[Q] Mango update question - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'm on tmobile uk with a samsung omnia 7, it was previous unlocked with the chevron tool and then updated to nodo and it stayed unlocked. The phone is now informing me there is a new update available which I'm guessing is the Mango update. If I update will my phone stay unlocked?
Ive searched the forums but cannot find an answer.
Thanks for any advice.

No it will not stay unlocked. Luckily there is a cheap ($9 one time fee) official unlock without needing the full $99 dev account.

Is the new unlock by chevron the same as the old one, just activated in a different way?

You get a token from them and run an exe while your phone is connected. Use that token and it developers unlock your phone.
They have developed this along with Microsoft So dont have to worry about it much. Also if anytime you want to switch to MS App Hub, you can request to deactivate your account with them so you can use your phone with MS App Hub.
I unlocked my Samsung Focus and here are all the snaopshot/ video and details if you want to read along

thanks for letting me know.

[Q] windows phone 7 unlock

Is it possible to unlock these phones, does it just ask for a code or how is it done, would like to know, do any of the phones come factory unlocked.
Yes it's possible to unlock the phones.
What phone are you looking at for unlocking?
Phones to unlock
I wanna either get a htc surround or a Lg quantum. I will pick one up Monday when they come out just nor sure which one yet.
I'm not sure weather they will come unlocked but I can only speak for the UK, the HTC HD7 was locked to o2 as were other phones on respective networks (orange etc).
You CAN get unlock codes though, I managed to. You might have to wait a few days after purchase (I had to wait 5 days) as the phones are that new the IMEI numbers aren't in any databases yet. Not sure if this would apply to the US though as the phones have been around for a bit now elsewhere.
For the omnia 7, direct unlock here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=828503
HTC surround isn't doing so well in terms of reviews and what not. I'd reconsider that.
Lg quantum
I think i will go for the lg instead as i want the full keyboard, where can i find someone to unlock these win7 phones.

First of all decide where you are buying your phones from. Some of the providers like O2 do not lock their devices.
For the other devices which come locked there are quite a lot of sites which gives you the unlock code within minutes or max 1 day.
Also you can check how much your provider is charging to unlock the device. Usually the charge between your provider and the ones outside is not that huge and if that is the case it is always better to get it unlocked from your provider.

My carrier that actually has win 7 phones wont give you an unlock code for 30 days and want 75 bucks after that, so im looking for an aftermarket company to unlock the lg quantum on bell in canada and also unlock a rogers samsung focus on rogers.
you guys
i'm concerned about this unlocking business. if an iphone comes originally unlocked there's of course 0 problem, but if the simlock gets removed using some software or code and the phone gets its software updated, the simlock comes right back. i know there weren't any wp7 updates yet, but do you think this situation also concerns wp7 devices?

u r talking about jail breaking here not sim unlocking.
Once you sim unlock your phone the only advantage is you can use the SIM of any carrier in it and no future updates would be locking it back.
The scenario you told would only come if you find a way to modify the reg settings to use the phone as a usb storage or something like that. in this case once you update ur phone with a wp 7 update ur hack would stop working till u find and tweak ur registry settings again

thanks for replying, but i actually was talking about sim unlocking. i heard that if the iphone is originally locked to some carrier e.g. at&t, the simlock gets removed using a code or software and the phone gets an update, the simlock returns. i was wondering whether this scenario concerns wp7. either way, it's always best to buy a phone that's originally sim unlocked (more expensive...)

The phones are initially prepared unlocked from the manufacturers like HTC. Carriers like orange than orders phones for them which they ask to be locked to Orange SIMS. There would be an unlock code to enable the handset to accept all the SIM's as the handset was made like that. If you contact your carrier like Orange they would in turn contact HTC and get the unlock code from them. If you contact any third party from the web they calculate this unlock code and msg or mail you (God knows how... Quite a lot of people have asked in XDA and there is no reply to this other than silence)
So if you SIM unlock your phone it is done. All your future updates for the OS would be done via zune and there is no way your handset would get locked again..
Hope everything is clear....
thank you, all is clear now
Successful unlock codes
Hi guys,
Just want to let you know that my Focus finally arrived this Monday, as soon as I got it I sent the IMEI and payed to the ebay guy nckzone, this seller is amazing, in 2 hours he sent me the unlock code to my paypal email address, the code worked just great.
The next day (Tuesday), my girlfriend's HTC Surround arrived and so I proceed to ask him if he also unlocks HTC Surround (this is because we live in Costa Rica and ICE's network is lock because of AT&T's policies), and he told me he can do those as well, so I payed and in 30 minutes he replied with the code. Great service for real...
If somebody needs to buy unlock codes for WP7, I think this guy can. The link of the auction is this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Unlock-Samsung-Focus-i917-Omnia7-Galaxy-Tab-CODE-/140482107888?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20b562d9f0#ht_2581wt_1139

