A while back I rooted and flashed Revolution HD 3.6.4 on my Sensation without any issues; noticed immediate improvements, and was really pleased with the performance and battery life. Only issue was the occasional boot loop which I remedied by flashing a Bricked kernel.
Fast forward to two nights ago…
My parents also have Sensations and were not very happy with them so I convinced them let me root them which I did.
I did to their phones exactly what I did to mine, including; s-off, perma root, CWM, nandroid backup, flash ARHD 3.6.4 w/ bricked kernel.
The weird part is both of them are now having identical issues with their phones; really slow, 4hr battery life and laggy.
However…
I was sure to wipe the battery stats by draining the battery to complete shutoff, recharging to 100% (basically overnight 8hr+ charge) and erase battery stats from within CWM
I did not do a Titanium backup because a)they really didn’t have much installed, app-wise and b)I thought a fresh install would be cleaner without trying to recover any settings
I made sure to run the Revolution HD Super wipe before flashing the Rom
Installed the HTC Bricked kernel
The only thing different about their phones than my phone is they never applied the official HTC OTA major update. I went into this thinking it would not matter since we’re installing a new rom anyway but perhaps I’m wrong???
Why would two freshly-rooted phones exhibit the same issues?
I’m planning on re-flashing their phones later this week with the newer ARHD 3.6.5 rom (which I just did to mine ) hoping this will clear up any issues they’re having but want to make sure I’m not doing something wrong first…
Let me ask a more direct question.
Can I flash the new Revolution HD 3.6.5 (including the bundled faux kernel) to a phone that has not had the HTC Sense OTA update? Or will issues arise?
I think the problem is radio wise. Install the recommended radio and see if it solve the problem

Hi,
The issue is most probably the kernel.
Try installing the latest.
You have two choices.
1.faux.(in my sig)
2.bricked.(HERE)
Seeing as you have two phones to play with, why not try one on each.

I flashed both their phones with the bricked kernel when I installed the rom originally.
If the problem isn't due to the older Sense version being installed what I plan on doing is flash both phones with ARHD 3.6.5 and leave the bundled kernel installed (have the 3.6.5 with new faux on my phone and so far so good).
I can try the radio flash also but I never had to flash the radio on my phone and all three phones are identical (bought them at the exact same time; family plan-thing).

Hi,
I have never updated via OTA,and I never will.(Do not trust what it will do to my phone)
There are known issues with the bundled kernels.
Both of the latest kernels have had good reviews.
Just saying.
The OTA could've updated your radio.

Check if you have recommended radio or not. If not, flash recommended radio. Then,
Try to download ARHD 3.6.5 (check MD5), download latest kenels of your choice.
- Super wipe
- Flash Room, and reboot (just set up phone, dont set google account and facebook yet).
- If you want do flash roomcleaner: reboot into recovery and flash roomcleaner.
- If not, just reboot in recovery, wipe cache and wipe davik cache, then flash kenel of your choice.
- Reboot, set up your google account, facebook account, email account, etc...
- If phone experiences a bit lag during turning page to page in homescreen. Just reboot again. After that you can do all battery calibration, flashing mods or themes.
It may be too careful but that just to make sure I dont mess up everything with flashing.
Hope this help!

Hi,
ROM cleaner is flashed immediately after flashing the ROM, without any reboot.
Thanks for all the advice. I just got a call from my mom today saying her phone dies real fast and every time she takes a photo the screen goes black resulting in a battery-pull.
I gotta fix their ****z pronto.
I hyped the whole rooting thing up pretty good after flashing my phone, so far their experiences are pretty bad.
@ stevendph, I'll do exactly as you outlined. Thanks for the step by step.
fwiw the radio is whatever was on the phone from the time of purchase. Ill flash it as well with the 'recommend' radio.
So the consensus is to go back to the Bricked kernel and overwrite the new "updated" Faux kernel bundled in the ROM???

