Dunno if this is just my A2, but whenever I try to make a stock email account shortcut to Launcher Pro's dock, the shortcut appears on the homescreen instead of the dock o.o
It sometimes even says that the homescreen crashed and I need to force close it (which doesn't do anything)
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
Could anybody try this out (it takes like a minute if you have a stock email account) and see if they get the same results? Reboot and reinstall don't seem to fix the problem, and I haven't read about anything similar =/
Didn't want to make another thread just for this questions:
What is the best size of wallpapers for the A2? I remember reading somewhere it's 1080 x 960, just want to make sure~
Thanks~
Ive been looking at launchers to get just posted a thread to but I think the Launcher doesnt work for the gmail app on 2.3.5 not sure if thats the one ur using tho
I have been using my gmail in the dock with zero problems using launcher pro. What email app are you trying to install. I see a icon for both the gmail and a email in my dock options?

The gmail app works fine, but the stock email app doesn't. I have 2 accounts on my stock email, and I want them both on the dock. I try to add a shortcut to my stock email accounts, but the shortcuts end up going on the homescreen for some reason =/
See if this will help you, long press on the dock icon that you want to change, should result in a option to change shortcut, choose that, select shortcut, choose applications, then choose your email app of choice, then you can either use the default icon or the launcher pro icon in the dock. Hopefully that will help you.

choose custom short cut, activities, expand messaging and select the launcher for the email account
---------- Post added at 12:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:15 AM ----------
ok, i see what you problem is, lol
that's weird, it just keeps popping on the homescreen instead of the dock.
the best i can get to work with LP is to have a link to the universal inbox, which will show messages and emails from all accounts.
to get that, long press the dock icon where you want the link, change shortcut, select activities, scroll down until you see 2 entries for "universal inbox", click the second entry and select the activity com.motorola.blur.messaging.universal.UniversalInboxActivity
then you can select an icon.
there has to be an activity associated with each individual box though, i just can't find it. you can build a custom LP activity though if you know what the activity for each inbox is.

oh so I see it wasen't just my phone that was doing this lol
Yea, I was going to
Change Shortcut -> Email -> Choose account
and the shortcut would pop up on the homescreen =/
hm, maybe the name of the activity will be similar to the Universal Inbox, except it has some part to it to identify which account to go to?
If you have your email accounts set up with the stock email app on the phone you can create a shortcut on the dock with the method I described and it will work. Hope you get it figured out

Instead of

try

Thats when this weird "bug" occurs =/

Wait, is this occuring with the regular dock as well? I only tried it with the Launcher Pro dock, so dunno if you can dock stock email accounts on the original dock..
If you CAN dock them on the original dock, wouldn't I have to contact the devs of Launcher Pro?

Check the market for it. It's all kinds of awesome. Ignore the fact that the market description is in Chinese, it's very cool.
Been using Youlou since upgrading to 2.1 a few weeks ago. I must say it's a really slick address book.
this is way faster then stock froyo address book ...just missing option to create shortcut for direct dialer
looks good. i think i will try this one
How can I use this app as default dialer? I need it because I want to see the counter for missed calls?
I love this app too. The widget shows missed calls BTW the widget is awesome.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
It's frustrating, this app.
It's rad, the UI looks awesome. It pretends to be so functional... But it's so far from it.
No * or # key, really? I get that it's chinese, but come on. How many users have to request it in the comments before you just add the damn things?
I don't want to have to add a widget to homescreen. There isn't room for it. Make the app fully functional without it (aka show missed calls).
Doesn't sync with facebook.
Doesn't thread together contacts (like say if you had a regular phone and a google voice phone already in your contacts... in the default I can just thread the two together, in Youlu I have to delete one and then add the other to the contact manually)
Pictures are sometimes there for my favs, sometimes not. I even re add a picture or change the picture. It sometimes takes the app opening closing like 5 times before it appears, and then it can leave just as easily.
After all that I'm still struggling to remove it from my phone, but being realistic, this thing isn't a dialer. It's just not. It's a cool UI that pretends to be one, while missing a half a dozen key components.
Sometimes I wonder if the stock dialer was something that was actually ****ty, and then the current stock dialer came out with a hip name and was third party, how crazy would people go for that? It has everything.

