck. I did it with one of the recovery builds you suggested (the cyan recovery but having trawled that thread I'm not sure what the difference is between the colours).

That's a fair point - I had expected to see the recovery screen fairly sharpish.
I've waited 15 minutes now on the splash screen for flashings of cw 3.0.2.4, 3.0.2.5 and the mysterious cyan build of 4.0.0.2.
I imagine this is an appropriate amount of time for the recovery to kick in?
I've tried all these recoveries using the Recovery menu item and also using the booting directly recovery method that asafru suggests above.

[Q] [HELP] Loop + No access to Recovery

That's my first post here in the One S forum and, unfortunately, not a happy one.
I used to have fun with modding a long time ago, with the HTC Desire, but when I bought the One S, I didn't even root it, until yesterday.
To unlock the bootloader and install the TWRP recovery I used the All-in-One toolkit; then I installed a MIUI v5 porting and updated to the latest version.
Not satisfied with it, this morning I decided to try Sense 5 with TrickDroid 10.3.2: I did a TWRP backup, wiped the necessary and installed the zip.
Now the phone is in an infinite loop.. that would be ok, but I can't get to fastboot or recovery.
The problem is that even before I wasn't able to get to fastboot with the button combo (even if I disabled fastboot in MIUI settings), and to access the recovery I used the command provided in the All-in-One toolkit.
I'm not able to use the All-in-One toolkit since the device can't be found while turning on.
So now I'm here with my phone vibrating every 30 seconds or so and that's a bit frustrating...
Do any of you know what to do?
If you need any further information just ask, and sorry for my English, I hope everything is clear.
Thank you in advance
Francesco
P.S.: It is the S4 version.

That is not a brick lol
That warning logo isn't a big deal. Everyone who has unlocked their bootloader gets it. And seems like you have erased your recovery by selecting "Factory Reset".
1. Download All-In-One Tool kit for HTC One S from the Development forum.
2. Flash a custom recovery. TWRP recommended.
3. Boot into recovery, mount sd card, copy your rom.
4. Flash your ROM.
5. Boot into fastboot
6. flash boot.img
7. Restart :good:

[Q] Help with a fenix one s

Hi maybe you can help me, I got a tmobile htc one s, it was of a friend and give it to me like parts (dont know the story behind it), before taking it apart I connect it to my pc and I can see the PC can recognize the phone as some weird usb device, I search and find the unbricking process with ubuntu, and it work, it boot in a stock rom, it sits for a night and the next day the phone was death again, I redo the unbricking process and can boot again, then I tried to flash a new rom trying to fix any boot file corrupted, I download MAJ rom, unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery, the MAJ rom said that is necessary to flash a new fw, i did, then after flashing the ROM (with no problems apparently) when trying to boot I get htc logo then black screen over and over, dont know whats wrong Im still able to boot in fastboot mode, want to flash a RUU but I cant find any compatible with my hboot 2.15.0000 radio 1.13.50.05.31.
Please any help will be appreciated, thanks
Ok, the phone boot up, an old mistake after flashing a custom ROM flash again the boot.img of the ROM.
For noobs:
1. unlock your bootloader
2. flash a custom recovery
3. enter recovery and flash a custom rom
5. with winrar open the .zip of your custom rom and extract just the boot.img
4. boot in fastboot mode and flash the boot.img you extracted, for that in windows enter in cmd and: fastboot flash boot boot.img
5. reboot your phone it should boot up
If theres any mistake please let us know.
Well as I comment before I can boot up in the custom rom, but I face a new problem, I can turn on wifi and can see all the networks but the phone didnt connect I reset my router and my device with no luck, even I flash a new rom but same problem, the phone try to connect to my network but nothing, any idea???

