[Q] Did something change with regards to ringtones and notification sounds? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I've got a few .mp3's that I used on my GS2 for ringtones and notification sounds. I can go into my contacts and assign unique ringtones from my Music library but I can't get the standard ringtone and notification sounds to change, these mp3 files don't show in their respective list.
I have them on my internal sd and even copied them to /sdcard/media/audio/notifications with no luck. What am I missing?

yes its that .ogg format that stops it from popping up in your list of tones......i still have not figured a way to convert to that yet. doesnt look hard though.
should just be a simple converter program and your done, i want to look into this as well so i will keep you posted if i find an easy way to do so....i already tried the obvious change the extention with no luck

I took mine and put them in the "system/media/audio/ringtones". Left the .mp3 and worked great. Hope this helps.

I just have my ringtones (in .mp3) in /sdcard/Ringtones and they show up for default ringtones.
I noticed it showed up after it "scanned for media" but I did this before I rooted and I froze whatever was scanning so that might be something to consider.

At first it didn't work but then I figured I might have to do a reboot and that did the trick. Weird that before I didn't have to move them into those directories but that's perfectly fine with me. Appreciate it.

That actually sounds right. I forgot to do that this time around but the above option worked fine as well. Good call...

SO now you can change the notification ringtone? Because i have Zedge app and have some tones that i hav set up through setting and put as notification ringtone but it still don't change it will whistle everywhere!
If putting the file in media works then i will be fine!

I've found that if you put your ringtones in a folder called "Ringtones" and your notification sounds in a folder called "Notifications" (in /sdcard or /sdcard/external_sd) the phone will allow you to use them for their appropriate purposes. No reboot should be needed either.
You can of course push them into /system/media... if you want though

Custom notification sounds for EVO?

Is there an app out there or instructions on how to add custom sounds for message notification? The reason I ask is I am a HUUUGGGEEE Monty Python fan (as is the Mrs.) and I had trimmed down a bunch of sound bites from various movies and used them as ring tones and notification sounds on previous phones. So, naturally, since I now own (a fully rooted, I might add EVO4G) I'd love to put them on it.
THANKS!
Make a folder for the ring-tones and one for the notifications. Put tones in those folders then place both folders on the sd card.

Thanks! I'll try that and post my results.
The only negative thing I found about this is if you're using your sdcard as storage then you lose all your custom sounds.
Maybe not that big a deal for some since its not like you always have it as usb storage but i found it annoying.
Since you're fully rooted I like to put my ringtones etc directly with the other system ringtones to avoid that problem all together.

froyostone with sense no ringtones?

I'm new and tried googling and all for this problem. I installed a custom rom (miri) and froyostone android and for some reason I can't select a ring tone or any other sound setting.
My phone calls work fine and all other sounds do to. What is the reason I can't select a ring tone?
I tried to download the media folder and still nothing.
go to the app store and search for free ringtone programs. install one and pick a ringtone and it should let you pick it then.

Didn't work.
If I go to sound settings, click on phone ringtone, there's nothing there. I can't select anything either.

Yea, I got the 1 ringtone I downloaded to show, just not the others. I will try the other option. I'll post back.
sorry, I don't play much with android. Looks too much like ios to me and didn't really have any advantages for what I use the phone for everyday.
That second option did it. I read you had to put the media folder in the root. I didn't know it meant the root of android folder. Thanks for the help. It's much appreciated.
its a folder titled media that you have to put in the android folder when you start it up.

Zedge ringtones not working?

As above, I can get sounds to work for ring tones and notifications, but after a couple hours, they stop working. Anyone else or any thoughts? Maybe g2x isn't supported by this app yet like tango?
Funny cause mine work. I downloaded Zedge last night (first time user) and downloaded a bunch of images and notification tones.
I set my background and notification tones up and they are working great. Maybe use a File explorer to find the actual downloaded files and move them to the proper folders so they appear in the stock settings selector. I think they go in SDCARD/ringtones.

Thanks, I'll try again. Did your set them as default tones in zedge or through settings-sound-etc?
Gotta set them through Zedge.
When I originally installed it, and went to Settings-Sound and clicked on the dropdown box, I had a popup to choose with program to use Zedge or Android. Out of habit I chose Remember Android, which the stock list won't display Zedge tunes.
So just set them through the actual Zedge app once you download them.
I nevr set mine thru zedge and all my ringtones and notifications work fine....
sent from my G2X with no regrets
Seems to be working fine for now. Maybe just a factory Rom gremlin or something. /shrug

Ringtone assignement

So here's my issue with my HTC One SV :
Ringtones assigned but default ringtones ringing, I have assigned my ringtones (call, sms, email, calendar),all works OK, except calls where the default ringtones(the one for general ringtones) ringing instead of the assigned ringtone?
Have other two phones(Samsung & Sony) and no problem at all with same settings. Had tis in the past, never had any issues... Now remember, had this with my HTC One...
Before questions asked, here's the settings :
On SD card root created folder media and subfolders audio>alarms>notifications>ringtones.
As mentioned before, all tones are ok, except call/phone ringtone.
changed memocard, but same story....
Any idea?
Mine are on root of sd card in folder
/system/media/audio/alarms
/system/media/audio/notifications
/system/media/audio/ringtones
All works fine.

But you know what is strange?! Everything is OK,except the bloody ringtone. Getting really pissed off with HTC. On my Samsung and Sony have no problem at all...

Ringtones work well for me, but I had a similar problem (don't know if this is the same reason) with special tones for my contacts using "Textra" (special SMS-app). I could solve this with a third-party app called "Rings extended".

I don't think I need an app for this. All my previous HTC's had the same settings and worked, only this SV is a trouble maker...
Did hard reset, but no joy... Giving up and downgrading it to back up phone position...

Try putting your ring tone in the /system/media/audio/ringtones folder then set the permissions to rw-r-r this is what i do with all my ringtones/notification tones. See if that works by making it a system ringtone. Also in settings then sounds then phone ringtone in the upper right hand corner theres an add button try adding your ringtone that way if the system one fails.

I am not rooted, so system/media ... access isn't possible. Switched back to Samsung couple days ago (nice black S3 GT-I9305), and have no issues at all with my personal ringtones & notifications.
I am going to sell that HTC as it failed me . If anyone interested let me know.

Custom sounds (notifications, ringtones....)

Hi folks,
I'm just setting up my P40 Pro to see how it will perform in every day life for me So far things are looking good, but on my path to customization I stumbled across the issue of custom sounds for notifications and ringtones.
In the past and with past android phones all sounds installed in the "Ringtones", "Notifications" and "Alarms" folders in internal storage would be used by the media manager and could be selected in the corresponding menus in settings.
With the P40P in settings I get a choice of preinstalled sounds plus the option for "Music on device" - apparently this really does only check in the "Music" folders on internal and external storage, but not in the other folders.
Any idea how to set ringtones and genereal notification sounds from sounds in storage ?
A big thanks in advance,
Axel

I had a "ringtone" (note, no "s" at the end) folder at /storage/emulated/0/Music/, this is where I put my ringtone files. If the folder is not there just create one...
