Hi peeps,
Never even seen a Samsung omnia 7, but tonight I was asked how you would sync MS Outlook contacts and calender from windows 7 pc to the Samsung omnia 7
I couldn't answer at the time because my last windows phone was a HTC HD2 running 6.5 and syncing that with XP seemed to be a bit backward compared with my old HTC Blueangel and ActiveSync.
Can you please point me / her in the correct direction. She has a pop email account, not hotmail and apparently is finding it a little difficult to find instructions for anything other than an MS Exchange setup.
I did a search and saw a few references to wireless sync, what's the way forward please?
If this MS outlook hotmail connector "Work around" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqJL9X0oqIk is the only work around then MS are truly nuts, what an own-goal. iPhone & Android have better sync capabilities with MS Outlook
you have to setup the phone to synchronize with Windows Live Website and then add in outlook (2007>2010) the hotmail account as mail account.
It will download the "hotmail connector" to download all data from windows live.
you can also use windows live mail 2011 instead of outlook (free and easy to use)
MSFT have stated pretty clearly that the future is in the cloud. Actually Windows Live mail is an excellent implemenation of cloud & local e-mail integration.. If you want to use google mail or something else, then fine, (and WP7 is fine with that too) .. but I don't know why MSFT have to support possible e-mail configurations - for free. If you don't want to play it their way try nuevasync, pipe everything via their service & connect as an exchange server.
Hi genius people of XDA world!
I use to sync my WM6.5 with Outlook 2007 through Active Sync and XP.
One day after a sync session, HTC Calendar stopped showing birthdays stored in HTC Contacts, and also Outlook 2007 Calendar has no track of them, but Contacts app still have retained all birthday informations.
How can i re-sync (Outlook and/or HTC) Calendar forcing it to track my Contacts birthdays?
I've googled and only found this link http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/commandlineswitches.htm and triedthe /cleanreminders option but did nothing...
Thank for help
Syncing the HTC 7 Pro's contacts (and I suppose in other WP7 phones) with Outlook is a giant step backward from Windows Mobile 6.5 as I had on my HTC HD2. WP 7 phones (at least the HTC 7 Pro, I haven't tried any other WP7 phone) no longer includes full, direct Contacts sync with Outlook (2010 in my case), but only:
-Sync with a Microsoft Exchange server
-Sync with Microsoft 365 (cloud-based).
Those who have neither are stuck with using a Hotmail/Live ID account, install the connector on Outlook, copy contacts to the new folder that is created and then sync this new account. But there are two major problems:
-The new folder will not accept contacts that have no email address (I have 60 of those out of around 2000 contacts). The only solution is to carry a second phone like my HD2, or more realistically assign a dummy email address to these contacts. The problem is compounded by the fact that when you perform bulk transfer of your contacts Outlook does not identify which are email addressless and rejects the whole transfer.
-The "notes" field in the Hotmail account is shorter than that in Outlook 2010: beyond 1024 characters the rest of your note is truncated. This was not the case with Outlook sync in my HD2 which had the same "note" field size as Outlook.
Did I get anything wrong? Please advise. Note that I haven't yet got the 7.5 update to the ROM: I am using 7.1.
As far as I'm aware, those issues are still present in WP7.5.
You might have better luck using a GMail account for your contacts, I'm using one and it didn't have any issues with my email-less contacts, though I agree it's silly there's no direct Outlook-WP7 syncing.
I've been searching all over the net and finding upset people who can't sync there Outlook with windows 7 mobile, I've managed to do my contacts and thats it, I'm using Outlook Connector to do that and it's set up to also do my calender with no luck. I'd also like to sync my emails, tasks and notes.
Has anyone sorted this yet please?
Hi,
I have an hd7 and a friend recently got a lumia 900, so jealous, and as i was looking at it the other day i noticed in his calender it had one for Facebook birthdays. I opened the calender settings and he had an option to turn on or off a calender for birthdays from facebook and the standard calendar for facebook on and off separately. I dug around in my HD7 and couldnt find that setting anywhere and it is one i would love to find. any insight?
Nat
Go to your Facebook birthday calendar and get your subscription URL. You can then subscribe to that calendar in your Live calendar and it will be avilable on your phone as a toggleable calendar. I would love to give you more detailed instructions but I am not on my pc.
Sent from my 7 Mozart T8698 using Board Express
That did the trick, thanks Localhorst86!
Another way is to link your FB account to your Windows Live. I have a Windows live calendar that was made automatically for FB birthdays.
