Have a great time creating, sharing and developing.
Please review the rules and lets keep XDA the best place for fellowship and development.
Forum Rules
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language:
XDA is a worldwide community. As a result what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.
2.2 Nudity:
XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It's not acceptable to post nude/pornographic imagery, which includes exposure of the male or female genitalia or of female breasts.
2.3 Flaming:
XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions:
XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
2.5 New Members:
Treat new members the way you would have liked to have been treated when you were a new member. Provide the new members with guidance, advice and instruction always with respect and courtesy.
2.6 All members are expected to read and adhere to the XDA rules.
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail what your problem is and what you've tried to solve it.
4. Use the English language.
We understand that with all the different nationalities not everyone speaks English well, but please try. If you're really unable to post in English use an online translator, You're free to include your original message in your own language below the English translation.
5.Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, either pay or find your cracks and serials somewhere else. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained.
7. Do not spam.
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban.
You are however allowed to sell used goods like your own device, parts of your device or accessories for your device in the marketplace forum, please read the rules there before posting. (This rule includes signatures, if you use a signature it will appear in your post)
8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.
11. Don’t post with the intention of selling something.
Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar/substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.
Do not post press releases, announcements, links to trial software, or commercial services. unless you’re posting an exclusive release for XDA-Developers.com.
Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited.
Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration.
Off-site downloads from sites requiring registration are NOT encouraged but may be permitted if the following conditions are met:
A) the site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership who actively maintains XDA-Developers' support thread(s) / posts, related to the download,
B) the site is a relatively small personal website without commercial advertising/links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.)
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.
13. Advertising and Income Generation
Commercial advertising, advertising referral links, pay per click links and other income generating methods are forbidden. Do not use xda-developers as a means to make money.
14. Create only one User Account
You are allowed one User Account at xda-developers. If you create additional accounts, Moderators will disable them and your original account may also be disabled or infracted.

You beat me to it!! I haven't had much time the last two days, but I was going to post the same thing.
Glad to be here guys, as some of you already know from talking with me, and from the above post, feel free to contact us anytime. If there's something that bothers you but you're not sure if you want to do an actual report on it, pm either of us and we will take a look, but please provide a link of the post or thread in question. Although we try, we might not always be able to read every post, so if you want something moved, stickied, cleaned up or w/e send us a pm or you can report the thread/post and we'll take care of it.

@admin: Could you please delete my posts from this thread ?

So since I haven't really talked about myself or introduced myself or anything like that, here goes:
My name's Jim, I live in Illinois. I'm a satellite technician for an exclusive Dish contractor, so I work a lot of hours.
I'm not a fan of political correctness, in fact I despise it, I'm white, not Caucasian, people are not "insert race here"-American, they do not hold dual citizenships, they are just plain Americans, I do not call myself Canadian-American, I'm American, born and raised. I know a lot of you are from other countries so that probably doesn't bother nor affect you much. Just giving you guys an idea of who I am.
I'm an easy going guy that believes is free speech and as such I will generally let a lot of stuff go, unless it gets reported by other members, then my hands are tied and something has to be done.
As far as XDA goes, I'm just another member that loves what XDA is all about, and I'm no different than anyone else here. Other than having the ability to clean up threads and the unfortunate duty (yes I said dooty) of punishing people when they don't follow the rules. I don't like doing that and whenever possible I will give plenty of warning before anything serious. Please feel free to pm me if you ever are unhappy with something I did or didn't do. Mods are not perfect, and we may lock something that shouldn't be locked. If you feel I punished you or locked something that wasn't deserved, please pm me, I will explain my side and we can go from there, like I said I'm easy.
Anyways, thanks for reading, I know it's TLDR

Are u satellite technician...? Oh wow...! I really like to collect every info related to space technology, space science, black hole theories, aliens etc...!

Great to see personality like jim here as a mod.
I am from india and very techie by nature. Somehow I addict to Xda. But I am IT student RIGHT looking for a job.
As you have 3d phone I would like to ask you how is its performance? I am thinking to purchase here but I think its too early to decide , its just 1 generation 3d phone . And I also feel its has a good 2d hardware but at asphalt 3d demo I feel pictures render little slowly. So what do you think in 3d (LG or evo) or S2?
Little off topic: I watched sessybobs at youtube channel, Bro she is a bomb specially that!! Did you know her? And ever had chat or something with her.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk

I should rephrase that I guess. I work for a company that installs and repairs Dish Network service. So I guess I'm more of a dumb installer, lol.
On the 3D, I think the phone is great, the 3D it self is a gimmick and I never use it myself. It does work pretty good, I'm just not that into the 3D thing. I bought the phone for the performance and bigger screen that it offered over my EVO Shift. As far as performance, it's the fastest phone I've owned and other than a little issue here and there from roms, I haven't had anything to complain about.
And about SassiBoB. If only, lol, wow. She has a lucky man, that's all I'll say there.

