Problem with connecting my phone to my PC in USB/Harddisk mode (only in some ROMs) - HTC Desire S

Hi out there.
Like mentioned in some threads in dev section i have problem in some ROMs with connecting my phone to my PC in USB/Harddisk mode (but only in some).
When i get connected i see the window where i can choose the mode but when i use USB/Harddisk mode the sdcard is going to be unmounted and nothing happens.
I can see drive letter in my PC but i can't get access.
USB-Debugging is on in every Rom.
The Roms i get no problem:
- All Virtuous Unity Roms
- Shipped Pre-rooted Desire S stock by Adidas108
- RCMix3d 3.5 S v1.2 [Stock & OC Kernel] by proxuser
The Roms where i have the problem:
- VoidU
- All OTA Roms by proxuser, michaelm007
- Hyperion/Endymion
So cause it works sometimes i don't think its a hardware defect.
Maybe it is driver related?
I have installed various HTC Sync versions, AlpharevX fastboot drivers, uninstalled, reinstalled... no changes.
So what drivers do you use?
Other ideas?
Interesting for example michaelm007's Untouched Saga don't work and Pre-rooted stock by Adidas108 works.

I think i have the same problem. Windows 7 just saying unrecognized device. With some roms my phone only charge and with some roms it pop up that is connected to PC and what type of connection i want.

I have no problems with usb connecions
Try to download the lastest htc drivers,
And anyway, there is a program, named Android commando(or something like this,i don t remenber very well)where you can open your phone on the pc also in charging mode, like adb.
With this you can open the android system,so system, data etc.. and the sd card
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App

cant find the program.

[Q] internet passthrough

Hi all,
I have a problem with the internet passthrough, my device dont want to connect in this mode.
Also, th debug mode is activated, but i dont have notification in statubar.
please any solution?
HTC sensation
RCMIX 3.5 v08
thank you
up
no one has solution?!
What host OS do you have installed?
I've been fighting with pass-through myself and here is what I've found out:
1) You have to have installed HTC drivers. This will ensure that HTC Internet Pass-Through Service is installed and running along with network device HTC NDIS ... something;
2) During connection in PassThru mode Internet Pass-Through Service spawns child process which acts as NAT;
3) This NAT process is not working properly in my Windows x64 but it works perfectly on my Windows 32-bit OS;
4) HTC Sync is not necessary for this whole thing to work. I've never used this bloated piece of crap. Drivers clean install only.
First thing to check is whether HTC drivers are correctly installed.
Hope this helps.
thanks OtaruM, i updated drivers, but i always have the same problem.
i had this pb with my old DS with custom rom runnymede, and the developper has fix this by update the rom.
by reading all threads of sensation RCMIX 3.5 v08, no one has this problem.
Excuse my poor english
Well, this can be a problem of ROM.
I am still using stock ROM and pass-thru feature is working for me.
Quite a pity that custom ROM can break such a functionality.
Hi OtaruM, i finally solved my problem, i reinstalled HTC Sync, now internet passthrough works fine.
thanks mate
hi, does MIUI have internet pass through as well?

USB Doesn't work

I have the mobile in s-off and with root permissions, MIUI had installed 2.2.17, and had no problem to connect the mobile to the PC and the mobile ask me if I want to connect as mass storage or just load. Until a few days left to ask me ... Mac thought it would be and the same probe in windows, restart the phone and nothing. I tried to install another ROM the CyanogenMod 7.1 and the problem continued. Now I'm back to the latest version of MIUI I think it's 24 and still have problems. I tried to format the microSD card from android and pc / mac but nothing. To say that from a file browser in android if I see all the files correctly.
I tried installing a version prerooted but the problem continues.