Yep, it's can be flashed immediately or after 1st reboot, the result will be the same as roomcleaner's function is to delete system apps, files, skin and wallpaper (which are useless or you dont use). Those also can do it manually but yes painfull .
As i stated before, it's just i am doing carefully to watch if is there anything wrong with room flashing, then continue flash other things. What i did was flash, check, flash, check... until having what neccessary -->nandroid backup, flash, check, etc . Just me to be careful
@Okors: related to kenels, just make sure you notice this.
- Faux latest kenels 0.24r1 is really good and stable (if you have 0.24 beta 7, you dont need to update, as they are same).
- Bricked kenels: v1.5 final has the problem with camera, playback video (sometimes for some devices) as blackscreen, freezing. Version 1.4r1 is really good and stable (without Zram enable). Version 1.5 beta #490 with zram, working great for me anytime including camera, playback, etc... but there are reports from someone that they have lags (i dont)...
That's all what i know when testing and reading reports about these kenels, you have the right to choose what is suite for you.
I would just flash Pyramid 3D and 0.91 Bricked, check if GPS and camera work, then call it a day. If GPS doesn't work you could always try my fix or crypted's, boh are flashable.
Pyramid 3D has been the most stable and the fastest out of all the ROMs that I've tried without having to extensively customize for myself. Honestly though, I would just flash your parents stock again. Doesn't sound like they are power users.

To be honest, I'm mostly after the improved battery life for them. You're right, they're not power users; in fact the phones are way to "smart" for them. Their biggest complaint is battery life (as was mine before I rooted).
At this point I just want to get their phones back to a stable state. It's frustrating because I NEVER had any of these issues when I flashed my phone.
Even the kernels, radios, etc didn't make 'much' of a difference. I was blessed with a really, really stable flash right out of the gate
I even updated to the latest ARHD and bundled faux kernel and my phone is rock solid.
Both of my parents are coming over tonight for dinner. I'm planning on reflashing them to ARHD 3.6.5. using the steps outlined earlier. Hopefully all goes well or it's restore-to-stock time.

Hi,
May I suggest using the 3.6.x series with the 0.9.1 bricked kernel, found HERE
I put it on my son's Sensation, and he loves the stability and battery life.
He's not a power user.
He just wants a smartphone that works.
Just a thought.
You could also try the stock rom xe by eddyos. Everything works fine and battery last for 14 to 24 hrs in medium to light usage.

Hi sensation forum...
I am new to sensation, but not new to android or HTC, as i have 4 different phones with custom firmware on them...
But the sensation give me a lot of problems for some reason...
I have tried ARHD 5.0.2 and Insert Coin 4.0.4, i have also tried Virtuous Inquisition v1.3.0 and HyperSensation CM7.1 v1.2.
The last one is not even ICS based...
All of them give me random reboot cycles...
I have tried 3 different radios also...
Nothing have helped me so far...
I still have a lot of random reboots...
(about every 2-10 min)
When i flash the firmware i use ARHD´s super delete script, but to be shure, i also format everything from within Recovery...
What more can i do here ??
Pleace,if your phone is stable, can you tell me exactly what rom/radio/kernal/ril you use...
My phone was rock stable with factory firmware....
Hey,
When installing roms on the sensation, make sure you follow the guides in the particular thread. It is also important to match recommended radios and rils that go with the specific rom. Make sure you are S-off and cid 11111111. When you are switching roms, you should only have to run the superwipe script, it will set all the partitions for you so that you can flash the rom you choose. Also, before you install ICS, it is recommended that you superwipe BEFORE installing the actual rom to prevent unwanted isssues. Before you do anything else, give me a rundown on what you are currently running.

I have exactly this issue.
I installed ICS Revolution. I had successfully got S-OFF, Installed ClockWork Recovery (updated to latest version), permanently Rooted & obtained SuperCID. I updated radio as recommnded by mike1986 in the ICS post, and wiped the phone with Revolution Super_wipe_Sensation first.
It seemed to run fine apart from Doplhin HD which refused to run properly (so switched to Opera Mobile). However I started to get random reboots.
After a bit I thought to try Insert Coin ICS instead.
I have noticed no real difference in performance and have the identical issue with Dophin HD (back to Opera mobile again).
However I also still have the identical random rebooting issue with this ROM. What else can I do?

