New nook announced. Best tablet on the market? - General Questions and Answers

, Barnes & Noble has taken the wraps off of its latest Nook today — the so-called Nook Tablet, designed to replace the Nook Color with refreshed specs across the board including an "HD viewing experience." On the hardware side, the Tablet gets a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM in a package that weighs under a pound. The display — sources from LG — is an IPS unit (like the iPhone and iPad, among others) that offers a near 180-degree viewing angle, and it can play back up to nine hours of 1080p video on a single charge.
Speaking of video, the Tablet has Netflix and Hulu Plus pre-loaded, and the company is promising the deepest level of Netflix integration available on a device thanks to a customized app. Video takes a lot of space, of course, so Barnes & Noble put 16GB of storage inside the device with up to 32GB of expansion via SD. Content is also stored on the company's just-announced Nook Cloud service, Barnes & Noble's foray into the cloud storage game made popular by Amazon and others.

Another Tegra2 Tablet in US

Hi all,
Another Tegra2 tablet, eLocity A7, is finally available in-store:
http://www.centredaily.com/2010/12/15/2404279/elocity-a7-mobile-tablet-launching.html
I'll check it out at Fry's & Micro center.
Seems better option than the Archos 70, but considering about same price of Gtablet, the G appears the better option over the Elocity A7.
Not to mention uncharted mod territiry. Gtablet is proven in that regard

Totally agree. 6 months back I was looking at this tab or Galaxy Tab but got GTab with Zpad/TnT-Lite and there's no looking back ... . BTW, haven't touched my Dell XT 12" laptop since.
I wonder if everything works, or same problems as the other Tegra devices so far.
Seems big price differences:
Amazon = $380
Tiger = $350
BJs = $300
Hmmm.. Which would I pick.....
Agreed on the lappy use. My M11X has been used twice since having the G.
Well looks like elocity took their time, flash works. But angry birds wont install. I got this info from the amazon review from a guy that just got it. My only question is how is the screen? I myself have the gtab and really like it. Once I get my desktop gtab holders, I will be even happier. I was interested in the a7 a few months back and consider it a real contender since they have a built in hdmi port. I know I could have used that port his past weekend while stuck in chicago. After getting the gtab and putting on tnt lite, no going back.
Btw - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6foXW1zizM
Shows a hands on review of the Elocity A7 - same screen viewing angles?
only 4gb internal
I'd get it over the gtab if it had a higher Res screen. 800x480 isn't enough.
Looks pretty cool! The screen resolution is a little low, as is the internal memory. But you gotta envy the HDMI port. Our device might be able to do hdmi with a special cable someday soon, but who knows. Also, at a pound, it is not exactly a lightweight. I'm not sure how I would feel about a 7 inch after having the g tablet. There are times I wish our screen was a little bigger...like at the end of the day and my eyes are tired and I am trying to read this forum!
Same display issues as the g, but lower screen res. The advantage with the display is more native for current apps so almost all would work.
Catch is that based on reports, the Nvidia updates we have are not on the device, since Angry Birds apparently does not work. No market bridge yet either.
The issues we have with ports (bluetooth, mounting) and the accelerometer are apparently not an issue. Also, microsd mapping issues are not a factor, since apparently, the entire 4gb is for device app space (no internal sd space), so like the Advent, you need a micro sd.
If just 4gb, smart move mapping this way, since 3.6gb device space is about right. Not too much and not too little.
So far this is what I've gathered:
- viewing angle issue
- No true multitouch (only 1 +1 pinch as stated in eLocity website)
- Quandrant score: ~1800 (stock)
More info about this eLocity A7 posted here:

My understanding is the screen is lower rez but seems the viewing angles are definitely better

[Q] POLL: Which Honeycomb tablet do you plan to buy? (Chicken and egg)

I'm doing my research to figure out which tablet to purchase when the wave of CES2011 tablets hit the market.
Like most here on XDA, I won't want to run the stock image from the manufacturer for obvious reasons. But in order to get a custom rom, there needs to be critical mass here on XDA for its development.
So I'd like to figure out - what tablet do you plan to purchase when they're released? That will help me narrow down my choices to those that will have interest from the Chef community.
I don't know yet -- I want to get something smallish and inexpensive that the kids can use for messing around -- perhaps a Nook color rooted and rom'd
Hmm -- I wonder if the Nook cooks have a honeycomb ROM in the works...
EDIT: OMG they do
What about the Nook Color?

