Hi All,
I have my unlocked SGS4G with a Straight Talk SIM inserted. I can make calls and send/receive texts, but I can't seem to connect to 3G data. By default, the SIM seems to have wap.cingular as the APN. This gives me no data at all. When I switch the APN to att.mvno I can get edge, but no 3G.
There are 2 kickers to this:
1. When I lived in TX I tried the same thing with someone else's straighttalk SIM and I got 3G no problem using the att.mvno APN.
2. When I have the ST SIM in my nokia E71 (also ST) I get fast 3G internet. (But when I pop it in the SGS4G the MAX I can get is edge).
Does anyone have an idea of how I can get the 3G working? I have tried using a few different APN settings with no luck, but at this point I will try just about anything you throw my way!

Those should do it for you.

Thanks for the tip, but those APN settings result in no internet at all. I do have an active T-mobile account to use the SGS4G on currently, but it roams on ATT in my area. So I'm thinking that simple mobile isn't supported here.
Does anyone know the exact APN settings from a current Nokia e71 for straight talk? When I try to access them, the software tells me I don't have permission to view it.
Solved (I Think)
I think I have found why this won't work in my area, but PLEASE correct me if I am wrong!
It looks as if the SGS4G does not support 3G on 850 MHz while the nokia E71 does.
Apparently where I was living in TX, ATT was transmitting 3G over 1900 MHz which I could pick up, but now in NM ATT uses only 850 MHz 3G so I am SOL.
Now I'm assuming that this incompatibility is strictly a hardware issue, hence flashing new modem FWs will not work. Is this right?
Right. This phone doesn't support 3g over 850mz, only 1700/2100 and 1900. Only 2g at 850.
This is a hardware limitation so no ROM can change it.

Hello guys
Any one knows why I get this message not registered on network if I try to make any call whenever I switch to WCDMA only even though I have a signal.
I'm not using AT&T sim card, but I can use it just fine with GSM band.
Thanks
Sounds like network registration failure. Chances are your service doesn't support AT&T 3G/WCDMA bands and when you're trying to force it to WCDMA it won't allow you to register on AT&T's 3G because you don't have their service.
If you're using T-Mobile, for example - you can only register via GSM/EDGE connections as they don't share compatible 3G connections

Sounds not good at all. So because the device is from AT&T I can't use any 3G connection with different carrier other than AT&T
P.s. why do I have a good signal in wcdma connection?
Thanks anyway
Only certain carriers have the WCDMA bands that AT&T uses. AT&T uses 850Mhz and 1900Mhz for WCDMA, so does Rogers in Canada - therefore, if you use Rogers as a service, you can utilize WCDMA no problem.
Now, if you're using T-Mobile here in the U.S. - who uses AWS 1700/2100Mhz for their WCDMA connection - it won't work as it's an entirely different band. There's no fix as this is a hardware limitation until at least AT&T buys T-Mobile officially.
What service are you using anyway? When you say WCDMA signal, what do you mean? Do you have an 'E' by your signal bars or H+?

I'm using Iwireless if you have heard about it they use T-Mobile phones. I mean the signal reception it looks just fine if I switch to the WCDMA band, but can't make any call or use the web and I have H+ by my signal bars.
oh sh** just found out that in their website the use as same as T-Mobile 1700/2100Mhz
Thanks for your help

Hmm, I'd give them a call then, you may just be experiencing a network issue in your area, does it happen outside of a 10 mile radius of where you first noticed it?

Hello,
So i've got this nicely unlocked, shiny, G2x. (Running MIUI right now, please don't judge me) Anyways, I'm in Morocco, and am trying to use Maroc Telecom (IAM) which has 3g data (their site even claims HSPA+) and these are the frequencys they use:
GSM 900 / GSM 1800 / UMTS 2100
And copy pasted from the T-Mobile website, the G2x uses:
Quad band GSM (850/900/1800/1900 MHz), Dual band UMTS (1700/2100 MHZ Bands 1 & 4)
To me that looks compatible. Trouble is, i'm getting no data whatsoever, not even 2g, in an area that I know should have at least 3g. I've signed up for the plan correctly, I'm sure of that. And my G2x automatically picked up the APN settings when I first turned it on (and I verified that they are correct) but still not a hint of internet access. This is driving me crazy!! any hints would be greatly appreciated.
Just guessing, but does it think you're roaming. Maybe try enabling data roaming to see if it recognizes the data then.

