I had the same problem in my house with my ATT U-verse wifi router when a couple friends came over with their iphone and laptops.
I think the U-Verse router has a maximum connexions.
Are you able to connect somewhere else? Have you checked the password for the encrypted WiFi connexion?

I went to school and used their public network but could not get online on my phone at all. On xda, it added something about the scheme https is not supported.
What does this mean and how do i fix it?
They are probably using a proxy. Not much you can do....

If you would have googled it or searched for it here you would have found wireless tether version 3.1 beta 2 which is infastructure mode when you set the settings right.

I dont know about an android feature for it or an app, but if all else fails, you can limit on a good router, but thats for all wifi connections, not just yours.
Droidwall will allow you to tick apps that you dont want to use the internet. You could also use qos in the router if you dont want cut it off completely

Try to use static IP (advanced options when you want to join the WiFi network)
Really hate to ask, but you entered the right password? It's not weak, so it's not avoiding the connection.

I zee two networks with the same ssid. Do they both have the same key? Otherwise it will indeed be picky.
