Hey guys , i'm from malaysia and it seems that my galaxy S2 is not running on the spec that i have been seeing on the net.
according to gsmarena, it is suppose to be:-
Dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, Mali-400MP GPU, Exynos chipset
but what i found on my s2 from Quadrant Standard is a
dual core 1.2 (min freq 300 max 1.2) Arm v7 Processor rev3 (v71)
the board seems to be the omap4sdp
and importantly it iis NOT the mali 400mp Gpu but it is the
PowerVR SGX540 open GL ES-CM 1.1 version.
Does anyone has this kind of spec? is it right ? or does different country might have different specs?
I would need some answer and explanation cause i couldnt find a reason why the spec of my s2 is diff as from the internet.

I cannot find any related information as to what, or if there even exists a GPU on the Samsung Exhibit 4G. Anyone know what it is?
I believe it is the PowerVR GPU, due to the fact that it uses a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, Hummingbird chipset. This processor and GPU has been teamed up for the Galaxy S (and in the Apple A4 processor). My guess is, the Exhibit is a small Galaxy S -- hardware-wise and not counting the Super Amoled display and 3.2 mpx camera
Mali 450 octa (the one rumored to be used on the note 3 ) VS PowerVR SGX 544MP3 (this is the one used on the Samsung galaxy s4 octa) ?
Which do you think is better?
Thanks

Tough one, from what i gather it seems that it is more sensible that samsung should use a tablet gpu in the note 3(eg.Mali-T604), the Mali-450 in an 8-core GPU while the PVR SGX 554Mp3 is a 3-core, the Mali-450 MP8 is a 2*Mali-400 MP4(not a very nice thing to do genii -_-) http://www.arm.com/files/event/3_ARM_Mali-450_Introduction.pdf so thats 2 x mali-400 benchmarks. according to http://www.cnx-software.com/2013/01...e-gcxxx-vs-powervr-sgx-vs-nvidia-geforce-ulp/ , texture pixel rate for the Mali-400 is 1.6G Pix/s for 1 core @ 400 MHz and the SGX is 1 G Pix/s per core @ 200 MHz, that means its 1.6 * 8 for the mali-450 MP8 and for the SGX is 2 * 3 **not sure here, could be 2*3 or 4*3** . Which means that the mali 450 mp8 is in total capable of 12.8G pix/s and the SGX 544 mp3 is capable of 6G pix/s AT 400 MHZ ONLY!! keep in mind that the sgs2 came out at 267 Mhz is something like that happened it would change the game completely. so at the same speed the mali-450 wins but i think it will consume alot more power than the sgx 544 mp3 since its 8 cores vs 3 cores, and i dont think u need that power in a 1080p device, so i feel it will be clocked much lower than 400 at maybe 200 or 250, giving it the same performance as the SGX at 533.

Hey the mali 450 is not an octa 8 core GPU , it has 4 cores not 8!!!
it has 4 fragment processors and MAY BE SCALABLE TO 8. so there are not 8 because I checked wth arm in their forums :laugh::good:

actually there many different variants of mali 450 2,3,4,8 cores.
Also check this "http://www.notebookcheck.net/ARM-Mali-450-MP4.116281.0.html"
Arm mali 450 mp
Looking on the ARM site. It lists MALI-300, MALI-400 MP, MALI-450 MP. Nowhere does it list MP2 or MP6 or anything like this. The ARM site also has a diagram image of the MALI-450 MP. It has 8, I repeat 8! Fragment Processors.
Next!
Go to Wikipedia! Do a search for MALI-450 MP. You will get a page titled MALI (GPU). On that page, as it states in the page title, is a list of all of the MALI GPU's. The MALI-450 MP is listed as having 4-8 cores. The MP2, MP4 and MP6 variants have come onto the GPU as variants for the SoC they are running with. Listed is AMLogic with the 8726-M8 series (M801, M802, S801, S802) for the MP6 and 8726-M8B series (M805, S805) for the MP2. MediaTek with the MTK6592 Octa SoC has the Mali-450 MP4 @ 700 MHz.
So!
The literature and ARM specs have the MALI-450 MP listed with Multi Core Scaling of 1-8 cores. Wiki has listed as 4-8 cores. Therefore, how can anyone say that it is a 4 core? It is an 8 CORE GPU.
I am no expert and I DEFINITELY don't purport to know more than any of you guys. But I do my research! However, if you have evidence to prove that I am wrong, by all means, PLEASE!?! Present it. If I am wrong I need to know! Knowledge is gathered by going down the many paths presented, many of which appear correct to start with but can be false. This is the joy of learning. How else do we answer the myriad questions we have running through our minds.
how to overclock mali octa?
Hello,
I have a question that I've been scouring the internet for ages for but have never found the answer,
I own a Nexus 7 and a cheap Tablet that utilizes the Mali 400-MP.
In my expirences with general gaming (and benchmarks) the Mali 400 outperforms the tegra by a long shot.
My question is why this is the case, I checked the specs of both chips and the tegra has 12 cores vs the Malis 4 cores, the Tegra even has a higher clock rate so I just can't understand why the Tegra is less powerfull.
Is it just that the games I play are optimized for the Mali better than the tegra?
My thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this
chip are different as Pentium dual @3Ghz = core 2 duo @1.6Ghz
Both have 2 core, but since the first is netburst an the second core architecture they don't have the same way to calculate, manage tread etc etc
Thanks

