Hi,
I have a rooted sensation and would like to install the latest Revolution HD 3.6.3 XE rom.
I have installed roms to my Desire before no problems but when you go to the Revolution download page there are links for downloading Radios and performing checksums. This is something that I have never done before.
Can anyone tell me whether the 3.6.3 rom download is a one operation install or do I have to install other files like the radio?
If so is there an idiot proof guide to installing? I have trawlled through the Revolution post but it is 1000's of pages!
I tried to post this question on the Revolution post but I am unable to as it is reserved for experienced users only.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Dave
Concerning the cecksums:
You can verify them for example with DownThemAll, which is a Firefox downloadhelper addon.
Concerning flashing ROMs:
If you have a rooted sensation, I assume, you have done it with the revolutionary tool?
Well, if so, you should have installed the ClockWorkMod, with is a mod for the recovery menu (power off the phone - power on while pressing volume down - select recovery).
To install a ROM simply put it on the SD card. It can then be installed with CWM by performing 'install from sd'. That's it.
Two other things... sometimes the ROMs require you to perform a fullwipe. Make sure you do this before installing the ROM. Also always make sure, that you have a backup if things go wrong!
Also have a read at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200403!

Generally the Radio is separate from the ROM. Check your Radion and make sure it's up to the level the ROM needs.
Radios: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178143
Checksum is just a way of confirming what you downloaded is 100% valid. You can get MD5 checkers for Windoz and Android.
From what I remember, it's a:
CWM Nandroid (Always do this);
Update Radio (IF required);
Use the Superwipe Script (run it from CWM), it just cleans it all up;
Install the ROM via CWM;
Boot and enjoy.
There are other scripts out there to backup downloaded apps then re-install. You can also to lighten the Sense ROMs, e.g. the following is referenced in the ARHD page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217664 There are instructions in the Sense cleaner page for the right sequence.
JUST MAKE SURE you do a nandroid backup before you start anything.
Thanks,
When you say check the radio and make sure its up to the level, presumably the radio is never wiped regardless of how many different roms you try.
Does this explain why there is a recommended radio?
Dave

I believe that's the case for Custom ROMs, i.e. ROM and Radio are two separate entities. If you flash the RUU completely (the .exe) it applies an RUU specific radio. If you just keep re-flashing Custom ROMs they just use the currently installed radio.
There are a few ways to install the radio, again I believe most people recommend using fastboot, the PG58IMG.zip way is a different way and both have worked fine for me.
All the Custom ROMs should reference their "recommended" radio in the ROM thread. Usually the latest or a very recent one. Some of the RUUs if they are old will have applied a much, much older radio.
Just for ref. what is your radio ?
Hi again,
OK ive flashed a new Revolution Rom.
Ive a few queries does anyone know where I can post questions because I can't post the direct to the Revolution post.
As for my radio I think its:-
10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M
Yes: 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01 is almost the most recent. It's recommended one for CM7, the more recent one from ARHD seems to be :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098849
To quote from there:
With 3.6.x ROMs I strongly recommend flashing 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 radio.
I'm still a bit stumped by what queries you actually have.
Ok, I've run a couple of benchmarks and it comes back with a 1.18 mhz speed rating.
Also the ROM appears to be the latest one to rownliad but the version number is less than the one listed on the ROM page.
The latest one is supposed to be 3.6.3 xe but the one I've downloaded and installed is just 3.6.3.
One more thing, I would like to remove some of the stick apps such as teeter, news etc to free up some RAM. How do I do this?
You can use any of the file explorer programs to remove unwanted apps. You just have to go into the settings to check root access granted. Alson, 3.6.3 is the xe version (it installs Beats Audio) I believe 4.1.3 is the non-xe variant of ARHD.

Hi,
The CPU speed can be adjusted with the Daemon Controller.Have a look on the [OP] for a good article to explain it.HERE
There are currently 2 ARHD ROMS available.
3.6.3 which uses Sense 3.0
and 4.1.4 which uses Sense 3.5
If you want to trim down your ROMS,read up on the ROM CLEANER
It can remove all the bloatware and anything else you want, before the ROM first boots up.

