Wifi chip on sensation? Can you change it? - HTC Sensation

Anyone know how to change the wifi chip on a sensation??
Mine has died, just will not turn on at all, always delivers an error, i'm looking for where it is? So if anyone knows, first hand then let me know please
Thanks.

I don't think you can "change" the wifi chip...
it is integrated into the board/chipset. I think your only choice to replace the whole board.

Reflash the kernel

Software is not the issue m8, believe me i've exhausted every option available, it can only be a hardware issue.
Changing the board would be a pain, how much do you think a new board would be??

Put it back to stock then send it to Htc for a replacement.

Yea i think that's the only way, problem is i got it for free from HTC haha, so it kinda doesn't have a warranty as it was given to me, so i guess we'll just see what they say.
Thanks anyway.

I´ve been reading about the wifi problem,
I have an Sensation 4G , that has a serious wifi problem, it only connects for a cuple of minutes then disconnected.
and other times, the phone restart..
I saw a post , that could be the broadcom chip, that its located in the flex near of the hearphones socket.
that chip, it´s an integrated that has internally , the WIFI, Bluetooth, and FM radio.
So , a few guys told that it can be heated and it works again.
So that´s what I´m gonna do..

Are you sure that it is not a problem with the wifi antenna? Maybe the contacts are not being made to the antenna on the back cover.
If it is the chip itself then you are really out of luck.

On Ebay the whole Flex board that has the broadcom chip , its on 25dlls w/ free shipping.
so, first I´m gonna try heating the chip a little bit, if it doesn´t work , then I´ll buy the whole flex board.

Hi,
today I disassembly my sensation
Disconnecting all flex and antenna wires, and then connect and assembly all again.
Now I have my WiFi connection back with full signal and with more than 3hours without any fail.
I didn't know what was the main problem I didn't heat the broadcom chip.
But for now everything is ok

you could try first disconnect and reconnect flex,
if not, then heating the chip, and finally replace the whole flex

maybe a stupid answer, but try a new rear cover first before ripping the phone apart. The antenna contacts on the rear cover are literally just copper conductive paint that wears out easily.
I had wifi issues on mine, and instead of waiting for a new cover to arrive from ebay ( and the fact that no one on ebay sells them with the extra 4G antenna pins) I just went to a local electronics store and bought some of that copper paint. Dabbed a bit on all of the antenna contacts and now all of my radio devices have much better reception.
Worth a shot...

So i openned mine up, just take it apart b4 heating n noticed the metalic cover of bcm ic touching top of a line of resistors solder edge, can this be a defect shorting the board?

Maybe its a defect
I heated the bcm chip and my wifi it's back again ...
I have 2 days with it and no problem..

Absolutely no idea.
Gonna have to send it to Samsung repair. And to prevent the next question no it will not be covered by warrenty. Depending on the closest repair center to you. I have to agree.......Why would you do that?
That means, at now i have a really expensive pda.

Was handed down an Inspire. Wifi is broken, how do I repair it?

Hey guys, I'm new to the Inspire sub-forum.
I was handed down this phone by a friend of mine, (phone only. no box) and it is a bit banged up. Enough so the wifi hardware is failing. (I'm assuming so because it doesn't work.) My question is, how do I go about repairing it? Should I take it to an AT&T store? Also, I have not yet rooted it.
Thanks in advance!
Try to reflash the stock ROM. Look for RUU in the inspire 4g forums.
Or, you can call HTC and see what they say. They might be able to do a warranty swap. Not sure if it'll work since you are not the original owner. Worth a shot though.

Is the battery cover damaged or broken in anyway? WiFi connector is bridged or built in to the battery cover as an external antenna I think ..
Whenever I removed the cover I get no WiFi..and you can see some gold colored contacts

Try bridging those connectors with a piece of coppee or a paper clip. See if it changes.

Then that might be serious internal problem that might require taking the phone apart to see whats broken.
Also, HTC will not honor the warranty cause of the fact that theres physical damage.

Considering the phone will not have warranty, I probably will take it apart later and find out what's going on.
Also, it's time to root and flash a ROM.