I did that with Revolution as well as with Insert Coin this time around. Running the latest version
I'm having the same issue. Did a text book install of AHRD. Everything went super smoothly, but getting these reboots. I have tried to swipe everything, have the latest radio and recommended fw and keep getting these crashes. Not only it's driving me nuts but it makes the phone unuseable... I can't believe we're just 2 to have these problems... Isn't there some king of log we can pull to see what's causing the crash ?

I suspect it has to do with processor speed that's been tweaked in these roms, but can't seem to find a way to tune it back to stock on the ICS rom...
sorry for the late reply, been busy with holiday stuff.. anyhow, make sure you are NOT installing any mods that are not compatible with the current ICS build. I have had no problems switching between ARHD 3.6.10 and ICS 5.0.2. As long as you have s-off and CID 1111111, you should be good to go. When I changed up from 3.6.10 to ICS 5.0.2, I turned off my phone, went into bootloader, selected the option for recovery, then flashed the superwipe script. After it finished flashing that, it rebooted back into recovery. Following that, I went to install from zip, flashed the updated RUU, cleared cache and dalvik, then flashed ICS 5.0.1 and the 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 update. Everything installed smooth from there.

That's exactly what I did. Can't find anything different between your story and what's I did, up to when I switched to Insert Coin
I also don't think it's related to CPU speed. My phone is the XE model which ran at 1.5 Ghz on stock ROM and only did about 3 random reboots in 3 months; (now it's every couple of hours).

I'm still getting the reboot on the nand backup (OrangeFR), this sucks big time. Now I'm thinking it may be due to the fw I had to install to use AHRD (PG58IMG) and the new radio. This is where I'm lost. How can I return everything to standard ? If I understand well the ROM doesn't contain those files, they are separate ?
Was thinking that my random reboots were radio or firmware related.
Strange thing is mine have stopped, and all I did was reinstall revolution ICS 5.0.1 then upgrade to 5.0.2. Didn't even wipe first. So even my apps & settings all of which I had installed & configured since I had installed Insert Coin ICS, are all still there. Haven't had a reboot since.

I switched back to ARHD 3.6.9, did a factory reset+wipe, flashed radio 10.59 and all is fine, I'm somehow reluctant to try again...
I found a solution that worked for me... At last...
I am REALLY sorry that i didn´t answer here before, but i have been really bussy, and actually forgot all about it a few days....
NOW, i also thought that i had some CPU spped issue with the roms, becource i can actually get the same kind of reboot problems on my DHD when i run it over 1500 Mhz...
So i thought that i would lock my sensation to max 900 mhz, and then see what happens... NO change... Still random reboot... Strange...
I then installed a Android 2.3 rom, just to get my phone running again... STILL random reboots...
hmmm....
Now i was confused...
At last i tried to flash a different radio one more time...
I found a radio in some other sensation thread... Flashed it and now my phone works stable...
At least with Virtuos Inquisition 1.3.0... (Proberbly the 1.4.0 will also work, but i have not tried it yet...)
The Radio i had the problems with is the one from mike´s thread...
I actually don´t know why, as i have allways had great success with his roms and his releases on my DHD...
The Radio i use now is 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035-02_2...
But sorry, i can´t remember from what thread...
Ok, this is what i have discovered on this reboot issue...
I hope it make some sense, and that this perhaps can help other with the same problems...
Try turning your phone to recovery.Backup if you havent already....Wipe Data/Factory reset then turn the phone off....
Remove the back cover and the SDCARD.Turn the phone back on and see if it runs ok without the SDCARD, if it does reformat the sd using 4ext recovery and it will also align it.
I spoke too soon.
My phone didn't reboot for a day after I switched back to Revolution ICS 5.0.2 for about a day, then today it began doing random reboots every few minutes. I had not changed any software, just the area (which might have changed signal and frequency the cell tower uses). So I figured it was time to change firmware and radio.
I had previously (prior to installing custom ICS ROM) flashed the radio to 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 as recommended by Mike1986 in the Revolution HD ICS thread, and had HBoot 1.7.1111 on my device.
I then downloaded the firmware he posted on his thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
This has put the phone back to HBOOT 1.20.0000 and radio 11.15.3504.16_M
Now it's working well and no reboots yet.
Here's hoping.. time will tell.
No matter what radio or Rom combo I get random ass reboots
Super annoying. I did notice the battery goes from 100% to 10% during this reboot
I have calibrated battey. Wiped stats. I'm lost.
I have even tried a new battery. Wtf. Any ideas?
i cant even flash stock ruu I get a 171 error!!!!
Im gonna throw this phone at the f-ing wall in a min
if you flashed newest radio 11...x.x..., you have to have newest hboot also (1.20.. , i guess). otherwise, you will get random reboot. I had this issue before, and i just flashed order radio( i don't want to update hboot version). problem is solved

