Well u won't get it right then and there because Google sends out the update in waves ... it will take out 3 weeks til everyone is updated... but there will always be a manual download but u have to make sure u know how to update it manually and u have to make sure u have the right download... if u have a 4G then make sure its for the Nexus S 4G

Thanks alot nwo ill knwo what todo! Ill just get back to 2.3.6 now
Why would you even bother waiting for the official OTA?
There will most likely be a stable ROM before the update comes to the NS. And even if it won't, custom ROMs will be developed in the same day. Just wait for the source code.
Yeah i wouldnt go back to stock... because youll be able to download the zip-file before the update is shown on ur mobile!! so just keep ur favourite rom until then!!

I always thought if you were not running a stock rom, you would not get updates pushed.
I'm running Dilligaf. I'm pretty sure since I'm rooted and running a stock rom that the update will fail.
Not sure what to do. Any recommendations, besides just living with the notification?
It's a sense Rom so it will tell you . Do you want the update or no?

Thanks. I don't know if I want it or not, because I don't know what is in it.
If it's for sideloading only, I don't need it, because Dilligaf already allows that.

I gathered that. I just want the notication gone... Last time an update was pushed, i was running a stock rooted rom. ATTN released a new rom with the ota update integrated into it. Loading that rom eliminated the update message.
Looks like I'll have to wait for Dilligaf to put the update into his rom...
Hey guys
My Nexus S is currently flashed with [CM7.1.0.1-N229] -=Nexus MV 10.19B=- |Fast&Stable|Ezekeel's Mod|Matr1x 9.0|
With the announcement by Google advising that all Nexus S devices will receive the ICS update, is there anything I need to do to my phone to receive this firmware update?
Do I need to restore back to default ROM etc, or can I leave as is?
Thanks for your help
Quentin
You won't receive the OTA, you need to be running stock for that.
Changes are that once the source is released someone will create an AOSP ROM faster than the OTA will reach you, so you could just flash that?
Greetz
don't worry
CM7 and other group will have ICS based-on ROM
so , only thing you may worry is how long you gonna wait
beside , you always can flash ICS stock ROM if you don't wanna wait anymore , don't you think ?
anyone have any idea on when the ICS update will come to NS4G?

what if my phone is rooted then i have backup of my stock rom. does my stock rom receives ota update? what do you think so?
You should receive an OTA if you restore the stock image and one is available.
Would you need the stock recovery if you do receive the ota?

Rooting is required to Install ICS..?
Hi.
Can I install ICS without rooting my phone...? My phone is unlocked...
Thanks
You will NOT receive an OTA update unless you're running Android on a stock unrooted device. The only way you will run Ice Cream Sandwich is if you find an ICS ROM but most of them are in alpha stages, meaning not suitable for daily use.

You'll receive the OTA on a stock rooted rom as well, just like every other OTA.

Unlikely. Most OTAs do not do an assert on recovery and flash without any issue with CWM. If you've modified anything it does assert though it will fail.

It won't install though so you still won't be able to OTA ICS.

Why wouldn't it? Every other OTA has had no problem installing through CWM on a rooted stock system. Unless this OTA decides to assert recovery for some reason (the only reason it would fail as it would then be trying to patch recovery).
This morning I plugged my phone into Kies and was informed a firmware upgrade was available. I proceeded with the upgrade and how have ice cream sandwich on my phone. I have taken some pictures, which I will try to attach.

Edit: I believe this is how to root ICS
Just flash cwm or twrp and then install superuser.zip to root.

Make sure you have the latest superuser.zip and you have to flash it a few times.
I am in Kies and my current firmware is PDA:KJ7/PHONE:LE2/CSC:KJ7 (RWC) and if I click on Firmware Upgrade and Initialization I get a message saying SGH-I727R does not support initializing.
Am I doing something wrong? Can you get the update from Kies if your phone is root?
Thanks.
What is the build date of this Rogers ICS update?
If I'm on a ROM can I just go ahead and update via keis? Or so I have to reinstall an official build first?
Really not sure I want to revert back to TouchWiz from SKY ICS though, any comments on the Rogers build?
could someone grab the radio from this and make cwm flashable please ?

I dont need the actual HE update i just need a stock rom which will get me unrooted to get HE update.

Follow section 6.
or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867253
Or...
If you are looking the HE update why not just go with CleanRom 3.0. It is based off of the new HE update and is about 95% stock. The plus side is that most of the garbage (VZW bloat) is removed. It is MUCH faster and very stable.

If you haven't set everything back up again, you can clear data from Google Services Framework and try to "force" the update.

I saw somewhere here that if you're on HD then it won't update since that wasn't an official update. Idk how much truth there was to that. Have you tried updating by using the G7 OTA first?
