Any help will be greatly appreciated - T-Mobile LG G2x

Please bear with me i'm a noob.
I got my G2x with stock rom 2.2 Froyo and then rooted and flashed it without updating it to Gingerbread... I,ve tried CM7, Weapon, and now on Eaglesblood. None of them would let me use voice search without crashing..it will recognize what i say but as soon as i pick a selection from the list it force closes.. and some of the phone settings i try to access will also crash on me.
Is this because i've never updated my phone to GB before root/flash? Was i supposed to? I actually tried updating it with LG updater after root/flash (weapon at the time) and bricked it.. so im not going thru that again.
Thanks in advance!

Well for voice search... Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it?
As for the rest of the phone, maybe a cache and dalvik cache wipe?

I'm not trying to patronize you, but you have stated that you are new to this, so I'm going to ask the following.
Between flashing new ROMs, did you:
Perform factory reset.
Wipe the dalvik cache.
Wipe cache.
Format /system.
This is not something you need to do everytime (Like when upgrading from one version of CM7 to the next), but is recommended (Especially going from the broad range of ROMs you went through).
If you haven't done the following, I recommend doing that first, then coming back should you still need to troubleshoot. MANY issues can be fixed simply by starting with a clean slate.

Yes, i have factory reset, wiped cache n dalvik, and formatted system between flashes. Im going to try reinstalling it now.

Voice search works on my 2.3.4 roms. They are not anything special, but lean, fast and stable.

So... I just tried reinstalling voice search to no avail. I uninstalled it first and then booted into recovery to wipe cache and dalvik. Now, what I noticed was that when I select wipe dalvik cache, it gives error log "E:unknown volum for path [/sd-ext]." but when I press Yes to confirm the wipe, it says "dalvik cache wiped." I'm not sure if it's really wiping dalvik or not... Well, I installed voice search again and it still force closed.

The dalvik cache wipe is working, it will always say that unless you've wiped your SD card with CWM. Since there shouldn't be a need to, it's not a problem and shouldn't be a factor in your situation.

I would like to use it when I'm driving around.. and it's annoying to knowingly keep a feature of phone that won't work

[Q] Home and search button stopped responding?

Hey guys,
I'm running the Octane ROM on my SGS4G, and suddenly both my home and search touch keys stopped functioning. However, they ARE triggering haptic feedback (a vibration in the phone when pressed)
Does anyone know what causes this and what's a common trouble shooting route?
I updated my binary in super user and updated busybox...nothing changed.
Also, I don't know if this is related to the problem but it happened at the same time: text msg notifications are permanently as if the phone is on silent; no sound or vibration. Just a status bar icon.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, this phone is my only daily.

Have you rebooted the phone? If so, I'd suggest doing a backup then performing a factory data reset.
Yea I rebooted several times..
could I just wipe the dalvik?
If I only do that, what information is lost on my phone?
Also the update from busy box said it might require I do a package reinstall "without" a factory wipe for the update to take effect... Any suggestions on that?

You could always try wiping caches first. No data loss that way. The Davlik cache will rebuild itself over time.
I'm nto sure about BusyBox, though. Maybe someone else has an idea?
What about the cache partition?
I guess my question is, what exactly are you wiping when you wipe the dalvik and when you wipe the cache partition?
and is it a safe practice for when strange problems like this arise?
Just wiping the cache.completely safe and the first thing to try after a reboot.also I would suggest fixing permissions when clearing the cache

Well I found the answer to what they both are Here
Figured I'd post it for anyone who every comes across this thread.
But thank you for going into more detail about it Somairotevoli.
where is it i fix permissions? In super user you mean?
And i just finished doing a full wipe =/
fixed the problem...but just sucks. Im glad i removed the SD card before hand, I think it tried to format it.
Does a factory wipe touch any SD files?

