[Q] Need help rooting 2.3.3 - T-Mobile LG G2x

Okay, so I have the Lg G2x running OTA 2.3.3.
I'm currently trying to root this phone by surfing the web and reading all the forums.
I can't even get the slightest idea on how to root other than NVFlash? and the fact that people are unable to root in general.
If anyone is willing to help me out. Im android savy, but not too savy. Emails, replies, anything, would be great help.
[email protected]

You must NVFlash first in order to root Gingerbread. No other way. Then you flash a pre-rooted from or flash my root zip (if you want to keep stock rom) that is linked in my signature.

If you have any questions about rooting the g2x just drop me an email at [email protected]. I have 2 g2x's and I'm a full time writer at ACS. WILL BE happy to help. I have all the programs / files needed.

like boxer said. I did my own research plus experience rooting mytouch, G1, nexus one, and HD2 so I had a general idea. Always go to android and development section and read the wiki. 2.3 version always NVflash, then go to recovery to flash your rom.

All you need is the one click nv recovery flasher from tga gunman here in these forums. Its very easy on a windows 7 pc.

trying to root my htc sprint hero 1.5 help
Hey man everyone started from the same spot your in. People on here are SUPER helpful, but easily get annoyed by people asking the same questions and not posting them in the right section. USE SEARCH! its your best friend, every question has been asked over 3 times. My advice, read everything on rooting (terminology, dangers, benefits, which type of root fits your needs, which ROM you want to flash) after a week or so on researching, find an RUU file in a thread. Then load that on your phone and follow the command prompt instructions carefully. Remember to use search, and rooting can brick, break, your phone. But the benefits of rooting are well worth It.

Go to the development section and look at the top posts(stickies), they have all the instructions there.

Upgrade to 2.1 first. Easier to root for me plus you're already upgraded then.

3 days ago I also had 1.5 which was rooted already. I then upgraded to the newest fw and then rerooted using the one click method that you will find here in xda forums. Worked without probs and was EXTREMELY easy.

Hey dude, I'd recommend using this link right here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
It tells how to get your phone to the stock 2.1 and then how to root that.
If you read down through the first 2 or 3 posts, all the instructions are there and it's really hard to mess them up if you follow exactly what is typed.
You don't even HAVE to upgrade to 2.1, but I'd recommend doing it first.
If you don't want to mess with the link I included above, you can just root it from 1.5 like it is now using some of the one-click methods out there on the forum. If you go to the Development section of this HTC Hero forum and look around for any threads with ROOT in the title, you should be able to find anything you need.
Also check out the Take Control link down in my signature below -- it has a lot of helpful posts and info too.

[Q] hi guys noob here!

I just got my g tablet.
I want to root the device and later install a rom I was thinking on robeet`s tntlite
My question is, do I have to install first the 4.2.0. and later the 4.2.5 supplement?
Do I have to root it to attempt rom trials or can be done without rooting? anyway i was thinking to use z4 root.
any advice?
Thanx in advance Im absolutely new to android but Im an ios developer.
Would post a link if I had my tab with me but if you look in the development section there is a thread telling you exact steps to do what you want to. It has all the links for downloads you will need.
Oh this method involves mounting and unmounting partitions instead of using a rooting tool. Its worth doing this way. I felt it taught me more about my device. Good luck and have fun!

Thank you for replying, I was following this article:
How to unleash the power of your g tablet from android police( I cant post links yet)
I will search for the thread you are mentioning but if you can later please post it here I would really appreciate your help.
I recommend this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
HOWEVER... read about the available ROMS first. Check out the features and the caveats. See if Flash is already installed so you can skip a step in that instruction guide. Etc... Etc...
Most importantly... have fun and let us know how it goes ;-)
Edit: FYI... The current crop of custom ROM's come pre-rooted for your convenience. It's no longer a requirement to root the device first.
Thanx a lot bro, you helped me a lot with your reply, I will attempt all this at home since my office is 100% mac.
btw is this g tablet mac compatible? lol sorry for the noob questions
Quetions are good. They allow us to help and learn from each other.
Mac Compatible... Oh, yes. I'm typing this from my MacBook Pro which has a VirtualBox session running linux when necessary for nvflashing ;-) Your gTablet's internal memory can be mounted on your Mac desktop via USB or it can be shared via FTP or AFP using a few free apps from the market. Best of all worlds in my opinion.
Yep that's the thread I was thinking about. Glad someone found you the link.
Exactly what was said before, don't forget to have fun and let us know how it went for you and what rom you decided on.

As already referenced, this was the thread that I used, for my first upgrade.
I would recommend loading CWM as well, to redo your partitions to 2,0
Out of curiousity:
Did your new tablet boot up to a welcome screen with setup questions & an end user agreement or did it present you with a home screen ?
Thanx guys, Yap at the end I decided to went with tntlite 4.2.5
LGcubana
My gtab presented me with a home screen and since the beginning crash after crash! so dissapointing... inmediately picked up a new update and everything went smoothly after that, flash running, angry birds from factory presets and so on but I still wanted to moded the tab so that´s what I did.
Btw any of you guys know of a barscan app for the gtab so i can download apps faster from sites like appaware? I don´t know why but the android marketplace is not letting me install that app. Compatibility perhaps?

Help please!! samsung i897 captivate

Hi guys i'm nes on this forum, i'm italian and i have a samsung captivate i897, i also take this opportunity to introduce myself...
Now i expose you the problem:
i have a i897 captivate marked AT&T for this i have a problem to fix the GPS and to install applications outside the market, I would like you to help me to make clean OS from the applications AT & T and put in i897 a i9000 ROM not rooted...please guys help me, and thanks in advance
1. Read the new owners guide.
2. This forum is about learning things by yourself. Don't expect to be spoonfed.
3. Custom ROM always =Rooted mind you.

