if this does work, then great, but, you could try to package the parcel a little better, how about adding an explanation detailing exacting what this update should do and under what conditions (from what ROM and hboot versions it's safe to run) along with where you actually got it from or did you create it on your own?

Ok I understand. In the Thread "sense 3 ota update" or something like that in htc desire s general forum. on page 15 comment 145. Some guy posted the link so i took that and some people tested it out and said it was Safe, as you can see in one of my other threads about this update! So i just decided to make a guide of what to do and see if it helps, it will probably get rid of your root, but that is why i said only people with unrooted devices and s-on. It is Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0. The guy got it from HTC.COM 9(SOMEWERE) FOR EUROPE! Is that all???

It'll not work on non-euro roms. Hence not working on Asian once. Because of CID checks and also you will not be able to force update if the rom is not asking (downloading) on the right HTC server.
Anyone done this successfully yet??

Ok. What you have to do is that when it shows the exclamation mark in the triangle you hold the volume up rocker down and press the power button. Though mine is not updating still, it goes to where to you see "install updates".

As the title implies, wondering if any of the temp root methods work with the latest OTA update? I know I could go permanent, but I usually only reboot 1 time a week and I don't mind stock right now. I really just want to use Titanium and freeze some apps.

You would have to start by using the HTC Unlock Bootloader process at http://htcdev.com.
Once you have HTC unlocked, then you can install ClockworkMod recovery and then flash and install the su_2.3.63.zip to root your ROM.
Just use Revolutionary as everyone else does, works fine

It works with 2.3.4.
BUT not my Sensation w OTA 2.3.4
I am somewhere around a noob or a noob=, but I have tried so many times to root my Sensation and no joy. I have downloaded the Revolutionary "ui" and I only get a brief flash on the cmd window.
I have read that I need to do this 2 or 3 times to get it to work, is this true? Do I need instead to place the revolutionary code at top of the SD mem card? I also previously ran the SDK and got all the way to the congratulations step but nothing else was said to perform, am I lost or did I move to noob- from noob+?
I have a TMO USA Sensation with OTA 2.3.4 and HTC unlock code installed, HELP!

@Chh, use HTC sync on your phone when you plug the usb cable to pc, run Revelutiinary.exe as administrator, it should work. If you're on Windows 7 you may need to reinstall the drivers and run in compatibility mode XP with service pack 2. I had a few hiccups while rooting two different Sensations and this method worked for me. Hope this helps.

The latest OTA update for 2.3.4 has a new hboot version and Revolutionary does not work with this version because HTC has closed the previous root exploit. That is what the OP has been asking about all along.

The tool works with the latest hboot 1.18.0000, but as per my post above you may need to run the tool 2 or 3 times before it works. You will get an error about a comms error and to go get some lemonade. Just reboot phone and rerun the tool.

Rhiannon, wow you are right about the Windows 7 shoulld be run in XP comp mode. I made all the progress in the world even being asked to enter my beta key, however it was rejected (several times). So I will do a fresh download of "revolutionary.io" and unzip it do the XP comp & admin properties hopefully they (the people who make revolutionary.io) are doing some kind of timestamp checking because I entered without any errors the key. If that doesn't work don't know where to turn. Oh by the way I am using a TMO USA OTA 2.3.4 update and the phone has the TMO unlocked bootloader. Yes I installed the new HTCdriver files 3.x x x something, too and removed the HTC Sync.
Now what?
Permanent root does work with revolutionary with an OTA 2.3.4 updated phone. I did it

I'm a noob. I followed the guide and rooted a 2.3.4 phone with Revolutionary just like everyone else. No issues. Phone is running great.
One thing that wasn't clear to me however, was that you need to put the files on the SD card as a zip file. I was being a bit over helpful and extracting them first. Didn't work until I figured that out.
@cch copy and paste the beta key, it's case sensitive, do this by copying the beta key then in the Revelutionary command window, at the top left hand corner right click and choose paste, the other steps I gave you were working so your entering the key wrong. That's the only thing it could be, it took me a Fe times to enter it correctly. Also, Revelutionary will boot into fastboot and it will loose communication, you will have to do it 3 times and then banjo, s off. I hope it works for you. These are they exact steps, it worked for me on two different phones, also the Revolutionary site confirms it is working on the t mouse 2.3.4 update, I had the same ROM as you.
Glad if i helped. Hit my thanks button. Thanks.

See I am really new to all this. Basically can someone tell me what is so different between rooting an optimus one and a sensation? and can someone direct me to a post that DOES have a simple way to root, or at least take the time to write one here? I would appreciate it EXTREMELY MUCH.