Damn. Man! My Focus will arrive in just a few days. I had to have it shipped. I really hope his magic will work on mine as well. Although I really hate AT&T for forcing Samsung to lockdown on the unlock codes for the US-released Focus. It's not like they're the only Telecom company that matters.
Well, enough trolling. =)) Thanks for the heads up.

[Q] 7932 Update and Unlocked Phones?

Hi everyone,
This morning I received notice on my Rogers Samsung Focus that I'm ready to receive the 7392 update which fixes the certificate bug. My phone is currently unlocked with Nodo and I obviously want to keep it that way.
Has anyone with an unlocked phone already completed the 7392 update, and if so is your device still unlocked after. I'm concerned that Microsoft may have snuck in something that would disable the unlock many of us have applied to our phones.
I have 7392 on HTC 7 PRO,phone is still unlocked.

I didn't get it until I synced my phone with my PC through Zune.
And yes my phone is still unlocked.
Well I guess it'll be a while before alot of people see this update, after all =/ But it's good to hear that the update doesn't mess with our unlock mojo =D

htc trophy unlocking/tethering

i for the life of me cannot figure out how to unlock my htc trophy and get the tethering to work...i have read through many threads on the forums and tried several different unlocking techniques and i believe that i have come to the conclusion that i cannot interop-unlock my device because its not a developer-unlocked device..i just dont know how to tell..anyway i have downloaded the windows phone developer tools in attempt to try to deploy usbmodeswitch.xap file to my phone and it says to make sure my device is developer unlocked..i have no clue how to tell if it is developer unlocked and i have failed at all attempts to unlock my device..all i would like to do is be able to tether my phone to my laptop..any help is greatly appreciated i think that i am just missing something... my device is an HTC Trophy on verizon network and i have upgraded to os: mango 7720...maybe its not possible to unlock my device?
Right now there is only one way to developer unlock the VZW Trophy and that is to sign-up and pay to be a developer ($99/yr unless you are a student). The other method was Chevron Labs tokens but they are sold out and no news if they will ever have anymore.
You can't go back to pre-nodo and use the old Chevron unlock as the VZW trophy never had 7004. Sorry...
P.S. There isn't even any custom ROMs for this phone AFAIK.
Don't want to hijack the question but I have an dev-unlocked Trophy with Mango v1 drivers. I want to update these to v2 as they will preserve the Interop unlock (which I have) AND enable me to get Internet Sharing. Can anyone help?
Has anyone successfully put android on this handset? Also, if i have Verizon unlock the SIM card for international use... can i use a GSM sim card from the US and have it work? I know it would not use the 3g but it hopefully would be like an unlocked iphone on tmobile edge i assume.
I have a verizon trophy, student dev unlock and also interop unlocked. I would love to have tethering!!
For htc mozart I use tethering and has a super
Agreed for tethering
I'm also a VZW Trophy user and have even updated to the 8107 version, but would still love ICS/IS Any way I can modify the registry to enable it or use a european rom to enable it? I'm sorry if what I'm asking isn't making sense, I've been reading about it for a while, but don't know that much
I have the same problem as you. I have used the Chevron Unlock, and succeded at the interop unlock and still cannot deploy the usbmodeswitch.xap.
DFT is working on the freedom for the Spark_W A.K.A Trophy CDMA. Untill then it's almost impossible to get internet sharing on our phone because Verizon failed to realease any updates since 7720. I'm also holding my breath for a fully unlocked ROM.
anyone help me unlock my trophy verizon..?
@Kevin_lee0417: You are providing absolutely no useful info for us to help you. You're spamming the forum. You show no signs of having read the threads that are posted or updated daily or more on the subject of what unlocks are available and how to get them. If you continue this behavior, you may get blocked from posting.
AppHub dev account is "expensive" ($99/year), though there's a free student variant as well. Those are the only official unlocks currently available. Custom ROMs typically have every lock that people can code thrown into them. Custom ROMs for the Verizon trophy are currently being tested, and will probably reach official release soon (possibly within a week, though nobody is making any promises). You could also find people looking for testers and volunteer, though if your "bug reports" on other threads here are typical of the degree of info you provide, you won't make a very good tester.
I picked up an HTC Radar at the Windows Store last night. With the Smoked by Windows Phone, I traded in my HD2 (so long old friend!). Along all the gobbledeegook the salesperson said, I think she said this thing was an unlocked phone. There's definitely not part of a new contract.
Well if that's true, how can I tell? I just confirmed it has internet sharing available. I'm tethered right now!
If it is an unlocked HTC Radar on T-Mobile, would anyone care? I already ordered my Razr Maxx and on Tuesday will no longer need this phone.