I have no choice but to completely agree irish22022 it's a very nice looking UI and I enjoyed it quite a lot until I was trying to get in touch with customer service (*611) or check the balance on my phone (#BAL) it's extremely frustrating to be missing these two key digits, almost a showstopper however I keep using it hoping they will eventually add what we need. As far as for only allowing one account that doesn't bother me so much because I have all of my contacts backed up to one Google account which only made sense to me, so that doesn't bother me so much. However the * and # issue really needs to be corrected.

you can open the sms client in the app drawer that appears after installation, go to settings, and disable everything.
It's still ridiculous that they install that on your computer along with the address book. Should definitely be a seperate app.
Just update is now acceptinf # &*
It has been the fastest smart dialer for me-even faster than dialer one. I would still like it if you could search within the call log and/or the contact list as well.

are you at least in the sms client? it looks nothing like the phone book. If it's not in your app drawer, open up the dialer, go to contacts, click on a contact, and click the envelope rather then the dialer (if you don't see the envelope, then go to settings and look for the option to include a text shortcut for your contacts). This defaults to youlu's sms client. From there, hit the menu button, click settings and disable notifications.
You can't uninstall the sms app, but you can silence it so you don't know it's there. And you also can't change the default sms app within youlu phone book, it will always open up their sms app.

since upgrading to gingerbread, when i turn phone to landscape in email, the folder list remains on the left side and the email i'm reading is on the right. With Froyo, the folder list was not there, providing full landscape for the email itself. what, if anything, am i doing wrong?
do you use the Gmail app or the regular Email app? I use Gmail and I get full landscape.

That's just how the email app works in GB.

I've noticed a bug in the Gmail app in that if you go in to landscape mode before opening an email, it doesn't observe the setting to disable the top context menu to get a near full-screen effect. If you back out of the email, go in to vertical mode and open the email and *then* go in to landscape mode, it works.
Is that what you're referring to?
when you are in the email app. hit the menu button. then go to acct settings and the very last setting should say split view mode and just uncheck that and it will hide the email list and only show the current one you are looking at.
Hope this helped

Anyone who was hoping to be able to use the new launcher (such as myself) will be happy to know that you can! It appears that the option is there in the 4.2 OTA update, it is just hidden from the settings menu. I assume that Asus are probably still working on it and will release it in a future update.
The only modification I made to Droid-Eye's method was to simply use a setting shortcut widget rather than an entire launcher option such as ADW.
I used 'Secure Settings' from Google Play, which is free. Please bear in mind you also need an Ipack for an icon for your shortcut. Luckily Secure Settings has a handy link to download free ones from Google Play when you are setting up your shortcut.
I hope it helps anyone desperte to try out the new launcher style. It seems many people hate the new launcher, and I'll admit that I did myself the first time I saw it. However, it has grown on me and I'm going to give it a run to see if I like it over the old style. I can always change back...for the moment anyway.
Note: There is no need to be rooted or unlocked to do this. You can always change back to previous launcher by setting up another shortcut widget in the new style launcher. Your tablet will need to restart to make the change, that is normal.
Screenshots.
As Droid-Eye correctly pointed out, the home soft button doesn't line up with the app draw button. I haven't found any other bugs yet.

The instructions worked well for me. So far I keep looking for the buttons in the wrong place. But overall the tablet seems snappier with this launcher. I also do like that the notifications shows across the top so you can see a lot more of the text.

I didn't even think about giving this its own thread. Hopefully, more people will consider trying the new layout now instead of just sticking with the status quo. I know not everyone will prefer them but it's always better to have the choice (I mean, this is Android after all).
Thanks for the credit.

Thanks, man. I've been playing around in the activities shortcuts since I first got my brand new (at the time) Moto Droid with 2.0.1(to give you a time frame). I've found all kinds of cool stuff that way and it's nice finding solutions that don't require root once in a while. I highly recommend combing through the system activities if only just to see if there's anything hiding, waiting for a later update. This is how I found Face Unlock before they were ready to give it to us, too (though it took some interesting hoop jumping to get it to actually work). Also how I found the stock android dialer so I could try it wwith different SIP clients (still a work in progress).
Anyway, dig through the activities. Guaranteed you'll find something to play with in there.

Maybe check the tf300 threads (since they're the only other ones with this ability) and see if anyone's found a workaround for it. If it's happening for them too and there isn't a fix, I'm sure GMD will want to know about it so it can be fixed before the rest of the tf700 and tf201 communities run into it. Either way, keep the shortcut handy and you can always toggle back whenever they update the app.