Hi guys, please tell me what the heck I am doing wrong with ICS ROMs because I just feel powerless.
Tried some time ago OnceICS ROM (on 3.12 firmware), then switched to Virtuous Inquisition, then Virtuous Quattro (3.24 firmware) and now I'm on newest OnceICS on 3.24 unlocked firmware.
Every ROM change was dictated by the fact that my ROM kept turning off very randomly - on data transfer (I guess), after sending/receiving SMS, before/after phonecall - no rule, once it worked, another time I had like 10 turn offs per hour. Can't even do a logcat because it mostly happens when I'm out of home, where the signal can or is lower than at home (where I have full and barely no turn offs).
Every ROM change I hope this one gonna work but the problem still remains.
Sitting on supercid, did wipes, superwipes, fix permissions, battery wipe, no OC kernels, changed recovery to 4ext touch..
I flashed OnceICS yesterday I thought it is finally fine. But today it started rebooting like every before. probably today I will flash just once a sense rom like insertcoin, but I have no hope.
What is wrong with my phone? :\
insert-coin is not a de-sensed ROM
Did you by any chance restore data from a backup after flashing the ROM because this can often cause this sort of bugs
Whoops I meant "sense rom like insertcoin" because I tried roms with sense stripped out.
I do not restore data, I do titanium backup, sometimes use it to restore some apps but none of system stuff (contacts are synced by google, sms are restored by Go SMS Pro, everything else I configure on every reinstall). Like right now, I have plain OnceICS with only few apps installed from market but I had turn offs before I installed them too so I don't think they are the problem here :\
Maybe you should install a factory ROM first, to look if it solves your problem..?

Agreed, try a Gingerbread ROM then you can figure out whether it's an ICS problem alone or possibly hardware related.
Yeah I will probably install gingerbread :/ But, damn, ICS is awesome, I like it very much, especially the way it behaves and looks. It's sad I need to go back to gingerbread
Don't give up, if Gingerbread runs well, just try again (maybe another) ICS ROM.

It's a bummer but if it's a hardware fault best to find it and get it sorted IMO.
It was fine before I switched to ICS. But ok, tomorrow morining, gingerbread strike back. What's the best 2.3 ROM right now? Because there is quite a mess in "android development" forums because of ICS.

I know you said you did all these things but it wont hurt at this point to double check yourself and make sure everything is done correctly. I have had my sensation since June and have been rooted since july so I thought I knew everything there was to know about this phone. turns out I didnt lol and I still dont know what I missed but after I follwed this guide step by step I was able to load ARHD 6.1 without any issues. I have been auto off free for 3 days and counting.
and if that dosent work you can still go back to GB and ARHD has a nice rom for that as well. Good Luck

I'm on 3.12 F/W and happily run Virtuous Inquisition (or Quattro) and CM7 on the phone.
All the ICS based ROMs are a bit un-stable as they're based on un-released binaries from HTC. As you might tell from the ROMs I listed I'm more into AOSP based ones than Sense ones.
The battery life I have now is better than ever, TBH not certain if that's ICS, Radio or F/W.