Fix permissions in the advanced option of cwm
And no factory reset does not wipe sd unless you tell it to when you're doing it from your settings menu

ah, gotcha.
Wish I woulda have tried that before wiping.
Another question: After the wipe, I lost all the fonts that were originally there after I first installed Octaine ROM.
I'm thinking I should just reinstall the package, but I'm afraid I cant remember if I had to disable VOODOO lagfix first and whether or not i still have to change the mounting points before i reinstall the rom..

Glad you got it working though sucks you had to wipe everything. To be safe I would disable voodoo though I do not know if it's necessary. Definitely go into CWM and re-check the mounts first before flashing.
Well, unfortunately, after a full wipe... everything worked fine for one day... then suddenly the phone froze and restarted. After reboot, some apps had the android image on their icon and ALL OVER my wallpaper was a skull and cross bones image...cascaded in rows and columns all over the background..
and ofcourse.. my home and search buttons are non-functional once again...
What does this mean??

I'm running the Octane rom too, and have started having problems with all four buttons, but mainly the outside settings and search ones. Other roms do the same for me now, so I don't think it's the problem. I have fully wiped, reformatted, fixed permissions, you name it.
It dosen't seem to matter what happens, they still resist working properly. So are you saying that doing a wipe/reinstall/permission fix did it for you? I can't tell if it's a physical thing or a software thing, but I'm leaning more toward software.

You should probably re download your desired rom, do a full wipe (data, cache, and dalvik) and re flash. this sucks but should work. Did you by chance ever flash a kf series 2.3.3 ROM?

After the wipe did you install a new ROM or stay on Octane? Maybe try wiping & install Raver's KJ6 stock via Odin or CWM. Run stock for a few days and see if the problems persist.

What Did I Do Wrong?

Ok so I have Vahalla Final flashed through Odin as my first ROM on this phone. Everything has been great for a few days and I flashed the lighting tweak today with no issues. Just a little while ago I made a backup and flashed the Linda voices and the Ki3 modem bc I saw where the KJ6 didn't allow long text messages. When I flashed the modem some blue words popped up really zoomed in on another screen then it was done. The phone was laggy so i tried to delete everything and restore like I had done numerous times on old phone.
I did a factory reset then cache then tried to format system. These are all steps i used to successfully take on other phone. It won't let me format the system though. Says: "format_volume failed to mount "/system" error formatting system!"
Where did I go wrong? Am I supposed to do some more wacky things on this phone for a restore? Everything else on it seems to take 20 more steps

CWM versions prior to those in bhndven's Slightly Modified Stock kernels have a problem with mounting/unmouting the /system partition in GB. I believe you can backup and restore user data, but nothing on the /system partition.
Flashing the KI3 modem shouldn't have had an effect like you're describing, though. I can't say I've had an issue like that at all or heard of people having that issue after flashing the modem.

So everything should run fine after trying the actual restore of my backup even though i couldn't format the system? I have a backup but don't want to restore over data that wasn't deleted or whatever. If that's possible.
How the hell do i know which modem to use anyways? There's like 10 to choose from
Uh yeah I forget it tries to format system anyways when restoring... and it couldn't. So what do i do? Re-flash the GB starter pack way through Odin?

As for the modem, I'm using KI3 on mine. You already did a factory reset so you should be able to just re-flash Valhalla.
Trying now. Does Vahalla automatically change all the mounts that the other roms require changing before flashing?

No worries. Good luck
Hey I still have an issue. I reflashed Vahalla through CWM and it was fine at first all the way through setting everything up like it was before. Ran smooth. I went to the market this morning and checked for updates and Google Search, Maps and Superuser updated. Phone started acting really laggy again. Scrolls really slow, pulls up GO Launcher menu slowly, etc.
It seems to me that the re flash installed over the existing data that was left on the phone since i couldn't format my system.
My new question is, what's the best way to re do everything including formatting the system if I can't format through CWM? If I flash through Odin does that format everything? Or am I better of just going through the whole GB Starter Pack process again?? Or will that even work now since i've already done it?

