Are there any ROMs we can use with the 4g device? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if there are any ROMs we can use with the 4g upgraded device. Right now I am on moto's HLK75d but I have no writable SD card and no cifs module. I would at least like those two things to make the zoom more functional as I had it with 3g.
Thanks

I have a Verizon 3g/4g Xoom running 3.2.2 HLK75D. I have been using the Tiamat Tachi kernel for a couple of weeks with no problems. I am OC'ed to 1.6GHz and running stable. However, I have been unable to use the Tiamat-xoom-rom Moray.
I have also tried the Electra 1.4.1 kernal. The first time I loaded it it broke my 3g/4g. However, I loaded it a second time after restoring my nandroid backup and it is working great.
As of yet I have not found a ROM that works with 3g/4g.

It is a root only app.
yeah sorry just noticed this is wirelesstether..
I believed it was the stock froyo tether app.
Would be nice if someone tried extracting the Froyo tether app from the Nexus One.

if sprint blocked the one in the evo what makes you think the onefor the nexus one would work? Same program essentially, this program works just fine
the stock android tether doesn't need root.

Hey everyone, the latest WiFi Tether app that was released today is working for all 2.2 Rooted Sense ROMs as far as I know. I'm still running the .3 pre-release and it's working for me. I did not flash any custom kernels, just the plain rooted Froyo/Sense ROM. Limited to TWO connections at this time but it IS WORKING.
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre7.apk
Wonderful, gonna try it out now, tx..
When I checked 30 minuted ago this was not on the list. I downloaded pre-6 and finally got it working. Someone said theirs wouldn't work on pre-7.
Is anyone else experiencing unreliable tethering? I tried a clean install of Fresh Evo 3.1.0.1 with both the stock kernel and with netarchy's 3.7.6c. Using pre7 I can at least get connected with the stock kernel, but I can't stay connected. After a minute or two my connection always drops.
WiFi Tether has been working since pre-5 for me with the custom kernel on this site.

Correct, but until today you had to flash the custom kernel for it to work. Now this works even on the stock kernel.
yea i just tried this with fresh 3.1.0.1 no custom kernel (waiting for 8mp) and it works perfect, infastructure mode too not stupid ad hoc!
your a little late OP i already created a thread about this:

Sense + Froyo + OC Kernel

Can we flash the OC Kernel to this new rom successfully?
Is the OC Kernel's version a downgrade compared to what the new "Gratia" rom has included with it?
I try the 4.0 one on the first release and some apps would restart on me.

My wifi was broken with the OC Kernel, which I'm not sure exactly why because it technically shouldn't be since he included the drivers for our device's wifi adapter.
I'm sadly not using this ROM anymore though, I'm back with the snappier/happier CM6

I used the CM6-RC1 kernel with ATTN1's FR00x ROM and most everything I tried worked fine except the built-in wifi hotspot app (nor did the Google wifi tether app) I OC'd mine to 806 and it seemed to run fine. Normal wifi worked fine.

can you also do wifi - hotspot with this kernal?

Maybe i should just install it, and then see how things run.

wifi hotspot/usb tethering/radio all seem to be working for me on FR006
Am i doing something wrong flashing this kernal? Do i need to set scaling_max_freq?
or is there a way i can set the freq - to use something that works for me?
I just tried flashing it, and it boots up fine, but apps that grow to any sizeable spot in memory just close out - (no force close message even)
ATK and the browser both just close out after a few seconds, although i did get through a quadrant run.
Thanks for the help so far!!!
edit: trying dumfuq's 787 and 768 kernal's

1) I'd do a titanium backup (free version) to save apps and other system data
From Clockworkmod :
2) Nandroid backup your current ROM to be safe
3) Wipe data / factory reset
4) update with FR00x of your choice, moved to your sdcard root
5) update with kernel on your sdcard root from here :
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?9jngudbz5x9u78z
6) reboot
7) Restore apps and select system data from titanium backup after installing from the Market
hope that helps ...
Fixed and broken....

Looks like the OC Kernel supports IPV6 and has a cifs.ko module so it fixes some apps like :
Google Goggles
CIFS Manager
But it also breaks (force closes) some apps that use a API to web resources (i.e. ad banners, browsers, etc) examples are:
Astro File Manager (free version)
Scanner Radio (free version)
YX Player (uses a browser interface)
A workaround would be to turn off Wifi and Mobile which works OK for Astro and only partially cripples xy Player , but renders Scanner Radio
unusable.
Any thoughts for a fix ?

[Q] Is there any hope for a ROM?

I mean now since the sd card slot is working can someone tell me if anyone has been working on a rom?
Not gonna happen until Google releases the HC source code. There are lots of other threads so if you search you might find more details!
The problem is not so much the working sd card (this will help for Clockwork Recovery), but for the rom the HC source is required and that hasn't been released yet.
Once Clock Work is working, will we be able to install Froyo ROMs?
Umm, I guess you could create a Froyo ROM but the question is why would you want to?

I can't imagine wanted to downgrade to Froyo from honeycomb. Everytime I start to get disappointed there is no custom ROM I can't think of why I would want one yet. The Xoom is fast, responsive, and other than the SD card, works great. Built-in host mode support would also be nice.

That is what I mean by wait on the source code of honey comb to be released then they can make roms based off it.

