[Q] Interesting radio errors - someone please try to duplicate this experiment - Verizon Droid Charge

I'm running stock rooted lagfixed EE4 (PBJ Time), rooted. I was messing with the app "android system info" and saw the following errors showing up under radio:
Can't set 3g_traffic java.io.FileNotFoundException: /mnt/radio/3g_traffic (no such file or directory)
To see these errors I went to:
Android System Info > Logs, then
Menu > Log Category > Radio, and
Menu > More > Logs Verbosity > Warning
Does anybody else have these errors? I used root explorer to create a folder called radio in /mnt and it immediately created a file called "3g_traffic."
Apparently inside this is a small text file that shows either "1" when there is data traffic on the 3g radio and a "0" when it's idle. If I leave the system as R/W the errors stop. If I set the system back to R/O I get these errors:
Can't set 3g_traffic java.io.FileNotFoundException: /mnt/radio/3g_traffic (Read-only file system)
Even if I set all permissions enabled on the file to r/w/x for owner, root, and group, those errors persist.
I'd appreciate it if someone tried to duplicate this experiment and let me know their results. Android System Info is available free in the market. I'd be curious to see if I leave the file system as R/W if I stop losing signal - maybe the logs are filling and crashing the radio.
Thanks,
Dan

"To see these errors I went to:
Android System Info > Logs, then

Menu > More > Logs Verbosity > Warning"
Running same as you, can not find "Android System Info" as a folder in Root Explorer. Looked in /system and /sys but no Android.
I did add the radio folder as directed and it does have a 1 bit file inside.
What is this supposed to fix?
I live in a marginal area anyway, so yesterday I swapped to the EP3HA modem into the phone. I can not tell much difference yet. I did get to watch a 30 min tv program in Netflix after new radio. I think that is progress.

I reference "Android System Info" as an App and also said it's available for free in the market.

Many Droid Charge users complain of intermittent data connectivity. The phone will switch from a 4g/LTE signal to 3g to 1x then drop data entirely, or (when set to 3g only) switch from 3g to 1x then drop.
There were a crapload of errors in the log related to this particular folder and that file. Errors = bad. No errors = good. Doing everything as I described
stopped the errors, and stopped my data from dropping. This includes both creating the folder and leaving the system as R/W through root explorer.

My 4g was enabled and I also got a "lte_traffic" file created right away.
Not sure if this had any effect on my data dropping yet. I had a 3g signal while trying it now. Will monitor it some more later.

[Tool] SaveMyApp - Preinstall Your Apps

Tired of having to redownload and reinstall all of your apps when you reflash your phone? SaveMyApp can help.
This script will setup your phone so that after your flash to your favorite rom, all* of your apps will be install on the first boot. These apps will show up in the market too!
Also, the script will allow you to backup your /data/data folder to your sdcard and then restore it after your reflash. The /data/data is where Most of your user data is stored. This is not guaranteed to fully restore everything. This also does not backup your Google, Android, or Motorola settings; this is to improve compatibility with roms.
*The /preinstall folder is limited to 120MB, so if you have more then of apps this script will not fully work.
This should work with all phones, however it has only been tested on the Droid 2/X.
If you want to test this script on a different phone, let me know the /preinstall size and if it worked or not.

Why is there a MACOSX file when I extract the archive?
Because I am lazy and I zipped it using Mac's built in archiver.
The script isn't working right away!

First!
I'm just holding a parking spot for this post!
What a great idea...thank you for developing this, im so tired of re downloading my apps back and setting everything up...done it about 10 times in the past month between sbfing and updating the fission rom several updates in a row so thank you...will most definitely be using this when I flash roms in the future. Thanks again

Excellent program! I'm having trouble getting it to work unfortunately. When apps.sh begins to copy files from /data/apps, I get errors saying "No space left on device" after every single file it tries to copy. This is of course not true since this D2 has over 6 gigs free on the system storage.
I am running this through the window's command prompt, but I don't see much in the code that won't run on windows aside from "du" which isn't even relevant unless my app + app-private folders combined size is over 120 MB (it's not).
I'm also running Epic 2.5 if that has anything to with this.
Any ideas? Am I just doing this terribly wrong?
Thanks!

