I am trying to connect my phone to the T-Mobile HSPA. A friend told me I need to find my MSL number (code for my EPSD?) I can't find any guides to accomplishing this with the MT4GS. And when I searched EPSD on XDA it came back with source code forums. So naturally I downloaded the source code anyways hahahaha... I'm download happy.... but anyways, I'm wanting to gain access to my Proxy Settings somehow. Am I on the right track? What do I do?
Seems like you need an unlock aka master subsity lock.

Here's the guide to unlocking your phone.
Method one works on our phone. As I got my msl without calling t mobile now I use both t mobile and at&t

Most guys here done mess with the network settings btw. I dabble with cdma workshop from time to time. Proxies are in settings btw

I started to realize this last night while I was searching. It kind of took me by surprise. That's ok though. I will be sure to add any information I learn and anything I discover that will be of use to US all. Thanks for your help Man!
So I used the link and everything worked perfectly. I unlocked my phone for any carrier. AS FAR as the proxy settings you mentioned. Those are the Wi-Fi Proxy Settings. I'm trying to find out how I access my actual phone. VIA the EPSD I believe. It requires an MMI code like ##3282# or one of that nature. I cannot find it though. Do you have any ideas?

I wrote down all the dial-in codes for the phone that I could get to work, but may not be all of them. Been a while since I looked into that.
When I get home in a few hours i'll look it up for ya, I don't have access to my notes until I hit my home pc. No promises that I have the one you're looking for, but maybe.

Cool beans Man! I appreciate it. I have been searching for hours trying to locate one and I've been tyring all kinds of others that I've come across. Nothing has worked so far... I know it's possible though BECAUSE I have seen some of the screen shots these guys have in their signatures. Some of these guys are downloading between 40 - 500 Mbps and their upload speeds are are ranging from 30 - 200 Mbps with 06 ms pings and sh**!!!! LIKE WOAH!!! I want this! hahaha Or at least I want to know how to gain access so that I can tweak mine and figure it out. You know? Thanks again...

Testing menu is probably the only thing that *may* help you, but maybe not.
Wish I had more to give.
If anyone else knows of any codes that work - mind posting them?
No problem. You may want to try and post in the unlocking forum.
As I said network and sofrware programming are two different ballparks. Both are a challenge though.
Blue if we can find all the network commands that may be useful . I smell a project lol

Sorry I didnt get back to you sooner. I had to take a break from this phone last night. I've taken in SOOOOOO much information in the last few days it's kind of overwhelming. THANK YOU for the codes. I will try that "testing menu" one out here in a moment. I will post anything I discover. It's "back to the grind" I guess lol.
Don't sweat it - sometimes the only way to push on is to walk away from it and give your brain some time to absorb it all.
I know i'm a workaholic and put in a lot of time between two jobs, and pleasing my lady is even more time away from development.
Don't ever feel like you're obligated to do anything, let that pressure wash away. This is something we do for fun, no sense getting stressed out about it. Feeling like you let people down because you actually slept or took a vacation or something isn't cool ... This is the hardest thing for me to come to terms with and so I'm sensitive to seeing it in others, whether they realize it's happening to them or not.
I've donated to devs and explicitly told them to take a night off and go get a dinner out or something - you get yourself all jammed up if you don't take a break once in a while. (Granted, they can do whatever they want with donations, but I can at least set the stage for some down time)
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with using these codes as a starting point, I'm positive there are others...just haven't had the time (and probably won't anytime soon) to sit down and figure them out.
As far as speed tests in sigs, I'm pretty positive they are home internet connections, not through the cell networks. Correct me if I'm wrong, and don't want to prevent you from exploring increasing network speeds (it's been done, though not to a ludacris extent - my up/down speeds over the cell network are faster then they were when I first got the phone)...but also want you to have a realistic goal to work towards.
Given some of the jargon you've used in this thread, you're on the right track for at least some of what you're doing to accomplish your goals - but I won't discount the thought that there's more then one way to do something and am very curious to see if you come up with another way or new approach at making it happen.
Take your time, experiment - as you've been - but above all, have fun!

