[APP] PetroCanada account balance checker - Android Apps and Games

** This app will only be of interest to users on the PetroCanada network - an MVNO in Canada.**
However, I would like to add support for as many operators as possible, so if anyone on another network (e.g. speakout) can help please let me know. It won't take much of your time, I just need to see what the HTML looks like..
This app will check your account balance. You need a working internet connection, i.e. can browse to pcmobility.com. Instructions:
If you have not already done so, register your account on pcmobilitysite.com/register.aspx
Download apk, install and run
Click on "settings" and enter the info you use to login to pcmobilitysite.com
Click on "check balance" and your current balance should be displayed
Upcoming features:
- Homescreen widget
- Auto update when calls end and sms sent
- Auto update on schedule
- Support for more operators
If you find any bugs please post here. It works for me on on 2.2 and 2.3.5.
Note: even if I knew how to, I have absolutely no interest in harvesting your login info, and can see no advantage in doing so.

Just set this up, thanks. I have PC's unlimited browsing and it works fine. Pay as you Go. THANKS.
Look forward to future features!

Thanks, will download later!
However... I'm on petro Canada's UNL Talk, Text & Data for 50$... soo not much use checking my balance
but great app for those who need to check their balances!

Nice app, works nicely with Petro canada.
Does this use SMS (e.g. *777#), or website to check?
Thanks!

Is this app no longer working??? I have not used it for 3 weeks+ but just installed it again after ROMing my phone. I have entered the correct login info many times but keep getting it cannot retrieve the balance and to re-enter the login. I can login no probs on the PCmobility site, and know my login is correct.
Thanks for any responses.
Is this app finished, as in no more support or development???

[Q] Any simple/no-frills gps tracker which sends data to own website?

Hi,
Does anyone know if there's any GPS Tracking software which can send httppost data (or other form of data transfer) to a custom website?
I want it to send the regular gps data, such as Date/Time, Longitude, Latitude, Height, Speed and Heading (or whatever is available).
I can write my own web software in php/mysql - but I haven't got a clue about how to write my own android app.
I don't want any fancy maps displayed, I just want the software to acquire gps fix, and send it at user set intervals (example every 1 minute) to my own custom web application.
I had previously been using software on my old Nokia 5800 which sent it to a 3rd party server and I could import the data via xml (see here: http://madstu.net/tracker/ ) but I haven't found any such solutions for Android yet.
Any help would be appreciated
Stu.
You could probably do this very simply with one service and an activity to set the interval and some status. You should look at some android tutorials and you can probably do it in less than an hour.
thanks, yes this is what I've been learning. I created a hello world app by following a tutorial, but I'm afraid that might just be my limit!
Sent from my Defy using Tapatalk
You can use Run.gps for your job.
You can customize it to send data to custom server. In section 6.2.1 in the manual explains how you do it.
Regards
Thanks, I've been trying this since this morning and it seems to work on and off, I will continue to trial it though until I find something better/simpler
Never heard of run.gps, but I do this exact thing in Tasker. I am a long time user of TrackMe, a Windows Mobile tracking client, however I didn't really use the client that much but I've made extensive use out of the web server that went along with it. Data goes into it from several possible sources, and I have several things that extra data out of it (Google Earth to visualize, even geotagging photographs, etc).
I have a long outstanding "offline mode" that's missing from its functionality, ie: you don't want to upload, or it fails to upload so it stores the data for later and uploads it when it can. I really want to put this in some day, but it's semi-complicated and honestly editing complex tasks on my phone is tedious Otherwise it's fully functional and for me works great. Let me know if you're interested.
Yes I'd be very interested in this, please.
Like you said, the "offline mode" would be awesome too, I'd previously used Viewranger on my old Nokia 5800 which had this offline option and worked well.
Cheers

Are you using the TrackMe web server? Otherwise, what I have won't be of all that much use.

No, But I have my own server. How is the data sent? I can customise my web software to receive whichever variables are sent.

