Do you get to the bootloader screen on your phone? Are you drivers recognized? Check the Windows device manager. Reinstall the drivers and make sure they are correct and recognized. What guide are you following and what version of the phone (see Hardware variants) are you using?

recovery mode and bootloader are 2 different things ...
push volumen+ and power button about 5 seconds , you should go into bootloader
if you were able to get in recovery , you should have been through bootloader
connect to your PC when you are in bootloader , install driver and then type that command
yes, i installed sdk my computer. but still not working.
even i download PDA program for android driver. BUT STILL NO LUCK,.

Weird u should have an Unlocked icon underneath the Google Logo when it reboots but I think it automatically sends you to fastboot mode and at the center in red should say unlocked... u should then opened command prompt and flash recovery. I use the thread I posted. This is what I did from the very beginning.
Cd c:\nexussrootnew (enter)
>fastboot devices (enter)
"Device serial number"
>fastboot OEM unlock
----yes----
"Reboots back into fastboot mode"
Command prompt again:
Cd c:\nexussrootnew (enter)
>fastboot devices
"Device serial number"
>fastboot flash recovery (space)
recovery3101.img
(Flashing device)
"Ok"
"Back to phone"
Enter into recovery and go into mount SD card ... once u mount u will then drag the superuser.zip "provided within the file it asks u to download in link provided in my thread" into root of SDcard ... unmount and go back until u see flash zip from SD ... enter and find the superuser.zip ... that's it your rooted =]

I have the same problem
I have the same problem...
- Phone is stuck on google screen
- Installed all drivers and fastboot recognizes the phone and shows its serial number
- Typing "fastboot oem unlock" in the command promt
- Reach the bootloader unlock screen, select YES
---> The phone is left stuck on the bootloader unlock screen...
Have tried this over and over again, always ends up getting stuck on the bootloader unlock screen...
I have rooted many phones and am knowledgeable on the rest of the process (root/recovery, rom etc...), but I just can't pass this one step which is suppose to be ridiculesly easy.
Any advice?

a buddy of mine bought a nexus s off of craigslist that is constantly force closing when you boot it. it will force close everything then reboot itself. im attempting to unlock the bootloader but adb devices doesnt show the serial number like it does for my nexus s. when i hold down volume up+down and plug in the usb it goes to the unlock bootloader screen but it doesnt give you the option of yes or no. iv posted a picture to show what it looks like. i cant get the phone into download to try to fix it with odin either. any help would be appreciated.
edit: i finally got my pc to recognize it and we now have an unlocked bootloader, but now iv encountered another problem. i downloaded a recovery image and moved it to the tools folder of sdk when i type in the fastboot flash recovery command it responds with error: cannot load recovery.img.
To unlock bootloader, you have to use fastboot, not adb. So the correct command would be fastboot devices
To boot into the bootloader, you have to press volume up + power, not volume up+down and plug in the usb -- that would bring you into the Download Mode instead

i know, i used adb devices to see if my computer would even recognize the phone. i i can get into fastboot mode by pressing volume up and power but cant send a fastboot command to the phone because it doesnt recognize the phone. when i hold down volume up and down to get into download mode it sends me to the screen i showed in the pic. its the unlock bootloader screen except there is no option to click yes to unlock the bootloader. i would love to get into download mode and use odin hence why i pressed vol up and down and plugged in usb, but like i said it sends me to the unlock bootloader screen.

Try one of these recovery images:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686
The full command is
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
(make sure your recovery image file is actually named recovery.img)
If 'fastboot devices' returns your phone's id you can flash a custom recovery. Otherwise get a full _signed_ stock rom and flash from stock recovery.
Did you install all drivers? Deinstall existing and use either pdanet or sdk build in program to get them. You need like 3 different ones.
Try locking unlocking bootloader again.
There's always the chance you got a defective usb connector.

hey so i need to send my nexus s in for repair and i have stock rom and recovery, but every time i try fastboot oem lock it just sits at "waiting for device"
ADB works fine.

What can i do to re lock my phone?
Are you in the bootloader? (Phone off -> Vol. Up + Power -> fastboot oem lock).
Also, does the command "fastboot devices" show your device?
The USB connector socket at the phone might not make a proper contact with the USB plug. Make sure they connect properly. You may try another cable, or have a look at your USB socket and compare it to another. Check out particularly the little horizontal part in the USB socket.
Make sure you're in bootloader/fastboot mode before attempting to connect in fastboot. Fastboot cannot detect your phone, make sure your udev related settings are appropriate. Check on a Linux PC: https://source.android.com/source/initializing.html Configuring USB Access section.
If after this your phone will not be recognized by fastboot, please post the output of the following command (as root), after seconds after connecting the phone in fastboot mode:
Code:
tail /var/log/messages

fastboot does not show my device. I go into bootloader using adb reboot bootloader because my stupid power button wont work, thats why i want to sent it in to get fixed.
If drivers are properly installed this might not be working because the power button is stuck in or something. Not sure what to try to sort it out if that's the case.