A while back I rooted and flashed Revolution HD 3.6.4 on my Sensation without any issues; noticed immediate improvements, and was really pleased with the performance and battery life. Only issue was the occasional boot loop which I remedied by flashing a Bricked kernel.
Fast forward to two nights ago…
My parents also have Sensations and were not very happy with them so I convinced them let me root them which I did.
I did to their phones exactly what I did to mine, including; s-off, perma root, CWM, nandroid backup, flash ARHD 3.6.4 w/ bricked kernel.
The weird part is both of them are now having identical issues with their phones; really slow, 4hr battery life and laggy.
However…
I was sure to wipe the battery stats by draining the battery to complete shutoff, recharging to 100% (basically overnight 8hr+ charge) and erase battery stats from within CWM
I did not do a Titanium backup because a)they really didn’t have much installed, app-wise and b)I thought a fresh install would be cleaner without trying to recover any settings
I made sure to run the Revolution HD Super wipe before flashing the Rom
Installed the HTC Bricked kernel
The only thing different about their phones than my phone is they never applied the official HTC OTA major update. I went into this thinking it would not matter since we’re installing a new rom anyway but perhaps I’m wrong???
Why would two freshly-rooted phones exhibit the same issues?
I’m planning on re-flashing their phones later this week with the newer ARHD 3.6.5 rom (which I just did to mine ) hoping this will clear up any issues they’re having but want to make sure I’m not doing something wrong first…
Let me ask a more direct question.
Can I flash the new Revolution HD 3.6.5 (including the bundled faux kernel) to a phone that has not had the HTC Sense OTA update? Or will issues arise?
I think the problem is radio wise. Install the recommended radio and see if it solve the problem

Hi,
The issue is most probably the kernel.
Try installing the latest.
You have two choices.
1.faux.(in my sig)
2.bricked.(HERE)
Seeing as you have two phones to play with, why not try one on each.

I flashed both their phones with the bricked kernel when I installed the rom originally.
If the problem isn't due to the older Sense version being installed what I plan on doing is flash both phones with ARHD 3.6.5 and leave the bundled kernel installed (have the 3.6.5 with new faux on my phone and so far so good).
I can try the radio flash also but I never had to flash the radio on my phone and all three phones are identical (bought them at the exact same time; family plan-thing).

Hi,
I have never updated via OTA,and I never will.(Do not trust what it will do to my phone)
There are known issues with the bundled kernels.
Both of the latest kernels have had good reviews.
Just saying.
The OTA could've updated your radio.

Check if you have recommended radio or not. If not, flash recommended radio. Then,
Try to download ARHD 3.6.5 (check MD5), download latest kenels of your choice.
- Super wipe
- Flash Room, and reboot (just set up phone, dont set google account and facebook yet).
- If you want do flash roomcleaner: reboot into recovery and flash roomcleaner.
- If not, just reboot in recovery, wipe cache and wipe davik cache, then flash kenel of your choice.
- Reboot, set up your google account, facebook account, email account, etc...
- If phone experiences a bit lag during turning page to page in homescreen. Just reboot again. After that you can do all battery calibration, flashing mods or themes.
It may be too careful but that just to make sure I dont mess up everything with flashing.
Hope this help!

Hi,
ROM cleaner is flashed immediately after flashing the ROM, without any reboot.
Thanks for all the advice. I just got a call from my mom today saying her phone dies real fast and every time she takes a photo the screen goes black resulting in a battery-pull.
I gotta fix their ****z pronto.
I hyped the whole rooting thing up pretty good after flashing my phone, so far their experiences are pretty bad.
@ stevendph, I'll do exactly as you outlined. Thanks for the step by step.
fwiw the radio is whatever was on the phone from the time of purchase. Ill flash it as well with the 'recommend' radio.
So the consensus is to go back to the Bricked kernel and overwrite the new "updated" Faux kernel bundled in the ROM???

