[Q] Samsung Exhibit II 4G Wi-Fi Issues? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
tl;dr - Has anyone had trouble with their Samsung Exhibit II 4G seeing (let alone connecting to) certain Wi-Fi networks? Specifically, WPA2 AES protected Wi-FI networks? More specifically on a router running DD-WRT (in my case the version is DD-WRT v24-sp1 (07/27/08) vpn)?
Further explanation...
Go with the assumption I am not a complete idiot when it comes to connecting to Wi-Fi networks. My Exhibit connects fine to the Wi-Fi at work (which uses some type of enterprise level authentication). But I've never been able to get the phone connected to my home wireless, which is running the above mentioned DD-WRT with WPA2-Personal-AES encryption. Two laptops and my iPhone connect fine to this wireless network. I rebooted the router several times and rebooted the Exhibit many times. At one point I even turned off the encryption, and the Exhibit still didn't see the network. If I manually input the SSID and passcode, the entry on the Wi-Fi screen just says the network is not in range (even though I am sitting right next to the router).
Initially, the Exhibit does not even see the network, even though the SSID is set to broadcast. If I then run the WLAN Test sequence *#*#526#*#* (which runs successfully), the Exhibit will see the network, authenticate successfully, but then just goes in a loop of "Connecting...", Disconnected, Connecting..., Disconnected. It never completely connects.
My Google searches have come up empty for any specific Wi-Fi bugs with Android 2.3.5 with this behavior, or issues 2.3.5 and DD-WRT specifically.
Thanks in advance for any help. This is driving me crazy.

Did anyone face the same problem? Is there a known solution? I got the phone today and it does not connect to my home network, but connects to other wifi networks.

I don't have this problem, but your best bet would be to repost at one the links I posted above. Dev is more active than discussion, but both are read.

I'm seeing the exact same problem. Using DD-WRT on my router and I can't connect - even with all encryption turned off. My SSID is visible, but that's about where it stops. I keep getting an "Authentication Error" message.
Did you get anywhere with your investigation?

[Q] Wifi Connection Problems - Vegan-Tab

Need a little help. My G-tab is running current VEGAn-TAB rom. I am having problems getting the wifi to actually connect. My icon shows a good signal, and inside the wireless settings I am showing connected to my wireless network. I also went to advance settings and made sure wifi never sleeps. All apps that need internet connection (market, browser, etc.) show no data connection.
Used yesterday with no problems. My laptop is running on same network and working fine.
Any ideas?
have you restarted? Sometimes happens to me too but it's nothing a simple restart can't fix.
Yes. Restarted several times. Didn't work.
Oddly enough I have a Airave from Sprint to boost my cell phone signal, and it may have been the problem. When I unplugged it and returned to my G-Tab later the Wifi was working. Not sure why.

Could be competition on the 2.4 GHz frequencies. Some wireless phones and even microwave ovens can trash a wifi connection.

Anyone else having WiFi problems with Vegan? Since installing this mod, I can only connect to a WEP signal and not a WPA-secured network.
I can't connect either. Trying to connect to a wep wifi and it stays on "obtaining ip address from ..." but never completes the connection. Any help?

No problems with home WEP, office WPA2-PSK and several wide open public ones. I just wish the damn thing would auto-connect to the ones I have been to before.

My only guess is, if its a 5Ghz N Router you should check to see if it allows
2.4Ghz signals and not just 5Ghz. The GTAB doesn't seem to support connections at 5Ghz.
I just changed over from TNT Lite(latest version) and was able to connect fine but I didn't like the interface and some of the features. I've loaded Vegan tab 7.0.0 and I was able to connect at work (802.1 EAP) network but I can't connect to a wep wifi at home (were several other pc's are connected and working fine) and it stays on "obtaining ip address from ..." but never completes the connection. Any help?
I have a Linksys wrt300n router and have confirmed that it configured to accept 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz signal and have rebooted several times with no luck.
I don't have a lot to add to help you troubleshoot, but I can say that I am running VEGAn Gingerbread RC1 with pershoot's latest kernel. I am able to connect at home on a WAP2-PSK (Linksys Linux based G/N) at home, WAP2-PSK at the cabin (Linksys's cheapest G/N), and at work on a 802.1 EAP network (Cisco).
I has some unexplained issue mounting the internal storage on a computer. After a little head scratching, I started to wonder if it had something to do with the custom kernel I was running. I flashed Pershoot's latest kernel and my problems went away.
I mention all that to suggest that you might try flashing a different kernel and see if you get different results.
I have an issue with vegan where when i reboot the device (or turn off and turn on) wifi is off even if left on when turning off, i have to manually turn on wifi after every boot.

Have you checked to see if you're using MAC address filtering, and if so, that your gTab's MAC address has been added to the whitelist on the router? I get the feeling that that may be the issue. You have the WEP key on your device, but your router's still blocking it. I'm running the same ROM you are, and have had absolutely no troubles connecting to my work network with 802.1 PEAP, WPA/WPA2-TKIP and AES at home, and multiple makes/models of access points/routers.
Hmmm. Just reread your original. Now I'm wondering if you have enough DHCP leases available on your router. If you're out, you'll have to wait until a lease expires or add some more to your scope of addresses.
Hope some of that helped in some way...