What are you looking for in a ROM? I've only had an android phone for a few days (thunderbolt) but most of the ROMs I see don't really apply to the XOOM. The features seem to be things like:
-debloating
-removing or updating UI layers like sense
-porting stuff from other phones
-custom kernels (already avail. on xoom)
There are certainly some things that can be done without HC source
A custom ROM would be nice that included all the following without having to jump through a bunch of hoops:
Rooted
SD Card Support
USB Host Mode

Something similar to Bugless Beast or Cyanogen. The things you mention are usually part of or included in ROM's.

I just updated to rooted wifi xoom to HC3.1. No issues everything went smoothly. But now i cant overclock to 1.5ghz like i could b4 3.1. Is this something that can be fixxed when new kernels come out? or did we lose this when we update?

They are in the process of making a new kernel just have to give them time.
You did remember that you had to root and install a new kernel before you could overclock right? You may have rooted 3.1 but you have not installed a new kernel yet since there isn't one.
Yea I remember. Sorry I'm still new to the whole rooting process, been an android supporter since the beginning, G1 still on of my favorite phones lol. but I'm learning and trying to stay up to date and in the know about my device. Thanks for your help

Multi-Boot different ROMs. Boot Manager Pro Compatibility list.

[ MyTouch 4G Slide - Boot Manager Pro Compatibility ]
I'm not affiliated with Init 2 Winit Apps in any way. I'm just an average user aiming to help the community.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Boot Manager Pro is an application that allows you to boot different ROMs easily (the App claims in can handle unlimited slots, as long as your SD Card supports it ). Kinda like Dual Booting Linux and Windows, two different operating systems on one computer. Boot Manager Pro is like that, you set up your default ROM through recovery and then you "Install" ROMs on separate slots, and then you boot them with a simple tap. This is perfect for Flashaholics and anyone who simply desires to test a ROM, no need to be constantly backing up and restoring different ROMs from nandroids.
This App is NOT free, you can get it from the Android Market for $2.99 [as of Feb 25, 2012]
Over the past few days I've been playing with this app, trying to get ROMs running on it. Some MyTouch 4G Slide ROMs are compatible with Boot Manager Pro, others aren't. This thread aims to list what ROMs work, and what ROMs don't work with this app. If you've tried any additional ROMs, please add a comment and let us know! Also! I recommend plenty of storage space. Each ROM would take about 1.9 GB off your SD Card. I recommend a 16GB Class 6 or 10 card. Whatever suits you best!
This App was developed by Init 2 Winit Apps. Credits and a Screen shot are attached.
Working ROMs
Pyr'o'Ice ICS Desensed 1.1.1
Pyr-o-Ice Sense 1.1.0
Virtuous Unity 2.39.0 ROM (I wasn't able to install it from ZIP, instead I had to install it from recovery, run a nandroid backup, and then restore the nandroid to a ROM Slot on Boot Manager Pro. This ROM has the original stock Doubleshot Camera)
TBalden's CM9 OpenSensation Port
Rubix ICS 5.3 (thanks dung8604)
Wildchild IcE v0.1 ALPHA (AOKP/CM9)
ICS Virtuous ROMs should work (not tested)
Click to collapse
NON-Working ROMs
MIUI (tbalden was able to get it working by unplugging the USB, removing the battery, and rebooting constantly until it worked - if it works for someone else, please confirm)
CM7
Virtuous Infinity (thanks NovaxxBite)
Hopefully we can find a reason why these ROMs don't work. It can perhaps be the version/kernel of the Phone's ROM, who knows!
If anyone can get one of these ROMs working by Flashing them as the phone ROM from recovery, making a nandroid, and restoring the nandroid to a separate slot, please let us know!
Click to collapse
If anyone has tried any other ROMs, please let us know! Also, messing with the Boot Manager Pro settings may enable some ROMs under "Non-Working" to work, I have yet to try it.

I think I have a copy of that ROM sitting on my SD Card, I loved how smooth that ROM was but I started disliking it when it began to be stripped out of it's core functions... Like, when the DS camera was removed. Thanks for the heads up!

Currently on pyr o ice 1.1.1, gonna update soon to 1.1.2. I believe I was able to flash the gallery and camera zip fixes. I plan on using it mainly for tv out, and if I want really good pictures. Day to day, camera ics and/or the sensation camera that came with pyr o ice is good enough.
If you want to keep all that stuff, just use 5.2. There isn't a whole lot of difference between the two.
On another note, I've been trying for like four hours to get miui.us to load in slot 2. Still no go. I have no clue how tbalden got it to load.

I used to have 5.2, well... Whatever, I'll give it a shot later! Pyroice does have a good Camera, but it's missing 1080p recording. I use Pyroice as my daily driver, and if I need to take an HD video I just switch quickly.
I loaded MIUI as my Phone ROM, But I've had no luck getting it on any slot. It gets stuck on the Splash screen. I asked tbalden for advice and he suggested the battery pull technique, I gave
up after 6 boots... Lol!
Same here, I don't know how he got it working. I'm not even all that interested in miui, but not being able to load is is annoying. Boot manager is really flaky sometimes.

I was able to boot CM7 selfkang via BootManager.
one thing i notices is when you first create a slot you have to make sure the screen dosnt go to sleep because if it dose it seems to stop creating the .img files and then they are not in the proper size they should be and that seems to cause issues at least for me i dont know if anyone else experienced this issues.
After the files were created successfully install CM7 in it worked perfectly for me.
Honestly, I've done everything right. This app is beta at best. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
