[Q] Displaying phone number in text messages - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

I've noticed in some of my text message threads the phone will display that contacts phone number alongside their name. With other contacts it will simply display their name alone.
Does anyone know how to toggle this feature on and off? Or what causes it in the first place? I've looked around and I can't find anything that lets me know why its doing it.
It's kind of annoying to see a phone number next to every text message when a name will suffice.

Is there some way to block the incoming call popup at the top?

The incoming call pop-up thingy is annoying me daily. The buttons are very small, and when I end a call I sometimes click after the other person has ended it so I then start to send a text message (same place button).
I have gone into apps and blocked the popup notifications for all 3 call apps, & the contacts app, and then I went to apps the can appear on top and turned off some stuff there as well, but still the popup stays.
So I would just like to have the normal call screen, at all times. The same one you get when you start a call yourself.
Is there a way, without rooting, to do this?
I've seen the google dialer apk which would probably fix it, but rather have stock dialer if possible.
It's in settings for Messages but not for Phone. Could be different for different Roms.
There is a line in phone preferences xml called "call_popup_preference"
If you're rooted you could try flipping that to false.

[Whatsapp] Notifications only show the lastly received message

Hey everybody,
I guess it has sth. to do with moving to android 7.0 recently (but I'm not entirely sure it has occured on every tested rom since then); my whatsapp notification from lockscreen or drawn down status bar just shows the last received message from a contact, instead of summarizing them to, for example, "2 new messages".
And when drawing down the whatsapp line in notifications, these new messages would have been shown in particular; in my case, nothing happens.
I think you all get the point.
Gmail or other apps still function in the used manner.
This is quite annoying since you read sth completely out of context from someone, until you open the whatsapp chat just to find out he wrote you a novel before.
Thanks.

Whatsapp problem solved on S8+

OK i use the S8+ and i HAD a huge problem with whatsapp notifications and the always pop up display. I like having the pop up appearing each time i receive
a whatsapp message, instead of that small blue pop box at top of screen. I tried everything to rectify the problem and even emailed whatsapp to sort it out.
As usual i just got a generic reply. All of the settings in the app and phone were all set properly and i was angry.
Besides whatsapp , i was also NOT getting proper text message notifcations, but the same old blue small banner at top of the screen.
What i did next astounded me. I DELETED whatsapp from my phone..................i reinstalled it straight away BUT..............................
Whilst i was installing it again, there are some TICK boxes to complete. The first was the usual stuff like allow all things like contacts, location, numbers etc etc......................the next box it asked if i wanted something to do with SMS settings etc (i forgot now)................i DECLINED this one or ticked NO.
Now.....everytime i use whatsapp i get the proper pop up screen......even in the locked screen, and i receive proper text messages as well. No more small blue banner at top of screen. So i guess if you accept the second box on installation you get the small banner preview box and it therefore conflicts against whatsapp..........and if you declne......you get a proper whatsapp and a proper text message.
Hope this clears everything up

You get the small blue popup when Edge Lighting is enabled, when it's disabled you get the regular Whatsapp popup.

Messages app: popup with phone numbers - why?

Every time I open and existing "chat" in Messages (Google's SMS messaging app), I see a popup near the text entry area that lists my phone numbers. I have G8142 with Android 8 and both SIM cards active. (See the screenshot below).
Actually, the same popup appears every time the message input field receives focus, e.g. immediately after posting a new message this happens as well.
If I select a number in that popup, the number gets inserted into the text entry field with pale yellow background. Other than that, it behaves as ordinary text. What is exactly the purpose of all that? Is there any way to turn off that behavior to get rid of that popup?
I just realized what it is: this is "Autofill with Google" service in Oreo. Apparently, for some reason Autofill believes that message entry area in Google's Messages app is a field for entering my phone number (?). So every time the field receives focus, Autofill service offers me to "autofill" it with one of my phone numbers.
A bug, obviously. Still wondering it this is specific for dual-SIM phones only...

Nexus 5 Marshmallow incoming calling screen

My contact settings include photos in the phone app.
When those people call me their caller ID and number are shown on the incoming calling screen but not their photo.
I note that if I disable the default phone app and use a 3rd party app (True Phone), there is no caller screen at all, just ringing. Therefore, there is no way to answer the phone. So, the default phone app has to run and the incoming calling screen must be generated by that app. However, I cannot find the setting and of course I can't find any setting for including the photos.
Could someone please help me include the photos of contacts in the incoming calling screen?
Thanks
On my phone with Android 7.0, I can set a photo for a contact only if the contact info is saved in phone other than in SIM card.
After a contact photo has been set, the photo will be shown on the incoming calling screen.
I don't believe that I am using contacts from SIM but the phone.
But, how do I tell?
I can't find that setting either.
I am using Android V6.0.1 (Marshmallow).
Edit: Just noticed that a picture is indeed showing but it is so dark that I didn't notice it before. However, I also notice on the picture there is a word written saying "Unknown" in the middle of the picture. What does that mean?
Just updated the stock Phone app and the picture now shows correctly.
However, the sticking problem of the "Unknown" is still shown.
I have attached a screenshot of the phone's call screen showing the picture and the word "Unknown" in the middle". I have blurred the phone number and street name.
Hope this helps someone point me to find the cause of this.

If all your incoming calls are showing as unknown, contact your service provider and ask if there is a problem with your account (service?) as it may not be a problem in your phone.
But if only incoming calls from some particular contact are showing as unknown, contact this guy and ask if he/she has hidden his/her caller id in his/her phone settings.
For example, setting to turn off Caller ID on a Huawei P9 as below.
Open Phone app,
then tap Menu icon > Settings > Additional Settings > Caller ID > Hide Number
Be aware that the number is only hidden on Voice calls not on SMS/MMS.
I think I may have tracked down the problem.
It's not the account or service provider.
I use a 3rd party lock screen (Start). I didn't think about looking at this because the incoming caller screen is generated by the default google phone app. But, if I disable the Start lock screen and go to the default screen the incoming caller screen does not have the "Unknown" banner. Therefore, I believe that the Start lock screen intercepts the incoming caller screen and inserts the "Unknown" banner for some reason. I am unable to find any setting in Start to remove this so I have emailed the authors and now have to wait for their response.
While I am on the incoming caller screen, where can I find the settings for the incoming caller screen?
