[Q] Stuck on Black screen - Captivate General

I have a Captivate that was rooted and working for over 6 months, and suddenly went into a black screen giving error on E:\.....
Have tried to install the stock firmware using ODIN in Download mode I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0 and I897UCKJ3_withBL and both are a success, but as soon as I reboot the phone i get the AT&T logo, see the Samsung logo and then the screen turns black and I can't even see the phone on USB
Also tried loading the Pinnacle_Flasher and I can see the CW recovery menu, but after that point I'm unable to flash an update.zip (Pinnacle_1.2.zip renamed as update.zip on root of ext SD card) from the external SD, and am unable to copy it to the internal SD Card. Connecting the phone to the PC says the USB drive needs to be formated.
Appreciate if anyone can help in recommending any other steps I can take to unbrick the phone
Using a Win 7 32 PC
Thanks

It could be something is corrupt on your internal SD card. Have you tried enetering clockwork mod and mounting USB storage and then hook it up to your computer and reformatting it

updated apps from the marketplace..

Did you actually name it update.zip, or just update?

i had the same issue. trying to look for the posts i made about it. i remember something along the lines of flashing to an old boot loader and an old kernel with cwm then doing all my wipes then doing a master clear via odin then via cwm again then tried flashing to stock. im probably neglecting one of my steps though.
oh and make sure you let it charge via wall plug for at least a half hour before you try anything.

Possibly bricked.. Can I access SD via Fastboot?

So I've managed to basically brick my HTC Desire whilst attempting to install the Cyanogen ROM via ROM Manager (forgot to wipe my device so it ended up looping at the Cyanogen welcome screen). I then tried to restore my device to the backup ZIP file that I made with ClockworkMod but it didn't work - said file wasn't found when I tried to select it.
From there I tried to factory reset the device from the ClockworkMod Recovery screen, but when I try to boot the device it now get's stuck looping at the white HTC 'Quietly Brilliant' screen.
I've installed the SDK on my Mac and have fastboot recognising my device. Is there a way I can access my SD card using fastboot so I can put a ROM on it and attempt to install it? I don't have a card reader and I'm miles from a store that sells them.
Sorry if my terminology is off - I'm new to this
Your help is VERY appreciated!
Marty
Actually the phone isn't even making it to the white HTC 'Quietly Brilliant' screen now, it's stuck at the O2 Welcome screen.
After reading countless forum posts I think I need to 'flash' the Desire with another ROM that includes A2SD - I just need to get the ROM onto my SD card via Fastboot (since I don't have a card reader).
Does that sound about right?
I have the same problem with my tattoo!
Whats really annoying is that before uppgarding to recovery 3.0.0.6 with RomManager this was not an issue 'cause the previous recovery I was using(green) had the option to connect and access the SD card with PC USBcable.
I tried in 3.0.0.6:
Mounts and storage menu:
mount sdcard
mount USB storage
Still ain't seeing my SD card on my laptop.
Being on a remote island right now I hope I can find someone here with a microSD card phone with USB cable that I can borrow to load a working ROM on my fuc***** SD card .

[Q] Cannot flash CM on 3100

Hi everyone,
I have a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (P3100) and I have rooted it and installed CWM so I could install the latest CM release. But when I try to install the CM zip file, it says "some symlinks failed". Now my tablet won't boot, the splash screen with "Samsung Galaxy Tab 2" keeps on forever. But I still have access to CWM and the Download mode so I think everything's not lost yet
Here are the exact steps I did:
- Uploaded the CM image (cm-10-20121213-NIGHTLY-p3100.zip), the gapps zip and the root zip to the tablet.
- Installed heimdall on my computer, with the correct drivers.
- Flashed CWM on the tablet.
- Installed the root zip on the tablet using CWM.
- Booted the tablet again just to make sure rooting was enabled (yes, it was).
- Opened CWM again, wiped data, wiped cache.
- Installed CM image:
--- Error: some symlinks failed (status 7)
- Installed the gapps zip file (worked)
- Formatted /system
- Installed CM image:
--- Same error: some symlinks failed (status 7)
I wanted to try another CM images, maybe that one is broken, I don't know, but now I cannot upload more files to the tabled internal SD card. I can't mount it anymore on my computer because the tablet won't boot. I tried using an external SD card (from another Android phone I have) but CWM says "Cannot mount /external_sd" when I try to mount it.
Can anyone help me? I want to flash the latest CM on my tablet.
Thanks!
This seems to me like either a broken recovery or maybe a corrupt download. What version of CM are you trying to flash? Also, what version of CWM are you using and where did you find it?
Posted from my Fascinate using XDA Premium
Yeah, I also think the download was corrupt. I tried flashing cm-10-20121213-NIGHTLY-p3100.zip (the latest one on the day I flashed) and my CWM version is 6.0.1.1. I downloaded it from ClockworkMod official website, they say that is the latest version for my tablet model.
I believe CWM is working and that the image is corrupt, but I can't find a way to flash another CM image because I don't know how to put another file inside the tablet, or how to flash an image from my computer to the tablet. Can I use something like heimdall to flash a CM to my tablet? Can I upload an image to the tablet so I can use CWM to install it? "adb push" doesn't work, it doesn't detect my device in CWM mode. Do I need some working/stock Android image on the tablet so I can flash CM over? Or it will work no matter what's installed (given that the download is not corrupt)?
Thanks!

