I'm on the road and don't have a computer with me, is there a way to root without a computer? Does the visionary method work for this device? Just got today....

Not sure on the visionary method... All I have read on the G2x forums pertains to using a computer.
Visionary only pertains to those HTC devices with that nand-protection You'll need a computer to root
Ok I found one to use today after work... Damn we don't have much development support for this phone...

This phone no. But z4root app uaed to work for some phones. And gingerbreak
I made a not to wise choice and bought from a china store. The mini tablet I bought has no app market installed. I have download many "google play store '.apk'" files and they all install, when I open them, they crash RIGHT off the bat! I have done this at least 5-10 times.
If anyone...anyone... can help me, please let me know! Please, please, please.
Thanks a ton for anything,
Thomas

Ok then, make sure its the correct play store for your Android version (GB gapps won't work on ics and vice versa).
And if you have a custom recovery, try flashing Google apps

Rooting methods are different for each device, but you should probably try using superoneclick or unlock root.
(You need drivers installed)

You can check this method but you nead to know if it is the right one for your android virsion first...

where do I find those?
*'dark4m' I am not rooting my K1, I am rooting my 'Pocket Rock' from chinavasion*

GOogle them, superoneclick is a .zip file you must unzip it and open the application, unlock root is an .exe just execute it. They both are one click root programs. Very simple.
And China phone companies don't have many root prevention security (they don't care) so either one of those should work

Ok, the way I understand it is, superoneclick is a file I download on my TABLET? and unloock root is a file I will download on my PC? is that right?
Thanks again! and sorry for being a noob about this, I am trying!
Thomas
Nope, both PC applications. You have to connect your phone and run them.
They are two different applications, so if one doesn't work the other probably will. If neither work let me know

In order for the computer to recognize the device, it needs drivers. They used to come on a disk (way old school) but now they are usually online. Chinese tablets drivers are harder to find, but there has to be one out there. Try googling "<model> drivers"

That's the stock system recovery. Just used for wiping the phone and applying updates (if they ever release any lol). After rooting, its usually changed to a custom recovery for phones that have enough development, which allows way more options. But that's another matter.
If you REALLY cannot find the drivers (I couldn't either, could barely even find the model.) then your only chances are to root with gingerbreak or z4root, but both were meant for Android 2.3 and below. They're applications, so couldn't hurt to try them, but by now there is a very low chance.
SoC and UR both work amazingly well, maybe you could try contacting not the sellers for the drivers but the manufacturer (chinavision?)

What are 'SoC' and 'UR' ? If I root it with one of those, will it become Android 2.3?

Oh sorry for not clarifying, they're just my abbreviations of super one click and unlock root.
Rooting won't change your operating system, its just that methods meant for older versions of Android, like gingerbreak, probably won't work.

The title says it all, I will not have access to a computer for a few days and im wondering if there is a method to get root without using a PC.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure there isn't. Every method(I think there's three different ones) requires either a Windows PC, Linux or Mac.
There is no way to root without a Pc but once you get root you can unlock the bootloader wuth Ez-Unlock from play store. Just get a friends computer and use it to root. I would recommend Linux or Mac and use Adam Outlers Casual tool. Its really easy and simple.
As i figured well guess no root for me for a bit. Hope a PC less root method comes out eventualy.

My suggestion is that you read up on this. You hardly even know what you're asking for.
Before you root any device you should at least know something about it. Just root it won't make it any better without modding, tweaking etc.
You can end up with a brick.
Rooting won't make it faster. Rooting is like unlocking a door to a control room - it doesn't change anything unless you know how to use the controls.
Look in here or Google for how to root your device if you're sure it's the right choice. You can brick it an thereby make it infinitely slower if you're not careful. You will need to do more than just installing some apps that require you to have already rooted for them to work.
Unless you can install CWM (and look into TWRP before doing that) from a usb connects without root, you're not going to be helped by that at all. It won't make your tablet faster, anyway. Look up what it is before trying to install it or anything else.

Ok guys thanks for waking me up out of this bad dream! lol
Well you know i take ur advice, read something about it and then decide.
Is there even a good solution to make it a bit faster?
Cause when i play real racing 3 some tracks lags a bit , while with others
it wont.

R: NEED HELP WITH ROOT please read thanks!
Root is a good idea to make your tablet faster. If you want to overclock cpu or gpu or manage services or pretty much do anything to your phone (which can go from normal system cache cleaning to flashing a different, lighter and faster, version of android to your tablet).
So, yes, if you want to make your tablet really faster (a noticeable change) it would be smart to root it...but you gotta search the web understand what you are gonna do how you are gonna do it also if it works most of the times or its a complete fails. Search the web! U will find out all the risks and advantages to modding your android.
If your want to root it look for it on google, youtube, or here (it's surely already been posted somewhere).
Just use these keywords for your search
'Your tablet name/model' 'android version' root.
Before overclokking or whatsoever, know that exceeding your limits (especially if your device is not high end) can lead you to break your tablet completely. too much modding can lead to fast battery drainage, overheating and possibly meltdown of hardware components
So be careful what you do!

Do you know how to enter recovery mode on your tab?
If you do you can try to download a generic-root-signed.zip
No name tablets usually don't have a private key for files so it might work to root it that way. Otherwise you can try Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry.
There are many ways to try...