Thank you, now I just need the tools!
Also, I managed to connect to my router some how.. perhaps that smack I gave the phone did the trick
There is still an issue though. I just ran speed test and am getting low speeds so I'm not 100% sure it's using my WiFi connection. I'm not familiar with sense at all so can you tell me if data connection in the notification bar disappears when WiFi is connected?

The wifi indicator on the Inspire looks very similar to the iphone wifi indicator.

Easy enough, turn on airplane mode then turn wifi on. Let it connect and then try to browse the internet. That will 100% tell you if the phone is using wifi and not the cell signal.

This could just be extra precaution/I'm not sure if HTC would help you out, but you could ask for another battery cover. I hear on these forums that you can get replacements pretty easily...

HTC Desire S's GPS reciever indoor issue...

I just realized that GPS reciever of desire S is not working when I stay in my room. But Sumsung Galaxy S Advance is working very well in my room. Does anyone know how to improve HTC Desire S's GPS reciever indoor performance ?

i did manage to get a signal immediately right after i installed it from inside my house in front of my pc. Was not able to produce the same result twice(didn't really wait long enuf to test as i dun need gps in my house). But i have to say that this improve my signal lock tremendously.
and i think gps not able to lock on while in a house is not really an issue :cyclops:

Desire S GPS is precise, but weak, and won't work well indoors.

To test ur gps it should be outdoor in an open field, not inside brick wall. Is like testing ur mobile radio in an elevator and asking why can't i receive any reception inside here
But how is it when you are outdoor? Any improvement on the gps-lock?
GPS generally isn´t recommend for indoors, and it doesnt have sense to use GPS indoors.
Have no problem
I have no problem for outdoor It take just 10 seconds to lock.

WTF are you playing at dude?
Why are you re-opening an old thread (From September last year) in the Dev forum just to ask the same damn question you keep asking in here?
You have been told repeatedly that GPS is NOT designed for indoor use. You have confirmed that your GPS works fine outside. What is your problem? If you are indoors then you surely know where you are - it's not as if GPS is going to help you find the toilet, or find your arse
The Dev forum is for Development - not for pointless questions.
So you mean I'm damn... Ok I'm damn but. Why I can get Samsung Gallaxy S Advances work in door perfectly but not Desire S? What make sense to me is If it work in a house or building is benefit of finding and also can provide us a location where we can find each other easy.... Also maybe you can find my ass also.

Because the Desire S has a weak GPS antenna design. Everybody here knows that - it has been discussed to death. The thread you re-opened states that and the reasons for it, along with a possible hardware fix if you want to try a bit of soldering.

[Q] Component missing i9001

Hey guys! I just bought myself an I9001 Galaxy S Plus from someone (second hand)... It's my first smartphone so i think i've been busted.
The phone seemed to work well, and everything was ok. But when I try to use the GPS (without internet connection), it does'n seem to find any server. I've changed some different ROMs with different Kernels, but it still can't reach any server.
I forgot to mention that with some ROMs the signal level is very oscillating...
Today i was looking at the phone and observed that there is a hole just above the battery where some component, like an antenna or something is missing. I don't know what component is that...
I think that the missing component is the one in te next picture. But what is its name and role? Instead of it, at my phone, there's a soildered wire... This trick was made to mask other issues of the phone? (if i replace the missing component the phone might have problems?)
I'll attach the photos, may be you can help me. Thanks!!!

I think it's a Connector coaxial, a micro miniature form of RF coaxial connector. Look at one i marked with an arrow.. You can replace that part from samsung service center
Best of luck.
The details:
Design LOC: RFS100
SEC CODE: 3705-001731
Description: CONNECTOR-COAXIAL
thank you!
but that's the reason why my gps doesn't work?
or that's the reason why the signal level is very oscillating when i'm using some custom ROMs?
do I need it, or i can live without ?

May be. Not sure..
I used to have a i9000B wich is basicaly the same device.
THE GPS signal simply sucks, it was so bad that sometimes it took 2 minutes to lock in open field, with some roms it got better with other even worse.
I used GPS AIDS with that device an app that was developed just to try to solve this particular device problem at that time. look it up, maybe it can help a little bit, but i thing this device will never get a high speed gps lock.
