For those of you with a Samsung Galaxy SII i727, I just wanted to point out that there are two methods I currently see to root it, and one of those methods installs CWM.
Here's a link to a page with both rooting methods:
android.jakaar.net/skyrocket-rooting.html
And another link that just explains how to install CWM:
android.jakaar.net/skyrocket-clockworkmod.html
I hope this helps someone.
I'd be interested to see any Roms or kernels for it if anyone can point me in that direction.
i guess you didn't search before posting, as we already have multiple in XDA in house solutions for Rooting http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342712&highlight=root
and many more inside the DEV section

The first thread is a rooting method and the second is simply a posting of CWM recovery with installation instructions. Those are two very different threads.
As of right now, the roms for your S3 are not meant to be used on other S3 variants. Bricks might happens or a soft one might happen. Before flashing a Rom make sure you are in the right development section an you read the entire op, twice. Until other devs or experienced users find a way to make them cross compatible, please refrain from using other carriers S3 roms.
thanks for the warning for the less experienced users, here's to making a rom kitchen to move roms between devices
I am working on this so that all roms will work on all carriers

Such greatness!
I appreciate the warning. I came close to flashing another ROM. Kind of we had our own forum not a subforum.
I would also like to add, do not use ES Note Editor (part of ES File Explorer) to edit build.prop. I made one tiny change and rebooted and the phone wouldn't go past the boot logo. The fix was easy enough, but I wish I took the time to edit it properly.
Are the root methods carrier specific? Sorry for the noob question. So I'd be able to root using a Heimdall method for the i9300 - I'm on a Mac.

Yes, methods are carrier specific, don't use the i9300 methods. As far as I'm aware, Heimdall doesn't work. If you know how to use adb then you can try this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29175988&postcount=1
Otherwise you'll have to use bootcamp or some other method to get to windows.

Thanks. Yeah, it looks like Heimdall only works for i9300 not the VZW version. I'll probably just wait til I can borrow a PC laptop or someone comes up with a VZW Mac rooting method that's proven to work.
And while in the subject of being on the right development section...
Archangel, what's the difference between "Verizon S3 and android development" and "Verizon S3 ORIGINAL Android development"?
... I read the first one most of the time but why 2 sections?

Read my sticky in original development. XDA is trying to separate users that unzip a rom, toss in a few apps, then release it. Original development is for source built roms, cutting edge features(sense on Samsung S3, custom done ui. Etc) so users who want the best possible roms ASAP, without wasting time. It also helps shed light on those original roms
Hi all
Not really a noon, but seem to be either drawing a blank and getting conflicting comments and information!
So, in brief, I'm running stock Samsung jelly bean 4.1.1( Taiwan version). And it works fine.
I want to root so i can get cm 10.1 for that aosp feel.
I know that Macs use heimdall (got that) and i also understand i need to be on cwm recovery, but I'm struggling to find instructions as to how to actually root!
Which files do i need ( being on stock jelly bean), to use for heimdall in order to be able to flash cm10.1?
I do not have access to a windows computer, so unfortunately can't use Odin,
If anyone can point me in the right direction, id be very grateful.
I like to contribute comments for those in need on the forums.... and i now cone cap in hand asking for assistance
Many thanks all and a happy new year to you all
If you already in how how to use Heimdall, you can find the files in my guide (link in signature) ... just use CWM-SuperSU-0.96.zip.
Posted from my Galaxy Tab with CM10

many thanks indeed
Wondering if anyone can direct me, I need instructions (and download links), I have an old Galaxy Note 2 (i317) on stock (but rooted) 4.4.2. I'm giving it to my mother who is on T-Mobile and I'd like to switch the ROM over to a stock T-Mobile one. I've tried searching the forums and my results have been mediocre. I've put on custom ROMS before, installed CWM, stuff like that, but it's been a while and I'm a little rusty so guided instructions would be great. Any guidance to the right threads (I'm sure they exist) would be really appreciated.

You want to flash a T-Mobile ROM on your AT&T Notes 2 ... ?!
Please check the [REF] Your One-Stop Shop for the Note II (Kernels, Roms, Guides, Modems, Etc.) thread.
There you will find (nearly) all available ROMS for your device.
If you have further questions about your device, please ask in the AT&T Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
Thank you very much, just what I was looking for.

You are welcome.
Thread closed and thank you for letting me know.
Hey Ya'll
Happy New Year.
I have new old phone Samsung Note 2.
I'm going to be using this phone but have concerns about security and speed .
I also want to root my phone so I can remove the bloatware and, possibly, get my processor clocked a bit faster (activating the reduntant cores to would be great).
This is what I've learned from searching here:
1) KIngRoot || Root King - oneclick apps from the play store
2) custom rom - like cynagenmod.
- i'll be able to use FireFox the way I do on my Linux machine, but other than that I'm just a run of the mill iPhone user.
What kind of advice do you guys have for me? I look forward to learning tx:fingers-crossed:
For the people viewing but not posting.
Here's something I found using a DuckDuckGo (XDA search just came up with ads) from the XDA forums.
Galaxy Note 2 Rooting.
Flashing Custom Roms.
After days of trying to figure this out I'm just more confused.
Everytime I use the XDA search bar I get ADS. Thanks XDA.
The two links I posted to help here have good descriptions but the links end up going nowhere eventually.
From what I've gathered (on my own) I need to:
1) Root using Odin (found it somewhere else)
2 ) Download a "Custom Recovery" CWM/TWRP (can't find a good download for the dam thing)
3) Download Gapps (again, can't find a good Download for the dam thing)
4) Download a Custom ROM for my phone (and again, can't find a download)
I don't understand. Everyone Raves about XDA but theres only text instructions. Everyone says how there are great developers here and how this is a gret forum but I've yet to find anything here and none of the people who viewed this post even replied....
If your reading this and are trying to Root your Samsung Galaxy Note 2 I suggest you look somewhere else.
I don't think XDA is worth any of the hype people give it and we're just wasting our time here.
Hey, there.
First of all, you are new here and don't know how the XDA forums work, so be patient and don't jump to conclusions. Once you understand the forum's layout, you will see why everyone raves about XDA.
You first need to find your phone's subforum using search, and look there. It will have everything from general questions, rooting guides, to custom kernels, custom Roms, etc.
For your case, it's here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-2
Easiest way to root your phone is using Kingroot.
Download apk here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=22115
The custom ROM flashing guide you linked is general guide to flash any ROM and hence doesn't provide links. You need to find Rom you would like to flash(install) in the sub-forum and flash using that method.
Hit thanks if it helped. PM (private message) me if you need help.