Disaster Recovery - Life after wrong Flash ? OnePlus

Hello all,
2 days ago when on vacation i decided to temper around with my OnePlus one that i recently bought (have bought the Chinese version but it was already rooted and had cyanoged mod on it)
All was fine until i decided to flash Paranoid Android and i posted a question here, about how to bypass the always apearing CyanogenMod Simple Recovery tool.
After trying what everyone suggested and not getting result i had 1 last thing that someone suggested:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54717885
If you still have not fixed this issue, for some reason when I was flashing my recovery it would NOT work for the life of me until I changed the name of the custom recovery file to 'recovery.img'. Everytime I flash (for example) openrecovery-twrp-blah-bacon.img it would say success, but it kept rebooting into CM fastboot mode.
Click to collapse
I misunderstood and i renamed the .zip file from paranoid sources into recovery.img and flash (Kernel) it via some app from play store, i thin it was TRWL
Now my phone is stuck into loading faze and the only thing i can do is enter Fastboot mode.
I tried to do a:
fastboot erase cache
But it did not work, its still stuck in loading and will not do anything.
Could you help me out ? I have a really bad feeling i just lost my phone due to hurrying and not having a pc around to read more.
You can try to fastboot flash recovery(original or proper one that works) but I don't know the exact commands.
In the first case where your recovery would not switch from CM to TWRP/CWR was because you had "Update CM Recovery" enabled in Developer Options. If you ticked that off, then it would have replaced CM Recovery. Its confusing yeah.
So wait... you renamed the .zip to a .img? Thats not good. But at least you can enter fastboot mode so thats at least something. Is your bootloader still unlocked? Are you able to boot into recovery mode? Try fastboot boot <name-of-recovery-for-twrp>.img and see if you can get into recovery.
If you can then perform a wipe and then enable adb sideload within TWRP and then type,
adb sideload <name-of-zip>.zip and then after its done sideloading, reboot
Thanks for the answer.
I managed last night out of 10 flash resets to get the Custom Recovery Tool to booth up.
I was about to give up when i saw it boot and i immediately flashed the CM .zip i had on the phone from last time.
I even managed to get Paranoid android to flash and im very happy.
Thanks for the help

Warning: Current Pixi 4 (4) 4034N will softbrick if you unlock the flash

Hi all,
I thought it be good to warn all Alcatel Pixi 4 (4) owners. The current version of the stock rom of the 4034N, which is sold here in the NL has what I think is a terrible bug.
If you enable unlocking in the development options, go to the fastboot, all it takes is to unlock the flash and your phone will get stuck in the boot animation.
I tried to recover by formatting /data (/data is destroyed as could be expected to protect the userdata), but it does not solve the problem.
Flashing a custom ROM like CM13 solves this problem, but I bet this is the reason why I see so many calls on the Internet for Stock ROMs for the 4034N. Have not found a good stock ROM for it and also Alcatels Mobile Upgrade site does not seems to support the 4034N (probably still one software version for it, so no upgrade required yet?).
So better know what you are doing when messing with this phone.
Anybody got the same experience (I can confirm that this was tested by me and my friends with three different Pixi 4's)...
Best regards,
Peter
Good news!
I found out that there is a global site from Alcatel where you can find an update of Alcatels Mobile_Upgrade_S_4.5.9 which DOES support the 4043N.
The good news is not only that this software can bring your phone back to stock ROM, but also that if your Flash is unlocked before you recover, it is still unlocked after the recovery. So rooting is very simple then. Cost me 2 minutes to do it:
adb boot recovery.img (you can boot the twrp bootimage from ADB, no need to flash it) and then directly install the superuser.zip
Presto!
I think I'm seeing the same problem with a 4034X (UK variant, as sold by Tesco Mobile). Unfortunately, the mobile update software isn't working for me as it's detecting that I've already got the latest version of the ROM installed already and won't let me install it again. AIUI, the CM13 system has a few issues, so I'd rather not go that root, so would still like a stock ROM if at all possible. Anyone have any pointers?
Hmm. Have managed to get beyond the resetting user data boot loop with the following procedure:
* boot to recovery (power + vol up)
* from recovery menu, choose "boot to bootloader"
* at bootloader, connect via USB to PC
* run "fastboot -w"
* run "fastboot boot <filename for twrp recovery image>"
* at twrp recovery menu, run the standard "wipe" options
* reboot
Haven't yet finished booting, but it's gone to the standard boot animation, which I never succeeded in getting to before.
Update: 8 minutes and counting into the boot process. Doesn't look like it's going to work.
One question worth asking: does this mean that *all* operations that cause a factory reset on an affected 4034 cause a boot loop? Or is it only unlocking the boot loader?
I managed to soft brick my 4034X simply by allowing my email program to encrypt the device. The encryption apparently failed and now it's stuck on boot animation. As @jh3141 said, the Acatel upgrade tool doesn't work. I guess I need to find a stock ROM, but my Googling hasn't found one yet. Can anyone help?