If you read the first post it states the /preinstall folder can only hold only 120mb so it you have more than that to backup it won't fully work..I'm guessing that's were the apps are being saved...

Apps are normally saved in /data/app this script copies those apks to /preinstall so that after a wipe they will automatically be installed on the first boot. Yes /preinstall is limited to about 120MB.

Do you get the "No space left on device" message instantly or after some apks were copied to the /preinstall folder?
Here's what I get

How big is your /data/app folder?
OK! I sort of have it fixed. In that I'm not getting my original error.
What I did (which in retrospect was not such a hot idea) was delete the /preinstall/ folder and then created a new one with the subfolders /app/ and /md5/. The logic behind was that I saw the script had nothing in it to clean out the original preinstall folder, and I noticed that it had silly things like NFS in it. As I said, in retrospect I should have just deleted specific items from the folder, but that's what I get for acting without thinking too much.
How bad do you think it is that I remade the preinstall folder from scratch?
Now my preinstall folder is properly populated (I think). But the data won't back up for some reason. I think it might have something to do with the if statements being broken. I'm gonna go ahead and modify your script to bypass the if/else statements and see what happens.

The NFS removal is a good call, I will append the script to check the /preinstall folder and prompt to remove the files there
The reason you are having trouble with this script looks it be like because you are not running it on the phone itself...meaning to say you are not running it via a terminal emulator on the phone nor are you running it via adb shell. The backup uses tar, which isn't on windows by default.
Actually I'm running everything through the adb shell. It's puzzling to me too. My terminal emulator for some reason doesn't have root access. At this point I think I'm just going to SBF anyway.
At any rate, I just decided to pull /data/data/ from my phone onto my HD and I will replace it after I reflash and install my programs, but before I log into my google account. Do you see any reason for this not to work?

Hmmm, you might have to check your superuser app to see if you accidently are denying su access. In adb shell do you have a $ or a #?
Backing up the /data/data folder to your HD then restoring might not work because I am not sure if it will retain the owner, permissions, etc.
I had a # in my shell. There was something slightly wonky about my root I think. At any rate my backup method didn't work so well (as you predicted) - it caused timeriffic to force close when I tried to load in my old settings via /data/data/.
I will try using this again once I've got my shiny new Fission 2.1 set up as I want.
Thanks for your attentiveness!

[Solved] HELP: Cannot get to Webtop mode in ICS!!

I have tried this on both the pure/stock first ICS leak and a custom ROM based upon that leak (ScV7) and in both cases, when I connect my Atrix 2 to the Lapdock 500, it *very* briefly displays the correct Webtop 3.0 welcome screen, and then just abandons that and jumps right into "mirror mode" with the notification bar still at the top as usual, and everything blown up to ridiculous size. Exactly ONCE it went into true Webtop/ICS Tablet mode as it was supposed to (notification bar at bottom), but every time after that it just insists on Mirror mode and doesn't under any circumstances allow me to choose Webtop 3.0, in other words ICS tablet mode.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
This turned out to be related to the "Entitlement Check" which blocked Webtop from starting up. I disabled that check and Webtop now loads correctly.

The entitlement check is a setting built into the AT&T ROM by default to check whether you have permission from your carrier to do things like Wifi and USB Tethering. Why it does this check upon connecting a Webtop accessory I'm not quite sure, but anyway...
Things you will need to disable it:
ES File Explorer (free from play store)
aSQLiteManager (free from play store)
1. Launch ES File Explorer and within its settings, grant it full root permissions (near the bottom of settings, go in and check all four checkboxes).
2. From ES File Explorer navigate upward out of your SD card and onto the root of your device, then go into Data/Data/com.motorola.android.providers.settings/databases
3. Copy the "settings.db" file found there over to your SD card
4. Using aSQLiteManager select "Open Database" and pick that settings.db file on your SD card.
5. Select "settings" from the four tables you are presented with
6. Select "Data" from the top button menu
7. You'll see a long list of crap. Hit PgDn untiul you see line 113 "entitlement_check". Hit Edit and change the value from 1 to 0.
7b. Also go to line 70 "usb_entitlement_check" and change the value from 1 to 0 as well.
8. While you're here, also go to lines 117 and 118 that start with "dun" and change them both from 0 to 1. This is not necessary for Webtop but will enable wifi hotspot tethering.
9. Exit aSQLiteManager, go back into ES File Explorer and this time copy the modified "settings.db" back into the previous/original folder from Step 2, overwriting the old file.
10. Exit ES File Explorer, reboot your device and Webtop should work as expected.
Fix for Webtop disappearing