I read the guide but i'm desperate,do you recommend something? can u post the link of the better rom and kernel that i can use? im noob in android world
I can't recommend anything man. Everything is good.
You have to discover by yourself what suits your needs.

the new user guide (that i wrote) teaches about stickies! and where to find them!
find the stickies in the captivate general, q&a and dev forums they have all the answers you are looking for and way more.
go. read. learn.
this is really basic stuff. At&t does not like you installing apps not from the market "its called side loading" you need to be rooted to fix it and there are pleanty of guides "one click root has an option to enable non market apps" to get a different rom go to the dev sectoin chose a rom and follow the simple directions or for a guide for the entire process http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Assuming what you meant was that you want ATT's crap taken off and a new ROM...
Why would you not want your device rooted? If voiding your warranty is a concern it's fine, there are plenty of methods to return back to stock Eclair/Froyo. And there really isn't a ROM out there that's head and shoulders over the rest, you're going to have to play around and see which one you like the feel of the best. Try out a different ROM every couple of days and see how you like it.

If you are asking someone to help you build a rom well... I don't think that will happen. You can go to samfirmwares.com and download a stock i9000 rom, but without root you, and if you don't know how to build to incorporate the home button and haptic feedback fixes, your phone won't work right. My suggestion is to go to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790
They are all stock i9000 roms with only busybox and root installed. I'm using the stock jvh on my captivate, at the moment, and it works great. You will have to deal with root. It's better to be rooted anyway.

Only replying to that small part of your post, and correcting you by saying no, you don't need to be rooted to sideload applications. SWM (Sideload Wonder Machine) can do it so long as you have the drivers installed and USB Debugging on. I installed several applications as soon as I got the phone, long before I ever rooted my phone, much less installed a custom ROM on it.

Why didn't you use google? There are plenty of places that explain how to root that aren't on this site, which is more an "advanced" place anyways(I use that term loosely, but I get the idea that people here assume you know a little about your phone).
Check out MobileTechVideos, the guy who does those had a three-part, in-depth ROM flash set of videos that explain exactly how to use One-Click to Root.
Edit:
Christ dude, use some decent punctuation and at least attempt to be succinct in your requests. Freaking out isn't going to get you anywhere.

[Q] ROM Manager from Android Market on the G2X

Hi all.
I'm interesting in beginning to make some mods to my G2X.
I've seen some people posting that there is a very unique way to successfully get CWM (ROM MANAGER) on the phone.
I came from a Samsung Vibrant. On the Vibrant, I simply Downloaded ROM Manager from the market, and that worked like a charm.
I've downloaded ROM manager from the market on my G2x. There have been 2 or 3 updates to the app since I downloaded it.
With the version of ROM Manager that I have, am I okay to begin flashing zips, or will I mess my phone up?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Start by deleting this post. Then search. Then, if still confused, repost in the right section. This is just going to get flamed.

1st, welcome to the G2x.
2nd, this should have been posted in Q&A to keep the Dev Section clean.
3rd, though RM has a version of CWM for the G2x, it is best to flash recovery through NVFlash.
You can get all you need from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Wrong forum buddy, there is a G2x Q&A where someone will answer your question, this forum is only for development of the G2x, not for questions.
Flame on.
Wrong forum. Should be in questions.
To answer your question... yea that works but you should nvflash Clockworkmod first.
Nvflash will stick and enables power+down to get into recovery while booting.
Simply using rom manager WILL work but doesn't enable power+volume down on boot up. So if you use rom manager and something screws up and you bootloop... it'll be harder to fix.
Lesson: nvflash once... then use rom manager as normal. Best of both worlds.
G2x CM7.1 style - Android 2.3.4
Thanks everyone for your help.
Sorry about posting in the wrong spot... I'll make my way to Q&A.
Id like to be the first to say sorry for some rude people. Nvflash is how we get down in the g2x forums.
Its not hard either
this will get you going if you havent figured out yet.

[Q] TOTALLY NEW! HELP IM A NEWB! TUTORIAL FOR ROOT, FLASHING...etc for LG G2X! HELP!

Hey pros and newbs, like me lol, I need help rooting, flashing ... etc for my LG g2x. Yes I chose it over the Samsung Galaxy S2 because it looked and felt smoother when i handled both. But any way, can anyone create a step by step tutorial instead of clicking all these links and sending me to different pages and just keep it on one page? I really want to learn! I tried going about it but just worried about bricking my phone. If any one could help it would mean alot to me, the present and future hackers for android! 8)
Go spend some time reading in the development thread, There are already many thread with lots of information.
Start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049154
Please READ MORE. People are not as willing to help someone who doesn't not seem like they have read the basics. Also slow down with all the "I'm a NEWB stuff". You are most likely to get flammed. Try to seem more mature and you'll get better results and answers.
Assuming you get G2x with Gingerbread you would...
1. NVFlash ClockworkMod (Do this right & and it will be hard to brick)
2. Flash Rooted Rom of your choice. (Gain root access)
To answer your most likely next few question:
WeaponX for 2.3.3
CM7, EagleBlood, MIUI for 2.3.7
(Personal preferences)
What OS u have on your computer? Also go see what version of android u have. 2.2.2 or 2.3.3. After y answer those questions ill walk you through it.