Please tell me you made a backup after rooting and before modding?
If you didn't (which it sounds like), BAD CRISTIAN!!! But this will make you learn to do it from now on, huh?
Which leaves you only two options, both include using a computer to get a ROM zip to the tab...
1- connect tab to computer in recovery with usb cable and download a new copy to SD card via computer.
2 - remove SD card from tab, place in computer card reader, and download a new copy to SD card via computer.

How exactly do I download a new copy of the image to the SD card? When I plug the tablet to the computer, I can't access its files. It used to show me the files when the Android system booted, but on Recovery mode it won't display them, the filesystem isn't mounted. Should I do anything special? Should I use another CWM version?

I tried that, but it seems I cannot mount the external SD card using CWM. When I hit "Mount external SD Card", it says "Cannot mount /external_sd". The SD card works fine though, I use it on another phone and on my computer... Is this a CWM problem? =/
Thanks!

Pull the ext sd card out of the tab and put it into a card reader on a computer using the adapter the micro sd card [should have] come with.

Possibly... However if you can mount your internal sd card, you should be able to place the zip on there. I don't usually suggest using internal, but if that's what you gotta do....
I found out why I couldn't mount my external SD card with CWM: I had to format it with FAT32! I don't know what filesystem there was before, the SD card I have was used by an old Éclair phone. I still couldn't install others CM 10 images (I really don't know why), but I managed to install CM 9 and the brand new CM 10.1.
Thanks, guys! =)

[Q] stuck in boot loop

I've got my tf300t stuck in a boot loop when i turned it on today. (Ive looked around the forums for this issue already and been able to find little or no solutions that work for me)
I'm using cm10 and twrp. last night i shut the tablet off as usual and go to turn it on today and i cant get past the white asus logo and device unlocked screen.
I can access my twrp recovery menu, wiping dalvik returns a "E:Unable to mount '/data' (tw_mount)" cache wipes fine no errors.
I'm unable to flash another rom or restore from a back up as well.
Fastboot says its working but in cmd prompt it wont list the device. (computer recognizes it and it shows in device manager as android adb interface)
If there is any other information needed I will be more than happy to provide it.
any tips or help is greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanced.
I'm not yet very fammiliar yet with TF300, but from SGS 1 and ICS I remember one trick. If you have external microSD pluged, take it out or of you don't have it plug it in and then enter TWRP.
It probably won't work but you can try anyway.
Does TWRP have any file browser? I'm using CWM so I don't know much about TWRP.

Yeah it does have the file browser, upon initial booting i can browse an sd card ( i have a few of various sizes none seem to to be having any affect) and i can browse the internal storage as well. Booting both with and without the sd card in the device still leaves me in the boot loop.
So, can you copy new rom to sd card, then copy from sd to internal and install new rom? I think only option you have is to reinstall rom.

Be sure your sdk is up to date.
1. If you hold volume down plus power button to get to fastboot.
2. shift + control right click fastboot folder on computer then open command prompt.
3. type devices... and if it is not showing a device there something is not right.
4. you can try adb push to apply a flash if your device is not wanting to flash from sd card.

I've tried this as well. It was my first thought. Also it states in my original post that fastboot doesnt list my device, adb doesnt list it as well. Both are recent and up to date. However device manager does recognize it and windows makes the little notification sound. In safely remove devices it shows up as fastboot when i enable fastboot on the device.

TWRP Recovery 2.4.4.0.