Fairly straightforward, API calls.. Not really documented anywhere I'm aware of, but here's an example.. But it could be easier to adapt the Tasker profile rather than your softwae?
/trackme/requests.php?a=upload&u=user&p=password&lat=dd.ddddddd&long=dd.ddddddd&do=2011-02-06%2009:10:00&tn=Tripname_Date&sp=0.0&alt=279.0&ang=0&db=8&comments=Optional%20Comments&bs=98
So while it's not difficult, I'd say if you already have a POST/GET type API there, it's probably easier to adapt the Tasker profiles. If you're still interested, I'll export and sanitize and put 'em here.
Yeah I could just edit to match mine. I'm very interested in your sanitized profile(s) though. I've been playing with it and can't get it to work.
Thanks
After some more playing I've done it
Thanks for letting me know about this. Works well and I've got to start automatically when I open up the awesome MM Tracker app

[App] Press Reader: London Evening Standard for FREE

Hi,
I've been using the press display application for a while now, having used up my 7 free papers, I'm now paying as I go £0.79 per paper.
However it really bothered me that I was paying £0.79 for a free paper, the London Evening Standard, which I can pick up a paper copy for free almost anywhere in London.
So I emailed Press display and asked them about it. And the good news is you can read the Standard for free on your Galaxy Tab, or any other press display application, if you just follow this link:
http://standardonline.newspaperdirect.com
You will need to register for a new account, this is not a press reader account, but an account just for the Standard.
Once registered go to your Galaxy Tab, or other device with press display installed.
Start Press Display and select settings.
Select Accounts
Select Authorize
Login with the email address and password registered above
Tap Authorize
If you already have a pressdisplay account it will ask you to select which account you want to authorize pressdisplay or Evening Standard. Select Standard.
From now on when you click on the store Icon it will ask you which account you want to use. For free London Evening Standards select the Evening Standard account.
If like me you want to get this everyday, you can add it once and tick the deliver every issue checkbox.
I hope you find this useful, and i hope I'm not repeating anything someone else has already posted.
Happy reading
Kevin
Hi,
Thanks for that info, looks really useful.
I managed to set everything up but when I use Press Reader i get "couldnt connect to server", have you ever had that message before?
Paul
Hi Paul,
I've only had that error when I've either run out of Time/Data on my O2 contract or if I've roamed onto some Wifi Hotspot that needs authentication.
Otherwise it just downloads fine over the work wifi, or on my Mobile Broadband plan. I try to use the wifi as it's free and I'm not sure how big the papers are.
Hope you manage to get it working.
Cheers
Kevin
Ah ha,
Got it working... I had not enabled my subscription.
All working lovely now thanks,
Paul
Nice one, thanks !
Worth noting: PressReader v1.4+ (formerly PressDisplay) is bundled with Samsung's ReadersHub (the app gets updated via Samsung's own market, but doesn't show-up as an independent app outside of ReadersHub). PressReader v1.3+ is the latest version from the Google Market. As a result, I now have 2 PressReader accounts (which come with free trial newspapers). I'm not a heavy PressReader user, so I can't really tell the difference. Anyway, maybe one of you will
Cheers, Dan

What's available?

My phone is both unlocked and rooted. I couldn't stand the crap. I just froze it since all the apps I want install on the card anyway.
With this leak for Android (which Google is patching) is there any app or ROM that will make password entry required (no saved passwords - I don't save them on the computer, so it's no hardship)
I do have wifi calling, and I will use it over public wifi. I go to places where I get one bar at the most, and the motel has free wifi. I want my pet sitters and house watcher to be able to contact me at any time. My daughter moved to England, so I need Skype, and Skype only works on wifi on Android.
I don't use Picasa, sync the calendar, but I don't want my contacts to be bothered if that is what a hacker has in mind. There is no personal info saved on my phone. I also don't game. I don't watch movies.
Also, I would like a firewall. I have both Bing and Groupon banned in the firewall and in the hosts file. Bing is getting too far ahead of itself. It's allied with Yahoo and I do have a Yahoo mail account.
I use the phone as a PDA reference guide, and the processor speed and screen is why I bought it. I have frozen all the social apps and I might delete them. The phone has been working super since it's been rooted and I enjoy it.
Thanks,
Zuben
I am not sure what you are exactly asking?
You mention password entry? If you are talking about accessing the phone, there is the lockscreen that you can either password enable or choose a pattern to lock the device.
You also mentioned about a firewall? There is webroot security which you can manage things. But, you said that you blocked a few things already? I dont understand.

