Hey all. Lately, the dialer had been dying on me a lot. No error displayed, just dies and goes to the homescreen. Probably a mem issue, but other apps don't get this behavior.
I've noticed that it closes down when it finds a match on my contacts... So basically right after pressing any number on the dial pad.
Valhala 1.3.2
Any way to fix this? I recently wiped my phone to factory defaults, maybe there's another thing i could try. Dialer should be top 1 priority and should not be taken down by memory management. This is, after all, a phone with a lot of other cool stuff.

Reboot to recovery. Wipe cache/ dalvik cache and fix permissions.

This has been happening on basically every rom that I flash. It never happens as soon as I flash, but will start happening within a few weeks usually. I am running Octane right now, and absolutely love it. It is very fast and I have amazing battery life. The last week I have been using it have been a nightmare though. Almost every time I open messaging and dialer, they will instantly close again. It isn't a force close though. It is just like I hit the home button right after opening them. This is extremely annoying, does anyone have a solution?

it may be a memory management problem, i use blade buddy and change the dalvik.vm.heapsize to 64m under advance settings. i haven't had any problems so far

I have cleared my cache. Not sure about fixing permissions though. I restore a few apps with Titanium Backup, but not a lot.

Ill try this out, thanks.
So, 60% of the time when I type a phone number into my dailer, by the third or fourth number my dailer will disappear and I'll be staring at my home screen. I didn't start experiencing this till I flashed Vahalla on my phone and I've experienced through ICBINB GB, Stock Froyo (for testing purposes), and now on airflips official AOSP GB rom.
Could it be my VCF card is corrupt? Has anyone experienced this problem and fixed it?
Clear the cache on the Dialer, make sure you back up your contacts first. if that doesn't work you might have to do a factory reset on the phone. I have had similar issues before.
I get it occasionally, I have to lock and unlock my phone to get it to stop. I'm assuming its a error in the apk itself.
Are you Using a custom dialer in all cases? Or just in the custom roms?

I was having this issue for the last few days (probably) and didn't notice until yesterday. Fixing permissions fixed the issue.
Does the issue come back for y'all, because I've done that and it will come back at some point in the near future after the wipe and perm fix. If it keeps happening, after the third consecutive time I just let it sit for 10 seconds and type out the number and it will work. That's why I think it has something to do with loading my contacts up from the file.
Are there alternative dialer applications to use that would fix this problem that anyone has used and recommends? I'm at my wits end with this problem.
It may be an issue with the build.prop. Try backing it up and pushing the stock build.prop. I had a similar issue with the phone hanging, and it was my build.prop

i would wipe the dialer data in the settings-application-manage menu. then fix permissions.
First, it sometimes sends me to the wrong place.
Second and worst of all, my navigation lady keeps saying the same thing over and over "turn right to xxxx and exit at xxxx" doesn't matter where i am going or how far away i am from home. But.the navigation map will show the right path/direction/way (most of the time) just the voice keeps looping on the same message.
I am on stock ICS. I've tried reboot, deleting and reinstalling the app, refresh, wipe cache, etc. anybody has this issue and knows how to fix, it gets really annoying?

Try clearing data from google services frameworks and data and cache from maps. Not sure it will work but it's worth a shot.

The same problem happened to me from time to time -- and it might come back again when I update my ROM. Clearing cache and clearing data for Maps was enough to get rid of the problem. No need to re-flash the entire ROM.
- First stop Maps in your Android system (System settings > Apps > All > Maps then click Force stop);
- Then clear cache
- Finally, clear data;
- Try again loading Maps/Navigation and ask it to drive you somewhere. Ear if the voice is still stuck on the same Turn right on main street...
If the problem persists after trying to clear data and cache, clear all /cache partition and Dalvik's cache in recovery.
Are you using TiBu?

Out of curiosity are you using TiBu, and did you let it reboot your phone on a schedule?
I ask because I have seen this same exact problem. The problem appeared to stem from a scheduled job within TiBu that would clear cache and reboot during the night. I killed that job, and then I no longer had the problem. However, I later went back and set up a different job to move apps to internal memory and then reboot. Once again the problem returned. I have since disabled all jobs that reboot the device, and all is good for me now.
Sign out of Google maps first...

I've heard that for persistent problems like yours that you need to sign out of maps and latitude, then clear the maps caches and data in both, then re-download ur maps updates from the play store. Latitude is known to hold onto a lot of the bad data and then re-communicates it back to maps.

hi, i use tibu only to manually back up and delete apps. beyond that I have not used the tibu any other way (i don't know how and have not had the chance to learn) however, i might check it too in case i toggled something that i should not have without knowing.

I am on CleanRom 3.0 right now, fresh install. Now, for the problem. Today while sitting in class I took my phone out to see it was booted into safe mode. So I rebooted it back, and noticed a lot of my downloaded apps were launching 10-25 seconds after I clicked to open them. So, I rebooted again. That didn't work. I cleared cache and dalvik cache. That didn't work. So, I dirty flashed CleanRom 3.0, which still didn't work. After driving and listening to spotify in my car, the apps launched completely fine, and still are. Does anyone know why this is happening? By the way, this happened on my rooted stock rom, that's why I switched roms. I don't know if this could cause any issues, but I do use Directory Bind.
Have you checked if power saver is on?
Another possibility could be a lot of applications running the background and just slowing your phone down.
Check your task manager by holding the home button for about 2-3 seconds.
Yea, power saving is off. And there isn't any apps running in the background when it's ran slow. Most stock apps will launch fast (settings, phone, clock), but downloaded ones won't (I funny, handcent sms). I seriously can't figure out what the issue is. I've even tried messing around with set cpu, but that didn't help.

This used to happen on my phone, and it still happens on my wife's. Basically she presses call, and the call won't initiate for 30-60 seconds. The phone is rooted with factory fp1e. I just wiped it a few days ago, started fresh, and right now it is her only complaint. I've tried wiping cache and dalvik. I also tried to fix permissions with cwm 4.xx but the log says it's missing some sort of file. I tried permissions with ROM toolbox but it just spins for hours... I don't think it did anything.
I've been living with that annoying problem forever. Tweaked 3.2 stock or lazarus. I've had the problem way before 3.x or fp5 too

Mine does that too sometimes and rebooting seems to help for a bit. Sucks when trying to win something off the radio and you have to be caller #19 or whatever
Mine was doing the same but only worse. It could take minutes before it dialed. Even worse, it would dial while I was on the phone because I pressed "Send" so many times before. The problem is really bad for me because I have a older phone. Anyway, I fixed it by doing the following. I used Cool Tools, OS Monitor and Watchdog to look for runaway apps or processes that use too much CPU. I removed many tweaks I've added like SD boost and Dalvik Heap size and set them back to the stock settings. Using a tool like Rom Toolbox, set your CPU to maximum while the screen is on, normal when it's not. My CPU usage while idle is now very low (<5%). Cool Tool is a great tool for checking this. I also recommend you try CrossBreeder by idcrisis. It's better than the Seeder app, in my opinion. Good luck...
EDIT: Look @ my post #1819 in the CrossBreeder forum for a little more info.
