Hi guys.
So im working on an i727 that was flashed with a att gs2 kernel. I was hoping someone rootedcould hook me up with a stock kernel or something. I am unable to find a working kernel to reflash this device.
I used a kernel on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1325168 before. It allowed me to boot up the phone but the menu buttons didn't work.
damn, once again it's the button.. it's always the damn buttons.
We need the source of the kernel from the SkyRocket before we can start modding kernels
T-Mobile released the source for their TSGS2 about 9-10 days after the phone was launch. We'll see what happens from here on out... but we need the source code
This is a great example of why this phone needs its own forum. It is different from the i777 in so many ways. The only thing from the i777 that will work on the i727 would probably be themes ... but that's about it. Kernals, ROMs, etc will not work.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
I found one. Use the T989 insecured kernel. Itll give you what seems like full functionality except the acceleromator is backwards.
Switched to this kernel here at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337311. Works fine now with the buttons.

A USB jig still works, I tested mine right after I got the phone.
I can get into download mode or the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue mode" with the phone--!--computer graphic. Did you use Odin?

I'm not the guy with the soft-brick, I just thought someone might want to know that the USB Jig still works. I've had that error though on another phone and could still flash it via Odin.
Lol of course. Yea, I used my jig too.
Hope these skyrocket threads can be moved to their correct destinations...

I also need this stock Kernel...
Anyone get the Jig to reset the flash counter? Like the noob that I am after rooting the phone, I wanted to try returning it to stock with the one posted in the thread, but something happened and my phone bricked. I was able to get it back up and did a restore, but now the phone shows current binary: custom and flash counter reads yes (2 counts) I know with the OGSGII you had to do something with the secondary bootloader if you had tried running Gingerbread 2.3.5 at some point and time. Just wondering if anyone has developed a workaround for this phone
Samsung S2 Bricked - Any software solution update?
Hi all,
I've read too many threads or blogs about this.
Tested Odin and Heimdall... but nothing seems to be working.
The only thing that gives me some hope it's the Zadig Utility that cames with Heimdall... that seems to be able to install a device driver properly, in spite that is a not a WCDI (Windows compatible ID)
My Samsung Galaxy S2 i727 is bricked (No download mode, no logo, nothing... it's like a brick)
So my question is: What is the magical solution for this?
Software?
Hardware?
Thank you guys. Xda rocks!
You can not fix it yourself. Mobile tech videos offers a jtag service. So u have to ship the device to them for it to be fixed

Hey guys,
So I have the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket with AT&T and I have it rooted etc. Today I tried flashing the MIUI rom, but was unsuccessful due to a message saying "Installation aborted". So I did as I read to do and wiped cache, Delvik or w/e, and then I reformatted the SDcard to redownload the ROM, however when I rebooted the next time it did not boot back up. Now I have the phone completely dead it would seem, I have tried the button combinations, etc to no avail.
What happened and is there anything I can do?
How can my phone be bricked if I never got to install a new ROM? I can't be without it for too long so any answers would be appreciated
Thanks,
Smernst

Sometimes download mode can work even if the screen isn't turning on. You should follow the instructions for download mode and see if Odin recognizes the phone.

Brick → When used in reference to consumer electronics, "brick" describes a device that cannot function in any capacity (such as a device with damaged firmware). This usage derives from the fact that some electronic devices (and their detachable power supplies) are vaguely brick-shaped, and so those which do not function are useful only as actual bricks. The term can also be used as a verb. For example, "I bricked my phone when I tried to modify its firmware.
Hard Brick → When your phone does not turn on at all. When you can’t get in to CWR/CWM Or Stock recovery. You are basically screwed. If its hard brick Here is thread that will help you!!!
Soft Brick → When your phone bootloops. When you can get into CWR/CWM. When You can use jigtag to get into download mode.

I just went in to the AT&T store and they are sending me a new phone tonight and it should be here tomorrow!
Now, does anyone have a guide to recommend for getting, say, MIUI onto the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket? I don't know enough about the versions, mp5, etc to do it alone, and a safe guide would really help me
Thanks

No att ppl are dumb and they can't even turn on the phone so they won't be able to say that it was rooted. When they ask you anything about rooting just pretend like you don't know what they are talking about.

