Font Installer *Root* - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Did a quick search for this in our app forum and got no results, so I thought I'd share this app. Has about 190 fonts to choose from, all free, and it has the new Roboto font from Ice Cream Sandwich which looks really good. Plus, it is free!
Check it out!
Font Installer *Root*

Roboto looks so awesome. Takes a bit for you to stop thinking "WTF" when you read stuff, but overall very readable.

Nice find!

(REQ) Galaxy S Port to CDMA Hero

Hey Forums,
Im pretty new and i just recently visited the sprint store and checked out the new Samsung Epic 4g. Its pretty amazing and the UI Is amazing.
My question being is there anyway or anyone who could port a Samsung Galaxy S or the Epic .. or really any of the Samsung Phones ROM over to the CDMA Hero? If so it would be greatly appreciated.

If all you want is the launcher UI then a simple search will give you Touchwiz.
This is in no way uniform or a theme, but it is the Touchwiz User Interface Launcher, and as such should give you at least a taste of your Galaxy S craving.
There's also a few slight S based themes here and there. But I doubt you will see a Samsung rom ported to our phones, unless someone that truly likes it, much like yourself, decides to make it happen.
Hope that helps.
I made my own sort of Galaxy S theme. There are as smoothtaste said there are a few themes floating around here. I downloaded them all and made one from them using jaybob's BlackMod as a base. I would share but I did not include the boot animation, or the Galaxy S status bar. Below is a link to a Galaxy S launcher Pro theme, a good one too!

I have puzzle pieces for answering the phone too
The status bar Icons were Galaxy S but I changed them...
is there an actual theme for aospMod?

This is the theme that got me hooked on Galaxy S look. I had trouble flashing the rom/theme though, it would never let me do the google set up from a clean install Thats why I set out to create my own. I merged parts of all there Galaxy S themes out there, then made my own status bar Yours I used the dark blue and puzzle pieces Thanks
swishersweedz420, would you mind posting just the flashable theme, without it merged into a rom? TY
Yeah I would love a exact port because I agree and think the touchwiz ui and lockscren and all

How Honeycomb might look like on phones!

This is how I think Android 3.0 Honeycomb will look like on our phones.
Thanks to zandog from deviantart for the Nexus S image.
pretty cool! you never know it might look something similar!
God I hope not. ! Having launcher/start menu on top edge was the only thing that bugged me about winmo. Don't want it in android. .

While thats an awesome mock-up, I hope it doesn't look like that. I like my notification bar

Really good idea, look forward to more reviews! We need more beautiful Android apps out there!
haha not much yet, hopefully soon more
I hope we see some more "exquisite" Android apps. That's one area where I think iOS is way ahead.

The only problem with Ics

I mainly like ics but it is too dark and not hapy like gingerbread. gbread is bright and happy looking if we could change that ics would be a whole lot better

Is Dark, but beautiful, it's simple, and follow a line. in GB, everything was coloful, but weird. I liked a lot more ICS than GB.
ics is nice but wouldent you like a little more color in it
Nope. Even my wallpapers black n' blue
What actually annoys me is how some of the stock icons/apps are brightly coloured (people, messages, etc).
I kind of agree I've played with ICS and like the feel of GB better, maybe it's because I am so used to GB and have not gotten used to ICS. But its darker and more mysterious I do kind of like that. But bright and happy wallpapers don't really fit the dark ominous blue theme of ICS
I just don't like the shade of blue they used, it seems overused.

Personally I think ICS looks terrible. Its ripped off from old 80's sci-movie computer panels. I mean, I love Tron, its brilliant, but doesnt work so well on a device when you have seen something like MiUI bring out the best in Android. Now that looks stylish and professional. Where ICS looks like its supposed to appeal to geeks and teens only. I am a certified geek, but I just cant get to liking the looks of ICS

Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm glad i'm not the only one that feels this way. Sometimes with Android it's like you get a peek behind the curtain, and what you see is a Smartphone OS that's made by tweens, for tweens.
Yes, the Googlers are some of the most able people in the tech world, but sometimes it feels like they lack maturity. Certain aspects of their work needs more thought, more polish. Everything is 95% there and then left incomplete, as if in a fit of ADHD they moved on to the next project and forgot all about the previous one.
I think it's the usual paradigm. Coders do not make good Designers. What i'd like to see is a universal Theme Engine included in the OS itself. Much like the T-Mobile one included in CM7, but created by Google. Every device, whether Vanilla Android, or OEM Skinned, should come with a selection of Themes that work with that common engine. Sense/Touchwiz/Vanilla would all just be Themes for users to choose between.
Of course, Google half-arsed it again and didn't even consider Theme support when creating Android. Even Windows Mobile had Theme support going way back. It even had a Selection Pane for choosing between them. Why is technology going backwards in this regard?
Beauty of Android, don't like the look, change it

I actually LOVE the new look. Its simple, elegant, consistent and much more polished. IMO the whole Android experience/"feel" had been revamped to the better , lets hope OEMs dont mess this up with their skins.
Plus is uses less battery on the Amoled displays, because of all the black!
I like it a lot, but I must say that my phone looks the rather the same as before, and Samsung allready used a lot of black for their own TW skin (think because of the Amoled display)
It's worth noting that the Galaxy nexus is the only device that will see the Holo theme. All the others will be skinned in the normal manufacturer colour schemes.
And i never thought i'd see the day when i would say that's a good thing!

