possible to hide notification bar, but still pull down? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is this possible
hide the notification bar
but still be able to pull down and reveal notifications
I've always wondered so. It would look so clean, and work so well with certain setups!

I know you can on ADW EX..... can't remember whether Go Launcher or Launcher Pro can.....haven't used those in quite a while....
Long days and pleasant nights............

ADW Launcher Ex does that. it's what i use. then just set gestures - swipe down - open notifications.

oh damn, thanks anyways
im on LPP

Launcher Pro does do this. At least hides the notifcation bar. I use a swipe up to show the notifications. Doesnt take to long to get used to..

Also try Zeam if you prefer something lightweight.

Go Launcher has a function you can set to draw the status bar up and down. It works very well, Drag up and it goes away. Drag down and it appears. Drag down and notifications then drag down.
Dave

ADW is what i'm using now and am loving it for this reason. On my hero and evo i always used lp, when i got the epic it was go launcher. Even though i used ADW in the past i just stumbled across that feature recently and it is by far my favorite.

+1 for zeam on lightweight launchers.
Ics launcher will let you hide the notification bar and give you a taste of ICS at the same time

im using launcher pro and i do not see any options to use a 'swipe' action for custom actions.
how ever i do have my status bar hidden and changed my home key button to show/hide my notifications instead of showing a preview of all my screen which works better for me since im only using 3 screen

long press one of the dock icons, you can then choose "Swipe gesture"
I do the same as lilmexx, hide notification and swipe up across my dock icon to open the notifications.

[Q] Searched, tested, tried. Toggles in notification bar?

Ok. Looked and tried all kinds of things. I have the Droid bionic. its a great phone. for the most part, i love it. But is there any way to put some toggle switches in my notification bar? toggle notifications takes up too much space, and the all in one requires a pop up. Same for widgetsoid. had the incredible with cm7. If i could have something like power control widget right in the task bar that would be perfect. Or miui's toggle setup. is there anything i've missed?
thanks for your time.

I think it's a known gingerbread issue, no word on the Widgetsoid dev as of late... correct me if I'm wrong. I'm using quickdesk, I googled this problem and found a thread from a droidx forum that recommended the app. Just double tap home to bring up a homescreen that goes over your home screen, or any application you are on and you can put any widget or app of your choosing, it's not as easy as the notification pull down, but it's relatively fast to toggle what you need and you're not taking up screen space. Hope this helps.

[Q] Tweaks in JB on TF101

I just installed RaymanFX's JB CM10 port and I am very happy with it. However, there are still a few things that I don't know about Jelly Bean. Maybe somebody can teach me
How do I remove all notifications at once from the status bar? On ICS I clicked a small "x" and all notifications disappeared.
How do I get the little dots back that indicate on which home screen I am? I tried the setting "settings -> Launcher -> Homescreen -> Show page indicator" but it doesn't show.
I might add to this list as I familiarize myself with that amazing ROM.
Thanks all

At the top right of the notification pop-up you'll see three slanted bars. Click that to remove all notifications.
Yeah, the slanted lines act as a clear notifications.
As for the home screen indicators, I'm not sure if the stock launcher has that ability. You might have to install another launcher. Lately, I've been liking Nova, it's really customizable.

Thanks! I just noticed the bars... Maybe they are supposed to symbolize all the notifications being swiped away???
For the homescreen indicators you can use any other launcher... Beeing using nova launcher and no problems so far...

Have you tried (& succeeded) hiding the onscreen buttons and using gestures instead

Have you tried (& succeeded) hiding the onscreen buttons and using gestures instead
I tried getting rid of the nav bar and used the pie controls, but it just feels weird , it's not instantaneous like the on screen buttons. I think gestures would be a better option, something like swipe left back, swipe right :multitasking swipe down:home
I know there's a "swipe back" mod on Xposed, but it doesn't work all that well, with a lot of apps it just sends to the homescreen and sometimes the previous screen becomes the "wallpaper" when I'm on the homescreen.
I tried too an app called "swipe home back" but it just some presets and I cannot set the way the gestures work
If you are rooted you can use LMT Launcher with Gestures and/or ISAS commands.

It won't replace Google Launcher. LMT is like a PIE advanced app.
i think u meed a diff phone for that. those soft buttons are a replacement for those phones without the 3 hard buttons.

Another way to "Knock Off"

Hey guys. I wanted to share this. I use Nova launcher so I don't have the ability to Knock Off from my home screen. I have been trying to use the knock off on the status bar and it's just never right. I always ended up clicking and opening settings, or it just didn't work. When your phone is laying on its back with the rear buttons we have sometimes you may want to turn it off without using the hardware buttons.

I have disabled the quick settings with Xposed and use power toggles instead. It's great for adding a screen lock to the status bar and also torch. I just wanted to share that set up. Screen lock works EVERY time.

If you're using nova wouldn't it be easier to install a screen off app and set double tap gesture to that app, that's what I do and it works perfectly.

Well, I already use Power Toggles. I hate the stock Quick Settings. I tried that idea but then Nova Launcher just opens another app and I still have to click something in that app. So, having a quick setting in Power Toggles is easier for me.

Just like James as stated. I use Nova Launcher Prime and didn't want to lose the Knock On/Off feature.
So I installed Screen Off And Lock:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.katecca.screenofflock
Under Gestures, assign the Double Tap to this Application. You can still hide the App within the App Drawer so no one would be the wiser.
you can also set a long press action to a nav-bar icon to lock screen with G2 exposed. thats what i use rather than knockoff.
Using this one with Nova Prime gesture. I see absolutely no need to have an app bigger than 50KB for such a simple task and this one is like 20KB and does the job perfectly. Keep it tiny and simple is my moto

Kudos to you, works perfectly and no additional battery drain
I second the "Screen Off and Lock" app from the Play Store. Assign that to the Double Tap gesture in Nova Prime. Boom. Just like stock. Quick and painless. I hide the App from the Drawer and forget all about it.
This allows you to double tap anywhere in the launcher or Status Bar to turn off the screen. Best way to do it.

I would think it would work with any launcher that supports gestures. You just set the gesture to trigger knock off.

Alright.Unfortunately i think GNow Launcher doesn't support gestures
Yea it will work with any launcher that supports double tap. I've always used Nova Prime so it was a no brainer. I used to use Double Tap for the app drawer and delete the drawer icon from the dock. I like screen off better though.

If you used the elemental x kernel you can choose to swipe acroos the nav bar. There is also a mod in the sense toolbox (xposed module) to use hold the back button when on the homescreen to go to sleep.

If you have something like nova launcher you can use the above program to sleep your phone using knock or swipe gestures. There is also an exposed module with swipe gesture shortcuts to turn off your phone. It's sense 6 or gravitybox I can't remember. I use insertcoins tap time to sleep since I like BlinkFeed launcher and xposed seems to marginally slow down the UI

Thanks for the tip! I already had this app, but did not know you can swipe up from the homescreen to lock. I relied on the widget, but its much easier to swipe up on any screen
I was just talking to my friend about this the other day since we both had galaxy s3s and the power buttons broke around the same time. Thanks for the heads up

Thank you for this! I never use Google Now myself so this is the perfect solution for me as I wanted a way to swipe to lock the phone.
Hi guys you all are welcome. We are here sharing and learning. ?
Great thnx for sharing. Been using the HTC gesture listener but the three finger thing was quite cumbersome to use. this one seems far better
Nice app! I've noticed that you can now double tap to unlock even if you didn't pick up the phone first and it's already in your hand. Also if the phone is sitting on your desk you don't have to pick it up to unlock anymore......just double tap. Very nice indeed.