If you flashed and "it was fine at first all the way through setting everything up"...
try reflashing as you did before. Do fresh installs on as much as you can ONE AT A TIME. And then restore ONE AT A TIME what you can't do fresh installs on. It sounds like one of your backups is not agreeing with the system. Install/Restore ONE AT A TIME and play with phone between each to see if you can determine which backup your system is not agreeing with.
Did that make sense??
EDIT: And make sure to wipe dalvik cache and cache partition before you reflash as is always recommended.

Yeah it makes sense thanks. I will do this despite how impatient I am (see where that got me). I'm just got spoiled on another phone that was way way easier to work with. Weren't as many options to screw up either.
Any suggestions on how I can get my system to format for future reference?
I feel like it's Go Launcher for some reason. In cased you missed it though, I didn't start having lag issues until I flashed the Ki3 modem and linda voices one after another. I have a good backup but I can't format system to restore it.

I have never formatted my system nor read anybody wanting/needing to format their system. A factory reset is what people use to clean the gremlins along with wiping dalvik cache and cache partition. Bhundven has recommended flashing the same rom twice in a row I believe to help make sure all installs correctly (I think he was talking about bootloaders when he recommended that).
But a factory reset is what I think you are trying to accomplish with formatting your system.

I use GoLauncher on Vahalla Black with no problems. I think it has to do with your backup... not the app itself.
I wiped caches, did factory reset, tired to format system again with no luck and accidentally restarted before re-flashing Vahalla. Which, I guess I didn't really need to do anyways if it's an App causing the issue. I guess the factory reset would be enough. Smooth again so i will try some fresh reinstalls now. Thanks for the noob patience

Ok cool. In another phones forum a system wipe is actually suggested a lot. I think... I did it every time on the G2x before installing any new roms or backups. I wasn't doing it at first but started after someone suggested it. But yeah I think the factoy reset is enough. Seems to be enough so far.

[Q] G2x stuck on hellfire sign after LG with blue splash

Hey guys, I don't think I did anything weird but anyway. After I get out of Wifi sometimes I have to reboot so the phone can use mobile data, I am on hellfire sandwich btw. So this morning I tried to reboot once I got to school but the phone sometimes freezes while rebooting and I have to take out the battery and same happened this morning. Took out the battery put it back in, started the phone and once it goes to the hellfire logo with orange thing going round and round, it stayed on that screen for about 30 minutes and i tried rebooting several times no luck. :crying: I could get to CWM recovery but is there anyway I can back up my files? I have some really important stuff also could you link me to a solution? Early thanks.
(1) try wiping cache and delvik cache in cwm and fix permissions, then reboot, if that doesn't work, (2) try making a nandroid backup, then wipe everything, then restore, if that doesn't work, (3) try flashing the same rom over your current one, if none of the above work, (4) try flashing a different kernel, or finally (5) try flashing the same rom over your current one.
One of these should work, if none of them do, then you're probably gonna have to wipe everything and flash the rom again, which will cause you to lose all your data.
Good luck
Also try deleting the tweak script in system/etc/init.d use my tool and launch AROMA File Manager, use menu button to select to mount system and data (partitions), then navigate to the folder and delete the one script.

Yeah I think flashing the same rom will solve the problem but one more question, If I just want to flash the same rom do I just delete delvik cache and cache? also will that make me lose data such as like how far I got in angry bird or my pictures or phone numbers? or what does deleting cache and delvik cache delete?

[Q] Recovery is broken??? I Don't Know.. Please Help

So I bought a Nexus 5 off of craigslist for a pretty good price about a week ago and he had already rooted and installed a custom recovery onto the phone. He had some sort of rom that I didn't like so I decided to flash my own. So I downloaded cyanogen mod (the latest nightly build at the time) and flashed it along with g apps and rebooted the phone. When I it was turning on it said "upgrading apps xxx out of xxx." I was very confused because coming from a Nexus 4 and flashing many ROMs I have never seen this before. When the phone finally powered on it started giving me errors every 5 seconds and I realized soon after that I had my previous apps from the old rom still installed and everything else was in place. I managed to get into settings after clicking ok to errors every 5 seconds and saw that my ROM did indeed change to Cyanogen Mod. I decided to try to factory reset the phone through the settings menu and that fixed the phone seemingly until today. I tried installing another rom but this one is giving me multiple errors and then rebooting my phone. I could not get into the settings to factory reset the phone through there.
I was thinking that maybe the recovery was broken but I'm not sure of how to fix it. I tried to find a flashable recovery but only found IMG versions which I don't know how to install. Is there a possibility of any other issues? I am resetting/wiping cache/wiping dalvik cache every time in that order. When I'm installing the roms it says something about e:/ volume not existing or not being found could that be the problem? I don't recall ever seeing this on my nexus 5. If anyone knows how I could fix this issue I would greatly appreciate your help.
Thanks, Alex:laugh::laugh:

Did you wipe data and cache before flashing the new rom?
This happened to me loading some ROM previously. You need to make sure that you do a factory reset and wipe the cache and dalvik. I also redownloaded the ROM just to be sure but I do not think that is necessary. It sounds like you dirty flashed. Is the recovery Team win? If so there is a setting under mount that you need to uncheck and it is called system.
edit: I re-read and saw that you are wiping the cache and dalvik cache, by resetting do you mean you are factory resetting? This happened to me loading some ROM previously. You need to make sure that you do a factory reset and wipe the cache and dalvik. I also redownloaded the ROM just to be sure but I do not think that is necessary. It sounds like you dirty flashed. Is the recovery Team win? If so there is a setting under mount that you need to uncheck and it is called system.
edit: I re-read and saw that you are wiping the cache and dalvik cache, by resetting do you mean you are factory resetting? I see. Well, if you really did do a factory reset before flashing a new Rom, then maybe you have an old version recovery, or something is borked with your phones partitions. Honestly, buying a used one like that, I would do a full factory restore by flashing the stock images(sticky in general for directions) but don't relock the bootloader. This will erase everything and repartition the phone. Then install recovery and flash away.

I fixed the issue by flashing a new recovery through adb already and it works fine now thank you. I guess it was really my recovery that was broken.

Good. Glad you got it worked out. Was probably an old build of whatever recovery and because of the way KitKat changed things, there were a lot of problems wiping when the phone first came out. If you find any more good deals on your local Craigslist, PM me. I want a black n5 instead of my white one.

Google Play Sign In

So I dirty flashed the new build of mahdi over my old build. Newest gapps as well. I rather flash dirty cause of all the settings I have them the way I like them.
For some reason it doesnt let me sign in to the google play store at all. Tried reverting to the old gapps as well and nothing seems to work. Let me know if anyone has any idea besides doing a clean flash.

Thanks for the quick response. I could have sworn I tried that. I cleared a couple of the apps cache. Including the google play store cache. Anything else you might suggest I try?

Sorry Let me re answer that, i cleared the cache, data, and force closed the app.
I also went back into recovery, formatted system, cleared the cache, cleared the dalvik cache , flashed the rom once more, then flashed the latest slim gapps.
Try clearing data on play store, Google services framework and Google play services. Reboot and see what happens.
If not, try different gapps. And you've done everything wipes wise, except wiping data it seems. A clean install is wiping system, data, cache and dalvik. ?
The problem exists mostly because of an update to google play services. I was somehow lucky in that I managed to do a full wipe and for some reason (even though it shouldnt) custom nandroid restore of Data only the problem went away,
There are various methods of trying to fix this without a wipe but they haven't worked for me and many others. A clean flash is the best way really.

I have since then fixed the problem, as nothing worked like I wanted it to. A clean flash did the trick, losing all the settings and notes I had in my notepad apps. Should have backed those up before clean wiping my whole device. Thanks anyways guys.