I tried going back to gingerbread using Heimdall 1 click and it gives me a kernel error and failed. Now phone won't boot past the rogers logo. Any suggestions? No samsung screen. No green battery indicator when plugged in. Heimdall does detect the phone, and I've tried all USB ports and cords at my disposal. I use a mac so no access to odin. This is the first brick I haven't been able to get myself out of. Any help you would be appreciated

If you can get download mode, then flash a gingerbread stock rom, even if it means you will lose root still do it, then flash a new rom of your choice, if you can get into download mode then you haven't got a brick

Embarking on a fresh new ROM without educating oneself can be very frustrating....since your on a Mac..with in the one click you say it reading your phone...can you get to download mode?

I can get into download mode.heimdall detects my phone. I tried both qksters and adam outlers 1 click. neither would take. If I upgrade heimdall version (as it tells me its out of date) it wont get through the initial connection to the phone. if I use with out upgrade it continues to fail on kernel download.
This is my second brick (first one was when trying to root it on my mac) First brick was fixed through odin at my work. Unfortunately I don't want to wait till monday to have a functioning phone

Hummmm..ok
Let's step back here does out prompt you for drivers?
....you might have to make a stop at your office..
Try different USB ports, I used heimdall yesterday to go back to gingerbread (so I could get the boot loaders) and I had the same problem as you, I finally got it to work with a different USB port and even then it kept failing...but I just kept trying and eventually it went through
(Pull battery, place battery back in, hold volume up and down, plug USB in-should put you in download mode...even if you can't see anything on your screen you can still enter download mode)

Alright, here it is:
I encountered the same problems yesterday, heimdall doesn't work when flashing back to stock from ics, from what I've found, you must use gtg's ultimate unbrick, the pit repartitions everything and also resets your binary counter (cha-ching! ). Once completed, your phone will reboot and be stuck at "...installing default apk files..." for a few minutes, don't panic, let it run its course. From there on, you can do the usual root/flash cwm deal. .

Agreed. On my desktop (quad core 6 gb ram, watercooled blablablabl) can't run heimdal nor Odin to save its life.
My netbook (single core atom) took me back from CM9 with Odin like it was nothing.
My 7 year old laptop (running Ubuntu) works great using Heimdal (just run the .jar file as an executable)

I've flashed lots of roms and never had any issues. Also looked through the forum and know the basics about getting back to stock. I'm no expert, but I have a decent idea what I'm doing. I do appreciate a forum you can ask questions though and have people help out when your stumped. I did what i could from the tools I have at my disposal here, and ran into some problems. I'm not yelling SOS, just asking for some tips as what I have tried hasn't worked. All the same I do appreciate everyones opinions and help they provide. THat's what makes this forum great.
why would you need to heimdall if you are on a rogers infuse? Isn't that for AT&T phones only?

I don't have recovery.. otherwise I certainly would have
Hey well, to start things off I was trying to unlock my T-Mobile SGS4G to work with AT&T but it turns out it needs to be rooted first. I have rooted before and this is the first time I have ran into a problem.
What I did first:
I used Heimdall in an attempt to flash CWM Recovery so I can gain root access. For some reason the zImage was bad (?) and my phone could only get to the T-Mobile logo and then freeze.
Recovery and Download DID work
What I did second:
I used odin3 to flash back a stock T-Mobile rom in hope to fix things... and it did everything succesfully but now it's stuck in a real boot loop.
Can't get into Recovery, nor Download. It's really depressing to keep seeing that battery show over and over again.
Any ideas on how to get my computer to detect my phone again?
Thanks.
Edit:
I did every button combination + usb plug combination known to man. I uninstalled and installed the files again.
Did my phone brick because I ticked the partition tab on odin?
PLEASE help.
Our phone IS NOT the Vibrant. Hopefully someone can help you, but... I don't know. If you flashed OUR stock rom, with bootloaders... you're screwed. But, the fact you have images on your screen, should give you some hope.
Yea, I saw that, but the title says he has a vibrant. I don't know....
Head to the vibrant forum there are some un-brick tools over there...you need to get it in download mode use odin to flash stock froyo vibrant rom.. Should get it back up and running