Hi, I know this thread is old but I was having the same problem relocking my nexus 4 after installing stock Android 4.4.3 KitKat.
I'm using Nexus Root Toolkit, I don't know what tools you're using to lock your nexus S boblem ut this very easy to use it downloads the drivers and what ever you need to lock, unlock or flash stock and custom roms for any Nexus device.
So my problem was that I would launch OEM Lock on Nexus Root Toolkit and it would detect the device, reboot in Fastboot mode and it would proceed just fine but after saying "Launching TWRP.... something" it would reboot the phone and say to me "Waiting for device" untill it would time out.
I found out that when the program(NEXUS ROOT TOOLKIT) asked me to download a TWRP IMG files, I said no everytime because I didn't think I'd need it. So after trying 5 times, I allowed it to download it and i retryed to OEM Lock it and MAGIC!
Somewhere in the process of Locking the rom it is going to need the TWRP File so allowing the program to download it solved it for me.
I don't know if this will help you or if you still have the same phone, but if you do have use Nexus Root Toolkit and download all it asks and you'll be fine.
Good Luck.

I have the same exact problem.
ADB works fine when the phone is up & running, so I am suspecting a driver compatibility problem when the phone is in "FASTBOOT MODE".
I tried to install the "Universal Naked Driver 0.73 (Compatible with Nexus 5, 4, 7, 10 and S)" but Windows 7 64-bit refuses to pick it up. I use the Device Manager method which shows (when the phone is in "FASTBOOT MODE"):
Code:
"Other Devices
> Android 1.0"
When the phone is up & running, Device Manager shows it as:
Code:
"Android USB Devices
> SAMSUNG Android Composite ADB Interface"
Any idea how to proceed from here?

recheck your typed commands, probably a typo error! follow the steps properly!
Ok to re unlock your bootloader after flashing the token let the phone boot up then enable usb debugging and disable fastboot in the power menu
Then completely power off the phone wait a minute then reboot once you are back on the home screen push power and restart holding volume down when you reboot to bootloader it should now say unlocked again
Sent from my HTC One S using xda premium
Code:
:cd %:h
adb kill-server
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
pause
exit
I had the same issue. I took all the steps again from start. Meaning I requested the the token ID (which differs from the first for me) and this token ID registered this again at htcdev.com. It worked the first time with the new unlock.bin.
Hope this helps.
I had a similar problem, the author of the other thread, I havent worked out the exact problem yet but I think the key here is to not rush the steps and also disconnect the usb cable one you are on the YES/NO choice screen (before you select and phone reboots).

SOLVED thx a lot
Hi,I have T-mobile Htc One S never unlocked, rooted etc. everything is stock on it.
Few days ago it was charging all night then in the morning it was stuck on the boot screen with HTC logo.
Since then it stays there and doesn't want to boot. It`s able to boot the service screen after holding Power button and Volume Down and I tried to do factory reset but nothing helps.
I already have an replacement from T-mobile but I want to get my pictures and contacts from it.
Is there any way to access the phone just to get them?
Thanks!

Hello guys. I just got my N5 and ofc rooted it , unlocked bootloader. Then when I booted it into recovery mode ( CWM recovery) I did factory reset as ussually. Then I realised that all my files on card were deleted os I couldnt even flash CM. I tried to pull off the battery. Right now phone does not want to boot into fasboot mode or normal boot. But it can be seen via pc. Is there any way to fix it? I am sure in 99% that this is a problem of deleted software not hardware. Right now its coneted to pc and the screen is on ( but it does not show anything. just pure black).

good. flash stock images or boot into custom recovery (you can flash it) and sideload a rom or push a rom (see sticky threads in general section)

Connect the phone to the pc and type in cmd: adb devices (should see a serial number), if so type: adb reboot bootloader. Do you get into bootloader mode then? BTW did you format data or data factory reset?

Okay right now I am in fastboot mode and installed sdk manager. In folder sdk/platform-tools I enabled cmd with shift + right click. Run adb devicies and it said "daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037
daemon started successfully
list of devices attached".
And when i run it once again it says only "List of devicies attached".
