The stock recovery tar is posted for download. In the developmet section
This is 2.3.5. Is it already rooted, I see superuser.apk in the /system/app folder and I'm looking to start from super scratch.

I've read that thread over and over again and I have not come to a final verdict as to whether or not it will increment my flash counter; some say any Odin actions will, others don't. Any insight?

That I am very aware of, I am currently on bonestock with a nice 0 in my flash counter. I am basically looking for a raw 2.3.5 dump so I can customize my own ROM off the stock AT&T. I lost my nandroid backup of the AT&T with a SD card issue and the issue with the ODIN TARs is that it seems that things are missing, for instance there is no /data/app directly only a /system so I am a little confused, also not all of the .ext4 files mount easily in Ubuntu.

using ODIN to flash /system, /data, recovery, modem, WILL NOT INCREMENT any counter
using ODIN to flash KERNELS will increment

5 flash and reboot
Rom is:

Deodexed
Busybox and su installed

Yes, I have done this. ( not with odin, only used CWM )
What I have found is from ICS you have to flash a GB rom, as in a new, fresh flash. Then if you have a backup of that rom you can successfully restore it thru CWM.

It is the official ICS AT&T update from OCT, 2012, UCLI3. I have just packaged two versions odexed and deodexed, you can choose to install whichever one you wish. Please choose only one.

ʘ ALWAYS ALWAYS check the md5sum.

This is pretty simple.
- Make sure you download the ROM to the phone. (and any other add-ons).
- Backup. Backup.
- Verify md5sum.
- Boot into CWM recovery.
- Format System.
- Wipe Data and Cache Partition.
- Select the downloaded zip.
- Install.
- [OPTIONAL] If you want root. Install the su-busybox zip in the Downloads section. YOU WOULD STILL NEED TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL AFTER BOOT SuperSU or Superuser from PLAY STORE.
- [OPTIONAL] If you want the modified boot-image to support boot anim and other init.d functionality (you need busybox see above, for this). Flash the modified kernel/boot-image zip from the downloads.
- Boot and wait for at least 5-10 minutes.

1. Mobile odin, however I've personally never used it. There are probably guides out there somewhere how to return the phone to stock.
2. You may still be under samsung's warranty period, they don't care if your phone is rooted and will fix hardware problems. They will flash the most recent stock rom and firmware they have to your phone so you'd have to re root it.

Thanks for your help I was able to get a usb connection enough and I used Odin on my laptop. The only problem I have now is that the custom unblock symbol appears when I boot up the phone. Any idea how to remove that now that root is gone? Ignore the following words...my phone won't let me edit them out. Thanks again.
Edit: it looks like the file I used was a 4.0.4 image. For return purposes is it fine if it's the older version? There should be no signs of root now. I'll keep checking for updates though

You should be able to go into settings and factory reset your phone and then try taking the ota.

Thanks for your help throughout this process. I definitely was pretty frazzled at the whole thing !

I would, if you have an ics rom they will be able to tell something is off. It should accept an OTA update. If you can odin again, use the vrblk3 image and accept the ota to vrbmb1. It may not be updating due to to the jump from ics to the most recent base. That will make sure you're completely back to stock, with a locked bootloader, and a stock recovery.

I can only find 4.1.1 files...and the link posted earlier in the thread doesn't work. Any idea where to find a 4.1.2 version?
