Hi - I installed the Valhalla 1.3.2 yesterday and then flashed KJ6 modem since i heard KJ6 has better wifi signals, but when i try to connect to wifi i still see poor signal. Is there any fix available for this ?
Not really. I have not noticed any real difference with any of the gb modems.

If you must have wifi, use odexed KJ6 (odin version) and root with Doomlord's method. It's almost perfect imho.
The bad part is you lose cwm & ext4.
KJ6 for me definitely was an improvement, however, it's not as good as Froyo was.

Are you using a deodexed rom?
All GB roms have poor wifi. Once GB becomes official you would hope that type of connection get's better. If not Froyo is still an option if you realy need wifi
Yeah kj6 improved wifi but it still unacceptable compare to froyo and a official gb

has anyone been brave enough to find a modem from another Galaxy S phone with the same hardware? It might be an option. Its only a guess though because I am by no means an expert.

I started on KI3 when I went from FroYo to Octane GB 2.3.5 and then switched to KJ6. both have been around -65db when Im about 10 feet away from the router. on FroYo I was usually around -45db.
The strange part is i upgraded to Valhalla 1.3.2 from Stock leak 2.3.5 KI1 and it was working perfectly. Earlier when i was in KI1 my battery life was amazing used to get around 2 full days now after upgrading to Valhalla it is draining very fast. I have already installed Juice defender and Andreline Tweak v12.
I also have expetienced these issues. I foubd Black Ice was most reliable, followed by Octaine, and then Valhalla 1.3.2. I also find that. Wifi does more poorly on low battery (<35%) but I know voltage should be a constant so there's no rationale to that behavior I can divine. Its not an anecdotal observation though, I ran the DbM timeline and it supported my suspicions. I wonder if this would be due to some software side battery optimizations Samsung threw in.
I eagerly anticipipate trying.the 2.3.6 kernel with fingers crossed.

The modem.bin doesn't control the wifi. If you want good wifi see my thread in the dev section
*the mod only works with 2.3.5 or higher

Tehgy is right about that, I think if there's any optimizations to be had they are modded through build.prop functions and possibly SysCtl also. Unless you have a healthy amount of development knowledge on a coding level, the only solutions are to rely on Tehgy and other more experoenxed developers and/or extensively test various combinations of ROM/Kernel flashes with as much isolation of usage variables as possible.
Do not count out anecdotal use case experiences as irrelevant, the sum of these observations helps developers to locate variance and provides clues as to where to begin searching or modifying relevant code.

There's been a lot of discussion about the low WiFi signal from most, if not all, of the Gingerbread builds. Many have speculated that it's simply a display issue and not a performance one.
My wife has a stock ROM (Froyo) and I have the GB build KH1. I did a test comparison of both the WiFi download speeds and the 4G performance.
The KH1 ROM *way* underperformed the Froyo one -- to the point where her stock ROM was at least 2-3x as fast as the KH1 build. 4G performed similarly. WiFi Analyzer also showed a huge difference in signal strength.
I then installed the KH2 modem and tried the same experiment and while it improved it somewhat, it was still woefully lacking in speed over the stock Froyo ROM.
With that said, has anyone found a prior modem build that works better than what's been released recently? This is a huge issue for me and while I love the GB build, to lose that much connectivity speed is troublesome.
There is a thread with all the modems on them, check the bible, you can flash each one to see which is best for you.

I don't think its a modem issue with gb. I've tried them all, wifi still sucks.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk
Yeah not much you can do here, there will be more leaks..as wifi is still horrible and unacceptable for such an expensive phone..samsung just have to get it right!!
Thanks for the info and confirmation. I was afraid that we'd have to wait for the CM7 release. I've tried several of the modem releases and nothing has worked any better.

I just jumped in neck deep and flashed the latest GB rom KII, Doc's new kernel and was surprised at my wifi speeds. before on stock froyo my wifi was sluggish and intermittent. Now as a matter of fact my whole phone is faster, very snappy. I'm very happy seems like I got a new phone with a duel core cpu
Thanks to all!
I'm asking this question because my wife's GS4G is constantly messing up and all TMO wants to do is send us another one and charge 15 bucks. If I were to exchange again this would be the forth exchange.
My wife is no tech savvy so I'm looking for the most stable rom with the least amount of issues so when I finally flash it over she can be happy. I know there might be several opinions I'm just looking for an idea....
Thank you
For Froyo 2.2.1, I'd say ICBINB by team acid, for Gingerbread, I'd say Valhalla by Whitehawkx or Audiophile FTW by Raver. But it's your choice afterall.
I would recommend flashing a gingerbread rom. Froyo roms are not even close. I'd say flash Valhalla or audiophile. But if you are going flash Valhalla make sure you use a different launcher since right now some people are having issues with touchwiz.

Valhalla or Audiophile FTW. Both ROMs are stable and have great battery life.

I like ICBINB
the froyo version of ICBINB was the most stable and issue-free, but i personally prefer vahalla 1.1 + ADW EX.
hmmm....
i think my sig says it all.
Honestly, all of them are good. It's just a matter of which ROMs you want to flash.
Froyo:
1) ICBINB = easiest way to get the smoothest Froyo
2) Audiophile = the name tells enough, if you're a music enthusiast
3) Bionix Frost or Black Ice = most basic ROMs; must flash all tweaks yourself
GB:
1) ICBINB = same as above, but better
2) Audiophile = same as above, but better
3) Valhalla = newest stable ROM for us (as of 9/21); a lot of versatility with lockscreens and EDT Tweaks
Obviously, the GB ROMs are better, but they are also a bit more complicated to deal with. Froyo ROMs are easier to flash. Be sure to look at the Bible and everything. You wouldn't want a brick and end up having your wife smack you!