Although Android did publish a design website to help developers/designers follow the new Holo theme that ICS brought along. They are also encouriging OEMs to follow these guidlines when designing all those skins, so that Android would mantain a certain touch and feel throughout different devices!
Personally Id love to see that happen. Diversity is a great thing, but I do think certain UI elements need to look the same across all devices. But then again , Android is open source and OEMs can choose not to follow anything and come up with a whole new UI .
I love the new look, i like dark styles anyway, and i think it looks really smart and like some have already said, change it if you dont like it
i like ics because it gives a lot of a abstract feel and the dark tone feels like it save more battery. however a lot of ics theme is blue, i read somewhere that from RED-GREEN-BLUE, the colour tone BLUE uses more battery compare to the rest.

The holo theme is to be used inside of apps to create the consistent feel. It has nothing to with sense, touchwiz etc. When you press a menu button inside of an app, google wants a consistent response with no crazy surprises. When you open an app, it looks the same on all devices no matter what the manufacturer UI is....

Just because they want it, doesn't mean anybody will comply! If you were creating an app would you use your design ideas, or theirs?
i really need to learn how to code and make things for android lol
Gingerbread was dark and dull and boring, ICS is dark, but sexy and clean. Froyo was bright and happy but Froyo is almost obsolete now.
Android in the pre-ICS era was inconsistent and all over the place, design-wise. It was about time it looked like a "whole" OS and not something 100 different people quickly put together.

[Q] Sony's UI or default UI

Hi! just wondering... do you like how Sony changes the look of android?
It doesn't look bad but why do some manufactures need to change the icons, apps' layout (especially the sms) and everything what Google intended to be. I know that it needs to be somehow distinct or unique but I really love how the 'default' android looks like. You may say buy another phone but Xperia's 'external' design fits me & my wallet or flash another rom but some roms are just modified stock roms. They could have just added the features & apps and followed the UI just like CyanogenMod. The only thing i love about the Xperia's stock rom is the Walkman app and the illumination bar and I haven't switched to CM10 yet because the video playback/recording doesn't work. Sorry if you think that my comment is stupid but do you like how Sony changes the look of android's GUI?
Definitely prefer sony UI! It's nice,great,simple... When I'm on CM10 i always flash xperia z style systemUI,status bar,install walkman,xperia lockscreen...
Me, too. Timescape ui FTW! It's the most beautiful and most "operational" one on android smartphones. Also, it's way better than stock google's one.
Sony ui any day, with all things colorized according to theme.

i like that feature though i hope we could choose on a wider range of color just like what windows 8 has on its start screen or on its desktop. i mean would it be great if the color theme adapts to your wallpaper or the album cover of what you're playing so that your phone could adjust to your mood. i think i'm just being silly here :cyclops: but that would be so great...

I do see that coming in the future actually.
But as for now,if your wallpaper has a green base, choose green theme and change wallpaper?
Hi,
Stock, pure, Vanilla Android will always be my preference. That's also why I love CyanogenMod! It's just... So pure and clean! My Nexus 7 with KitKat gives me the desire to taste CM11 on my E!
Ofcourse, Sony's skin is the best skin on the market! Together with Oppo, I like them the most. Compared with the stuff Samsung drops on their phone, unbelievable. Allthough I do like the new Windows 8-like skin they put on KitKat. But TouchWiz is just completely messed up! LG isn't much better. The childish icons make me want to hit the screen...
No, how Google intended it to be will always rock for me. I don't even have to install a ROM on my Nexus. It's fine as it is(rooted and TWRP installed, but still...).
That's my opinion . If Samsung would stop to hire toddlers for their UI team, that would be sweeeeeet...
Have a nice day!

  LOL!!! i can't stop laughing when you said that and i totally i agree with you but if samsung wants their device to be more child-friendly or toddler-friendly, they're probably making a good job...
Android bells, Android bells, Google all the way... CM11 is coming to town, riding on the E!
Excuse my terrible parody of Jingle Bells. Continuing...
I love Google's stock UI, and TouchWiz comes close. Sony's UI, at least in my E or my friend's J, looks unfinished. The design just isn't consistent, and that's a big ouch. Samsung, however, looks solid. Not necessarily refined, but it's cool either way.

Its not that I hate TouchWiz. It's just different from the way Google intended it to be! When I bought my SII, I used TouchWix for two months. Then I got fed up and installed Paranoid Android.
It changed my life... No more glossy, shiny icons and messy menus. Pure Android!
I absolutely agree with you when you say that Samsung is consistent. They managed to screw up all of Android . Not just one element...
But everyone can have their opinion. I can(and will) respect that!
Little off topic: I'm currently having €250. I have a nice little job and this number will increase. Should I buy a mid to high range phone(for example: Nexus 5) or a high end phone(for example: Xperia Z1)?
What would you do?

I'd get the Nexus, but that's just because I like updates and AOSP-like stock ROMs. I'd say if you need the camera, get the Z1, else get the Nexus.