I'm stuck in the booting process just like you were.
me too - Pixi 4(4) chaos on unlocking.
Absolutely the same experience here.
I have nuked 2 of these trying to unlock. It is a brilliant phone, but this is a painful feature - as you describe.
My history is in one of the threads on this site. - I agree, I would love a stock ROM for it.

I also softbricked my 4034X after unlocking the bootloader and couldn't get the phone to boot into recovery or the bootloader. I eventually managed to flash a stock ROM with SP Flashtool as described here https://www.getdroidtips.com/install-official-stock-rom-on-alcatel-pixi-4-4/ - this restored the ability to boot into recovery or bootloader but the ROM wouldn't boot so I couldn't enable developer settings to allow OEM unlocking. I then tried flashing the ROM for the dual-SIM version of the 4034X (risky!) and this booted and I was able to unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP recovery. The next problem was when & flashed CM13 and got an error message saying that TWRP couldn't access /data. It then got stuck in a recovery bootloop. Next I used TWRP to format all the partitions but it still couldn't access /data and broke the ability of the Mobile Upgrade Tool to read the phone. My next step is to try flashing a different custom recovery but I'm rapidly losing the will to live and would be very interested in any suggestions.
UPDATE - got it sorted by re-flashing the dual-SIM 4034X ROM (even though I have the single SIM version!), flashing ctr-6.6-4034 recovery, doing a normal wipe then formatting the /data partition then flashed CM13. I guess the data partition must have got corrupted.
I have exactly the same problem with pixi 4 4043f. I unlocked bootloader and then flashed following your instructions on that link you shared. But I see is a white screen frozen no options shown just booting voice behind.... I have flashed it several times but same results I still cant entry fastboot or recovery... Volume down + power or volume up + power dn take me anywhere just that frozen white screen with booting ring tone in the back and thats it... Kindly guide me
i had a similar problem, but i always wanted to flash cm13, so i was fine.
There is an amazing thread here for our device.
For those of you with the 4034X, i have ported cm13 to it specifically, bu there are too many bugs, but if anyone wants it, just tell me!
also, can i just say, softbrick if you oem lock aswell :,(
i wanted to test something, but after fastboot oem lock, and then fastboot reboot, i get an android being repaired? key combo's not working, adb/fastboot not responding, can't remember how i fixed it when i oem unlocked ...
edit-
got into recovery with key combo, now it's just to fix it!

For reference: I tried this on a stock 4034X and it failed (couldn't persuade it to boot the custom recovery without going through the full unlock process). Fortunately, there are now copies of the stock ROM available for download (e.g. https://androidfrog.com/a3nr9) so with any luck I won't need to go back to the dodgy CM13 port that constantly runs out of memory and soft-reboots...
Update: I've installed the stock ROM I linked to above, and it seems to be working pretty well. Only issue was that the scatter file that came with it was apparently broken. Fortunately, one that I had hanging around from attempts to fix this problem last time seemed to work with it. I've attached that to this message in case anyone else needs it.

