I'm sure many of you are firmilar with evild's work on the n1, mt4g and other highend devices. I happened to flash his 3.0 rom on my wifes mt4g sand got to chatting with him. Hes interested in getting a g2x, so I told him id attempt to orchestrate a collection of funds to buy him a g2x. First things first, what will a no contract g2x cost? What is the cheapest anyone has seen one for sale off contract? Secondly, if anyone has an upgrade they are willing to donate, THAT WOULD BE PHENOMENAL! I'm good for $100 to start things off. If you find one off contract for cheap, please post links! Moderators, please feel free to get involved.

That is why I hate xda bunch of free loading crack flashers that don't help the Dev. community just piss people off and whine for help when they get in trouble....... count me in for 20 bucks

Very good question... I can only assume so, since alot of his work is done with sense ui. I sent him a pm with the link to this thread, so as he reads through it, I'm sure he'll clarify on that.

Yea, I guess I didn't miss it all that much because I went straight from the n1 to the mt4g. So I almost immediately had evil support again lol.

have you been on the internet long? people are people. and you'll find people like that on any forum. i've seen people talking like that online since before the internet was mainstream. it's not only xda. there is no way to stop it. so just get used to it. but, i got your back on voicing your opinion as well. what xda needs is a dislike button. i've seen them on other sites. and after so many dislikes,your post gets hidden and members have to click "show" to see it.

People like you thinking it's ok to use these Roms for free without donating a dime is a FAIL!
These Devs work hard and long hrs. to make these roms for your phone to function and look better!
So a little donation wouldn't hurt for you to give!
Or better yet if you don't, don't bother commenting on it!
Don't look at it as paying for there phone, but rather an advance for work they are going to do for you!
Everyone has a favorite dev. Mine personally is TW.

Your idea is ingenious. I will take it up with a friend whose a mod here and see what he thinks. Not sure it will get too far but you never know.
That is a very good idea. Giving thumbs down to certain posters would warn other readers at this forum. It would also be useful against scammers who steal the Dev's work and pawn the mods as their own begging for donations. There was one on the Samsung Epic forum last year and on the Asus Transformer forum a few weeks ago.

I've been on the internet for awhile... a lot of forums and yes I know there are always negative people... I can be one of them... at times... but I hate how broad the ignorance on this site is..
Tw made there own forum like many other devs. For this same reason....

So I just bought a Slide on eBay, but I wanna go ahead and get things started.
I can do most of the work I think right now before the phone (since it's Sense 3), but I'll need a few brave testers with ADB knowledge and who aren't afraid to flash things.
Somebody help this bro out, he does good work.

It was $340... it said it was refurbished so I jumped on it. That's just around the price range I was looking for, too (extremely hopeful price range).
$400 seems to be the area in which the used ones are selling for...

You know I'm in!
I've been one of the ones to dive in headfirst around here so i'll help as I can.
This week, and next, are gonna be real tight on time for me. I still have a few threads around here I have to update...and just can't get more then a few minutes in front of a terminal at a time.
When I get the chance to update my threads, I can sit here and have the phone installing (or whatever) while I do.
Glad to see another dev jumping into the pool here with the MT4GS - it's a sick piece of hardware.
Your list has made it incredibly easy to list out all the apps (I usually have to go through them one by one and try and figure everything out, usually takes 1-2 hours per phone )
Anyways, I can't test it as I don't have the phone yet but Bloater should be setup for it. At least for the apps and stuff. I'll have to add WiFi calling later.
Test it out and let me know what works and what doesn't. I tried not to include anything I wasn't sure about or anything that could be potentially harmful to remove.
If it doesn't recognize something as installed or uninstalled it just means my MD5s mismatch what it was expecting, easy fix.
Install it as a normal APK
I can new a lab rat if needed as I still haven't committed to this as a dd

It is froyo based but it will never happen, sduvick tried and could not even get it booting it's complicated.

I gave it to my sister because her blackberry broke but i still have access to it.
I like this idea and because of it being froyo wouldn't it be a viable option step back in time to move forward anyone with the ability to do this have the cajones to step up and do this for your fellow forum dweller(s)

We'll see what you could do, I never try but kudos to you for trying. I have seen about 2 or 3 devs try this and they all failed and didn't even get it booting.