I want the apps to ask for a password - not the phone. If I use app market I want to log in every time - do not save the password.
Google mail and Tmobile I could stop from automatic sync. I don't want them syncing automatically unless it's a needed function.
Example: I got a list of updates today, and I can't block the ones I don't want.
There's one in the list for Youtube and Youtube is frozen. So is Facebook. So I didn't allow the updates.
So does anyone have a custom ROM or an app that does this? And where do you find info on webroot security?
Unfortunately the SGS4G is still in its early stages of development, there are a couple good roms out there but they are still stock and not custom, however they do improve the performance of the phone. As for what your asking for, no there are no roms that do this yet

Thanks, do you think there will be one?
How far can developers go to get rid of stuff?
I saw this:
http://www.usatoday.com/tech/news/2011-05-09-emergency-alerts_n.htm
and I don't want it. Especially presidential alerts. I would guess that the final version isn't out yet, but I'm curious. I think it would eventually lead to abuse.
I buy my phones for my own reasons and use them in my own way, so I'm not your typical user. I see the phone as a PDA, only voice/text is communication.
The rest is all my required information at my fingertips, and the new screens and processors on the phones are great.

****** CHANGE LOG ********
___________________________
V1.50- November 20th, 2012
* The issues with the block lists have been fixed up. You can add a block for any number 4 digits or greater and it will be found if the transmission ends with those four digits. Example: if your block is 4567 then the phone number 555-123-4567 would be found. so would 34567,234567,123457,...,5551234567
* The GPS module has been rewritten and is MUCH more efficient and accurate at the same time.
* Geo-fencing has been added so now you can define regions on a map and set rules to alert you as to if the phone entered or left those regions during stated days and times.
Keep in mind that this feature is still beta. Try to give extra ~30 feet extra room just to be sure you don't get false positives. This will do a check on every GPS check-in time to see if you have entered or left defined areas. So accuracy is only going to be as accurate as check-in time periods. In general I recommend people don't ever alter the default 15 minutes however.
* The "discreet communications" option didn't make it into this release because of time constraints, but will be available in the next release. Time-estimates will be posted when available.

wonderful, just send an email request to the address on post 1
The first batch should be going out later tonight
Windows Mobile tester, subscribed. Email sent.
This sounds like a GREAT application!
I have a question though... Does your app NEED to have GPS enabled to track down your phone? If it does, what happens if you don't have GPS enabled? Is there a way to enable GPS remotely through the web interface?
Also, does it track the content of the sms messages? Or only the phone number?
Thanks in advance! I'm loving the features on your app already but just wish for a few questions to be answered
The app does not require GPS to be enabled. If no GPS is found, it will triangulate from cell towers. This method is not as accurate however.
I currently do not have a remote "enable gps" command, but I will look into that. It does sound like a great feature to add.
Email sent. Looking forward to a reply.
If people haven't received there downloads yet, check your spam folder.
I've been sending them out via BCC, that way everyone is not getting everyone else's email addresses.
The subject line will be "OVERVI3W - ALPHA TESTING"