Another vote for Nook Color
I'm running the Nook Color with Honeycomb v04 flash zip you can find in the Nook Color section. It runs pretty good now, can't wait to see what happens when the full source code is out.
The size is great, screen is awesome and the devs are doing some amazing things already with them. Plus at $250 can't beat the price.
I am planning on buying a Nook Color to use as a Honeycomb tablet. (Especially when the AOSP Honeycomb source is released for the Nook Color developers to get a hold of.)
I would jump on a nook color, but the 7" screen is just a little too small for me.
I've narrowed my search to 10" screens @ 1280X800 (or equivalent).
My ideal specs:
Processor: Dual Core ARM (Tegra 2 or equiv)
Screen: 10" @ 1280X800 (hopefully could be read outside)
Battery Life: 8-10hrs
Wifi: B/G/N
3G: Not necessary, would leech off my phone's wifi router
OS: No overlay interface, just plain old honeycomb from the chefs here at XDA
Camera: Front & Back (although I only care about front for video conferencing)
System Memory: At least 1 gig, 2 would be preferable
Storage: 8gb+ onboard; SD card to augment
Power source: Stanard Mini or Micro USB; No proprietary charger
GPS: Don't care
Color: Any color as long as comes in black
Accessories:
- Docking / charging station that allows viewing at either Horizontal or Vertical
- iPad like case that allows a variety of viewing positions & props up for typing
Yea, Nook Color is excellent, but is a little small for me as well.
I'm also looking for a 10.2" tablet. There are so many out there now, epad for example. They are cheap as well, but most have 2.1. I'd live to get one with 2.2 for cheap.

Lenovo LePad
Interesting - Lenovo plans to announce their 1200x800 tablet at $399 and $449 and seems to be one of the less expensive tablets with leading specs (not sure if will have Qualcomm or Tegra processor).
I'm guessing TigerDirect, Amazon, NewEgg and others will carry their stuff, even if you don't see it in Best Buy or other stores.
Will the price be attractive enough to snag this vs. the competition?
I'm looking at the huawei s7 slim. 7" 800x400 1.2ghz snapdragon. Android 2.2 3g capable. Around the $300 price range
The pro version seems promising as well. Although for a heftier price tag.

[Resolved] Tablet Seeker

I am looking to buy a tablet preferrably android. I've been comparing android tabs and ipads from what i gather apple isn't the greatest in the tablet world. That's fine by me considering the prices, I'm basically looking for a general consensus. Which tablet in your opinion would you consider to be the "best android tablet"?
Big touch screen, great video quality and viewability, netflix, SD Card Reader, forward and rear facing cameras, USB 2.0 & Bluetooth are must haves.
I'm quite fond of the specs for the:
Asus Transformer Tablet 32 gig mem.
&
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with 16 gig mem.
Also what reliable facial recognition apps for unlocking the tablet are there?
Not resolved my apologies i believe i posted in the wrong section.
Hell i think i found a similar one at only half the price

Panasonic to launch its first smartphone in India on May 16: Reports

Despite estimating that moving away from consumer electronics will increase the company’s profit by more than 300 percent, Panasonic, it would seem, is still setting its sights on success in that segment. The company, which is not a serious player in the smartphone market, is about to launch an Android-powered 5-inch phablet in India on May 16. Invitations for the event have already reached media outlets. This will be the company’s first foray into the Indian smartphone market.
Panasonic is already running ads related to the smartphone in commercial breaks of the ongoing Indian Premier League cricket tournament. According to the ad (see video below), the latest Panasonic smartphone will be called P51 and in addition to the 5-inch IPS HD display, it will have top-of-the-line specs such as a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and an 8-megapixel rear camera. The ad also shows the actor using a stylus on the phone to mark out a portion of the text. So it looks like even Panasonic is going to target artists and the creative kind with the P51.
We don’t know any other details of the phone as of now, but considering that these specs match up to the Micromax Canvas HD, Panasonic will have to price it very shrewdly to have a chance in the over-crowded segment. If we are to go by the brief look we get at the device in the ad, we can tell the smartphone will have a plastic build, but if the other Panasonic Android smartphone, the Eluga, is anything to go by, then the fit and finish of the materials should be top quality.

Looking for a 7.9" 4:3 aspect ratio tablet

Hi all,
I have an Android tablet at the moment (Asus Memopad HD 7) and it has been a great little tablet however I'm on the lookout for a new, slightly bigger tablet. The reason being, I read a lot of medical books on it and the aspect ratio is not the most ideal. It gets the job done, but once I saw the 4:3 tablets by chance on Google Images, it was love at first sight.
I'm a fan of the Chinese tablets (Aoson, Hisense, Teclast, Chuwi, Pipo, etc) and am seriously considering importing one as I've bought a Chinese mini-PC (Vensmile IPC002) before and it's a pure joy to use (transformed my entertainment center).
Anyways, I digress. Here are the specs I would like (but will consider others, I know there's no such thing as a "perfect match"):
7.9" screen 4:3 aspect ratio (iPad mini style, etc)
2GB / 4 GB RAM
32GB RAM ( or more but no less) including a microSD card slot
Windows 10 (or 8.1) dual boot with Android (but a single Windows OS is fine too)
Cherry trail processor (again, will settle for Bay Trail but as a last resort)
GPS (highly preferred)
3G (not a must, but welcome)
Everything else is a bonus and not a deal-breaker.
The iPad Mini is absolutely wonderful but I cannot stand iOS. I'm well aware of the Samsung Tab S2 however not only is the price more than what I'm willing to spend, Android-only for that price is not a decent deal in my opinion, especially with the much cheaper dual-OS similar-spec (some even better) tablets out there.
I welcome all suggestions and/or recommendations.
Thank you in advance for any replies.
Edit: I meant to post this in the Q & A section! Can a mod please move it! Truly sorry!
