(Q) About SIMs and AT&T's policies - General Questions and Answers

Ok, so hopefully someone can answer my question about this...
Right now, I have an AT&T Galaxy SII. Tommorow is my last day to restock and get a new phone. I want to import a Galaxy Note from Europe, the cheapest and in stock I've found was $800. So... tommorow I was planning on restocking my Galaxy SII for an Iphone 4s <----- for a higher retail price when I sell it.
My questions are...
If I do buy a Galaxy Note, will I keep my Grandfathered Data Plan with AT&T even if I don't swap out the SIM and take it to the store for a SIM?
The Iphone 4s is gonna be a pain in the ass because of it's damn micro SIM, so if I take the Note to my AT&T store, will they try to force a new plan on me or will I just be able to request a new SIM.
What if I don't restock my GSII for the Iphone 4s and lose about $50 retail... when buying the Skyrocket. Will I just be able to swap the SIMs and add the modem?
Any help will be much appreciated. I really want that note!

Bump... Really need this answered

When you get the note you will just have to put your sim in and add the apn. No plan change will be involved.

AT&T doesn't sell prepaid data plans for non-contract phones?

I am a USA visitor, am in Washington now. I was in the AT&T store today, was going to buy Captivate off contract and buy AT&T sim with data plan only and use until the end of this summer and then waiting for unlock to use in Russia, but AT&T guys said that they don't sell prepaid sim card with data plans for non-contract PDA phones which is Captivate for $500. I find it absolutely crazy, why then they sell smartphones off contract in this way? For whom? If this phone is full prices when buying it without contract, it is locked with AT&T and it's not even possible to use the internet with an AT&T sim. Well, does T-mobile provide data plans when buying prepaid sim card? Should I wait for unlock and then buy this phone and then connect to T-mobile until this summer? And, well, it's possible for unlock not to arrive so soon
And I heard that there is a Captivate coming to Rogers in the 20th of August, is there any info if it'll come off contract and unlocked(able)? And in this case it is possible for Rogers to send this phone to the New York's hotel, for example?
for data plan only say you have a ipad they will give you a prepaid data plan and you can use it by adjusting some settings
i just got the $20 100MB data plan to use in my captivate. the gophone sim and data work fine.
Don't get the captivate. ATT won't have unlock codes available for a long time.

Yep that's what I was going to suggest. That's your best option. Buy a go phone sim card. Tell them you want the 100mb worth of data and that's it. Pop it into the phone and you will be good to go.
100 mb is probably not enough for me, is it possible to get more with this go plan?
and about captivate, if Rogers starts selling it soon, this phone won't be exclusive and I think there is a great chance to get an unlock code in september for example
If a buy a data plan for iPad, will they give me a micro sim or normal sim? Will it work with captivate for sure?

yes... spend $20 more and get 200MB Also, you can get a sim adaptor if you recieve a micro sim. If you go the ore-paid route, make sure you get the sim from a retail store and not from a gophone kit. I did this and had to get them to swap the sim (for free) to one that works in my new phone. Hope this helps!

You could get the T-Mobile Vibrant at full price (supports Euro 3G on the 2100mhz band for when you go back to Europe, needs unlocking though) and sign up for the Even More Plus Smartphone Unlimited Web & E-mail, no contract, $39.99. Should work.

I hate the look of Samsung Vibrant...
Captivate is far better
Is it possible for Rogers to send phone outside Canada? In USA or Russia?
From everything I've seen, they won't ship outside of Canada. Though if you or a friend can go yo Canada, they will sell you one.
Another option is to find someone in Canada willing to buy and ship the phone.
Sent from my Samsung Captivate.
ok, I'll wait 2 weeks in this case and then decide what and when to buy
100 mb data plan suks
hope rogers' captivate will be easy unlockable

How would i go about trading my Verizon GS3 for a T-mobile GS3?

Does anyone know how i could possibly get this done? I've had my phone flashed to page plus with 3g and its working okay, but i would like to switch to another carrier and still have 3g speeds
You could try Craigslist. Just make sure you do your trade with somebody at the store and make sure the ESN is clean and you trust the person.
I've currently got my GS3 on there and have had a handful of responses. Unfortunately nobody wanting to trade for the DNA that I'm after.
I traded from T-Mobile S3 to Verizon S3. It wasn't a "trade" per say. I sold my TMo S3 on craigslist, and used the money to buy a Verizon S3 an hour later.
I too am looking to get a DNA. I need that unlocked 3G GSM feature while I travel overseas next month.
I did this going from Sprint to Verizon on Craigslist. Should have no problem, just make sure the ESN is clean. I believe Verizon has a website that you can use the verify the ESN...