Thanks chetstriker! This is the one thing that I feel that the other (2) apps I've tried have been missing. I won't name the apps since this is your thread and all but if you DO find a way to enable gps remotely, I think that you'd be ahead of your competition. Best of luck with your app
On the Atrix it force closes when selecting the enable button after entering my password, i tried several times.
On the Captivate (no sim) I was able to enable admin. I then went to the unfairwair website and "locate" showed the phones exact location. I also tried the "turn on ringer" and was given the responce "false" twice.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll have to take a deeper look at what could cause the Attrix to FC. For the Captivate however, It's normal to see "False" on the transaction tab. All commands have a completed status of False until the command has actually launched on the phone. This could take up to 5 minutes.
You would also have to refresh the web page to see the change of status.
<< important note >>>
The "goodies" tab (the one with all the controls.) runs great on all browsers EXCEPT IE7+
typically if you press commands such as "Lock Phone", "Send Message", "Wipe Phone", etc. they should pop-up commands to ask you for more information or confirmation. Internet Explorer version 7+ has javascript alert command and others disabled by default (unlike every other browser.)
You'll have to use any other browser to use these commands, until I re-write that part.
Just sent an email, looking forward to trying out your application!

[APP] [4.0] Fingerprint ID - Unlock Windows 10 with your devices fingerprint scanner!

How I heard about it and What it does!
So a friend told me he saw this app called fingerprint ID when he was scrolling through a bunch of apps on the playstore or whatnot and he showed me this app called Fingerprint ID. At first I thought it was a fake app that lets you "scan" your fingerprint using your devices lockscreen LOL but turned out it lets you control your PC by using a quick locking feature, lets you log off your pc, shut it down and unlock it with your FINGERPRINT!! This is apparently all done via Wi-Fi. You open the program, enter the credentials that you see on your pc within the app and thats it! This would be helpful for me so that I don't have to lock or sleep my pc and enter my long password, instead I just open the app and scan my fingerprint right before I even get to my PC. On the way to my PC, I could just unlock it! Pretty cool, I'm gonna get this app and let you know what I think of it!
Best part is, this is the first tool for Windows instead Mac!!!!

So I got the app, let me tell you this. Out of 5 stars, I give it 4/5! The only reason why it doesn't receive that last star is because I can't
change the lockscreen color. Others may disagree. It works EXACTLY how I expected! Very handy. I also wish there was a feature that
would automatically lock my PC when I disconnected from the Wi-Fi from my phone, other than that, it works great, amazing UI on Windows
and haven't come across any problems or crashing! And $2.99 for the app seems like a good fit. Mac ID is $3.99 and has pretty much the same
features but the program uses its own custom lockscreen, not bad just wish it used Windows 10 lockscreen and automatically input the password,
but I heard thats impossible on Win 10 because they implemented some sort of security that doesn't let programs run in the background and send
data :/
4 out of 5 for me! Pretty damn fast and cool. Nice to see devs finally making stuff for Windows thats on Mac
I started looking at this, and while it looked wicked cool there are a lot of concerns.
First off for the Windows download/site, there's nothing for contact info except a twitter account.
Megasync is the download place for the client... Pretty fricking odd.
The web site is hosted on a free webhost. www.000webhost.com
That has 1000 MB Disk Space 10000 MB Bandwidth, enough to host the Windows client.
On Google Play
The phone client access stated is
Version 1.0 can access:
Other
full network access
Pretty sure there's more than that. Not willing to pay the 2.99 just to decompile the apk to see if there's more.
Most of the games listed by the Developer are games. Device security is a big leap. Not impossible just odd.
[email protected] is not showing anything under Google+
Nothing strange, just interesting.
Going through the instructions, it installs a web server on your Windows machine. That's why the client is 115 MB download.
Also it says if during setup ----> Now test the connection again. If it fails, go to the Contact Us tab and let us know!
And the only Contact info is a Twitter account ??? There's no support page in their web site except the instructions.
Good find, but I'm going to research a little more.
I'm not an overly paranoid security person, but there's too much that's questionable to try in my opinion.
It could be because the app is new they haven't done much.
But the web site looks to be a simple Wordpress theme, but they could have done a little more. They went that far, it would have not taken that much effort to build out a little more contact info and support info.
I know because I just setup a free web site to test the web host for another project I have.
Again, I'm not knocking the app because I haven't tried it. I'm saying that there is not enough information or complete information for me to install a web server on my Windows machine just to unlock it with my phone with a fingerprint.
Like contact info, support information, complete Android device security access information.
