I run into some "problems" when I've tried to change some fonts. The problem was that for some applications (messaging appl or skype for ex.) the font used for typing messages is not changing.
I've tried FontChanger, even it's advanced option to replace each idividual font, still those applications are displaying a different one.
I've even used QtADB to access /system/fonts folder and saw the fonts there are replaced (checked the timestamp and dimension), I also delete the "fallback" file..nothing changes.
The point is that I use a localised keyboard that uses Eastern European character set (SwiftKey X). Some of those characters are displayed as rectangles or as spaces (even if the receiving party see them if has the right font) and that's anoying.
As messaging appl I use ChompSMS and for that I can change the font within the application. By default the "System" package is used and regardless of the font chosen from there, some chars from the extended set are not displayed even if the font has support for that set. As soon as I choose a different font package, they are displayed ok.
The bad thing is that for Skype I dont have such an option to change the font so I was wondering how can I change it globally.
The switch to "Romanian" from Language & Keyboard settings is not an option for me because it does not change only the font character set but also the language of the phone interface itself. I want to have everything in English, just the characters displayed properly.
I've attached also a print screen to see what I'm talking about. At 1 you can see the letter "t" having a cedille under it (this is how it should look like) and at 2 and 3, the letter it's not shown at all. That means the font cannot display it or does not has support for that character set (Eastern European)
HOW can I make it displaying properly without changing the setting for Language & Keyboard to Romanian?
Any help appreciated

I'm trying to edit the DeskClock app to change the android font for the time and change the music shortcut (when docked) from the default app to mixzing. So far I've been able to successfully change the font (just overwrote the original clockopia.ttf with a renamed tahoma bold ttf) but when I open the regular clock app the time on the bottom gets cut off.
If anyone would be so kind to help, I'm looking to get the font size changed for the time at the bottom of the page and replace the shortcut for the music when docked to mixzing (com.mixzing.basic.apk)
Thank you very much.
For the font size you'll need to change the layout xml... however you might find that the xml using a variable parsed from another function. In that case you'll need to identify the function and change the java code. I've not looked at the app but suspect an xml change will be sufficient.
As for the shortcut, that will almost certainly require java changes... if you don't know how to code this then that might be a little difficult for you... you'll be looking for an assembler file (.smali) for this.
Hi,
I'm using NScollab-1.0.21 on Nexus S with Romanian locale on 2.3.3
I'm having a problem with the lock screen: the date font does not include diacritics and my day names are displayed incorrectly (missing letter "ț").
How can I change this font?
Thanks.
clocktopia
Is cloctopia used for both time and date? I want to change the date font.
AFAIK the date font is just the system font, so just droidsans or w/e it is. i would just pull /system/fonts and poke around to see which one is missing the character.
I half expected the system font to have all the characters. Any replacement suggestions that look similar but have central/eastern european character sets?
¿Is there any possibility to get the text bigger?
I've stock ROM.
Thanks
There are some apps available to change fonts and font size. But I think you'll need root for them...
Sent from my HTC ChaCha with CM9 using XDA app.
You have following options:
1) Install CM9 ROM for HTC ChaCha. Under Settings/System/Font size you can change default font size up to Huge. Huge fonts looks very cool and native on HTC ChaCha. The only exception is System Apps program which has 3 tabs on top "Downloaded", "Runnning" and "All", - and you cannot see tab title "All" because it is out of screen borders (but still selectable on touchscreen).
2) Replace system fonts with larger font. There are fonts which by default are larger comparing to standart DroidSans or Roboto. Also, you can try to scale a font using font development programs (like FontForge). I've tried to enlarge Roboto to 120% of it's standart size. I've applied on my device and it was working, however some characters no longer were properly hinted and aligned and I could not fix that problem with FontForge.
3) Use application or app launcher which can enlarge fonts. Like "Big Fonts" or Go Launcher. I have no experience with these apps.
4) Use application which alters LCD density. This actually will enlarge not only fonts but all the graphics on your screen. I did not tried it, since it causes other problems.
I was able to modify Roboto font by increasing it to 115% using FontCreator app without noticeable aligning/hinting sideeffects.
Font looks ok on CM7.2 ROM, however on few places text overlaps and is cropped from top.
On my phone, I have my font setting to largest (Settings - Display, Advanced, font size, largest).
Unfortunately, I am finding a growing number of apps that do not display correctly with anything other than "Default" font size. The latest example was yesterday; I had to authenticate YouTube on my Roku via my phone app. I could not even see the "continue" button on my phone youtube app until I reduced font size to default, which then made it difficult for me to read the screen. And no, there are no scroll bars to move the screen when this happens. Android itself doesn't seem to detect and adjust apps according to font size.
My request is simple... When you are testing your apps, please consider testing them with font sizes other then "default" to ensure they are able to display properly for those of us that need a larger font size on our phones.
Thank you
Hi, when I use certain ttf files as the system font in Android, I get excessive spacing above and below the text, which makes lines of text widely spaced apart. In addition, text does not align correctly because of the extra space.
Using FontForge, I have adjusted the metrics of the font, such as Em Size, Ascent/Descent, Grid Fitting and Lookups. I have also tried taking a ttf file that displays correctly and copying its properties to my font file and copying all the glyphs of my desired font into it. None of the above solved the issue.
I have attached 2 ttf files of the same font. One displays correctly and the other doesn't. It seems like Android is natively adding space to the top and bottom of certain fonts.
Anyone has any idea what property of the font might be the cause?