For AOSP ROM , I suggest Virtuous Inquisition till CM official released for sensation...
Thanks for answers, I gave up for now, switched to 1.17 fw and cm7. I miss ICS
So far it works fine but not as smooth as ICS. But the most I miss rotation animation
Jesus, what is going on :\ I'm on CM7 right now and it can turn off as well :\ Tomorrow I will install stock rom... Before I started playing with ICS everything was fine, no turn offs :\
If I were in your shoes I would reflash the RUU for your device and rule out a hardware failure. Not to mention if anything is left over from all of your flashes it can lead to problems. Just start over, don't ask for help and then be stubborn about the suggested solutions.
OK I will do so
I was about to post a thread but google pointed me here. I have the EXACT same problem as you do Cliff. I highly doubt it is caused by hardware, and as Tez recommended I followed that guide verbatim. Still having problems. It's so frustrating because I LOVE ICS.
Right now I'm on stock ROM, dedicated to my phone (rubbish Orange PL branding etc.), rooted it just to restore some games.
and it still can turn off from time to time :\ I've had no such issue before trying ICS. Dunno what else I can do.
For me, it's starting to seem more and more like the battery stats are way off. But no matter how many times I wipe them and try to re-calibrate, it still gets way off within a day or two.
Cliff, did your percentages jump around each time you turned your phone back on?
I have these problems too !! I'm going to s off and send to HTC

Hello everyone,
I love to try different roms like everyday,
recently I tried Sense 4 Rom InsertCoin,
I don't know if it is ROM or i'm not doing it correctly,
but here's what I did.....
- From arhd 6.6.5 rom, Wiped/Format everything except sdcard
- Flash new firmware, tried two different, one link from arhd thread & other from Firmware's page, TMO-3.32 latest one...
- Flash the ROM........
Now, sometimes, it just turn on in like 15 seconds maximum "brightness lowers & quitely brilliant comes up", sometimes it takes more than 15 minutes & do nothing.
if I accidently get it working, I avoid to reboot, but if I have to, it get itself stuck on HTC screen & I have to reinstall the ROM to make it work again with 4-5 minutes boot time.......
which makes my phone's base hot like real HOT
So any help will be highly appreciated.....
as I am getting more than awesome battery life on this InsertCoin ROM compared to arhd.........
Thanks a lot........
EDIT:
I used official ROM & re-rooted & did all stuff again.....
now used firmware attached with arhd & it's working great......
I don't know what was problem but it's working good now

You shouldn't have flashed the firmware. Both ROMs (mainly all ICS ROMs) use the same 3.32 firmware. So if the firmware you used on ARHD worked fine, it should work on all other ICS ROMs. probably something went wrong while reflashing firmware...
Glad you worked it out in the end.

I had the same issue, are you flashing ARHD with EXT4 recovery?
If so, make sure to enable smart flashing from the tools menu.
That solve my problem.