I cleaned my tablet tf300, to install a newer and different rom, now i can't get twrp to see my microsd card to install the rom, how can i get the rom file to my internal sd card to proceed, as i can't get adb to work either, i've no idea how to copy the files to internal to get going again.
Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure the SD card is mounted in the "Mounts" section of TWRP.
I did that but it won't stay in that mode, keeps on reverting to internal.

Did you try unmounting the internal, then mounting external?
I have zero luck in getting it to stay on external SD, I've tried to unmount the internal and then mount the ext sd, so I am stuck. I don,t even see USB mode when I hold volume down and power, the only option is recovery Android and wipe data, so I don't seem to be able to get the zipped rom i want to install copied where I can use it.

Thats how the new bootloader works, fastboot protocol is enabled the second you boot to that menu. So make sure you are on the patched 2.4.4.0 recovery.
I've downloaded a patched version of the twrp 2.4.4.0, but i can't access usb function to use fastboot or any other method to get the patched file to my internal storage on the tablet. Any ideas as how to transfer the needed file? Hope it's not bricked beyond repair. Plus my pc fails to install device driver, i am stuck at the starting screen that says "the device is unlocked" and asus logo.

Fixed Hard Brick But No Recovery or Download mode

I posted this in the stickied thread, but I'm kind of in a hurry to receive a fix. After fixing my bricked phone it won't enter recovery mode or download mode. It's also having connection issues with Odin, even though it says the device is connected.
I followed this guide to fix it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50128942
The original brick was caused by installing and using EZ Unlock 1.2 before checking all the facts. I didn't know about the bootloader on the 4.3 at the time. I'm just going to copy and paste what I already wrote in the other thread.
I'm having a few problems still. My phone is up and running and it's rooted using saferoot. Which is all good, but now I can't get into recovery mode or download mode. They both start up. When I enter recovery mode I get the blue text in the top left hand corner, but then the phone just starts up like normal. When I enter download mode the screen flashes the screen for a second before turning off and starting the phone normally.
Also, when I connect my phone to the computer everything works like it should, but when I enter Odin while it says it adds my device when I try to install the stock rom it never connects to the phone and installs it. It just hangs there waiting for the connection.
I have a question about restoring the bootloader and recovery image as well. I downloaded the debrick file and it shows up with the bin extension, but for some reason it wants to use VLC media player to open it. I wrote it to the 16 GB card and it shows up on the card as a folder called "image" with lots of files in it. Nevertheless it worked and my phone booted up.
Then I follow the directions, as best as I can with my inept knowledge of all this. I put the stock bootloader and recovery image on the card (not at the same time) and then put the code in using Terminal Emulator. Here's where I'm confused though.
The first time I moved the debrick folder and the recovery image manually to the phone storage and then entered the codes. Again, one at a time.
The second time I put the files on the external 16 GB card and left them there. Then I put in the codes and then I plugged the phone back into the computer and deleted the originals on the external card.
Either way the phone works. Mostly. I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong and that's why recovery and download mode won't work.
The instructions also say to keep the debrick.bin file on the external card. Do I keep the actual image folder on the card or the file as it was downloaded? Because even after I deleted the debricked image folder off the card it says there isn't any room on there for the file. I formatted the card at a point but when I put it back in the phone it was bricked again.
I hope someone can help me with this. I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you for your help!
I tried your suggestion twice but it wouldn't work. It still gets stuck at SetupConnection.
You have multiple issues going on here.
First thing you should do is make sure your drivers are up to date and you're using a good cable and USB port on your computer. That may fix your issue with it not being recognized, all of those can cause problems.
To clarify your issue with the hardbrick restore method, it's working like it should. It's being recognized as a vlc media file because vlc is set to detect .bin files and this has nothing to do with the function of the file. The debrick image is an actual image that is written by win32, and it's designed to make the phone work around the initial bootloader problem and boot from that source. Since the boot image is now on your external SD card, as soon as you take it out your phone can't boot anymore. This is why it's a much larger file structure than just the .bin file. This may be the issue with your phone. Now on to your other issue.
In that guide there is a section to rewrite the image to your internal card with terminal emulator underneath the initial post. If you do that you wouldn't need the external SD card, and it may fix your connection issue with Odin.

I did move both files to the internal card and removed them from the external SD card already. I think it worked since the phone starts up, it just won't let me into either mode. Could I have caused all this when I moved them?

Oy. I don't know what to do. Is there another way to get into download or recovery mode beside the three button method?
Last night I used Titanium Backup to wipe user and system apps and cleared the cache, but it didn't help. I guess I'm going to try a factory reset through the settings menu. Hopefully that will do something?