Thank you for that heartfelt message. I mean that sincerely too. It's nice to know someone is "rooting" for me (pun intended hahaha). I used the testing menu code you sent me to solve HALF of my problem. Using that code I was able to change the Default DNS check to allow for the proxy settings to be set to 0. NOW I just need to find some way to access the phones factory settings for the mobile network. If I can do this I can change the ACTUAL Proxy Settings to 0.
My goal (and please correct me if I am wrong) is to be able to configure my phone to run off multiple networks simultaneously.
I'm thinking if I can set the phone's mobile network proxy to 0.0.0.0 it should designate NO DAFAULT IP Address right????? In doing so I should be able to confugure my phone to run from multiple networks right??? I need HELP!!!! LoL

It is basically like mobile defense (which is also great and free) but it give the option to wipe the phone & the SD card. a few months ago I lost a G1 and I would have love to be able to wipe everything.
I figured it is a must for my Nexus.
Just wanted to put it out there for those who didn't know.
Were you able to log in into their website?
I'm using it, and I'm very impressed. This is a must download app. However, the site is very slow and you often have trouble connecting to it.
Haven't tried logging into their website yet, just downloaded it today. Still at work and no access to that site. I know mobile defense was fairly simple and I figure it shouldn't be much different.
Dled , installed , and tried it out the other day. GPS was off by alot but the other stuff seemed to work.
I've tried it a few times over the past 2 days and am very impressed. The website worked great... no problems connecting for me. Also, the GPS was right on!
I've been using it for about a week and a half now its pretty awesome i think, i had some problems backing up my contacts but got that fixed, other than that it works flawlessly for me.
Ok I see what I did wrong, you have to put +15556667777 (+1 for state side) to log in.
As for tracking, it worked really good for me.. only off by like 7 feet. Had no problems backing up contacts, sms, etc. Works good for me. hopefully i'll never really have to use it but if I do I have trust i'll find my phone in no time.
wow that's pretty nice. free even.

Yep. And When you get the country code or number wrong, they charge it as an international text, which you have to pay for. So be careful when inputting those numbers!
I also found that the app works extremely well, downloaded it the first night I had the phone.
has anyone compared wave secure, mobile defense, or lookout mobile? Do they all do the same thing?
Seems like a pretty good app from using it for a bit. Only problem I have is that the GPS can only be updated 4 times a day. Would seem pretty hard to track someone down if you cant update the position that often.

that is where mobile defense comes in. You can pretty much stream an active location through mobile defense. getting better the longer it stays on.
Un-Installing?
Would the remote wipe and location features work if the "thief" removed the application from their phone?
Doubt it, unless you password your screen so they can't get access to do that. But then they might try a different sim card at which point they will see the screen about returning it. But if this person knows anything about the android system, couldn't they just unlock it, replace the bootloader and format the phone, regardless if its locked or not??
Guess you better hope that last couple GPS locations is his house or work..
How would this work?
Say someone straight up steals my phone, i put it down, turn to grab something, turn back and its gone. ok, GPS... i know where the SOB lives. Then what, call the cops? Wouldn't I need a IMEI and serial to prove its mine? Wouldn't the cops need a search warrant to look in his house to find your phone?? Or should I just bust down his door and beat the crap out of him?
How would it go down to get it back?
Beware of the hidden cost
BTW unless they have changed it but every time you receive a txt from wavesure you will get charged.
I know they have stop it for the US, can't confirm for the rest of the world.

charged by wavesecure or standard sms rates from the carrier?
I believe it is a foreign received txt. you were getting charged like 20 cents.
It was on a forum where wavesecure was participating.
They changed it in the US but I am unsure for the rest of the world.
I will find the forum once I am back home.

Hello, can someone help me with something. I rooted my htc inspire a few months back. I did not change the room just left it as is. I am now trying to tethering my accer a500 to my htc inspire. I have tried the hot spot and also tried to hook cable to tablet from phone. when i try hot spot it turns on then turns off says i need to call att.
I am wondering do i have to flash phone with a differnet rom inorder to use those functions. or is their a way around the issue. Sorry for my lack of knowing lol. i am looking but I have not found a newbie guid covering this. I am asuming i do need to flash phone with custom rom but wanted to make sure.
update
I guess should of added more info. I have rooted my phone a long while back. I did not flash a custom Rom to my phone. I am running the Rom the phone came with just rooted. Thanks again for any help someone will be able to give. I am still reading the fourms just guess not understanding. From what I am getting if I want hot spot to work or tethering to work I need to flash my phone with a custom Rom.
a 30second search of putting 'free tether htc inspire' into google would have given you the answer you need. This has been asked over and over and over. You are technically breaching your agreement and if you get caught that is on you. Here is a link in the market for a simple to use app. Next time please search before making threads.