and what does this have to do with the HTC Trophy tethering ?
Everyone should just wait for DFT's rom as it will have tethering with it. THere is no way to enable it besides the rom.
Sorry if it seems unrelated, but I don't know this phone and the XDA ecosystem around it. It's not like the HD2 and I thought it significant that I have an HTC Radar that is able to tether.
There.
HTC Radar. Tethering.
I did nothing to the phone, so what I am asking is what/where can I look at a setting or whatever showing root/unlocked status.
Thats all.
Thanks in advance.

Downgrade to Pie options?

I just recently a few days upgraded my phone from an older Samsung to a Pixel 3 XL., and I am on sprint.
And while still getting used to the Pixel vs Samsung, today I let the phone take the update to Android 10, and not really feeling the love and want to go back to Pie if I can. Already miss having the back button moved to the right side and a few other things.
I did buy the phone used, online, and is not under any lease etc. I do own it.
But unfortunately, I believe because it was probably a Sprint phone originally, OEM Unlock under the developer options is greyed out. I think this means I am currently SOL until there is a way to unlock it?
Thanks,
PT

Contact Sprint, give them the IMEI number, they will look up the phone to verify that there is no balance on it and then they will send you an unlock code. Or at least I know AT&T used to do that bank when I had Samsung phones. AT&T had a link you could go to and do it, but I'm not sure about Sprint.

I actually called them last night There tech support guy although rather nice seemed to not understand what I wanted. And after he got help was telling me I need to call google for it, which makes no sense to me.
In reading today here, it mentions Sprint will unlock a phone after 50 days on their network. But I think this is just referring to a Sim/Carrier unlock and not the OEM unlock ability?
https://www.sprint.com/en/legal/unlocking-your-sprint-device.html
EDIT......
How very strange, and perhaps my phone call last night got elevated. I just received a notification on my phone that is has been carrier unlocked and can not enable OEM Unlock. So I hope tonight to reinstall Pie.
ptmuldoon,
So effectively, are you saying that your previously Sprint (sim) locked phone is now (sim) unlocked, BUT that the OEM Unlock option is STILL greyed out?
Based on my reading, I've seen some folks mention that once the phone is (sim) unlocked, you should be able to OEM unlock the bootloader as well. And maybe that isn't necessarily saying that the OEM unlock option will become available, but that you can fastboot unlock bootloader. I'm not sure, but just confirming with you since you seem to be in that situation. Have you not been able to unlock the bootloader?
Thanks,

Oneplus 7 Pro T-Mobile Network Lock

Hi everybody,
It's great to finally "participate" after having found so many helpful posts.
As so many other people, I was fooled into buying a Oneplus 7 Pro, which I was told, was SIM unlocked.
Once I got the phone and inserted my SIM, a message popped up saying it is network locked to T-Mobile.
Here's what I've tried:
- T-Mobile Device Unlock app did not work.
(Some kind of error message)
- Flashed international
- Flashed T-Mobile again
- Flashed DP3
- Unlocked bootloader
Nothing works!
One of those websites that charges to unlock phones what's to charge me 90 euros for this, but I know how trustworthy that is. It's a lot of money.
With so many ways to unlock phones now a days, I'm surprised no one has been able to crack this thing.
Could it be just a question of time?
I'm sure someone will soon find a way, or if there already is a way, but I haven't found it, could someone please share a tutorial or a link, something please?
Sorry about this being my first post, but this is, hopefully just the beginning.
Thanks to all.
Yesterday I tried something else, from a video on YouTube for the modem/SIM unlock for the 6T.
Going through the command prompt in Windows and using the "fastboot erase modemst1" it did not work on the 7 Pro.
Any ideas as to how to get this command working on the 7 Pro?
Thanks
I have the same problem. I payed someone on ebay to unlock it but they refunded me as they were not able to unlock it.
Would be nice to find a solution .

