Android Assistant from the market. It is free. Thios thing will not only kill services but prevent them from starting up. Let me know if this helps. Here is the link:

hi, omnichron.. so i assume that the app you suggested does better than kill services of apps.. it doesnt let them start up at all.

Hmm, guess you never heard of fast reboot? Doesn't need root... makes about 40-100 mb free within 30 seconds.

[Q] Apps Restarting

I recently upgraded my ATT Captivate to 2.2. I now have a problem with apps starting up on there own even though I've going into apps management and have killed them. I even have app killer and its not automatically killing the apps. These aren't the att apps, these are apps that I've installed.
How can I prevent apps from starting back up. Its killing my battery life.
Thanks

Get os monitor and check how much mem they use. If u see one that is always over 20%, uninstall it.
Also u can stop ur running services.

What BW said. Don't worry about them in there unless you find one using up too much battery/resources. They won't drain your battery unless it's a bad app.

I have also stopped the services for the apps that are restarting, and they keep coming back like bad mexican food.

You could try unistalling your task killer and getting Advanced Task Killer (it's the one I personnaly use). Now killing a app won't stop it from restarting, you usually fix that in your running services. Also make sure that these apps arent widgets - in that case they will always restart

Actually, its Advanced Task Killer that I have installed. Yes, I totally understand apps vs. services. I'm stopping the services for the apps that have restarted, yet they continue to restart after the service has been killed. These apps are definitely not widgets.

Umm, may I ask what are these apps?
The only app that takes couple tries for me to stop if the facebook one. Also, some app are made to constinusly refresh and get info from the internet. If that's the case with your apps, block their internet connection or change their settings to have it refresh manually.
Also, you can tell some apps not to start on boot up - that might temporaly fix your problem.

Apps like Google Maps, ColorNote, Daily Briefing and others. Its very random what apps decide to start.

I duno about colornote but as for the others, they automaticly refresh using the internet and so like I said in my other post, you have to set it so the either can't access the internet (might as well unistall them in that case) or set their refresh to manual so it only refreshes when you "tap" on them.
Google maps refreshes for your location. That one will be a pain especially if you have the gps on.
If you get over a day of battery life with moderate usage and that you like these app, then I'd say to just live with it. If it's not the case, I suggest getting rid of them but if OS Monitor doesn't show them using your mem/battery, then they don't actually do/change much.

Okay, I'm with you. So where exactly do you set apps to refresh manually?

once on the app, hit your menu button (bottom left one ) and you should have a setting option - each app will be different but it mostly comes to the same thing. Also if you don't have any menu option, there should be a (i) kind of image/icon somewhere in the main app page but these are rare. Most app will have their setting menu.
Thanks. I'll try it and see what happens.

Disabled apps still run

Everyone now and then I'll check to see what apps are running and I'll see that flickr is running. I've disabled all the bloatware I can, including flickr, so why would this run sometimes?

If you freeze the apps with Titanium Backup for example it won't run anymore. TB is a real battery safer.
Isn't disabling an app supposed to keep it from running? What else would disabling do?
I'm not rooted, so I can't use titanium.
install Advanced task killer free from play store;
you'll be able to setup autokill for (background) apps at desired intervals;
it is gonna make a difference in battery and speed

It just hides it from the app drawer. If there's an intent that starts it up, it will start.

how to stop auto starting apps?

currently, i'm using hotmail apps and espn fc apps.
the problem is, they keep auto start by themselves, is there any way to stop that?
thanks.
Use es task manager and disable the app you want in startup manager

I havent found a way to stop the hotmail app so I just uninstalled it. Its really annoying since I dont use push notification so why should it always be running.
You can use either Autostarts and Gemini App Manager to do that.

Autostarts is the better of the two IMO. ROM Manager also has the functionality built into it.

I feel you, man. I'm also annoyed with apps that just keep running in the background no matter what I do. In my case, these are apps like Facebook and Google Maps. What I do with them, since there are instances where I actually need them to, is just freeze them using Titanium Backup and then defrost them when I want or need to use them. It's a bit cumbersome but at least I can have the best of both worlds - use of the apps when I need them and said apps not using precious resources when I don't. < via xda app>

This is exactly what I do as well. I have them on my phone (because downloading when you need them is silly), but use TB and freeze them. You don't ever see them but they are there for when you need them. Weather apps, FB, Poweramp, etc. They are always running stealing RAM and battery.

A tip for both of you guys, if you don't know:
You can create a widget with Titanium Backup, select Titanium Backup (Actions), Action, scroll up a bit and select Freeze/Defrost/Launch an app. Select the app and choose Facebook or any other app you want to freeze.
What will this do? When you click the 1x1 widget, it will defrost the app and automagically launch it. When you exit and click it again, it will freeze the app. Reclicking it will defrost and launch and so on. Makes it much less cumbersome.

No problem!
Totally fell on it by accident myself, Titanium Backup really is a great app.
another app (requires root) is rom toolbox:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...wxLDMsImNvbS5qcnVtbXkubGliZXJ0eS50b29sYm94Il0.
it also has an autostart manager!
WIth CM10 I can completely kill facebook and google maps by long pressing the back button. They dont automatically restart like they would if you just force stop them.

That's the same as going in the app details and Force stopping the app.
Doesn't stop Maps from restarting if you have location services enabled of just prefetcherservice feeling like it should be prefetching.
yea rom toolbox for me

Thanks for the tip, man. TiBu is indeed a very robust tool. It's the most worthwhile purchase I've ever made from the Play Store and I doubt I take advantage of half of what it can do. < via xda app>
Has someone compared LBE security master & ROM toolbox ? LBE inconvenient is that it is always on so...

[Help] Introduce an app to avoid auto start

Hi, I've got root and xposed installed.
And already have installed amplify, greenify, no wakelock and bootstart manager.
But none of these was able to block an app from auto starting when phone is on.
Yea, it kills the app when you click on the greenifys shortcut, but I dont refer to that, I want an app which can disable the autorun service of the app.
Can anyone introduce a way or an app for that?
Thanks.

You mean an app like autostarts? Which alters the criteria to said apps??
Used to use it years ago but it's still available..
Not a task manager but an actual app that manages changes.

Not free but definitely worth a £1
Hope this helps..
