I've seen a few ways to make swype work with a custom ROM for other phones, but I was wondering if someone with more experience knows if any of these methods will work for the AT&T Infuse 4G? I've gotten fairly used to swype and so far not having it on the custom ROM's is my only complaint. Thanks to anyone that can help.

If a custom rom doesn't have Swype, you can install it yourself, by going to Swype.com and signing up.Then it will allow. You to download the latest version of Swype. Thats what I did. FYI , there are other keyboard apps like Swype(Slide It,Go Launcher keyboard wich lets you change the background on keyboard).This is the Go Launcher version of Swype.

Yes, cause I dont think it will install otherwise. You could rename the old Swype to (.bak). I deleted mine. Sometime after an uninstall of a system app like that I would reboot my phone.

It is call black droid I am using Damageless 2.05 rom and just installed this launcher just like flashing a rom thru image flasher.

(UPDATE) I have tried all these on my evo using the latest xxxvirusxxx rom and haven't had any problems with them. You can try them but please backup your device first, there are no guarantees. If you have problems getting them to work you will probably have to ask someone else for help. I have no idea what I am doing and really not sure how I pulled this off .

funny that we had the same thought at the same time...
i was in the process of doing the same thing to the wifeys, oh well. have you tried just using the original zip and flashing it?
I dont know if that will work. Like I said I am restoring now, not sure if want to restore again tonight. I know just enough to get my self in trouble and thats about it.

Thus far I have failed miserable. I have most of the png's resized for MDPI though if anyone wants to take on this...
Does this work on cm6 roms for desire?
Tried to install on my EVO rooted with Fresh and got "Application not Installed" after it asked if it was ok to replace system application. If anyone has any luck let me know I love their SMS/MMS app. Rom isnt stable enough for me to want to use it day to day.

I did eveything ok though..I install lots of system apps via adb but this crash when i run it..
I took a look at app's source code and fount a few things that seemed rom-dependent - like androidverscrolling. I guess that's why it won't run on other roms.

Maybe this belongs in a different section but I just wanted to get the word out. I'm not quite sure how it works but you can load your own themes from the SD if they are in some sort of special format.
To find this menu go to settings - personal - custom theme

Definately I just hope some devs / themers that are more skilled than I. Can figure this out, it seems really cool.
If you head over to the MIUI-dev forums you can see whats going on
So far only one theme has been released that uses the new method, but I am tinkering with it now and it is really simple to create themes.

There is a bug in it. Some times applying theme, after restart the phone will stuck on bootloader

Got swiftkey x for. 10 cents in android market instead, hopefully that works.

I deleted the original "libswypecore.so" in system/lib in order to get the new swype to install and work right when I was on original stock rom.
I could only use the beta, swype has some thing where if you run a rom you have to use the beta. Anyway, i finally just gave up after a few days.

Uninstall swype, delete libswypecore, swype.apk if exists, reboot. Install whichever color here you want(latest beta) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124639