Wow that was fast! thanks for responding so quickly,
im still a little unsure, the Tegra 3 uses the ARM Architecture and so does the Mali so i don't think its that simple, i could be wrong i guess...
if it is just for that reason, how would you go about comparing the two to find out which is better when looking at the specs?
Edit: ive just checked, they both use The ARM v7 Instruction Set, and i think they are both variations of the ARM Cortex-A9 chip,
plus what im looking for is more a comparison of the GPU where as i think Architectures are more to do with CPU's.
SIMD's and MAD's
I've been scouring the internet and came across the fact that the Mali 400 has more SIMD Units.
Could this be why the Mali is better? I must admit that I'm not really sure what a Single Instruction Multiple Data unit does performance wise.
Bump.
Recap: my question is why a GPU with more cores and a higher clock speed has less GFLOPS than a GPU with less cores and a lower clock speed
I was going to buy a tablet for uni, and as i have some experience with computers i decided to compare the tablets and buy which was best for me, however i realized I'm a complete greenhorn in terms of phone/tablet hardware.
I found that these two processor was the ones i had to pick from:
Samsung Exynos 5250 - A15 Dual core @ 2 Ghz
Has an excellent GPU T-604
Rockwell Rk3188 - A9 Quad core @ 1.8 GHz
Has an decent GPU Mali 400
I know that the Exynos has a MUCH better GPU and has the newer A15 architecture, clocked at higher speed but is a dual core.
But the Rockwell is a quad core but has a older A9 architure and has the worse GPU.
I tried to search for a comparison but came nil because I was comparing between different release date/architecture.
Could you guys people explain to this newbie the advantages and disadvantages of each processor, and which one i should pick?
Which Processor is better? why is it better? Better by how much?
Which processor would be better at Nds emulation? I know android nds emulator support multicore and GPU support
Rk3188 (quad core) vs exynos (better GPU, architechture)
Which one has the lower battery consumption?
Thank you for your time.
at first is it Rockchip RK3188 , not Rockwell .. 2nd, A15 is faster than A9 even A9 is in A9 quad core state, for better compatibility support for apps and games .. take exynos chip but the price is hinger than rockchip RK3188 tablet... battery comsumption are vary depnds actual MAH on the tablet + how the user usage on it's tablet + version ROM that perform
Tablet is not only about processor, build quality, screen, speakers - its a package.
As you did not mention exact models under comparison, it depends on what you look for and budget.
For price/quality top score, you can't go wrong with one of Cube u9GTV (quad) tablets :
Retina, aluminum body, IPS, HDMI, stereo speakers and 9+ hours of battery.
I have one myself, and I used the dual core (old model) for a year, so I know they last well and are robust.
One of issues to consider is that having ADB over USB to Cube tablets is sometimes a mess, so I'm using ADB over IP to debug things, which might be not the best solution for a developer.
Best luck with your choice!

Hi all,
I want to buy a new phone and I am confused regarding the performance and graphical processing unit.
I have 4 combinations on my list. Please help me to choose one on basis of performance.
1. Qualcomm MSM8960T Snapdragon, Dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait, Adreno 320, with 1 GB of RAM [Sony Xperia SP]
2. Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon 400, Dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait, Adreno 305, with 1.5 GB of RAM [Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini]
3. Qualcomm MSM8226 Snapdragon 400, Quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7, Adreno 305, With 1 GB of RAM [Motorola Moto G]
4. Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon, Dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait, Adreno 225, With 2 GB of RAM [Blackberry Z10]
I want to buy a phone that can run android apps, and that's why Z10 is on this list.
I kind of like the interface of BB Z10 and I would like to buy it, but I think the processor and GPU are kind of outdated.
There is one more option. I can wait for BB Z3 to come which features Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, Dual-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7, Adreno 305, With 1.5 GB of RAM.
Please help me choose one on the basis of performance and light gaming.
Thank you.
moto g
I have a gut feeling that moto g is best because it is newer ,faster ,cheaper