One of the "download jigs" may help once you are certain which phone you have and what firmware and ROM you need to flash. You can make your own with a resistor and a microUSB plug, I bought one for $8.00, delivered, (I now see they have them on Amazon for $4, Super Saver eligible) and others have had good luck with even cheaper ones on eBay.
Also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9403915
Jigs are cheap and unless you got the right resistor lying around buy a ready made one. Also if the phone shows up in odin you can download something whatever picture shows up on the screen. Raver has a thread about using heimdall to fix the boot files but its about six months old. Worked for me once. It might even be indexed in the bible under development.

You can root this phone using Entropy's kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1289460
And you can flash it with Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1738841
I wouldn't though. You can't install a customer recovery on this device right now and nobody has figured it out yet (that I know of).

Are you sure my kernel is safe to use on this device???
There is little known about this device... Going by name alone is a VERY BAD IDEA on Galaxy S2 era devices. Flashing I9100/I777 stuff to any Qualcomm based device would guarantee a hardbrick, and I think going the other way would hardbrick you too.
Since it's 4.3" screen it might be an Exynos device, but no guarantees. Specs/features don't mention NFC at all, so it may be more similar to the I9100 than I777.

I've been using your kernel for over a month without any major issues. The phone boots fine, plays games. The only issue I've run across is that sometimes you have turn the wifi on and off, but I don't know if this is the device itself (you mention something about wifi deep sleep in your thread) or if it's just an issue with my router (I've experienced similar things in the past with other routers and devices, so I really don't know).
About the NFC. If you remove the battery cover and look at the factory sticker for this phone, it has the same FCC designation at the i777 and the battery says NFC everywhere. I think TracFone simply has it disabled in the firmware similar to how they've locked the device from Kies and tethering.
IndigoAK, just to make sure we are on the same page, you have the SGH-S959G model?

It sounds like this device might be identical to the I777, so you *might* be able to flash anything meant for I777.
Have you tried flashing any ICS firmwares? Do you have a dump of the stock /system firmware?

Yes. This is the model I have
@Entropy: I said that because I've not seen anyone that's been able to install custom recovery for this phone. Your kernel installs and it successfully roots the phone, and the wifi works unlike the zedomax kernel, but if you enter recovery it's just the stock recovery and if you try to install recovery through ROM manager or whatever, then you can't. I might not even be doing it right. I'm not exactly an expert on this and to be perfectly honest, I'm learning as I go here since this is my first Android device. Also, I don't have a dump of the stock firmware and nobody else does either as far as I'm aware. The source code for this device is available from Samsung's open source website, but that's apparently not the same thing.
When I say fine, I mean my phone doesn't blow up or hang or generally do anything un-phony. It boots, it makes calls, it plays games and installs apps, it mounts my sdcards, it connects to my computer through USB using Windows.
The only things is doing do are NFC, tethering and connect to Kies, which as far as I know you can't do even with the stock device, so I doubt that's your kernel.

OK that's REALLY strange, because recovery is contained within the main kernel on this generation of devices... Unless this model is a MASSIVE fluke and the recovery partition actually does something. (It doesn't on any other Exynos galaxys2-family device.)
NFC and tethering is likely to be an issue with the /system contacts...
Yeah, booting into recovery in your kernel gives the basic options. Reboot, reset. Nothing about flashing or backup. I haven't tried to flash the clockwork mod kernel from your thread since I've had such bad luck with kernels in general. Trying to install clockwork recovery from inside ROM Manager gives an error on reboot, but if you reboot again everything works fine, even the normal recovery

Yes. I've successfully used Odin 1.85 and Odin 3.07. Mobile Odin doesn't work (or I haven't figured out the right settings).
I'm surprised that there isn't a big hacking community for this device. I mean it's one of the best prepaid devices on the market with 45$/month fast HSPA+ service..
Hell, the Motorola Triumph was a junky PoS but had a very large dev team.. I would love for someone to get a root working on this phone, and it seems I am going to try to flash Entrophy's rom as WiFi works with him as you said..
C'mon guys, wheres all the dev teams at?