I was like you just yesterday but lost my virginity last night ( as far as rooting goes). It's super easy to do. Check on YouTube there are vids that show you step by step how to do it. I didn't want to root my sensation before cause I didn't know anything about it. But last night I just did it and my current rom ( android revolution HD 3.6.1) is beyond amazing. People who don't root have NO idea what they're missing. It's a must. Anyway you have to use the revolutionary method to get S-off. Getting S-off doesn't mean you're rooted it "just" mean you have an unlocked boot loader and you can achieve root. But yeah check the vids on YouTube just type how to s-off and root sensation and follow the exact same step. When you're all done, check on YouTube again how to flash a rom, you will b a pro in no time!
Thanks!! yeah I did root my optimus one like I said and flashed cyanogenmod but my phone stopped receiving texts as soon as I did...I thought it was the fact that I rooted it, but in fact it was cuz I didn't pay my phone bill for two months so i was afraid of rooting after that for fear that it might happen again. But yes, so,
where does busybox and superuser fit into all of this?? I recall when i rooted my optimus one superuser appeared on my phone...and I had to download busybox separately. Is busybox necessary for flashing certain roms??

You can download both from Android Apps. Sometimes when trying to download an app (eg.Titanium Backup) it will ask if you want to load busybox or superuser. It is not very difficult.

I can't get over how simple rooting and flashing a custom ROM really is.
Took all of twenty minutes including downloading all the files, I'm now S-OFFed and running ARHD 3.6.1 with the recommended radio and my phone is absolutely flying - Quadrant benches of 2800+.
And as above, if I ever need to go back to stock I can either restore the backup I made when flashing the ROM, or flash a stock RUU and job done.

Could also be a failed signature check. I know around this time last year (maybe November) the Desire got an update like this, however if you were rooted it would not pass the signature check for some reason. Also if you were unbranded on an originally branded device and NOT rooted it would also cause this problem. I remember being able to fix the problem, I just can't remember how
It won't install until you go back to stock recovery. There is a thread somewhere in the sensation forums that tells you how. You will have to search though cause I can't remember where but I remember reading it.

Did either of you figure out the fix, or did you give up? I'm in the same position and would like to know how to do this. Please provide any links that you can. Thanks.
from what i read you have to flash stock recovery the instructions for this can be found in android development
I solved ny fully flashing a stock rom
I had same issue , so I used an rru that I have from the stock rru thread in android develpment, and then I can accept the over the air updates and have it to work, but it is very annoying way to go.
The problem that the HTC official updates need the htc own recovery and not the one we burn to have the abilty to install su and root.
So after u install a stock rom and have it updated u will have to root probably at least to clear the battery stats,,, this will make u loose abilty to accept updates again ??!!
I wish if someone can tell us an easier solution

now for GB there is GB firmware(s)
also for ICS there is ICS firmware(s)

so to move from GB to ICS ..you need to update your firmware to an ICS one
to chk your firmware
settings->about phone->soft ware information->build number
if its 1.xx... then its GB firmware
for ICS you need to have 3.32.xx firmware

My suggestion is that you run the process again but look at your serial number carefully and also copy and paste the beta key provided when you entire in the serial number into the revolitionary tool box when it asks for it to reduce any chances of error.

Sometimes its best to copy and paste beta key into area to assure its exact. What firmware are you running on?
I advice you to check here if you are running on the correct firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
You need to use tacoroot method to get around the Zerging root failed message. Use this guide.
Except, use
Code:
adb shell chmod [COLOR="Red"]777[/COLOR] /data/local/tacoroot.bin
Instead of
Code:
adb shell chmod [COLOR="Red"]755[/COLOR] /data/local/tacoroot.bin
Then, after the S-Off, you need to follow the normal steps to install the ROM, as previously stated.
Ok so i went into settings and checked for an update in the att update setting and it said there was one. it downloaded and i opened it when i did it took it tells me something about it being an important update and ask to continue and then tells me the phone is going to restart. when it does it boots into twrp and wont update it and when i reboot and check again for the update it tells me the phone has the latest update when it is still on 4.0.4. What should i do ?

You have to ruu back to stock. Supercid stock, relock bootloader.why not just flash one of the stock roms in the dev section. As of now I dont even think there is a root exploit for 3.18 base

Im running the latest viper xl Rom and love it, u never said what hboot you are on. Anything 1.14 and up needs to have a boot image flashed separate. I think viper will flash the boot image for you though. If you need help with that let me know but u really should read more and you will figure this out quick enough

"Because it is new and is from their Carrier" so people will think they need to flash it
Lol lucky he didn't brick or corrupt hboot . There is a version of that here in android to use instead of ota btw

To the OP:
-When you take an ota, it tries to reboot to recovery. You have a custom recovery installed, but you have to have stock recovery to install an official update.
-You can flash this thing you downloaded, but it has to be renamed update.zip and moved to the root directory. Then you've got to run a ruu to get stock recovery back on.
-If you have s-on and superCID, installing this OTA will brick your phone.
-The 3.18 ota contains some firmware updates and a new hboot that aren't included in JB roms. But if your phone is running fine, you don't need these.
-You're better off just flashing a JB rom until you understand more about how your phone works.
