Sense force close - HTC Sensation

Sense is force closing on me frequently. What is wrong? Will it be related to something I have downloaded?

I have the same issue!
Doesn't really matter what I am doing, I can view facebook or Plume and when I hit back to get the the homescreen if force closes...
Happens almost all of the time if I install or remove an app..
Orange Branded Sensation, 2.3.4, rooted although was happening on 2.3.3 and pre-root.
I haven't had a look to see if the cause is captured in a log file yet.

There are numerous threads on exactly this subject, it's because there's insufficient memory, so when exiting an app it doesn't have enough memory to switch, hence it ends task and restarts instead. Changing to a different launcher fixes it.

[Q] Thunderbolt Slowdowns

Greetings,
I have an unrooted Thunderbolt running launcher pro. When I exit applications, often there is a significant delay in loading up the home screens. Sometimes it happens so often that the device becomes paralyzed for 15 or more seconds before my home screen along with apps pop in.
What are the reasons for this? I have tons of apps, many of which have not been moved to the SD card.
I have tried going back to sense, but the problem persists making me think it isn't a launcher related issue.
Thoughts?
so i get a better picture of whats happening
1. when you first installed launcher pro did it have this lag or did it happen latter.
2. by going back to sense do you mean uninstalling all of launcher pro.
3.- strange question i know but - have you completely powered off the device recently, by that i mean power off like normal and pull the battery then just let it sit for like 10 minuets.
Thanks for your prompt reply.
The problem persists even after taking battery out and restarting.
I did not uninstall launcherpro, I just switched temporarily back to sense to see if I could replicate the problem, and I did.
The problem seems to be getting worse as time goes on, the reason I think it may have to do with adding all of these free apps of the day from amazon.
When I initially installed launcher pro, I never had the problem.
I also seem to be having random reboots several times a day.

i think whats happening is your RAM running low on memory, sense uses a lot of RAM like 300+ Megs and you can't stop it unless you root.(not trying to peer pressure you or anything). but for the time being i suggest to go into settings/apps/running and see if you have apps running in the background that take a lot of memory space. and force stop the ones you don't use that often.
and as for the reboots could you check the baseband version in the about phone part of settings?

[Eclipse] Clearing RAM causes TWLauncher to restart

Quite an annoying problem that only started showing itself after switching to Eclipse. When clearing RAM the phone will sometimes show a blank home page and you'll have to wait about 10-20 seconds for it to fix itself. It seems like the TouchWiz Launcher is getting closed by clearing RAM and it has to restart itself. Another app I was using had to restart TW and it did the exact same thing(blank home page for about half a minute). Pictures below.
Would really appreciate some help, can't stand it sometimes. Even if no one has a fix I would still appreciate some confirmation that this is an Eclipse bug. Thanks for taking the time guys.
When you clear ram it tells you that it may stop running processes. It is not surprising that the launcher has to reload. You should never have to clear ram, android will shut down things on its own to make room for new running apps.
yes it seems to shut down the launcher for a moment..but mine comes back in like 2 seconds tops...for em it doesnt do it all the time..like I just tried it and it went right back to the homescreen immediately
@hoppermi I understand that but sometimes the RAM almost caps, I've gotten to 300 before with no processes open(well I had Skype and other such apps running in the background). Still, this was never a problem with GC or Humble. Can't speak for stock since I stayed on it for about 8 hours but it seems like a problem with TW.
Just so you know
This even happens on the Stock on occasion. Not 100% though, but every so often.
"RAM almost capping" -- assuming you mean what I think you mean -- is perfectly normal Android behavior. That's exactly why Google so adamantly recommends against running task killers. If you do actually run out of RAM, the OS will end tasks automatically.
Haha I totally forgot about that, I always wondered why I have 260mb being used, open then close PvZ or Angry birds and I'm suddenly only using 180mb. Well thanks, guess I'm done clearing RAM for the time being. Still odd that this only happens with TW.
I think most launchers try to keep themselves in the memory...the one that came with Eclipse apparently does not.

Changing orientation when selecting home causes launcher to crash

So I had this issue in Honeycomb and now in ICS.
Easily repeatable. I launch an app, any app, go into portrait mode. When finished, I hit back or home, change orientation to landscape, and the Launcher crashes. "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped"
looking at the logs I have a:
threadid-1: thread exiting with uncaught exception. (group=0x40a531f8)
It happens as soon as all the widgets finish loading, but I can get it to replicate on a non-widget screen.
Anyone know how I can track down what is causing this? I was hoping ICS would fix it but its not.
Are you stock ICS?
Yup.. 4.0.3 stock.
I think is "sort of" figured it out. I read something somewhere, can't recall where, that having too many widgets pulling data on your home screens can cause it to error if you rotate before its able to finish loading.
It loads not just the widgets on your current screen, but all screens. So I killed a bunch I don't ever look at, and it seems stable. I'll go back adding one after another to test and see which crashes it.

Frequent "xxxxxxxx Not Responding. Wait? Close?"

Tried a couple of different ROMS out there, and I'm still getting frequent pausing, temporary locking up on my Gtab when trying to open apps. Am I rushing the poor old guy!? Usually it starts responding again before I even hit "wait" but the frequent pop-up when it slows is really getting to me. Anyone experiencing anything similar? Any good fixes???

What roms are you using? I had this issue with the last dirty bean but get it much less if at all with the 120dpi smoothbean. You can change the governor settins under settings/performance/processor as well as limit background processes to 2/1 that seems to help. I laso turn off sync on gmail which helps.

1. Try Advanced Task Killer and hit the widget button to nuke the memory hogs. There is
a lot of people who dont recommend task killing as a solution, but it seems to get me past the
force closes.
2. Try an old froyo rom like Vegan or TNT Lite 4.4

Recently I was having similar problems with the gtablet slowing down a lot, so I started uninstalling some of my apps.
I had about 220 apps with Application Storage at 212MB free. I messed some uninstall and got into a boot loop.
At which point I did a factory reset. The factory reset ROM was a lot faster. So when I restored my apps and settings
froim Titanium backup, I restored about 120 of them with Application Free Storage at about 700 MB now.
All the slowness of apps and market have gone away.
So I would say if you see a lot of Force Closes or hangs especially during Market Update, considering cutting
down on the number of apps you have. The key metric to see if you are getting full is the
Settings->Storage->Tablet Storage->Application Storage (for Froyo ROMs)

Switching to another app/Going to home menu causes a certain app to restart.

Hi,
Had this issue for a little while since after upgrading to Android N on my S7.
Prior to that, I could go to the home menu while Kingdom Hearts Union X is active or switch to another app, resume and the KH app would resume where it was.
Now it seems to start the app very briefly, then shuts down and requires a fresh boot of the app again.
Other apps I regularly use don't seem to have this problem, and I haven't seen any others complain about this issue for KH in particular, but I don't know what could be the cause on my phone?
I did try Greenify and S7 has some inbuilt thing to clear RAM and etc., but the same still seems to happen.
Anyone have any suggestions?
P.S. Also out of interest, I've read keeping all apps open on the multi-app screen is better practice than manually closing them? Is this true? And would they use internet data/resources in this state?
Thanks