They can't do it, got refunded. Neither does removing modemst1 and st2 partitions
Thanks for adding to that
At least now I know not to try those sites.
Sooner or later, there must be some way to crack these things.
Wouldn't it be possible to just make it think it's a GM1910 or a GM1913?
Completely replace the entire software from scratch.
It might be possible because the hardware is all the same...........? Right?
I am in the same situation. They couldn't unlock my phone and made a refund (ebay).
I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the international version.
I made a backup of my efs by TWRP.
Then I erase the efs areas (modemst1, modemst2, fsg, fsc) by using the QFIL program, but it did not work.
I found a comment on 4pda forum that efs data is recovered from the "/dev/block/by-name/oem_dycnvbk" section.
I made a backup of this section by using "dd if=/dev/block/by-name/oem_dycnvbk of=/sdcard/oem_dycnvbk.img" and then I cleaned it up with QFIL as well.
After that, my IMEIs became 0, but the phone also does not want to receive the network.
I will try something else, if you have any ideas - write.
One solution would be if someone would dump their partitions, particularly a phone that has been locked on Tmo and now is unlocked, then compare to see what's changed..
The only way to currently SIM unlock the T-Mobile version, is with the T-Mobile Unlock app that is a part of the T-Mobile firmware. To be eligible for a permanent unlock, you must meet all of T-Mobile's requirements for the device unlock.

I think I'm going to hold on to the phone for a little longer to see if someone comes up with a solution.
Once November comes around I'll put it up for sale on ebay. Maybe someone from the US will buy it to use it on T-Mobile.
How about reprogramming the T-Mobile Unlock APP in a way that it will issue an unlock code locally with a PC and not through the T-Mobile servers.
Is this a possibility?
Is there a disgruntled T-Mobile employee who wants to help???
I'm not a programmer, so I don't know what the heck I'm talking about or if this is even possible, but if one of the developers were to get their hands on the full Unlock APP code (or whatever it's called) then wouldn't it be possible to reverse engineer it and have it create an unlock code for the phone without having to go through T-Mobile?
Similar to cracking a game downloaded from torrents, there's usually a crack attached to it that tells your PC it's a retail version.
Any ideas?
i have been working on unlocking mine as well,i have a few theories on how it can be done. the only way is with the t-mobile unlock app. so i started there, i logged all the data that is sent to and from the server with wireshark and dont know were to go from there. The SSL is encrypted or i could see the important parts. also im thinking if they only use the imei to unlock then if it is changed to one that has already been unlocked then the app should work as normal and unlock it.and then just change imei back. i have also tried finding a modem from a gm1917 that is unlocked to just flash it over ours. i think i have tried every possible way.even payed sites. got my money back from cellunlocker.net and now unlock-panda.com is working on it. also had a hacker on Instagram working on it with no luck. he said the server kicked it back saying it was encrypted . i got mine off of ebay it is still tried to a account and has over due bill. Even tried T-mobile twitter and they wouldn't take my money to activate a new account .
That's great headway with the IMEI idea and using the app to record all info going back and forth. Too bad it didn't work.
Does anyone have any other ideas? What partitions to delete/wipe...modemst1-2 won't do anything...
I figured out the writing part and can change on oneplus 7 pro. With free software lol. Now just trying to get the numbers summited to the server and to see if it will work

Ok. Is there anyone with a unlocked oneplus 7 pro tmobile that can donate a lil time to the community. I need a copy of NV-items back up. I can send the programs and how to do it.If we have somthing to compare with maybe we can come up with a unlock for everyone.
Doesn't Swappa sell T-Mobile op7 pro that are unlocked?