Well I guess I should formally introduce myself too.
I love android and all the open-sourceness it stands for. I'm 32, married with 3 kids, and I drive a tugboat for a living. Been on the water for about 12 years now. I'm currently working as captain, with ambitions of being a (ship) pilot someday. Here's my tugboat:
I'm a nice guy, but don't cross me.
Glad to be here and making this the best spot to find info and help for your SL i9003.

[REF][Sticky][Must See][First Time XDA][4" Across][Deepest Blacks][Hardest Glass]
Introduction:
As the thread title implies, the purpose of this thread is to create a more comprehensive guide for newcomers and old friends alike. I'm sure everyone is getting sick of flaming noobs and being flamed, but more importantly, I am sick of the huge waste of time we all spend re-answering questions, or just plain looking up threads to point someone in the right direction. I certainly know I could be using my time in a better way. Before posting in the forum you MUST complete the required XDA101 courseware. I will try to keep things light hearted, while still preparing you for the jungle out there. I am adding more elective courses in the future...guiding you through your pubescent journey from total noob to full fledged productive member of the human race. If you only have 5 minutes before your wife beats you over the head for working 8 hours at a computer, then coming home and sitting at the computer, you can skim and just read the bold text.
XDA101:
Lesson 1: What is XDA?
As implied by the name this is technically a Developers forum/community. Now what does that mean? Well first off it means that there is an expectation that if you are here then you want to a) customize your device and b) rather than just installing something that someone packaged you want to understand how it works and maybe even enhance it yourself. XDA was created long before the prevalence of mass market smartphones and as such many of the members are developers and have been here since back in the days when PDA phones were not embraced by the general public because of the expense and complexity. Now we have a flood of new users who are asking not "How can I do this myself" but more like "Give me the quick fix" without caring to understand the process. See if you read the threads then you get to experience the learning process, you see how the issues were investigated and confirmed. Then you get to watch the different attempts at resolution and learn why some failed while others worked. That is called Development.
The noob backlash is coming from users who have walked in the development shoes and is directed mainly at those who don't care for the journey but just want the end result or destination. As a Development Forum we are just as much (if not more) about the journey. I've read so many comments like "I don't have time to read all of the threads" or "I don't care how it works, just that it does". These very statements are contrary to the heart & soul of XDA-Devs and that is why the backlash is so strong. Let me be very clear on this: IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE JOURNEY THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
XDA-Devs is about developers & hackers helping each other and working together to get the most out of our devices by understanding them better than most. XDA-Devs is not about helping everyone who wants a "Kewl bit of kit" make their phone better than the guy next to him. Now do we go kicking users off who never contribute anything, NO. We tolerate it to an extent. Where the toleration ends is when these users start diluting the usefulness of the forum by repeating the same questions over and over again. There are many friendly developer here that spend a considerable amount of time and energy doling out their knowledge and skills for the betterment of the community...for free at that! Technical consultants regularly charge $100-$200/h for the kind of expert support provided in these forums. If you had to spend $20 (12 minutes of support time) every time you posted to this forum, I guarantee there would be a lot less repeat questions and useless threads. You ask us to understand your position. Well if you want to benefit from our experience and time, then I think it is only fair that you understand our position.
Lesson 2: Rules and Regulations
Before posting you must know and abide by the Rules. Failure to do so could result in a temporary/permanent ban...or in rare occasions castration. Following these rules will create a much happier forum and build strong bones...
#1: Search before posting
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news. Since there are many many Epic 4g users and you are just now reading this thread, it is highly unlikely that you are the first person to have experience whatever issue/question/thought you may be wanting to post on the forum. Any member who posts an unnecessary thread, or threads which have already been posted before will be warned, and his/her thread will be closed immediately. Repeated offenders will be castrated. If a neutered member commits a third offense, they will likely be shunned.
#2: Member conduct
Language: XDA is a worldwide community.
No Nudity: XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It's not acceptable to post nude/pornographic imagery, which includes exposure of the male or female genitalia or of female breasts.
No Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior. Flaming while nude is even worse.
No Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
#3: Do not post warez
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, either pay or find your cracks and serials somewhere else. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained.
#4: Do not spam
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban. You are however allowed to sell used goods like your own device, parts of your device or accessories for your device in the marketplace forum, please read the rules there before posting. (This rule includes signatures, if you use a signature it will appear in your post.)
Lesson 3: Searching
So you've made it to lesson 3. You've spent 10 minutes reading this, and you are still waiting for the interracial midget porn link Bing promised. You have two choices...you can either go back to Google or use XDA's in-forum search.
1) Use XDA's internal search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
Or click here...