afaik, Smart Flashing is only for devices with S-On......
While I got S-Off on my device.......
Thanks for your concern though.......
Hello, all.
I have a T-Mobile Blaze 4G with rooted stock ROM (Gingerbread), flashed radio version T989UVMC6, manually debloated and dewizzed. I'm running Halo launcher and Busybox Free version 9.6.
Since almost the first day I've had this phone, it would occasionally force close the phone process, usually when hanging up the phone with the Bluetooth radio on and paired with an earpiece. It happened bone stock, rooted, after I changed the modem, whenever. It seemed to happen less often after I changed the modem. The process always starts back up, but the Bluetooth device connection and system sound controls are wonky (unusable) until the phone is rebooted.
The only thing that seems to stop it is running Zepplinrox's V6 Supercharger script. That, however, occasionally freezes the entire system when trying to open certain apps, requiring a reboot. I've run earch after search on this subject, and nobody else seems to have this problem. The only thing I haven't tried is wiping the whole thing and flashing a custom ICS or JB ROM. I tried Dark Knight ver. 8 and hated it pretty much instantly.
I have two questions. Number one; Will flashing a custom ROM fix this situation? I figure that this must be a problem with the crappy stock Samsung ROM. Number two; Which ROM is fully functional and stable? I'd really like to keep this phone dependable. I don't care about the latest and greatest funky cool features that are hit-or-miss at best. I just need dependable, fast and functional.
Since you have been having issues for a while, I would suggest starting fresh. With a few runs of black hole wipe from cwm. Add a run of the gremlin remover for extra cleanliness. Then a flash of the latest ICS rooted stock rom and kernel, for reliability.

I'll definitely go for the rooted version! Does it matter what order in which the ROM and the kernel are flashed? Also, I take it from the name of the download link that I'll have to go through the process of de-bloating this thing again. S'okay, I actually enjoy that part, but I don't want to screw it up since I've not messed with anything newer than GB. Is there a good guide somewhere on the forum for apps that can be dumped safely? I know there was one for GB stock root.
Thanks for the response.

Flash the ROM then the kernel, rewipe cache and davlik, then profit.

A few more silly questions; Do I need GAPPS or is that just for CM? Aren't the CM 10 ICS nightlies fairly stable and relatively bug-free? I use CM7 on my Nook color and it's...okay... Just a few little annoying things pop up with that. To be honest, I like the idea of starting with a clean slate and adding stuff I like rather than pulling stuff out of the Samsung stock ROM, but the issues I've had with the Nook and CM7 have sort of scared me off. Your opinions?

All the AOSP ROMs for the Blaze needs GAPPs. And yes. The latest CM10 nightly is stable. And you said CM10 ICS? CM9 is ICS and CM10 is Jellybean.

The stock roms don't require gapps, but like Wolf said the cm10 jb variants do.
If your willing to use cm10 it is very stable. Just use the latest CM10 nightly and not the old stable version.

Of course. I get a bit confused ever since people started talking about 10.1.
Okay, I went ahead and installed the stock rooted ROM with the stock kernel. Went through the debloating process (mostly, there are some apps that I'm not sure I can do without so they stay for now), and did some customizing. I'm seeing a bit more battery drain. Is this an issue with ICS or do I need to try another kernel or supercharge the phone? I also have this crazy issue with ROM Manager ver. 5.5.3.0. It tells me that there is an updated version of Clockworkmod Recovery, but it freezes when I try to flash from ROM Manager. Also, ROM Manager freezes when I try to reboot into Clockworkmod Recovery. Maybe I need to test a bit more before I mess with it any more.
**EDIT** Well, it looks as if my CWM recovery installation is corrupted. Can I reflash it without messing up my current ROM?

Yes, with Odin, in the Dev forum
BTW, stay away from ROM Manager with our device. I've softbricked so many times because of it, it's ridiculous

Since you have it setup, except for battery life. I would make a backup, then try a mod one at a time and see if any help. Also check the battery stats to see if anything of is seen. ICS will use more juice than GB, generally.
I would suggest Nos/direct injection, supercharger, or cross breeder. I would use one and see, then restore and try another.

Some time later...
I've been using the stock rooted ICS ROM since my last post, debloated and dewizzed of course, with Holo Launcher and T989UVMC6 baseband version flashed. Just over a month has passed, and I have good news!
I FREAKING LOVE THIS PHONE!!!
All of the force close and freezing issues have vanished, the phone's battery lasts almost as long as it did on GB, it's WAY more user friendly, and the phone is as fast as it ever was.
The bad news is that my wife got a GS4 and I lust after it now. : /
Thanks to everyone for their help!