I like the Deodexed KI1 rom from Whitehawkx and the e6x3 theme by Somairotevoli.
Once Whitehawkx finishes Valhalla KI1 I will be using that one.
I am actually in the same exact boat with my girlfriends SGS4G it runs horribly and has massive problems with internet connection and locking up I'm in the middle of going rounds with tmo they've sent me 2 refurbs already first one had hardware issues(brightness switched every second like it flipped through brightness levels) second one the bottum corner of the screen was cracked and now they're sending me a third one if this ones a POS, I'm gonna feel sorry for who evers on the customer service side of the phone next, sorry for going off topic

That sucks. For the first one, are you sure automatic brightness wasn't on? If lighting around you changes, the brightness changes (quite easily too).
Maybe you could fix up the next refurb with one of the suggested ROMs.
Very new to installing roms. Uf I have the stock froyo on my phone, will I have to OTA download gingerbread before I can flash a GB rom? Or can I just flash a GB rom?

Is there an OTA GB? I don't think so. You'll have to ODIN a GB ROM. I'm using Valhalla 1.2 with drhonk's KI1 Kernel with full ext4. Very sweet.
I was hoping to get your guys opinion on this. Should I wait at least until mid October for gingerbread, or should I say forget it and install a custom Rom now? In otherwords, do you think gingerbread will really be here soon?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
We kinda think its close. But why not try a custom rom. The flash time and return to stock time is les than 15 minutes. Now if you are trying not to void your warranty,I guess I can dig that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
It's a really high quality refurb from Att and has 2 months of warranty left. But I doubt I'd brick it. Even if I did I'd use gtg's unbricker. Hmm... I'm still on the fence though. Need more opinions.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Well the custom roms offer some things stock doesnt yet its up to you and your needs.
Anyways now with the video recording fix using a GB rom its a nice choice. I was "stuck" on Froyo since the fps thingy on Gb roms but now that its fixed ive been runnin Infused 2.2.3 and its smooth.
There are some more rom options so you could browse and take your choice.

If you're willing to give up HDMI output and live with a few minor bugs, you can have Gingerbread now.
Also data speeds are still not fixed in GB, although one fix I tried seems to have had far better results than I expected so there is promise there. I'm asking for some confirmation of that, as I live in an area with always-crappy speeds so I can't really test it.

Yea I was going to wait, but I could not stand it anymore. I am on 2.2.2 with Entropy's kernel. The data speeds seem mostly restored, even though i used to get almost another mb usually. If you do go to Gingerbread now, I will say the perfect pair is Infused 2.2.3 (or 2.2.2) with Infusion 1.0 (overclock kernel) for heavy games users. For daily needs and internet speed, I would say again Infused 2.2.3 (or 2.2.2) with Entropy's kernel. I have not tried Serendipity, but I have heard almost nothing bad about that too.
I installed S7 a few weeks ago, expecting to only stay on it a few days as I tried a few other ROMs. I still want to fix the Hellraiser "stuck battery notifications" issue.
I've been very happy with S7 - At some point I'll be returning to CM7, but I've been so busy that I haven't had time to mess with reflashing another ROM.
UCKI5 apparently just got leaked, so I may just wait. Seems like it's close.

Hi there,
I've been lurking for a while, trying to absorb as i've information as I could before I worked up the courage to flash my phone.
yesterday was the day I finally decided to flash 2.3.4 audiophile (instead of deciding to go with 2.3.5 Valhalla). So i'm curiois as to what makes audiophile a better "media" ROM as compAred to Valhalla?

it is mentioned in the OP of audiophile, but overall, it is supposed to have better sound tweaks.
i like audiophile over valhalla because (TO ME), it is more stable for the way that i tweak my phone. valhalla lasts forever once you undervolt it, though.

I prefer Audiophiles because it is very stable, sound is amazing and it's fully themed. Also, it's performance is snappy, no lag at all. I have been on them since the first one came out for Froyo. Also, Valhalla and ICBINB are great roms too. All better than stock of course. So maybe you could try them all, like I do, and decide later.
*At the moment... I'm using Valhalla just for curiosity and was told KI3 had better wifi signal. Tried ICBINB some days ago too. All great. Anyway, this is just until Raver releases an update. I will jump back, no second thoughts.*
I flashed Valhalla yesterday because wifi calling volume was incredibly low on audiophile. Seems the same so far, but to be faire, I haven't done anything too intensive or out there, mod-wise
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Heavenly Sin,
I thought the low calling volume on Wifi was always there? Are you suggesting that was 'better' on Froyo?
btw: I run Audiophile and luv it. Nothing against others, its just where I am at present and its proven to be very stable and responsive. Props to Raver
wifi calling is low on froyo rom's.. specifically Bali kernels.. its loud and clear on gb roms but wifi id low signal lmao

post back with stats and battery life

Running Simply Simple 1.0 with asop theme and kj6 kernel w/voodoo and adrenaline shot with build tweaks. I get a little less than 2 days battery but im always on my phone
This is NOT a help thread!! just to see what your running
Seems like a reasonable thread.
I'm running the Bali 3.3UV kernel and RaverX3X's Audiophile Redux for Froyo 2.2.1. That's right, FROYO BABY!
I get about a day's worth of juice which is good enough for me. Although it never hurts to have more.

Valhalla was my first leap into flashing on this particular phone, and I loved it. But i'm loving octane and it's simplicity at the moment. Both solid enough to keep my urge to constantly flash somewhat at bay. Simply simple looks good, though.
My only complaint it's that Valhalla and octane don't support voodoo sound, but that's a kernal issue that I just haven't delved into enough (soft bricked trying to experiment that one, now i'm overly cautious)

Octane version 2.x(super smooth and great support from developer)