Thank you.. seriously thank you so much for this...
This will be a winner and I might actually be the the first to respond to a topic on this thread haha.
So, I'm not totally nooby, but exactly where I can go to learn absolutely everything about Android (and Ubuntu because Android is based heavily on Ubuntu)? Literally everything. I want to be able to look at a file in the kernel and say, "Hey, I know what that does!" I've been hanging out in the IRC chat, but I'm not learning too much technical detail. I understand how different systems of OSes work, but I'd like to know as much technical detail as I possibly can, right down to the firmware of the parts I'm looking at.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: Shabbypengiun rendered that first line defunct. LOL.

Baby-steps. We need to get the epic forum working smoothly, but I plan on adding a lot more info soon. I think a big topic of interest is using the wiki for references and guides.
This is great and thank you for taking your time to educate.
I'm willing to help and teach others my tricks of the trade but I will not hold your hands. Same goes for alot of other devs. Me personally I spend a couple hours a day on xda trying to help out as much as I can buy it became very repetative to point I'm in s transitanial state of leaving.
It is just sad that I had to make a thread dating my final good byes and no people are finally working towards a change. lets get this **** organized and it would be a better experience for everyone

I feel the same way. I'm more than happy to point people in the right direction, but part of learning how to ride a bike is taking off the training wheels. I do feel like it is the moderators and experienced developers that should be held responsible for giving people the tools they need to to be successful, and making it a good experience. As much as I want to post RTFM and GIYF to pretty much 99% of the posts on here because I know that I could have found it with a clever search query, not everybody has that experience, and people are coming from a lot of different skill levels. If the experienced members don't at least make a token effort to set people up to succeed, then we are just making it hard/frustrating on everyone, including ourselves.
ok, i just flashed lesson 3, and now my bluetooth vibrator won't pair. any suggestions?
seriously, though, thanks. this will be a good resource.
this is awesome. For me the best way for me to search is Google. I ask my question then put xda at the end. Always works. Working on starting my development skills. Its a long road but I'm ready. Again thanks for writing this. I don't do dev work but it gets old for me seeing the same thing again and again.

I agree with everything you said, other than it being the responsibility of the mods to give people the tools they need...
Don't own an Epic, don't live in a continent where you can buy or use one... But I can do things like perma-stickying a link to the wiki in general and dev, so it will sit above all other stickies for all time... Just added that today.
We need to encourage more people to use the wiki. This guide is really good, but ultimately might form a good part of a "new user guide" in there for the Epic. Someone can make a new page, and link to it from the Epic page, and we're half way there... If there's a good guide, make it into wiki markup and shove it in there.
Experienced developers might help a bit, but the ball is in your court, as in the users... I remember before I started to dev, writing guides on how to do various things. The best hero guides were written by someone who is neither a mod or dev. That same guide is the one recommended over a year after it was first written (updated of course)
If someone makes a new page for new users of the Epic in the wiki, let me know and I'll change my redirect links to go to it.

Or you can use the search box next to "search by device and manufacturer". It just does a "site:xda-developers.com QUERY" pretty much. It's a good resource too, as mentioned in the OP, and I think it can search the wiki too iirc (it can btw)
Excellent. Let's see how this helps the noob problems, and then maybe just maybe I'll come back someday...

Thanks for this thoughtful course. I agree it should be mandatory. I would love to see the respect restored and noise reduced...
Excellent effort!
My only fear is that there will be people who will jump in right away without reading this. Fundamentally, the reason why there are duplicate threads is because people have short attention spans and are unwilling to spend 5 minutes to search XDA or Google their problems.
We're gonna need a solution for that. I would be willing to contribute a step by step guide for ROM flashing, but it may be subject to the same problem above.

EXCELLENT!!!
Very nicely arranged.
Just one other point, it is the "RESPONSIBILITY" of the reader/owner to complete his 'due diligence' of reading/research.
Note to self, sticky this and copy to glacier forum.

Any new stock ruu's coming out soon?