Hello everybody.
Well, I must say I have an MB865 (AT&T Branded) quite a long time ago and just a couple of days ago I upgraded to official ICS. Loved it!
But I did not remember that the main reason I rooted my phone when it was in GB it was because wifi tethering. I remember doing something similar with SQLite modifying entitlement_check from 1 to 0, and just doing that It worked.
Now, I see, process is the same, but including now usb_entitlement_check and both lines starting with dun, so I rooted again, and already done that SQLite thing, but it's still not working.
First, I don't know if it's supposed to appear a notification when wifi tethering or usb tethering gets turned on just like it used to be like back in GB, but I'm getting no notification, only when a device "connects to my phone"
I can surf any website from my phone, and devices connecting to it say "connected" but websites don't load, nothing loads. Already tried in PC, Mac, and phones... same to all of them. Did I miss/skip something?
didnt work
Do it as described twice by change line113 from 1 to 0, phone freeze on "rethink possible" screen, must make factory reset. Firmware is 125.en.us 4.0.4 +root (mb865) reason - need for use lapdock 500 in webtop mode when connected over mobile internet connection (will popup message about entitlement check failed then go to mirror mode)
Can provide something for off that check? Maybe must rename field as "disabled"? Or one post on forum say "go to system/app and rename entitlementservice.apk and it's related file. (one other with a similar name) to .bak files and reboot." - which one works correct?

From your description it sounds as though you may be trying to edit the settings.db file right in place on your phone, which could cause a reboot/freeze. You have to make sure to copy the settings file over to your SD card, use aSQLitemanager to edit that copied file, not the original one, and then copy the modified file back to the original location, over-writing the unmodified one.
Also, make sure that line 113 does in fact say what it's supposed to, namely "entitlement_check". Sometimes this property can appear on different lines depending on the rom/firmware in use, as can the others starting with "dun". So be sure to change the right property settings.
I have the Lapdock 500 as well with the the MB865 (AT&T unlocked running on Rogers in Canada) and use it all the time without issue after having made these changes. I wouldn't bother with renaming the entitlementcheck.apk as this only half helps, allowing you to activate webtop when connected but still not providing mobile data in this mode. Doing all three of those edits to the settings.db file and then rebooting, should fix everything.
thanks for answer, - i rename entitlementservice.apk to entitlementservice.bak and entitlementservice.odex to .odexbak (as mad try change to .bak but it deny and i think lost that method also, but huh :silly: its just cause have already .bak in same directory. ) direct on same directory by giving root access to file manager then reboot and check mobile connection, it works. will check again for that but seems it already works without any entitlement checking.
I do strongly as posted, put file to sd card and make changes, line 113 was entitlement_check with value 1. after change i overwrite it to system directory but. finally must reset for get back phone to life, mmaybe i do something wrong. i do it after reset also
There is one strange what i catch is a weight of settings.db first was a 15kb but after fall and freeze then reset it was a 14kb.

In the Settings.db file, check that line 70 "usb_entitlement_check" is also set to 0 rather than 1.
I believe that in the stock ICS ROM this is how it is already set by default which is why I didn't include it in my main instruction set above in the first post. Nope I'm wrong.. just checked and on stock MB865 ROM it is set to 1, and should be changed to zero as well. I will edit my first post to include this extra step as a result.
uboat55, please let me know if this helps, although none of these changes should be causing crash/freezes in your device upon reboot, so there may still be something else going on.
may you excuse me cause i afraid for again freeze, its very hard to recover programms and other style which i use, i could hardly recover much of it, and it took much time for place icons programs, paswords etc. very hard.. i`m novice in that and dont know how easy recover all after reset. must learn that. But i check again mobile connection and can confirm that no any entitlement check found and lapdock works in webtop mode (not changed to mirror mode), seems renaming files succesful for that
In case you need another example of why CWM & Backup is useful....