[Q] Anyone work for T-Mobile or have in depth understanding of their policies?

I have what I think may be a complicated question which I can't seem to find the answer to regarding T-Mobile's promo with paying your previous carrier's Early Termination Fee. I'm thinking of switching from Verizon to T-Mobile and currently have a Galaxy S4. I understand in order to qualify for the promotional phone prices you need to trade-in your old device.
Here's the Question of the day...
Before switching over to T-Mobile, can I just swap/activate my (Verizon) Samsung Galaxy S4 with my old (Verizon) Samsung Stratosphere, so THAT'S the phone they take from me? Because I would love to keep my Galaxy S4 to sell or even for just play!
So, in other words...
Does the phone you trade in to T-Mobile NEED to be the exact same model that you had when starting/renewing your most recent 2 year contract with Verizon you think?

I recently made the switch from Verizon to T-Mobile (best decision I've made in my life). I didn't do the ETF promotion, since I made the switch the day after my contract was over and was bringing my own device. I don't remember exactly what was involved, but I remember that they needed access to my Verizon account info (not just my phone number). I remember having to go to VZW's website on my phone, looking for a previous bill that had my full account number on it, so they could put it in their computer and port everything over to their service.
Seeing as how the Stratosphere is 4 years old, and they'll have at least some access to your account information, I really doubt that they'll take your old phone instead of your S4. I can't say for certain, obviously, but I really, really doubt it. I would venture to guess that when you grant them at least some access to your account, they can also see what phone you're on contract with. While the way to "sway/activate" your device is simply swap which phone your SIM card is in, I think they'll still know that you're on contract for the S4, and not the 4 year old Stratosphere.
FWIW, paying the ETF fees for Verizon might be better than simply turning over your S4, but that depends on how much you have left on your contract. If it costs, say, $250 to break your contract, and your phone is in good condition, it might be prudent to pay the ETF and sell the phone after making the switch. But I don't think you'll be able to pull one over on T-Mobile and give them your dinosaur phone. Either you'll have to finish your contract or pay the ETF to keep your phone, or you'll have to turn in in to T-Mobile to have them pay the ETF.
I happily stuck it to "Big Red" when I switched. I needed a warranty replacement on my Droid Razr Maxx (the battery was about to explode). So I went to the store, but the entire country was out, so they had to send me a Razr Maxx HD instead. The day I received the replacement was the day my contract was up, so I switched to T-Mobile, sent back my Razr Maxx, and sold the Maxx HD on eBay for $275. Speeds and coverage in Tucson with T-Mo is better than Verizon, it's cheaper, and I have UNLIMITED EVERYTYING. Best decision of my life.

cant decide

retail or contract
Verizon full retail $900 for the 128gb s6 edge
Verizon two-year contract $500 (after $50 mail-in rebate)
is the $400 difference worth the contract?
id be doing the payment plan if i do the $900 ($37.49 a month)
chances are ill prbly want the S7 next year.
FYI, please note the sticky posted in General:
DO NOT post questions In the General Section
Wrong section,
But it all depends on your current plan. Is it the same as the one you'll changing to? If so, get the 2 year contract.
Is the new plan significantly worse than your current plan for the price? Buy it outright.
Can't afford to buy the phone outright and you're planning to switch phones for the next generation?
Don't buy a new phone. You likely don't need it anyway.

once i sell my phone ill pay off the s6, but i wanna wait till after i get the s6 to sell itade of a neither one is worse than the other. im just confused on the point of a 2yr "discount" if its still $550.
ive arldy gone from an s5 to a note 4 and now to the S6 (prbly shouldnt be getting a sammy tho my s5 gave me slow internet and my note 4 is rly laggy) heres hoping sammy gives me a phone that works.

I own an spring Galaxy s5 and I want to upgrade to the s7 but...

I'm grandfathered into a sprint unlimited plan which is no credit check meaning no contract and I only pay $50 a month and the thing is I went to the store to see if I can upgrade but they said I can but I'd have to get a new account and pay wayy more since the promotion I have is no longer available, now my question is can I buy an s7 and unlock it and put my s5 sim card into this s7? Does it even work that way? Because I also was considering on buying flagship killer but idk how that works, like when the phone arrives do I just put my sprint sim into it? Thanks in advance!