Thanks, I'll be sure to add a notice for 4034X users in the Magisk guide. I have yet to see a stable CM13 ROM for MT6580 with 3.18.19 kernel. There seems to be an issue with this device chip and ROMs.
Finally got root on the Pixi4-4034
Hi everyone,
yeah I finally managed to root the alcatel Pixi 4-4 (4034) (3G MODEL). It was really tricky and there are quite some issues you have to deal with.
Therefore please read carefully my instructions and remember I am not responsible for any inconvenience, do it at your own risk.
First of all you have to unlock the bootloader and here comes the first problem. On the Pixi4 this operation leads to a sotfbick because the unlocking process deletes completely the data-partition. The phone can't boot anymore and ends in a bootloop.
To resolve this problem you must reflash the phone with SP-Flash-Tool. After reflashing the bootloader remains unlocked so that you should be able to continue with the rooting process. The second problem is that I could find only one working ROM for flashing. It is for the 4034X, my phone was a 4034D (dual SIM), after flashing I had an 4034X what means that my Pixi became a single-SIM phone, I can live with that.
Here are the necessary steps to obtain root on the Pixi4
1. UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER
- Go to settings -> about phone -> hit many times on "build number" till developer message appears
- Enable "OEM unlocking" located in developer options.
- Switch also "USB debugging" on
- Open the command prompt window (cmd)
- Connect the phone to the PC
- Boot into fastboot-mode by typing "adb reboot bootloader"
- Confirm the debug authorization window on the phone, check "always allow from this computer" (afterwards phone should boot into fastboot, otherwise retype the command above)
- Unlock bootloader by typing "fastboot oem unlock"
WARNING: this deletes the data-partition leading in a softbrick and bootloop,
you have to reflash the phone afterwards to continue rooting!
- Confirm the unlocking with the volume-up key
2. REFLASHING THE PHONE
- I found only this working firmware for the 4034X on this page like described by jh3141:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/warning-current-pixi-4-4-4034n-t3463154/page2
- You have also to use the scatter file described by jh3141
- After loading the scatter-file in SP-Flash-Tool you have to link the missing img-files in the SP-Flash-Tool-Window
- If you flash the 4034X firmware over an 4034D you will end in a single-SIM phone instead of a dual-SIM.
- After flashing the phone will boot again so that you can continue with flashing the twrp-img.
3. ROOTING THE PHONE
- To root the phone you have to install the twrp-image, the one for the Pixi 4034 you find it here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68049551&postcount=97
- Download and untar the file at the bottom of the page: twrp-3.1.0-0-4034.tar
- Open the command prompt window (cmd)
- Connect the phone to the PC
- Boot into fastboot-mode by typing "adb reboot bootloader"
- Flash twrp by typing "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0-0-4034.img"
- Download Super-SU "SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip" from
https://download.chainfire.eu/1003/SuperSU/
and put the zip-file on the phone (external or internal storage)
- With the phone switched off boot into twrp by holding power and volume-up keys togehter
- In twrp go to "Advanced" -> "Terminal" -> Type the following code:
echo "SYSTEMLESS=true" > /data/.supersu
- Go back and choose "Install" -> flash the Super-Su-file (SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip)
- Reboot and you’re done, you have root and super-su on the PIXI4
- If you want to uninstall system-apps proceed to the next step.
4. UNINSTALLING BLOADWARE APPS
- You can’t uninstall system-apps directly from the Android-OS,
if you delete the apps with some uninstall-tools it’s strange but the phone will reinstall them after a reboot.
- To succeed you must uninstall the apps in twrp
- Be careful, uninstalling the wrong apps will end in a bootloop or bootfreeze and you will have to reflash the phone starting at step 2.
- Boot into twrp -> go to "Mount" -> check "System" -> go back and choose "Advanced" -> "File Manager"
- In file-manager navigate to the appropriate app-folders and delete the .apk-files
- IMPORTANT: before rebooting you have to wipe the dalvik-cache
- Go to "Wipe" -> "Advanced Wipe" -> CHECK ONLY "Dalvik / ART Cache"
- Confirm wipe and reboot
I personally like the Pixi4-4034, it’s a very small one that is very useful as second phone especially on holidays .
Have fun.

Presto!

I have exactly the same problem. But I haven't been able to find this Mobile_Upgrade_S_4.5.9. Any help will be greatly appreciated,
thnx,
Herman
update: i found the mobile upgrade tool. But it says the latest firmware is already installed. Earlier i tried spft, flashing seemed to go well but the phone stays in animation/bootloop.
Can anybody help?
