Hello
I have just installed my first custom ROM, which is Bugless Beast.
I would like to try out franco.Kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19158496
What are the steps for installing a new Kernel ?
same way as flashing a rom... wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache... and then install zip from sd card .. and reboot..

Wouldnt that mess up the ROM ?
Which Kernel works best with Bugless Beast ?
I am thinking of tyring out francos and Matr1x kernels

No it will not. The beat kernel that works with Pete's rom is his kernel that's included in his rom bit any other kernel should work fine

should i wipe the data as well for installing new kernel ?
Or just wipe the Cache partition and the Dalvik Cache and then install from zip ?
Just installed a new Kernel "GLaDOS" by Ezekeel.
Its running fine now. Still testing.

Hi!
At my Nexus S I do use CM7 nightly #144 atm. Now I would like to try CM7 with Netarchy's kernel 1.3.7 (Netarchy Nexus - 1.3.7-cfs-2.3.4-universal (Universal for non-stock 2.3.4 roms)).
I backed up everything using ClockworkMod 3.0.2.4 as well Titanium Backup Pro.
When downloading the 1.3.7 kernel I place it in root at sd card and now I have some questions:
Which kind of wipes do have to do (or should I do)? And when? Before updating or after updating?
wipe data/factory reset? (I guess no?)
wipe cache?
wipe dalvik cache?
Do I have to use "fix permissions" after the update?
Thanks in advance =)
For flashing a new kernal
Boot into recovery...
Wipe cache...
Wipe dalvik cache...
Flash kernal...
Reboot...
As always make a nand backup just in case...

if the kernel is compatible with the rom, i dont think you have to wipe anything
When flashing a new kernel wipe the cache and dalvik cache. Neaither one of these will erase any of your data so it is always best to be on the safe side when flashing and erase both of these for good measure.

Thanks a lot!
Btw, does a full wipe/factory reset wipes also dalvik?

I just flashed the 8/15 version of PA and was wondering if i have to completely wipe everything just to update to 8/18?
It is always recommended to do so to avoid any problems. But you can flash without the wipes and if you run into many issues, wipe and reflash

You should not have to wipe data, just wipe cache and dalvik cache. However it is a better chance of no force closes or other problems if you do wipe everything between upgrades.
following the question above about upgrading, do I also need to reflash the kernel too?
Yes you would have to flash the OC kernel again.

Or, you can just replace the boot.img from the PA zip with the one from OC kenel zip file (i.e. extract all the files on your PC, replace the file, re-zip, and flash as per-norm).

Did you do a clean wipe before flashing other ROMs ?
Go to mounts and storage : Wipe data cache boot and system do a factory reset and wipe dalvik cache from advanced menu .. then flash the ROM.

I have used in CWM "wipe for instal ROM' & next wipe cache. ->then instaled the rom.
Is that properly?
Wipe cache, davlik, factory reset, than clean to instal rom,,
Than instal flash zip includ update supersu zip
After that, wipe cache and wipe davlik again
Reboot