It wouldn't be roaming if he bought a sim for that system as he says. Probably APN has a typo or not selected. Have to push radio button so it has a green dot to enable the APN. If that doesn't work then contact carrier to reset data on the account. I have had to do that in the past here in Thailand. Have you also tried turning the phone off and on, or doing airplane mode. Sometimes that is needed once.
Thanks for the responses!
Unfortunately, i've tried and double tried all those things, except getting the carrier to reset the data plan. I'll do that next. Now I just have to get through a bunch of menus in French & Arabic
Are you running Market Enabler. It can screw you up royally if you change sim and it was set to fake at boot. I had that on a Nexus One and had to factory reset the phone to get data working again when I changed sim.
Thanks for the advice. I don't think i'm faking my sim - unless that's something that comes with CM07 and I just don't know about it. Also I tried it on stock before flashing with no different result, so i'm pretty sure that's not it. Went to the office of Maroc Telecom, who replaced my sim (but still no luck) and an INWI sim which i'd previously been able to get 2g coverage on now gives me nothing. It is the weirdest thing and I feel stuck. Has anyone actually gotten a g2x to work on any other network?? is there some sort of Tmobile lock which is preventing me because i'm not using a tmobile sim? (And i'm not talking about the phone being 'locked', obviously i've gotten it unlocked, and can make calls just fine, and did have that short spell of 2g data on INWI) Anyways, i'm about ready to throw this very expensive phone out the window, because what is a smartphone without data?? Thanks anyways for your advice.
same, problem.
How can I solve it?
Maybe try to use other broadband?
I use my G2X in Thailand on TOT3G with no problems. They run 3G on Band 1 (2100/1900). Figure out what band it is. There about fifteen different 3G bands in use. Most people don't realize it but 3G radios use two frequency spectrums at the same time. There is an uplink and downlink. For example 2100 Band 1 uses 2100Mhz downlink and a 1900Mhz uplink. Band 4 is 1700Mhz uplink and 2100Mhz downlink. So the 3G radio in the G2X also transmits on 1900Mhz. But the 1900 Band 2 uses 1800Mhz as an uplink, which the 3G radio in the G2X doesn't support. Most companies that say they are on 2100Mhz are referring to Band 1. If they are running Band 1 the G2X definitely supports it. If you have sim unlocked the phone there is nothing preventing you from getting 3G reception on any carrier in the world.
Download "Network" (https://market.android.com/details?id=de.mangelow.network&feature=search_result) from the Android Market and run it. Scroll down to where it says what type of connection you want and make sure "WCDMA preferred" is selected. If the phone somehow got set to "2G only" you will never get 3G reception until you change it. That happened to me once on a Nexus One and took me a while to figure it out.
CM7 and some other custom roms are known to be having connectivity issues. I suggest you flash back to stock and make sure your apn is correct. If your apn is wrong in any way, the connection will be refused by the cell system.

For the what?
Purchased a Jiayu g2 to play with so far the phone is very nice. It is suppose to work with 850/900/1900/2100mhz wcdma however I cannot get it to work on 3g with att I only get edge and have tried just about every apn setting I can. Does anyone else in the US have this phone working on 3g? I have it rooted. Funny never thought I would say this but it is a very nice phone.

A lot of these Chinese phones state they're quadband GSM, but only have 2100 for 3G. Correct me if I am wrong.
Also, do you accidentally have GSM Only set?

this is the manufactures website and in the product parameters tab it shows 850/900/1900/2100 wcdma 3g and even in the engineermode menu it has them listed. i only paid 160 for it but to be honest it is a real nice phone and i was completely shocked at how well it was constructed. i even have it rooted. if there is anyone else out there that has this phone in the US or anywhere i would be interested to find out what bands you are on.
Take a look at the specshere
It shows 2100MHz for 3G
Don't be fooled by Engineering mode. It may show the options for specific MHz, but if the phone doesn't support it then the options pointless and misleading.

i hear what you are saying. but the fact that the manufacture website shows the bands. i understand that the selling sites are all diff some show 2100 some show 850/2100. but for 160 it was worth a shot.
So no one else in north America has this phone?
Hi,
I have heard that MTK6575 SoC does support 3G on 850MHz/1900MHz. Two things might prevent it from working.
1. Your cellular provider maynot be providing 3G on both 850 and 1900 where you live. It could just be on 1900MHz where you live. Could you go to some other part of the city and test it?
2. I have read that the antennae required for 850/1900MHz is different from 2100MHz. So, even if the SoC supports it, the signal strength is not strong enough to make it work.
I would be very interested in your test results since I am thinking of buying one.

Hi! Did you insert your 3G SIM on the SIM 1 slot? It is the only SIM slot capable of 3G (WCDMA). There are two slots in Jiayu G2 and only SIM 1 will work with 3G. SIM 2 is for GSM only.

u might try and see what the apn setting is
u might have to input the correct apn for your carrier
Is this even possible. To make the phone work on cdma and hspa. or gsm what ever you call it
Yeah if you use a gsm sim card just download phone info app from play store and change the radio to GSM. only voice and text works with this easy method. read the entire thread below to make data work. HSPA+ works on at&t but only edge for t-mobile. most worldwide networks should work with 3G or HSPA but you have to enter in the right APN.

I got it to work on sprint, but call and text only. No data, I couldn't get it to work.

Yeah. The data network is incompatible. Different frequency.

Yeah I think all you can get is 2G (edge) on AT&T with the blaze.
I can say from first hand experience that the blaze works great with AT&T's 3g service. I bought this phone last week, unlocked it, and swapped in the sim from my old Aria and have been using it with CM10 ever since. Data speeds are around 3 to 6 Mb/s down and 1 Mb/s up, and voice and text messaging works fine.
For a more technical answer, AT&T uses the 850 mhz and 1900 mhz frequencies for UMTS (3g), and T-mobile uses 1700 mhz and 2100 mhz frequencies. The blaze supports UMTS on all of these frequencies so there are no technical roadblocks to using this phone with AT&T. http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-S-Blaze-4G_id6824
As for your problem of not getting 3g working, I had similar issues when first switching the sim card (especially on the stock rom). Check that your APN matches the one your old phone was using. On the stock rom, the phone did not auto detect the correct APN and this caused the 3g to not work. CM10 detected the correct APN right away though. Also, try turning data off and on or even rebooting the phone once you've checked your network settings.
I sold my other phone and no longer have it. Please confirm your APN settings, and how do I change them?
The blaze has all the frequencies necessary for it to do HSPA (3G/4G) on AT&T's networks.
You'll likely want to change the APN. On CM9/10, go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks + More... -> Mobile Network Settings -> Access Point Names.
I was careful in selecting this specific phone because of its compatibility with AT&T HSPA bands. I have tried the suggested tweaks to the APN settings within both CM9 and CM10, but I still get no visual notification that the phone is operating in 3G or 4G mode. The areas in which I have used the phone consistently provided 3G and/or 4G coverage consistently with my prior BlackBerry 9860.
Any additional tips/tricks would certainly be appreciated. I know this phone is capable of so much more than it's providing me at this point.