ok
Lol sorry but you really think I didn't do that like a month ago. Really I have read and re-read every topic even close to covering this topic. One topic saying yes you can the next saying it didn't work. Figured would find someone nice enough to say yes you can do it, and here is the topic area to look. Thank you for the link
Update, followed your link and it went no were. Google free tethering again and came up with the same thing. Someone saying they have a way to make it work. Then a bunch of posts after that with people saying it worked for a bit but not now. I'm just looking to see if it can be done, what has and has not worked and if I am right and I need a custom Rom.
I use EasyTether Pro, don't know if its safe, but I have been using it for almost 2 years on 2 different phones, and haven't been stuck with a higher bill yet

thanks for the info
Was wondering do you guys use the cable, or set up a WiFi way. I don't plan on doing any downloading I use a program that looks up info for me on the net. Maybe some Facebook on the night ****. Once again thanks for the help with this very cool.
I dont have to DD an app to use hotspot because my dev built it in, which most roms do... but if you must stick with your stock rom... (thumbs down)
I used "open garden" wifi tether on a few different phones requiring that functionality. Its one of the best out there IMHO
P.S. If you like the stock feel and stability? of your stock rom, but are ready to open your phone up to a brand new life...
My suggestion for a jump off point(ROM) is 'COREDROID'! I dont rock it anymore, but it was imo the best, next very close runner up would be 'AndroidRevolution'...
Both of those have built in hotspot, plus a WAYYY faster UI than stock. Just My Opinion. good luck!
I have never tried to tether using stock rom, however almost all custom roms I have used have the ability to tether. Maybe try a custom rom, I like IceColdSandwich v 4.2. Good luck!
Thank u very much that was what I was really looking for. I will start looking for custom Rom that might work for me. I really need to learn how to back up the Rom I have so I can save it so I can flash it back to phone if need be. Thanks again all for all the help with this.
Start by looking for a recovery like "cwm recovery"... within the Inspire forums. Follow the directions exactly and read them ALL first, then reread them before flashing. Once youve achieved a recovery, you'll have opened yourself up to try ROMS i.e.Try coredroid for a few days then perform a backup of coredroid, then flash AR and run that for a few days.
As it seems in your OP, youre kinda used to a stock ROM and both of those are based on stock, with enhancements, and bloatware removed... MUCH FASTER and responsive.
So just start with one thing at a time - Recovery Time!!!
p.s. once youve installed your recovery, you should backup your current config before going to the next step - ROM!!! Practice good backup skills, and you'll limit your headaches considerably.
hello, thank you all for your replies. I am really wanting to move up to custom roms. Prob is I do not know how to back up my current rom, and how to check it to make sure its good. I am looking for the info and what app to use to get the best back up file. i want to be sure I know how to back up and also how to go back to the back up if need be before I move forward. If someone knows of a guide to do that stuff or has any good information could you pm me please. thanks a bunch for the help.

I used the EasyTether app a few times around last Christmas. Today I got the email from AT&T about tethering. So I guess now we can't use EasyTether?
I went to my local store yesterday and had a rep examine my phone to be sure there was no way I could tether. She noted it in my account. Today I got a txt msg saying I was tethering. So I called the 866 number in the msg and the phone rep told me they can now tell any time a computer or any other device is plugged into the phone and any time a tethering app is used. So according to her logic, we can't even use our computers to charge our phones.

*I* know that. But she apparently doesn't. She told me that ANY time ANYTHING is plugged into the phone now counts as tethering. Even if NO apps are being used. I know better than to believe that lol.