Yep, it's can be flashed immediately or after 1st reboot, the result will be the same as roomcleaner's function is to delete system apps, files, skin and wallpaper (which are useless or you dont use). Those also can do it manually but yes painfull .
As i stated before, it's just i am doing carefully to watch if is there anything wrong with room flashing, then continue flash other things. What i did was flash, check, flash, check... until having what neccessary -->nandroid backup, flash, check, etc . Just me to be careful
@Okors: related to kenels, just make sure you notice this.
- Faux latest kenels 0.24r1 is really good and stable (if you have 0.24 beta 7, you dont need to update, as they are same).
- Bricked kenels: v1.5 final has the problem with camera, playback video (sometimes for some devices) as blackscreen, freezing. Version 1.4r1 is really good and stable (without Zram enable). Version 1.5 beta #490 with zram, working great for me anytime including camera, playback, etc... but there are reports from someone that they have lags (i dont)...
That's all what i know when testing and reading reports about these kenels, you have the right to choose what is suite for you.
I would just flash Pyramid 3D and 0.91 Bricked, check if GPS and camera work, then call it a day. If GPS doesn't work you could always try my fix or crypted's, boh are flashable.
Pyramid 3D has been the most stable and the fastest out of all the ROMs that I've tried without having to extensively customize for myself. Honestly though, I would just flash your parents stock again. Doesn't sound like they are power users.

To be honest, I'm mostly after the improved battery life for them. You're right, they're not power users; in fact the phones are way to "smart" for them. Their biggest complaint is battery life (as was mine before I rooted).
At this point I just want to get their phones back to a stable state. It's frustrating because I NEVER had any of these issues when I flashed my phone.
Even the kernels, radios, etc didn't make 'much' of a difference. I was blessed with a really, really stable flash right out of the gate
I even updated to the latest ARHD and bundled faux kernel and my phone is rock solid.
Both of my parents are coming over tonight for dinner. I'm planning on reflashing them to ARHD 3.6.5. using the steps outlined earlier. Hopefully all goes well or it's restore-to-stock time.

Hi,
May I suggest using the 3.6.x series with the 0.9.1 bricked kernel, found HERE
I put it on my son's Sensation, and he loves the stability and battery life.
He's not a power user.
He just wants a smartphone that works.
Just a thought.
You could also try the stock rom xe by eddyos. Everything works fine and battery last for 14 to 24 hrs in medium to light usage.

Hi sensation forum...
I am new to sensation, but not new to android or HTC, as i have 4 different phones with custom firmware on them...
But the sensation give me a lot of problems for some reason...
I have tried ARHD 5.0.2 and Insert Coin 4.0.4, i have also tried Virtuous Inquisition v1.3.0 and HyperSensation CM7.1 v1.2.
The last one is not even ICS based...
All of them give me random reboot cycles...
I have tried 3 different radios also...
Nothing have helped me so far...
I still have a lot of random reboots...
(about every 2-10 min)
When i flash the firmware i use ARHD´s super delete script, but to be shure, i also format everything from within Recovery...
What more can i do here ??
Pleace,if your phone is stable, can you tell me exactly what rom/radio/kernal/ril you use...
My phone was rock stable with factory firmware....
Hey,
When installing roms on the sensation, make sure you follow the guides in the particular thread. It is also important to match recommended radios and rils that go with the specific rom. Make sure you are S-off and cid 11111111. When you are switching roms, you should only have to run the superwipe script, it will set all the partitions for you so that you can flash the rom you choose. Also, before you install ICS, it is recommended that you superwipe BEFORE installing the actual rom to prevent unwanted isssues. Before you do anything else, give me a rundown on what you are currently running.

I have exactly this issue.
I installed ICS Revolution. I had successfully got S-OFF, Installed ClockWork Recovery (updated to latest version), permanently Rooted & obtained SuperCID. I updated radio as recommnded by mike1986 in the ICS post, and wiped the phone with Revolution Super_wipe_Sensation first.
It seemed to run fine apart from Doplhin HD which refused to run properly (so switched to Opera Mobile). However I started to get random reboots.
After a bit I thought to try Insert Coin ICS instead.
I have noticed no real difference in performance and have the identical issue with Dophin HD (back to Opera mobile again).
However I also still have the identical random rebooting issue with this ROM. What else can I do?

I did that with Revolution as well as with Insert Coin this time around. Running the latest version
I'm having the same issue. Did a text book install of AHRD. Everything went super smoothly, but getting these reboots. I have tried to swipe everything, have the latest radio and recommended fw and keep getting these crashes. Not only it's driving me nuts but it makes the phone unuseable... I can't believe we're just 2 to have these problems... Isn't there some king of log we can pull to see what's causing the crash ?

