i think that the Gtalk is popular mostly in the USA, but for example here in Mexico its like 1 of each 10 or even 1 of each 20 that use Gtalk.. Why?
well because google doesnt mention it much, or google doesnt pay the attention to it as google should...
Gtalk is a great app, and it is the native, built-in "Blackberry Messenger" for Android, but as Google doesnt support Gtalk, not much people use it (atleast here in mexico where all people use "live messenger")
i think if we "the android users" make a request to google to make them see that google talk is a great instant message app like whatsapp, BMM, iMesagge, ChatOn, etc... they could work on it and make it much better, with those things i suggested above (send photos, videos, make groups to chat, archives, etc...)
i know this may be a noob thread but i know more than 1 think the same as me
so what do you think guys? is my request possible?

They've not cracked the video calling yet but I recommend Parlingo for Yahoo chat.
Also supports everyone else (except Skype, only nimbuz includes them)

I have always liked IM+ it seems to handle all my needs with chatting, and again no video is with it, like most others out there...
But it handles all these AIM, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, Google Talk, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter, I think they just added Skype as well.
The best thing about this company is that they have always honored their free upgrades, and Ive switched phones 4 times and they were very supportive with giving me new reg codes.
Only flaw is that it is not free, like the above mentioned Parlingo.

IM+ has big problems with YM... I use OZIM found on the TMOUS apps sticky and its excellent...
Use fring. it offers chat, audio and video calls on all IMs.
Hi, i am no dev, sorry if this is the wrong section, but i realized that inside of Android 2.2 sdk or something there is the new C2DM Service. Even Google says that it could work very well for instant messages like this:
C2DM makes no guarantees about delivery or the order of messages. So, for example, while you might use this feature to tell an instant messaging application that the user has new messages, you probably would not use it to pass the actual messages.

i searched for an app, which uses C2DM for instant messaging for serveral IM networks like icq, msn etc, but didnt found anything... all the messengers like ebuddy, meebo etc don't use this new push notification which should save a lot of battery, if the device gets pushed about new messages and only than the devices download the message from the server
what do you think about it?

Hopefully this new service will solve all the issues we have with the current crop of instant messengers and their frequent disconnection. This is one feature I miss from my old iPhone
i guess most developers of messaging apps are already working hard to incorporate c2dm into their clients. since froyo is still verry young and there is only one device yet that is officially running it, the use for this would have been verry smale yet. but im sure in a few weeks we will have lots of messaging apps using this feature.

new Google Talk in FroYo already uses C2DM, other messengers are likely to follow in several months as more phones get FroYo
How is life going? Froyo is about 6 months old, 36 % running Froyo, and the only C2DM-using apps I know are Whatsapp, Jumpnote and Chrome To Phone. I know Google is holding several C2DM presentations.
I'm still missing a IM-app, soccer scores app and so on. Are there any developers working on this? Or is it hard to obtain acces for Google C2DM?

I used Whatsapp and personally like it better, but I like Kik's ability to tell you when it is sent\delivered\read while Whatsapp just tells you if its sent\delivered. I don't need group chat so that's a moot point for myself
PingChat has group chat, shows when send/read, can send pics, video, audio, contacts, maps. And it's free.

I'm currently using pingchat for these reasons. That and Kik was draining the battery on my Incredible :-/
Couple of gripes I have with KiK and had to get rid of it. From my limited use (2-3 days), I learned:
-you cannot log out of KiK.
-it automatically adds contacts without your approval and worse, it lets these contacts know you've signed on to KiK as well. I dont know about others but I dont necessarily want IM access to everyone in my contact list.
-it adds people that you dont even know (saw ppl on my list that I dont know) to your contact list.
-You can get random requests from ppl you dont know to add you just the same.
It seems like a very good beginning efforts but more control and privacy measures need to be put into before I'll try it again.
And, lastly, it was draining my battery ...
These are all from personal use and observation.

Although I don't use allo, I've been following the developments to see what Google plans to do with such a flop so soon. All the comments about fragmentation of video chat, IM, and SMS, etc, instead of amalgamation got me to thinking. Why haven't they unified everything in one app yet? I mean everything... Phone, SMS, rcs, im, video, and of course email/calendar. There has been no shortage of requests for this and it's one of the things blackberry did so well. Why not fill the demand the consumer has been asking for?
Or a better question might be, will it ever come?

But I will be in the USA, and it seems like people just use the default messaging app that comes on their phone (wtf???). And iPhones are bundled with a built in modern messaging app, but one that is locked down to only iPhone users, and falls back to the really old SMS/MMS (not RCS) when messaging non-iPhones, which would lead to iPhone users being annoyed from messaging non-iPhones (do they even support stuff like group chats, messages longer than a tweet, sending videos, location, etc? i guess not or not fully).
Ironically this makes it seem like having a feature phone would still be useful in that country.

In order to use imessage on Android I heard u have to have a mac if u don't than their is no way to use imessage on Android
I have a gaming windows 10 pc so I'm out of luck plus why would I buy a mac just for imessage I like windows better for me windows 10 Is better but it's just up to u whatever u prefer
You can have a macOS virtual machine, though. But how much effort one would put to it would depend on how important it is in American society to have iMessage