After you have selected to create a widget using secure settings, pick an app, wait, and select settings. Next, you can click the .settings textfield. That will bring up a long list where you have to pick the .settings#launcherSwitchSettingsActivity. (Almost at the end of the list) Save.
Give the shortcut an appropriate name, pick an icon, and save the shortcut.
Just install Nova launcher.

Very nice! Thanks.
Hey all I've been on Android for a little under a year now and if there's one thing I don't like, it's been the e-mail experience. I can't find any mail app outside of the ridiculously priced Maildroid Pro that has what I'm looking for (and I don't even think what I'm looking for is unreasonable!).
Here's what I'm looking for in a mail app:
- Non-ugly icon (I'm looking at you K-9)
- Clean interface
- Support for both Hotmail and GMail with no issues and push notification (Evomail)
- Loads all images in e-mails by default, or at least with the option to turn this feature on (a lot of apps don't)
- Has an informative widget that displays the subject and brief bit of the body in it (SolMail has a useless widget that displays too little info and Evomail has NO widget unbelievably)
I'd be perfectly happy with the default Mail and GMail app (either or) on my Nexus 4 if it wasn't for the fact that neither of them display images automatically, and I have to click on "show all images" all the time. It's annoying. I'm not sure why all this is so difficult, especially when I had no problems with e-mail when I was on iOS. Is there anything anyone can recommend?

It seemed so, until I noticed that my Hotmail doesn't get pushed properly. I need both. Or am I not choosing certain settings correctly?

I am not having issues with my hotmail getting pushed.... It might be something to do with the settings being used.I am using pop3.live.com on port 995.
Don't know if this will help. I think I also had to make a change in the hotmail settings also but can't remember where that was sorry.

When I changed the IMAP server settings to read pop3.live.com, and port 995, it couldn't connect to the server?

You may need to look up the other settings required. I know there are more but that was all I could remember off the top of my head. I don't have my tablet here to check sorry.

SolMail widget improvement idea?
HeyYoWL said:
- Has an informative widget that displays the subject and brief bit of the body in it (SolMail has a useless widget that displays too little info and Evomail has NO widget unbelievably)

Hi, as a SolMail Team, we want to improve the widget for you~ So, what's your opinion of perfect size of widget (with subject and brief bit of the body)? 1x1 or 4x2 is a little bit small, isn't it? Thanks for your opinion!

The default Mail and GMail app's style of widget is all I need. Subject, brief lines of body, done. The lines of the body should be changeable by the user. I actually use 5 rows of icons with Nova Launcher and would prefer 5x4, but as long as it's resizable just like the stock app I'm fine with it.

oops, sorry for late update.
We added resizable and scrollable widget on SolMail.(actually it's 2.0 update on May). It can be extended to the tablet size!
Thank you for your valuable suggestion.
I'm using Cloudmagic now, so far I have liked it. The only downside for you could be that the widget is quite simplistic. Anyway for me it works because I usually use the notification area to peek at new mails.
Oh and is really beautiful.

The Kiosk app isn't a launcher, it's a browser that allows loading apps inside the browser. You can't do what you're trying to do because your device needs an actual working launcher in order to run the Kiosk app, the Kiosk app itself won't run without having the typical android launcher to launch it.

Do you have the option in system settings to choose your default apps? If so, see if you can set it as your default launcher.
What I don't understand is the fact that you're asking about Kiosk but it isn't one of the options in the picture that you posted, it only shows Hexnode and Launcher3.
But as I said originally, as far as I know, Kiosk is NOT a launcher but It can be setup to run on top of your stock launcher, I believe.
Maybe this will help you
https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/android-kiosk-mode-complete-guide/
**Note**
Understand that this is not being set as the default home launcher like would traditionally be done on android, it leaves your stock launcher but sets the Hexnode app to automatically open and run on top of your existing stock launcher. From what I'm understanding about it, technically it isn't being used as default launcher, it's just automatically opening when the device boots and then running on top of your existing launcher, when you press home, it takes you back to your actual launcher with Hexnode still running on top of it.

I'm trying to tell you that you probably can't do it that way, you can only set it to automatically open on top of your launcher at boot, you can't make it the actual home launcher in the ROM, but you can probably come up with some kind of script to put in the ROM that automatically configures your settings and sets it up as described in the link I gave you when you flash the ROM instead of having to physically go through the settings to set it up.
I know what you are wanting to do but you aren't understanding what I'm trying to tell you.