I suspect it has to do with processor speed that's been tweaked in these roms, but can't seem to find a way to tune it back to stock on the ICS rom...
sorry for the late reply, been busy with holiday stuff.. anyhow, make sure you are NOT installing any mods that are not compatible with the current ICS build. I have had no problems switching between ARHD 3.6.10 and ICS 5.0.2. As long as you have s-off and CID 1111111, you should be good to go. When I changed up from 3.6.10 to ICS 5.0.2, I turned off my phone, went into bootloader, selected the option for recovery, then flashed the superwipe script. After it finished flashing that, it rebooted back into recovery. Following that, I went to install from zip, flashed the updated RUU, cleared cache and dalvik, then flashed ICS 5.0.1 and the 5.0.1 to 5.0.2 update. Everything installed smooth from there.

I also don't think it's related to CPU speed. My phone is the XE model which ran at 1.5 Ghz on stock ROM and only did about 3 random reboots in 3 months; (now it's every couple of hours).

I'm still getting the reboot on the nand backup (OrangeFR), this sucks big time. Now I'm thinking it may be due to the fw I had to install to use AHRD (PG58IMG) and the new radio. This is where I'm lost. How can I return everything to standard ? If I understand well the ROM doesn't contain those files, they are separate ?
Was thinking that my random reboots were radio or firmware related.
Strange thing is mine have stopped, and all I did was reinstall revolution ICS 5.0.1 then upgrade to 5.0.2. Didn't even wipe first. So even my apps & settings all of which I had installed & configured since I had installed Insert Coin ICS, are all still there. Haven't had a reboot since.

I switched back to ARHD 3.6.9, did a factory reset+wipe, flashed radio 10.59 and all is fine, I'm somehow reluctant to try again...
I found a solution that worked for me... At last...
I am REALLY sorry that i didn´t answer here before, but i have been really bussy, and actually forgot all about it a few days....
NOW, i also thought that i had some CPU spped issue with the roms, becource i can actually get the same kind of reboot problems on my DHD when i run it over 1500 Mhz...
So i thought that i would lock my sensation to max 900 mhz, and then see what happens... NO change... Still random reboot... Strange...
I then installed a Android 2.3 rom, just to get my phone running again... STILL random reboots...
hmmm....
Now i was confused...
At last i tried to flash a different radio one more time...
I found a radio in some other sensation thread... Flashed it and now my phone works stable...
At least with Virtuos Inquisition 1.3.0... (Proberbly the 1.4.0 will also work, but i have not tried it yet...)
The Radio i had the problems with is the one from mike´s thread...
I actually don´t know why, as i have allways had great success with his roms and his releases on my DHD...
The Radio i use now is 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035-02_2...
But sorry, i can´t remember from what thread...
Ok, this is what i have discovered on this reboot issue...
I hope it make some sense, and that this perhaps can help other with the same problems...
Try turning your phone to recovery.Backup if you havent already....Wipe Data/Factory reset then turn the phone off....
Remove the back cover and the SDCARD.Turn the phone back on and see if it runs ok without the SDCARD, if it does reformat the sd using 4ext recovery and it will also align it.
I spoke too soon.
My phone didn't reboot for a day after I switched back to Revolution ICS 5.0.2 for about a day, then today it began doing random reboots every few minutes. I had not changed any software, just the area (which might have changed signal and frequency the cell tower uses). So I figured it was time to change firmware and radio.
I had previously (prior to installing custom ICS ROM) flashed the radio to 10.58.9035.00U_10.15.9035.02_2 as recommended by Mike1986 in the Revolution HD ICS thread, and had HBoot 1.7.1111 on my device.
I then downloaded the firmware he posted on his thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
This has put the phone back to HBOOT 1.20.0000 and radio 11.15.3504.16_M
Now it's working well and no reboots yet.
Here's hoping.. time will tell.
No matter what radio or Rom combo I get random ass reboots
Super annoying. I did notice the battery goes from 100% to 10% during this reboot
I have calibrated battey. Wiped stats. I'm lost.
I have even tried a new battery. Wtf. Any ideas?
i cant even flash stock ruu I get a 171 error!!!!
Im gonna throw this phone at the f-ing wall in a min
if you flashed newest radio 11...x.x..., you have to have newest hboot also (1.20.. , i guess). otherwise, you will get random reboot. I had this issue before, and i just flashed order radio( i don't want to update hboot version). problem is solved

I need help figuring out how to fix some of these problems on my htc sensation 4g, its rooted with the android revolution hd, has andriod version 4.0.3, sense 3.6 and, running 6.3.0 software. Well, you could try reflashing the rom. Download Mike's Super Wipe from the ARHD thread and super wipe before installing the rom. Then install, and you should be set. I'm on ARHD 6.3.0 and everything works fine.