Have you installed the required drivers for your phone? Just install HTC Sync and it will do that for you automatically.
(At least for Windows - I don't have a Mac so i can't comment on that)
I tried with HTC Sync and nothing. I changed the kernel version of a saga tiamat 1.1.5 (before had the kernel 2.6.35.14-cyonagenmod + [email protected] # 1)
............ UP!!
Have you tried to mount as USB disk when in recovery?
Yes. Nothing

A friend once ran into a similar problem. It turned out to be luck had run out on his micro-USB port. A similar problem I once had turned out to be faulty USB ports on my laptop. I'd suggest you look into both scenarios.
*I'm saying it's likely a hardware problem*

If he tried to mount on other computers, with different OS, and still no luck, then yes, I guess it is definitely a HW problem.
@pasteles
Does the phone still charge?
I have the same problem with my TouchPad, no mounting as usb disk at all, when charger is connected the charging symbol comes up, but the current coming through the port is not enough to charge it. So I think the USB port has some faulty pins. In any case, faulty USB.
You can take a chance with the warranty or find someone able to replace the port.
i ran into this problem a few weeks back also and the problem was a faulty usb port and cable........ i changed the cable and reinstalled the drivers and i was back to a working usb

Right, I forgot the part about the faulty USB cable. Most often, it's actually the cable. Then the computer's USB port. Unlikely (and worrisome) is the probability of the micro-USB port of the Desire S having gone bad.

'Connect to PC' issue.

I've been facing this weird issue for past one week.
Whenever I connect my phone to PC, nothing happens(except charging).
The dialog box with options such as disk drive, HTC sync, Internet pass through doesn't appear. I tried different cables and different USB ports but problem is there.
What should I do?
I use Sense4 modded by bulletproof.
PS:Mounted as USB from TWRP and it works. What could be wrong then?
USB isn't fully supported in sense 4 roms. Instead of creating a new thread, yu could find the same in the rom dev thread .
power the droid
Try to use Multi mount sdcard from playstore

[Q] windows doesnt recognize my phone

i have installed ALL THE DRIVERS regarding the phone. . windows doesnt regoniise it.Mass storage doesnt work too.
Yeah... if you've installed all the drivers, that's why it doesn't work. Uninstall them all, reboot, and only install the right one. Which one is that? Depends on what ROM you have loaded.
USB or Bluetooth? Does the connection work for anything else at that port?
Win XP, 7 or 8?
Froyo, GB, ICS or JB? Which exact ROM in each might make a difference too.
After answering those questions, try the search and you'll likely find the answer.

USB .
WINDOWS 8 . Doesnt work in windows 7 too.
ICS cMIUI ROM
The standard rule on our ICS ROMs is that they use the generic Google Android USB driver, not the specific phone or manufacturer driver. If you have Kies or anything else like that installed, you may need to remove it, especially if you've installed its drivers to every USB port.
Additionally, some ROMs just don't have mass storage support. Make sure you test it in recovery before you say it's a problem with the phone. If you pick a ROM that doesn't have support for something, that's your choice, not the phone's fault. After you validate that your phone can talk to the computer in recovery, reboot to system, wait for everything to finish mounting up, and immediately try to mount USB. If it works, great. If not, looks like your ROM doesn't have that support and you'll only be copying files using AirDroid, Samba-something (lots of options/second words), or recovery.

[Q] <solved maybe>Fail to turn on usb mass storage on BB9(or CM10.1)

Hi,guys.I have flashed the bb9 (great rom, thanks) for my ville, and i can turn on USBMS once after flashing, but now i find that it doesn't work anymore.everytime i plug my phone to the computer(win7),it shows the "Turn on USB storage" option, but when i try to do that, just nothing happen, and it turn back to the green one "Turn on USB storage" again after a while,i also found adb can't connect the phone after this,i have to unplug it and plug again for the connection.I have searched a lot for this ,and it seems that not many people have this issue .it also happened on the other CM10.1 based rom,and on CM10 it just worked fine. Here are the details and thanks for your time:
BAKED rom version:baked_ville_bb-9 with 3.0.80 kernel(same issue with BB8)
debugging enabled
"Storage>Menu>Mass storage" enabled
HTCDriver_4.2.0.001(I also tried the old version 3.0.0,it doesn't work)
windows 7
MTP works
HBOOT-2.15(updated to the latest firmware with RUU)
rooted
s-off
unlocked
CWM 6.0.3.1
Found it
This issue seems to be caused by the incompatibility between the app "wechat" (AKA “weixin", released by Chinese software company "tencent") and CM10.1,especially if wechat is running. I uninstalled this app and USBMS works well now。
But I also found the USBMS's transfer speed is very low,it is even lower than MTP's,just got about 2MB/s.why?
