about hot reboot ? - General Questions and Answers

whai is hot boot or hot reboot..in sense rom i saw the option of hot restart also..anybody please explain little bit about this...

the phone reboots because the phone goes too hot if you wanna prevent this from happening use setcpu and make a profile for 40 degrees that underclocks your cpu so that it wont get hot

I think: it reboots the phone without powering off, giving you a faster startup time whilst freeing up RAM.

Downclock with screen off

The problem is, no matter what program I use, if I set the Tab to downclock at 100/200 or even 100/400 when the screen is off, the phone will freeze in sleep and force me to reset the tablet pressing the power buttornfor 7 seconds.
Anybody else have this issue?

do you use SerCPU?
I set is 100/400, it sometimes work but my phone was getting random reboot.
So I disabled it...

same issue with me , if I set the cpu to 100 to 300 it would hang or crash coming out of sleep mode . I ended up removing setcpu and going back to stock . i expect the Cooked roms will resolve this later on .
Probably kernel related. If i select the Set On Boot option, after a reboot both min/max freqs will change to a min of 19 and max of 500. Probably best to leave it until we have devs working on it.

there's really no need to underclock when the screens off, you know that right?

Get an app to graph the cpu use, and you will see the cpu spike when sleeping.
So, in short, yes: downclocking with the screen off really help the battery life

It doesn't make much difference as the cpu scaling does a more than adequate job, but whatever wets your whistle

[Q] how hot is too hot ?

so I'm still liking the sensation have a few problems with it but 1 thing I'm unsure of is how hot can this thing get before I need to worry.
the widget that I use shows me the temperature of my phone
most of the time it's just under 100 or just over 100 degrees fahrenheit, however when I'm playing a game right asphalt 6 this sucker really starts to heat up .
to like 116 118 fahrenheit .
so I ask how hot is too hot at what temperature should I start to worry about overheating or damaging the phone somehow
Don't worry, when I'm playing angrybirds my phone gets at least as hot as yours. Try installing a home-cooked ROM from the development section, these guys know their things and will get you better sensation for sure.
Again, heat is normal. At least with my knowledge.
I know a lot of people don't let their phones get over 45*C, which is about how hot your phone is getting. I would say 1) that temp shouldn't be bad as long as it's not at that for long periods of time, and 2) as long as it isn't getting hotter than that, you should also be fine. Still, underclocking it with custom kernel wouldn't hurt. Our phones are powerful enough that underclocking it a bit shouldn't take a hit on performance, plus it should take away some of the heat.
My phone idles at 29*C and gets up to 45-50*C while playing games (Asphalt 6 is one of them). I left the phone charging in the window under direct sunlight and it hit 48-49*C while idle/screen off (didn't do that again!).
As with PCs, as long as it doesn't stay high for extended periods of time I'm sure you're fine. You can try custom ROMs/Kernels to see if one is better than the other.
OT but I remember my laptop getting to 90*C running an "unsupported" OS on it.
122*F is the damage point.

Maybe you forgot to lower the minimum frequency. I use No frills set CPU. Just set 300 minimum if your not going to play.

Is this normal on Galaxy S3?

Hello all, new here and have a question
So I have the S3, it's only been 2 weeks, no root.
I've thought about rooting it, however I don't want to yet break the warranty as I think there might be a problem with the phone.
My Quadrant bench is usually around 5500-5700, however when running intense games (nova, the dark Knight rises etc), the phone heats up loads, which I assume is normal, the first 10-20 mins of playing is fine, after it starts to drop to really low fps, force closing the app and running quadrant it gives me a bench of 2500, now the weird part, it stays at the said 2500 for hours, even if I let the phone still and come back later its still 2500. The only way I've found to fix it is a battery pull for 5 min.
This same problem happens when downloading files at a fast speed with a torrent client.
Is this something I should be aware of, or is it normal?
Please help!

I think it might be because of overheating after playing games;s3 underclocks its cpu when it overheats so its not an issue big enough though

I had the same problem. The phone would heat up at the bottom to the point where it's a bit uncomfortable to hold.
This heating was followed by crashing and a few times my home screen would be wiped completely.
I had to get a replacement. So far so good, but it still heats up when browsing on the internet.
Any suggestions? I'm not rooted and I use go launcher. My vibrant never got this hot.

Hot Phone...

Hello. My Nexus 5 has been getting really hot while watching movies. I am using a SlimPort to display video to my TV. I am also charging my phone through the Slimport as well. In the past, my phone would get warm, but never so hot that my phone powers down. I have been using the same SlimKat Rom, so nothing has changed as far as that. Would changing any of the CPU settings help in any way? Thanks.

first off, by hot you mean what temp? CPU and/or battery temp.
now, while you are watching movies, its normal for it to warm up quite a bit. if you add to that being plugged in charging, it can get down right hot. but there are 2 safeties features in place so that you dont worry. first is the thermal throttle, which will reduce your CPU speed to cool down your device. if that doesn't stop the warming up, you have the battery temp safety shutdown and the CPU temp safety shutdown. battery temp shutdown is when your battery reaches 60C, and CPU temp shutdown is when your CPU reaches 105C. but really, just realize that when you are charging, and using your phone, it can get really hot, and that's normal.
It may just be warmer weather which has your phone running warmer then before. Does SlimKat alter thermal throttling limits?