Well, I followed the instructions, and saved the DB file back in the original location, and when I reboot the phone is is stuck at the 'Rethink Possible' screen. The phone is rooted (SU prompted me for changes) but is running the stock rom. Stupidly, I did not install CWM or make a backup, so how can I install a new rom or CWM or ?? to get things going again? I can go into the standard recovery / fastboot options menu.

Since you don't have a custom recovery installed, you'll have to flash the FXZ for your phone via RSD lite. Make extra sure that you have the correct FXZ because flashing the wrong one has a high probability of bricking your phone.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
I downloaded the FXZ, and it is going again

Since you don't have a custom recovery installed, you'll have to flash the FXZ for your phone via RSD lite. Make extra sure that you have the correct FXZ because flashing the wrong one has a high probability of bricking your phone.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

The computer would not recognize the phone using RSD, so I used the script found in another post on the site. Thanks for the input.

[Q] Help with Tasker please!

Feel free to move this thread or answer me whenever you can, but please help me!
I'll start telling you my specs. I've got a LG P760 Rooted and with Superluminal ROM by Antariksh (Thanks dude!)
The pictures taken with the system camera are stored in the internal SD slot, which is lacking more and more as I install apps.
I've been using Tasker for a while now yet I cannot figure out why I can't move files automatically with it.
I'm using this task:
> dir myfolder %dlfiles
> For %file Items %dlfiles() ----> syntax with %var() I found over the internet and never used before
> Move from %file to newdir
> End For
However, I get two types of error:
- if I select "Use root" nothing happens
- if I unselect "Use root" I get "Failed to rename olddirfile to newdirfile
I tried also taking away the % from %dlfiles() but still nothing to do.
SO, I decided to ask for you guys' help! Thanks a lot for every answer! :highfive:

Unable to remove Wi-Fi network

Hi, I would like to remove a Wi-Fi network from my list. It's listed as "not in range"
A long press then "forget" sequence returns "cannot forget".
After resetting the phone, the entry is unaffected.
How do I remove the entry (Z736563757265).
thanks nb

Hey, I encountered the same issue (I have this exact SSID saved that cannot be forgotten, "failed to forget network" - where did this SSID come from????) and spent some time figuring out how to remove it. Well, I actually fixed it with the 'attwifi' network but I assume the following steps would apply for you too. I have an LG G2 running stock android 4.2, rooted. Note that you will need a rooted phone in order to do this. Here are the steps I took:
1.) Get a text editor capable of running as root (I used 920 text editor, there is a permissions issue with it though that I detail later).
2.) Open /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf using your text editor. Make a backup of this file while you're at it.
3.) Find the 'attwifi' entry and rename it (I renamed it to 'attwifi2'.) You could also probably remove the entry but I didn't try that.
4.) Turn off and turn on Wifi
* Note, I couldn't turn on wifi at first once I changed wpa_supplicant's conf file. It turned out to be a permission issue - my text editor did not save the file with the correct permissions. I had to run 'chmod 777 /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf' in a terminal window to give permissions back (it probably just needs chmod 666).
5.) Find 'attwifi2' in your saved wifi list and 'forget network'. It should now be forgetten. There is no more attwifi or attwifi2.
If this doesn't work for you, then you are probably using a different version of android where the conf file is in a different path. Try grepping for attwifi via a terminal window. Another thing you can try is to run 'dmesg' in a terminal window to see the system log - this could give you a clue as to what is going wrong. Best of luck!

[Q] Trouble writing to eMMC storage

Hello. This is my first post on XDA with my new OPO.
I'm having issues writing to the user storage partition in certain situations. For example, Chrome downloads will automatically fail with a "no SD card" notification, and Total Commander gives me an "access denied" notification when I simply try to move a file from the Download folder to a folder that contains some flashable recovery .zip's (on the same partition). Javelin Browser has no problem storing downloads, on the other hand.
The device is rooted, and I'm not new to the concept of rooting. But I just can't figure out why the writing is being so fickle.
Changing around ROMs and kernels don't seem to help, and no luck with MultiROM either. Chmod and chown experiments have been unsuccessful as well (permissions just get reset back to previous values). SELinux set to Permissive doesn't do much.
I did some poking around and found out that I get logs informing that my /etc/fstab is missing. Could this be the problem?
I've been on 44S exclusively.
Looks like this ended up doing the trick:
