[Q] Rewinding sound while speaking. - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi, I recently started messing around with my sgs4g and installed a custom rom using the GB Stater Pack and flash the KJ6 AOSP, everything is working flawlessly except that everytime I'm talking to someone I suddenly hear a rewinding-kind of sound and the other person can hear it too, it happened to me using octane rom, stock GB update and AudiophileFTW edition, can someone please help me get rid of that sound it's getting really annoying, I would really appreciate any help given. Thanks in advance

dude, you hurt your hardware.
Go back to stock KD1, and see if you still have the issue, If you do, go to the tmobile store.

If I Odin the stock one the rewinding sound goes away, I already did that, but I really want to try a few custom roms because the battery consumption of the stock one is awful.
I have 2 galaxy s 4g both of them are having the same problem one is running the kj6 aosp and the other one is running stock gingerbread leak rooted

When you flash the GB ROMs, are you doing a factory data reset, clearing caches, etc?

Weird issue. I know you didn't mention it in the OP, but are you over or under-clocking at all?
I'm somewhat with airflup on this - it seems to be a hardware issue. I am saying that based on the fact that I've not heard of anyone else having this issue on GB ROMs. It could be something funky with one of the chips in the phone but only manifests in the GB ROMs. It's weird but not unheard of.
I've not attempted this so someone tell me I'm an idiot for thinking about this, but what if you flash a stock GB ROM followed by the modem from KD1 or whatever Froyo ROM you're using to see if the problem is still there?

If you have the same issues on 2 different devices, you should redownload the roms(cwm and odin), maybe its a download issue i.e. mds5 error
Tell me if that works

As of today I have rooted my phone with different methods, re-downloaded everything, used different versions of Odin, went back to stock, install official GB, it's still doing it, also with the stock Gingerbread leak I noticed that besides the rewinding nose every 4-5 minutes, also the call log doesn't work and while I was watching a movie at work the phone light stayed lit during the whole film... I don't know what to do, is either go back to stock and recharge my phone every 4 hours or go back to kj6 aosp and deal with that annoying sound ..

Kernel is stock no under nor overclocked, btw what's the modem's role on the galaxy s 4g can this be the issue, I have never changed it but what if I do, can it help in any way, thank for all the help...

The modem is the radio for your phone to communicate with the cellular service. People change the modem file to see if they get better speeds in their area. Check the dev section, there's a whole thread containing just the modem files to flash.
I don't know if it will makea difference but it certainly couldn't hurt to try.

Refurbished G2X and Flashing ROMS

I'm currently using the newest Weapon G2X ROM on my phone...
Like many of you, this ROM is working just fine, but I get the itch to try something new.
I've tried to flash the new EaglesBlood release (1.9), and I've also tried the latest CM7 and MIUI.
I'm DEFINITELY NOT a pro at flashing ROMs, but I've done enough successful flashes to know how to do it correctly. In all of the above mentioned ROMS, my phone will freeze up on the boot screen, or I will get booted, but not even be able to sync a google account or reload apps... My phone will lock up and I'll have to battery pull.
In another thread this morning, I saw a user mention that the REFURBISHED handsets sometimes have problems with some ROMs and OC'd kernals...
Is anyone else having this problem? This kind of makes sense for me.

That should not be the case. The only difference in a refurbished handset is the model number. Other than that, and the fact is is previously used but everything reflashed to stock by LG or TMO, the ROMs should work the same as a DW model phone.

I'm all out of ideas then... Do you have any idea why I'd have so much trouble loading other ROMs?
Like I mentioned, I'm no pro, but I've Flashed enough ROMs to think that I'm "good" at it.
I'm completely stumped.

Before flashing a new ROM did you do a factory data reset, format the system partition and clear the Dalvik cache? If not you will have problems as you described. You need to wipe the phone clean between flashing different roms. If upgrading to a new version of the same rom you might get away without a wipe. But if you are changing roms the steps I mentioned above are essential or you will often get bootloops or the phone will lock up during boot.

the Best I've found if you want gingerbread style is Hellfire phoenix
or if you want ICS style is Hellfire sandwich v1.6 (which is what I am using for a while now)
the only problem that I found is the video camera but other than that everything else works fine on my G2X. they update couple times a month for the last 4 months so they are always trying to make things better for their users. if you have problems they are more than willing to try to help you with it. if you are using with a simple mobile setting it has a funny setup but it work very good (better wifi & phone signals)

My original g2x could handle oc and UV big time, anything the devs put out . My replacement can only handle kernels with stock voltage and oc is unstable anything past 1.1ghz. So to answer your question, may be a coincidence or may just be bad luck on our part. Remember, not every processor is created equal despite being the same phone. I get tempted to get an additional replacement every once in a while but laziness tells me otherwise.

Possibly cleaning and wiping everything soo good that you clean the new rom right off your sd card?? lol. just a thought. ive done that when i 1st started flashing roms. or possibly flashing gapps on roms that dont require you to?
edit: i just realized how old this post is. lol
the reason refurbs night have worse luck is because of all the people who send their phones back because of that, they make up a reason to tell Tmobile and get a nice shiny new one. The old one is reset and passes all the "official" stability tests and gets sent out again.

No Luck Upgrading to official GB

I've had absolutely no luck upgrading from KD1 to offiical GB.
I started off with the official KD1 (from Kies) that I have been running for months.
The only mods are root and CWM.Kies downloads the GB update (taking several minutes) then immediately comes up with the screen saying my phone could not be updated. It leaves the phone in download mode.
If I reboot I'm back to where I was.
Taking a suggestion in another thread, I cleared data and cache, and tried again.
Same result.
Taking another suggestion, I Odin'd another KD1 on top of my original. Same result.
Taking another suggestion, I Odin'd a KC1 on top hoping that Kies would upgrade me to official KD1 or GB. However, Kies took one look and said there was no upgrade.
I've Odin'd back to KD1, so after a lot of work I'm back to where I started.
Any ideas?

First you would need gingerbread bootloaders if you have them then flash away, if not you will need to odin kg4 for the bootloaders then drhonks kernel for root then flash kj6 from cwm.

I probably will, but I also would like to find out why I can't Kies the stock GB Rom. Obviously Kies doesn't like something it sees on the phone.
There is another issue I'm fighting at the same time. Until now I didn't have a data plan and just used wifi for data. I just got a data plan and haven't been able to get the phone to use it (just voice/text). I want to put the phone into a completely stock condition to try and eliminate variables, and possibly get T-mobile to help. I also feel that what ever Kies doesn't like might be a factor with the cell data issue.
Kies is potentially bad news for your phone if you've been on a custom ROM. If it doesn't work smoothly on the first try don't try and force it. What inevitably happens is that in a sudden rush to get it to work you start flashing one ROM after another (something you wouldn't normally do) and end up issues. There have been a bunch of posts about losing recovery and download modes as people start trying to flash back to froyo from GB. A buddy of mine just jacked his phone up so bad doing this...no recovery, no download, couldn't get it to adb boot on his Linux box. I finally got it into download mode with an adb/odin circus trick, hail Mary, and odined ravers hawk.zip to clean everything up. There is no way i want to go through that again, and there is no real logic in the way we fixed it, but it all started with a bad flash from kies. To any one reading this, USE THE CWM FLASHABLE THAT RAVER MADE IN THE DEV FORUM, take advantage of their knowledge and hard work and save yourself (and your sgs4g) some heartache.

Still no wifi "f.m.l"!!!
Everything works accept wifi reinstalled kj1 kernel frs, wiped down phone completley even used odin again to reinstall 2.3.6 official from ravers post and nothing ive done everything 2 or 3 times the sameway even tried different usb slot i used odin 1.85 i just dont get it anyone else got this problem

I just tried it coming from GB NexusMod 4 and just got the boot loop as well. It is a little tricky getting back into recovery - you only get about a second in the CWM menu before the phone spontaneously reboots.

Performed it fine here with zero issue.
If your cwm is acting up, may be lot more going on here.
I suggest a return to stock
Reflash cwm
Then flash this build.
Wish I could say more but UN able to see or confirm your issue.

Tmo
Hey, great base.
I have flashed this, the leak and a few other ics roms. On this rom I cannot get my phone to hook up to tmo 4g, edge works fine, but it wont jump from edge to 4g. I tried flashing a tmo radio but no dice.
The leak worked fine in that regard. Consistently connected to highest available signal.
what can I tweak in order to re-establish connection to tmo 4g.
I tried to go into mobile network settings and all of the settings there seem consistent with the stock tmo settings. But when i try to change network operator settings from automatic to manual it never gets past "searching"
Thanks for any help you might be able to lend

i tried this......still having the same issue, switched from CM10 back to stock and had issues with my GPS being way off, like by 3300 meters off haha.....so flashed back to stock, still had the issue, so i used the rooted stock image and flashed that and i'm still off by about over 2k meters.....don't use my navigation or maps all that much but when i do need it i'll have a bit of an issue lol
I had issues with my gps for a few days. If was real flaky but got better with synergy 1.5. I have since move to 1.6 with a fresh install and am still okay. Check out a app called gps status. See if you can see any gps satellites. Maybe in that app clear your agps state in tools. Then if that doesn't work try to download gps assistance with the same app in the same settings. Make sure your out side for this stuff with your gps. It's probably not gonna hit ya sitting on the couch.

New AOKP JB issue with radio
Well I am trying to get something fixed and I am going through a complete restore to do this.
But just so you are aware the new AOKP JB release will kill your data. I learned a hard lesson with this when trying to recover and nandroid back to my previous rom. It killed my data completely and would not allow me to do anything with data in any rom. I used the root66 stock rom in hopes it would work, and that didnt even solve the issue.
Right now I am restoring a factory image through kies and seeing if that will do what I need. If it does, I am sticking with stock roms for awhile until AOSP roms have more time to develope with less bugs.

Once I did that my phone rebooted and everything came back as it was never gone, well except for all of my data on the internal sd card, but that is to be expected.
After 2 hours of going through numerous steps I finally found a fix, mind you not the most simple of fixes, but a fix none the less.
I think I am just going to stay stock for awhile like I mentioned and wait for the OTA that comes out in 2014 lol, unless in review of AOSP roms the issues present now are gone after sometime.

VRBLK1 Full Wipe vs No Wipe in Odin

Since the New TouchWiz JellyBean leak dropped, we quickly found out that the Rootdebug method no longer works for rooting...Not a big deal as developers rolled back to our grass roots and used the original Odin method to achieve root. My only issue is with the suggestion to flash a modified No Wipe image of the stock K1 leak...Im not sure if I agree with this. I have dirty flashed with Odin in the past and things appeared to work fine on ICS, but stepping up to JellyBean seems to be different!
Point is since the leak has dropped many folks complain of media server causing battery drain, I was one of them. So I decided to odin back to stock using the rooted FULL WIPE VRBLK1 version by Mr. Robinson...and I have had substantially less battery drain!!! Battery life is currently at 15hrs with 65% left...2 hrs screen on.
I would suggest to anybody that flashed a no wipe image in odin and is having issues with media server draining the battery, and/or any other issues appear, try flashing the FULL WIPE version! As others have said, I believe the problem is a corrupted file on the internal sd causing the issue. Also a few other small issues I was having appears to be fixed, such as touch screen being unresponsive at times...also gps seems to lock faster. Anybody else noticing the same??
This is interesting. I did the no wipe to the newest leak and I felt it was horrible. Battery for me was not as good and the phone was always hotter. So I went back to J1 leak. If I get time I might try the full wipe version of the newest leak. Try the theory out.
As an addition, my CPU was always acting crazy. Random low frequency locks (would not ramp up). Sometimes it would stay high, probably the cause of the warm phone. And weird battery drain from the system I just could not explain.
Thanks for this and as I said I'll try fresh after the weekend. Holiday weekend is my family time.

I know this is somewhat off topic so I apologize for derailing....are you guys having any issues with NFC on AOSP ROMs after flashing the leak via Odin?

I've only flashed an AOSP once. That was the last time. Too choppy, and i like my TW features. So, to answer your question, I don't know.

I did full wipe and everything is great except gps.
I did a no wipe version moving from J1 to K1, what I saw was the RAM footprint increase by 50%...
I did the full and footprint went back to what I recognized on J1...Barry seems as good or better than J1 too

Did you use the full wipe or no wipe version in odin? Thats the point of this thread...no wipe seems to be causing a foul odor with media drain and random issues for folks. The full wipe leaves you so fresh and so clean!!
Sorry for sounding like a noob, but what exactly is media drain? Battery use by "media server?"

Thats good! Im not saying everybody is going to have issues with the no wipe version...most likely its going to be folks that have flashed a bunch of roms and accumulated alot of folders/files on the internal SD. The point is if you are one of the unfortunate folks thats having issues, try the FULL WIPE version.

My phone seems a little laggy which I did not experience on the first leak. I don't not have the typical problems people have with flashing the no wipe version... That's what I flashed. Thinking of trying a factory reset but this thread makes me wonder if flashing the wipe version might be better? What's the difference though? Both wipe and no wipe are from the same file, right?

Question, I did the no wipe version on odin from the stock samsung s3, and now my RAM usage is almost always close to 1 gb. Before on ICS it was like 600 or 700 mb. Is this normal for jelly bean?

Full Wipe will repartition the Internal SD and wipe rom data...this will get rid of any corrupted files that reside on the internal. Its the same principal as reformatting and installing windows. Dirty Flashing writes your data over the top of data and nothing else in the internal sd is touched...not saying dirty flashing is bad, I do it alot, but when wierd issues arise, 90% of the time a Full Wipe with Odin fixes things.

I believe touchwiz jellybean uses more ram.
Is the full wipe version included everything like the original Verizon release version? (radio, rom, kernel, bootloader etc...)Thanks.

Yep
I have just realized that the hotspot is broken. Every time I try to turn it on, it force closes Settings. Anyone else having this problem?
EDIT: So I downloaded a hotspot toggle widget, and it works fine. I only have a problem if I try to enable hotspot via Settings. Interesting.