Im on .9 after being rooted because no matter the kernal/rom combo, my GPS was hosed. Back to stock now and all is right again. Just wondering if there are any new stock ruu's past .9 out, or coming soon?
Thanks
Wrong forum

Really? These are talking about stock ruu's and they are in this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903760
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975888
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995819
They are also threads in which the OP contains a RUU, not someone asking if a new one will be released. If you can't tell the difference then you should reread the forum rules.
I did,...have you?
If not, here they are, and no where can I find that in the Developers Forum must you provide actual RUU's, not just ask about them.
Forum & Marketplace Rules
FORUM RULES
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community.
2.2 Nudity: XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It's not acceptable to post nude/pornographic imagery, which includes exposure of the male or female genitalia or of female breasts.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
2.5 New Members: Treat new members the way you would have liked to have been treated when you were a new member.
5. Post a message only once.

This is not a q&a forum. Those RUU threads you speak of contained the RUU, not someone asking after them. If your not posting a ROM, Root method or MOD, then it doesn't belong in the development section. Put it in general...
Thread reported for closure.

Right, but Im not asking about which battery to use, or why does my TB take bad pics, its about RUU's, I mean close it, move it, whatever the mods want, but its a question I researched, found nothing on, its about RUU's, which are used to develop new ROMs off of...so I figured asking about a ROM, albeit a stock one, should be asked here. Not trying to be a hard ass.
And questions belong in the general forums, not the dev forums. It's a simple concept, these forums are for MODs, Kernels, ROMs, and the like.
I have not seen any new ones. The GPS works fine if you turn on WiFi even if you are not on or near WiFi. Try it and see if it works for you.

I think this thread has to do with dev. He asked about a new ruu that might fix his GPS issue. I also think its sad that all these replies are just flames and no help. To answer your question, I have not heard of any RUU. Have you tried the gps fix in these forums?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Thank you,...yes, I have tried all the gps fixes, wifi on/off, it didnt seem to matter. Im cool with being stock, as my max stable OC was only 1.2ghz, so no big loss there, and now that Juice Defender (Beta) is playing nice with the TB, my battery life seemed to have improved to near UV performance. What Im looking for is hopefully a fix for the garbled sounds from the camcorder. And I will re root again to try out new ROMs again, Im sure, maybe whatever was farking with my GPS will be ironed out by then.
Aaaaaaand moved. Oh well, less exposure to the people who would potentially know the answer, but what can you do. Next time I will link an old RUU in the thread and everybody will be happy.
Message boards arent really a democracy dude. If someone tells you wrong forum, say sorry, and move it.
Why sit here and whine about it only making enemies of people who could potentially help you? Most people also check the general forum.

New Moderator!

Hello folks, my name is conantroutman and I'll be your forum moderator this evening...
Some of you may have noticed that Mr. Clown has been promoted to Senior Moderator, I am here to replace him.
I know I've got some big shoes to fill (pun intended). Clown shoes..... get it?....nevermind.. but I will try to keep on top of things and make sure the forums stay as tidy and organised as possible.
If you have any suggestions on how to improve this little section of XDA then just drop me a PM or leave a post in this thread and I'll see what I can do.
Should you encounter any issues that require moderation then don't hesitate to drop me a PM. Serious issues should be reported using the "Report Post" button at the top right of each post, minor issues (misplaced/duplicate threads, spam etc etc..) should just be reported directly to me via PM.
Enjoy...
Oh yeah, heres a little reminder of the forum rules.......

Re: Disabled U.S Army Veteran Needs You

Re: Disabled U.S Army Veteran Needs You
This is how disabled/able United States Military Veterans are treated not only by their government (not all of them) but by the people who we and our brothers and sisters have not only dedicated/lost/sacrificed our lives, our families wishes hopes and dreams and the list can go on forever.... For something so small as an act of love, "Fighting" For The Greater Good of not only ones nation but for those all over the world, or a simple vision we soldiers and or warrior's, may have. Which is why I posted this where I believed it would be accepted and taken seriously.
I did not mean to offend anyone. Nor did I expect to have my cry for help or rather my voice silenced for something as harmless as another humanbeing asking for help. I really see no difference in what Iv posted to what others have posted as far as help goes. Im not meaning to nor wish this to bring up any painful memories but maybe this must be said.
I will not name drop nor am I disrespecting you in any way. My heart sank when I read what was going on with a fellow XDA, major contributors member of their family. My heart still aches just thinking of it. Donations were appropriate to be asked of by us members/family and in no way demanded. Im going to leave it at that.
Maybe the mods saw the thread created as a joke (which wasn't). Or for whatever reasons Im not aware of just found it unworthy of XDA. Ask Undercover and freskboy what I pm'd them. I asked undercover to pm freakboy what I pm'd him.
JESUS DEATHSTAR look me up on face book.

First off this isn't an American site. It is an international community with members all over the world. The closing of that thread was not in any way disrespectful to members of the American military or their family. That post was in clear violation of the rule below.