I used the latest version available in his thread. It's from March I believe. Also, Odin doesn't support zip files when flashing from a computer, tarballs only. I couldn't for the life of me manage to make a tarball in Windows that Odin would read though, so I had a friend package it for me.
Crap, I used the tar one and flashed it. With root checker it says I dont have root but busybox is installed. When it boots it shows the yellow triangle with ! but the phone boots and works okay.
Or can I get a copy of your tar?
Edit: Link to the tar of Entropy's kernel that works with this phone.

Not too sure how I can help but I if there's anything I can do to help you guys out with this phone I'm willing. I'm not very familiar with flashing and rooting and stuff, since I've never done it, but I'm a pretty quick learner so I'm sure with a little help I can. I just got a new Samsung SGH-S959G, I have turned it on and connected to my wifi but that's it, I haven't activated it or anything. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out, and how I would go about doing it.
Hey Roxanne, welcome! The best thing you can do to help us right now is leave your phone stock so we have someone who has the original files in case we screw something up. Right now there is no real benefit in hacking this phone but hopefully soon what the few of us are doing will lead to cool new stuff for this model.
Right now the best thread for this phone seems to be at the link below:

Rom Manger. Yea. Dat Apps A Killer!

Hey folks, I've been doing some reading on the topic this morning and found some good options but need a few more specifics and maybe some extra expert opinion. Something is awry with my USB port - It will charge but cannot get it to recognize the presence of the computer. It also goes through seasons where it rapidly toggles back and forth to/from dock mode.
Basic facts/stats:
SGS3 verizon, SCH-I535, running 4.0.4 I535VRLF2.
Rooted, Stock ROM, never unlocked bootloader.
Running CWM Recovery v5.5.0.4
I'm trying to restore to a point where I can do a warranty return for the hardware issue without being dinged for software mods.
So I think my options are these.. Feedback?
Mobile Odin... but don't want to unlock the bootloader, seems to be a step in the wrong direction.
ABD Wifi
Terminal emulator on the phone
Here's a thread that I found helpful...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27206637&postcount=5
So, finally, my questions that I haven't been able to find an answer to...
Anyone know where can I find the stock recovery image? Not hard to find an image for the whole system, but why flash the whole kit'n'kabodle when you only need the one part?
If I was going to go the ABD/terminal route, is this the correct command? dd if=location of image of=/dev/block/mmblk0p22. This is the location for the Galaxy S2, but not sure if it is correct for S3.
Thanks guys, definitely don't want to make a mistake here in this crippled situation.

Your on ICS. I would just use EZ-unlock 1.2 and unlock. Takes about about 30 seconds. If flash counter is tripped use free Triangle Away here on XDA to reset it. Another minute. Then use Mobile Odin to flash back full stock image. About 10 minutes. Done.

The same thing happened with my first S3, I used mobile odin and flashed back to stock and sent it into verizon for my replacement and this was a couple months ago. I would suggest that route.
Can't post outside links yet, but search for this on youtube..

Nice little video guide for mobile odin.
Have you tried a different USB cable? I've had the same problem and a new cable worked wonders.

Several, and the cables work with my old phone w/ no problems. Reinstalled the samsung drivers. I'm pretty sure that it's the USB due to the issue with rapid toggling in/out of dock mode. A quick squirt of compressed air fixes the dock mode issue but there are still periodic re-occurrences.
Downloading the stock firmware now. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks a ton for the advice.
Try the xperia x8 drivers. I can't get the Samsung ones to connect for anything. I haven't had an issue since ditching the Samsung ones.
I had the same problems, constant toggling. Just my opinion, it's a driver issue.