[Q] Wireless distance issues with Sharp IS03

I originally posted this in the IS03 sub-thread but received no replies.
Not root-related but since a little under a week ago, my IS03 has been having a real hard trouble with wifi when at home. If I move more than 4 meters or so away form the router, I cannot access anything.
When this happens, I'll disable/renable wifi (from 4-5 meters away or further) and one of two things will happen: 1. My network will not even show up or 2. My network will show up (with a 'good' or 'fair' wifi status) but when I try to connect, it will disconnect immediately.
What I noticed through the Wifi Analyzer app was that even when the Android wouldn't show my network on the network list, wifi analyzer still registered it about -70dbm.
I originally thought the router is to blame but both my wife's AU HTC Evo and my Amazon Kindle have no problems using wifi from the same distance.
I also thought that perhaps the cover I have for the phone may be collecting dust so I removed it to no avail.
Any ideas why the wifi in my phone is acting up?
Thanks.
UPDATE since original post: I moved my router (Linksys WRT160N V3) to a more central location and installed DD-WRT (TX Power power set to default 71) and the problem went away for about a week but now it has returned. Both my Kindle and my wife's Evo have no issues with accessing the internet through wifi from the other side of the apartment but the IS03 cannot.
If I try to connect to wifi and I am right next to the router, one of three things will happen: 1. It WILL connect but I cannot access the net. 2. The network will show up on the available network list but it won't automatically connect (will say the network is disabled. If I try to manually connect, it will immediately disconnect. 3. Network won't even show up.

[Q]AES encryption on WiFi not connecting?

My modem broke down a few days ago, so I got a replacement. I don't remember the previous WiFi settings, but the network in use previously was probably WPA2 TKIP secured, because every device in the house was able to connect to it. I set up the new one on WPA2 AES, but the phone fails to connect to it. It is visible in the WiFi list, but it doesn't work. I went back to TKIP, because there was also a laptop and a Blackberry in the house that couldn't connect because of the AES encryption, but it bugs me that I can't connect to a whole range of networks out there. A friend's Samsung Galaxy S i9000 (GB 2.3.5 stock) connects just fine, and since it's older, and I also doubt LG would be cutting costs on WiFi chips at this level, I assume it's a software issue, but I can't be sure.
Has anyone been able to connect to AES-encrypted wireless networks? I tried on v10d, v21a and v21b, with the same result.

[Q] New Nexus 5 doesn't see my Wi-Fi network, but sees others

I bought a Nexus 5 when they were first released. During the setup process, it listed available Wi-Fi networks, mine was on the list, and I could connect to it just fine.
I had a few issues with the handset that Google were helping me to try and troubleshoot, but in the end they said that they would send me a brand new device. It arrived today, but during the setup process, it will see the Wi-Fi networks of my neighbours, but not my own. I entered in the details of it manually, and while it does appear on the list then it just says "not in range" even though I'm sitting 3 feet from the wireless router (a Virgin Media SuperHub).
All of the other devices I have with Wi-Fi, including the other Nexus 5 which I have not sent back yet, can see my Wi-Fi network address just fine and connect to it. I am not using any settings that would prevent a device from connecting, such as MAC address filtering - this is just a standard WPA2 Wi-Fi network that's password protected. I have tried rebooting the router, but it makes no difference.
Any idea what the cause of this could be? Wi-Fi on the phone clearly works as it can see my neighbours' networks - it just can't see mine.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Just wondering what is the channel your router is set to? If the router is set to a channel outside of the region your phone is set to you will have problems.
i had same issue. got the device last week, opened the box and started setting the phone up. when i got to the WIFI connection section i could see other WIFI routers but not mine. i i inserted a SIM card, continued setting up the device with 3G. after device boot up again i could see my router SSID. since then everything's fine.

WIFI connections issues on connection and speed

Hi. Recentlly I bought a Samsung S7(G930A - AT&T version) as refurbished one. I found a big issue what hurts me a lot. Here are some issues with wifi:
I could not really connect to a lot of WIFI networks, it says "connecting" after that it drops and cycle begins once again infinitly.
On several networks it shows "authentication error occured" , although wifi is public and another devices connects to than one.
On several networks, it connects but connection is very slow(0).. only way to make a better connection, is to put phone on router...awful...
On one networks which i tried, it worked ok..it's an 5ghz wifi. although, not for a long distance from router.
I installed all updates, tried troubleshots from internet with bluetooth, reset and everything..but no success at all... Now I think that problem is really in hardware... Had anyone such issues ? Any solutions to fix ?
Please help...

I had frequent wifi connection authentication errors when connecting with my home wifi and slow Internet loading speeds with my Galaxy tablet, but all my other wifi devices connect consistently without errors.
The steps below solved a similar problem with my Samsung Galxy Note 10.1, and it might help with your Galaxy 7. Some of the steps may vary with your device, but the goal is to set wifi Poxy Settings to NONE, and IP Settings to DHCP. It completely resolved my home wifi authentication error and slow spped when browsing.
For the Galaxy Note 10.1: Settings> WiFi> long press the SSID/router name(the wifi you want to connect to)> Modify Network Config> check the box "Show Advanced Options">set proxy settings to "None" -- set IP settings to "DHCP"> Save.
Now my wifi connection with the Galaxy note 10.1 are quick, consistent, and Internet pages load fast.
I hope this is helpful.