Sucks for EasyTether and PDANet users
This seems a good place to ask. Of course, the ref with whom I spoke claims that their system is flawless, but is there anyone here who kows AT&Ts systems that can speak as to the reliability of their inspection system?
The reason I ask, I was informed that "the data connection from your phone was opened to another device several times within the past 2 months." I used it once, I'm afraid that something looks like tethering to their system, and I'll end up with a more expensive capped plan rather than my unlimited plan (truth is that I've only gone over 3 GB once of which I'm aware, I just don't like the concept of caps.... or more cost).
I finaly put a custom rom on my phone and was able to hotspot and tether my phone to my laptop. Only used it to load one page of xda just to see if it worked or not. I never got a text meassage or phone call or anything. I also use a bunch of bandwidth on a daily bases. e-mail, web games and such. I had to re-lock my phone sending it to htc to get repaired, when i get it back it will be re rooted and custom rom and tethered again. Will let you know what happens then. lol
They will constantly improve the system. the more people that find ways around it the more they will invest in closing the holes. they didnt used to have the ability to see but more and more is pointing to packet inspection and TTL's on them to see if theres another device behind the phone. it's not just an apn setting anymore. it's best either to not tether and breach contract or just pay the $15 a month and use it. Getting around it now, could change next week or a month or tomorrow. companies will do what they can to protect their services from being taken advantage of, and with the number of users that are stealing tethering data, that is a considerable cost. do i think its fair that i need to pay $15 to connect my pc to phone for just a picture here and there, no, but the consumer always wants everything for free.
Hey I need some advice I have a HTC One V CDMA 4.0.3 rooted none of the OTA patches through Cricket,
Last 2 months 3 or 4 times a week I dial someone's number from my phone book and it will ring like normal but all of a sudden I will start hearing a lady's voice she will say random stuff then she will pause and like usual I will ask who she is and why she is doing this to me she will start laughing and then state "I know you better than you know your self" she will then pause and wait then start talking about things that have gone on in my house that only me my wife and my children know about... I'm really upset and cricket isn't helping me and I am at the point where I am really concerned.
If anyone has any ideas please share I am at wits end and my computer is down so I can't access anything online except for on my phone.
Thanks

When did this start occuring? Was it after you downloaded a specific application? Have you ever left your phone unattended? Since you have a CDMA phone, it is extremely difficult to clone your phone compared to a GSM phone, since you do not have a SIM card in your device. If you can find the suspect app and remove it, it should take care of your problems, however, I would recommend getting a new device since it sounds like your device has already been compromised.
I would contact the authorities immediately. If you're in the US, it's probable the FBI will get involved as that would probably fall under the category of wiretapping, which holds serious federal penalties.
I've never left my phone unattended I always keep it with me even at night I'm disabled and have to be able to get to a phone at all times.
I agree I should get a new handset I was hoping to be able to ride this out until the end of the month.
I've tried contacting local authorities they didn't seem to understand or grasp the concept of what was going on.
As for the app idea I may get try that and see if it does it any more I do have a packet tracer app I might run it and see if it shows any weird activity from certain apps.
If worse comes to worse I'll contact a friend of mine who I went to school with he is a fbi agent and see what he says... I'm a old school hacker of sorts if I had stable wifi and a working pc and could VPN through my pc and run a sniffer the whole time I am sure I would be able to figure this out in a snap.
Thanks for the replies.

Hey there y'all!
I have a messy situation right here, looked for answers all around and coulndn't get a clue anywhere... so I'll try to explain in the clearest way possible my weird issue... (sorry for my English, will try my best to be rightfully understood)
Six days ago, I got this cute Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate SCH-i500, my cousin sent it over from the States down here to Mayan lands of Mexico... I had ZERO knowledge on Android, and in these past six days (including it's sleepless nights, and mostly thanks to this amazing forum with tons of useful resources and really helpful, cooperative people) I just learnt a WHOLE LOT about the marvels of Android devices...
First, I started rooting my SCH-i500 succesfully (yay!), then came the attempt of activation with the only local CDMA Carrier (Iusacell) and the equipment's "Homologation" (that's the term they use here for the programming cellular hospitals and workshops have to do to one's device in order to function properly with the carrier's infrastructure, no need to say this is something a little bit dumb, I consider the carrier should help their customers, specially the new ones, to set-up their data plans... I found out about carriers like Cricket who even help you with a flashing tool, if I'm not misunderstanding, to get your cellphone working with them), well, voice activation was pretty neat, 5 minutes and I had a line... be it a MDN, a MIN and the correct HomeSID for my area, and then came the "hard" part for the newbie... After trying to and succesfully figuring out how to use QPST, and hours of desperate search for faulty info on latinamerica carriers to dump to my Fascinate, I did it, for some reason I changed my ROM to "powerwashed_20_b3_Full_ec09modem.tar" and began working with it, it wasn't until today that I got 1X connection with my carrier, it was awfully slow!! managed my way to get 3G, and I DID! But it was still clumsy, only green arrow sending a lot of data and no orange incoming data to my device... which was desperating because the carrier said "they don't guarantee the phone is going to work being from another country, but I had to try and pay for a pre-paid data plan in order to make my tests... well, I knew something was not going well with the data I was using to fill the required fields in QPST... went back to my stock VZW ROM and went over and over the process of reprogramming my phone's service... I found out that VZW settings were somehow stuck to the phone, and no matter how many times I entered the info, it wasn't changing to my carriers info, I used first QPST 2.7 build 323 to fill up what was needed, uninstalled and then switched to build 215 (as I read around here) in order to get the PPP settings to stick to the device and override the Verizon old settings... and then was the nasty "nightmare-ish" moment I could never foresee... QPST threw a pop-up window marking an error, saying I was using the wrong SPC, and that I needed it for writing the QPST info to the device, THE SPC CHANGED!!! It just pops me out (in QPST as well as in the ##DATA# or anywhere in the phone) the sign: "INVALID LOCK CODE". Is that even possible? So sorry for being ignorant, but couldn't find an answer that could really solve the problem... yes, I tried CDMA Workshop with no luck at all... my cellphone actually lost contact with the carrier and had to go to the PowerWashed custom mentioned above (Im still in the network, but can't do any significant change without the SPC code)... so, any kind suggestions?? any expert around looking for helping a fast-learning noobster like me?
Hope there's something silly I'm missing because of ignorance or something like that (nothing "deadly" for the device)
Thanks a lot in advance for taking the kind time to read my long query, and for any help your knowledge may allow me to get out of the unpleasant issue
Have a great day!
My bad! I'm sorry...
Just 5 minutes ago I found this... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.patternedsoftware.getmymsl&hl=es
and this as well... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546659
Won't delete it, perhaps someone will suffer from the same someday (I just hope they're not as half as desperate to get their devices working properly, lol!) Sorry!
Still...