I've been doing massive 'net research on rooting my MT4G, and the one site that kept popping up was this one. So, I read the 'what to do..' thread and will discover my chipset and such later (my place of employment is (barely) on a 2G network). I've had my phone for 13 mos now without too many problems, running Go Launcher as opposed to Sense, and the Go sms.
Looks like I have some reading to do here, and hopefully with 13 mos or so with this phone I'll be able to lend some advice back.
One thing that troubles me is that in the last few months, I've noticed an increase in the 'Recovered from an abnormal reset' messages. I haven't read everything yet, but if anyone can lend an idea on this one, I would be most appreciative.

Welcome. Thanks for doing research. I'm not sure what to tell you about the "recovered from abnormal restart" message. A factory reset might be what you need. Ideas anyone?
You're probably right on the factory reset. I've been pondering that one for a while, and have just been a little lazy about it. Then again I might hold off until I'm decided on whether to root or not, which won't take long either.
That's understandable. One thing you may want to do is root, and then use something like Titanium Backup to backup any important program data you have like gamesaves, settings, etc. Remember though that the more you restore, the better chance you have of causing the problem, or even a new one, all over again.
I like this guy. He doesn't ask stupid questions and uses the thanks button.
And take it from someone who did the HTC unlocking update to unlock your bootloader... PLEASE dont go that route.. if you choose to root, do it with the methods here, they are far too simple, something I realized only after i did the HTC official unlocking method. Use this site for everything you do to ur phone..

Thanks for the advice and nice comments! I learned a long time ago when seeking knowledge on a forum such as this, it pays to do a little reading before posting and pay a little respect to those whom assist.
I'm going to follow your advice this weekend, first rooting, then backing up and then the factory reset. I plan on following the guides and resources here to a tee and will let you all know how it goes. Thanks again!

My wife and I both have the "bad" emmc. Both are rooted. Both are over a year old. Both work. Your chance of bricking early is statistically higher. But I wouldn't worry about it. I've rooted 3 MT4G's using gfree. None have had issues.

I have the bad one as well, Ive flashed at least 10 roms in the last couple weeks...but ive always been a risk taker...also, there are others that are more knowledgeable than i am, that believe the "bad chip" is overrated. I don't know either way..

I guess the good news is that I still carry the insurance. If something goes terribly wrong, I could always have the wife back the Camry over it....
Not to mention, if this chip was going to fail, I tend to think it would have already. I worked outside every day last year in an extremely brutal heatwave, streaming music, quick recharging in a hot black truck, etc. I've pushed this thing further than I thought it could go and it hasn't failed yet (save the battery, I had to replace it after the summer).

I also had a Mt4g with the "bad chip" there is some truth to the name. After probably 30 flashes she had enough and just stopped booting. However I am very hard on my phones. So pick a ROM you like and stick with it and you'll be fine.

Hello everyone, I'm Indirect and while most of you have no idea who I am, I was politely asked to come help you all out for development towards downgrade / s-off on your devices. Now, as much as I would LOVE to help, I can only do so much without the actual device. I know this sounds like mooching, annoying, etc that some other "developers" do to try and gain attention but I'm sure you can see that I've made progress in just a few short hours as you can see here So I would like to now ask the community I'm trying to help if they would be willing to help me out as well and have my job be just a bit easier. I own multiple devices that I work on (Evo View 4G tablet, Nook Tablet, Nexus S 4G) and I develop for the evo shift when I can get around to it, but since I am not 18 and unemployed, I can't really go out and just throw down cash for a mytouch. Developing is essentially my career, balance that with school and my life gets hectic. So, if you read on, you will see how much I'm working towards.

I know some stuff about the kernel, but not atm enough to get a custom kernel up and running. Also guys, I seriously only have 1$ to my name, pretty sure it won't be enough. Lol.
This would be fantastic - I was working with this character last night in IRC and he's got the enthusiasm necessary backed up by the knowledge we need to get in our corner of XDA.
People are complaining from time to time about the anemic development here in the MT4GS forums, well, here is a way of increasing that dev.
If people aren't interested or able in picking up the torch themselves to get involved in development, then helping someone like this get a device in their hands will help us all out.
Normally i'm not such a fan of this but this is the real deal - we get a device in his hands and we WILL see more dev around here.
Look at the progress he's already helped us make towards the S-OFF issue - we got past getting the misc.version put in place and unraveled another layer of the issue, now we are stuck on hboot being our block.
Not bad for someone without a physical device in their hands, eh? Imagine what he could help us with not having to work proxy through one of us...