it wasn't until today that I got 1X connection with my carrier, it was awfully slow!! managed my way to get 3G, and I DID! But it was still clumsy, only green arrow sending a lot of data and no orange incoming data to my device...

Still, any help on this Issue could help me a lot though, thanks a zillion!
So I am running a HTC phone and have made some mistakes. I have been trying to change my NAT type on x bone in order to play Rainbow six online with open NAT.
I tried tether to laptop then to box using a cross over cable and forwarding ports over Internet connection sharing. I also tried installing multiple port forwarder applications onto my phone and tethering directly to the XB. One app was meant for a rooted phone (port forward ultimate), which mine isn't and it would let me stop the process before uninstalling.
Unfortunately for me it didn't work and now the tethering speed is INSANELY slow. It tells me there is an MTU error (1340) and the games which used to work fine are now completely unplayable. I wish I had never done all of it just to play one game as the others worked fine.
I am really upset, because the bit of internet I get to play video game is barely keeping my alive at the moment and now its gone.
If you have any advice you would be helping a very ill man get a little bit of joy.
Thanks
Does anyone know anywhere in the UK where I can speak to a professional about my issue. I never get responses on this forum. Any other forums where professionals dwell and give advice/help?
Nobody has the knowledge to help at all?
Can't bring myself to believe that no one has any knowledge of what to do in this situation.
I will pay for someone to help me if that's what it takes to get someone to respond here.
So...If your Phone isn't rooted, you can try (if you have one) to recover all the information. If the Phone has a Guarantee, go to the shop where you buyed it. Since it isn't rooted the Guarantee is still on it. If all of that isn't an Option, the easiest way is to root the Phone (totally worth it anyway) and try an equal App. Not the same just onenwith the same function. Write back if none of these helps, and give some more Information about your mobile (S/N number Android Version...)

Its nothing to do with being rooted or not, my ISP is throttling my tethering somehow and I don't know how or why they are doing it. It worked fine for months, but I tried opening my NAT. It think they are doing something with my IP, subnet mask or MTU, but I don't know how to get around it. Other than rooting and applying tether dun 0, which I would prefer not to do, I am at a loss
Correction, I do know why they are doing it, it's because I tried opening my NAT, which is not allowed. The latency in games has quadrupled. 4g was perfect before, now its barely playable. I want to know why this is happening. Can mobile providers throttle tethering? It still works just very badly.
So, you live in the UK. So you think it's a problem with the provider. Wich provider is it?
It's either my mobile provider or the only other thing I can think of is that I dropped my phone a few weeks back.
Could dropping your phone cause the wifihotspot to work incorrectly? Surely if it was broken it would just work or not work.
I get very decent speeds on my phone but when so tether my speeds are awful, which never used to happen.
I am trying to rule out various possiblities and although I am alright at tech, I don't know much about mobiles and though there were a few knowledgeable people on this forum.
.
I am going to see a professional. I didn't realise it was all amateurs here, my mistake.