You might need to install the right firmware package (different from the rom). Find the newest version from the link in the ARHD thread (i think 3.30) and install it. Also try reflashing the rom (don't forget to suprwipe) and if you use Titanium backup make sure to not restore system data, as it will cause problems when transferred among different roms.

You could try using an RUU to restore everything back to stock before reflashing. Also, use recovery to wipe (format) the partitions to ensure nothing is left when flashing. If everything works after running the RUU, then try reflashing (double check the guides to make sure you followed all the steps).
Don't forget to check all md5 checksums after downloading files, as occasionally they download incorrectly.

ok, im not gonna lie, even though im new to all this, im a little precautious of what im going to do to my phone.. so can you please post some steps on how you are suggesting i should try fixing it, i dont want to do things all out of order and end up bricking my phone. it would really help if you would post some steps on how to do this so, i aoppreciate it alot.
If you want to go the route of restoring to stock (which I recommend), first you'll need to download an RUU from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
Find the one that matches the carrier/region of your phone. If you are unsure, post your CID and I can help you choose the right one. You can find your CID by searching the CID checker app in the market.
Don't forget to make a backup in recovery and backup any important data from your phone. The RUU completely resets and clears all data from your phone (excluding SD card).
Once it is downloaded, simply run the exe, plug your phone into the computer, and follow the instructions it gives you (all you have to do now is press next several times).
After this your phone will be completely reverted to stock. If you still have problems (very unlikely) then you need to send it in for warranty as it is most likely a hardware problem. If everything works, you can either stay on stock or reflash whichever ROM you want.
If you have any questions about the process, please post them and I'll post more detailed instructions.

Those are the software versions of the ROMs. The idea in that thread is that you flash the file relevant to the version number. Custom ROMs for SENSE are usually built off of an original "stock" version of HTC sense. HTC Sense has gone through some small tweaks etc over time (usually to promote stability). The Custom ROMs threads will normally state what version they built their ROM off of.
You should be able to see this number when you check "About Phone" in settings. it may have more numbers after it ie 2.31xxxx
However, that thread hasn't been updated recently. Some HTC ROMs and Custom ROMS are 2.35 or even 2.4. If you attempt to flash those camera files at a higher ROM version, just make sure you do a NANDROID backup first, just in case you need to go back and restore.

ok thanks
Hi guys,
First of all my apologies for posting this here, and not in the ViperS development topic. I have been reading a lot on the forums for over a year now, but only registered today, and therefore I am not able to post in that thread (10 post minimum rule). I have tried searching the topic and similar topics, but I have not found anything.
The issue is the following: when flashing the newest version (1.5.2) of ViperS, my digitizer does not work anymore. The LCD itself and hardware buttons work fine.
Some additional info:
* Device info:
- HTC Sensation XE
- coming from ViperS 1.3.5
- XxXPachaXxX 3.0.16 kernel (currently know as the PYD kernel)
- S-OFF
- HBOOT 1.27.1100
- 4ext v1.0.0.5 RC8
* what i've tried already:
- Flashing again, both with and without wiping dalvik/cache/factory reset
- Flashing another sense ROM, works fine
- 4ext touch recovery works fine
- MD5 check, correct every time
* I do get "Status 0/Installation aborted" errors every time I install a ROM (actually when aroma wants to reboot). This does not have an effect on the other ROMs i've flashed.
* It's worth noting that the digitizer has been replaced 2 weeks ago, but works perfectly on any other rom.
Thanks in advance guys!
Did you try 'factory reset' prior to the flash?
Edit: also recheck MD5 checksum of the downloaded rom.. weird sh*t happens when the download is corrupted.

So Viper 1.3 works but 1.5 doesn't?
That is weird.
Try to download a fresh copy of the Viper ROM and start over. Even if you have matching MD5 sums on the copy you have, just delete it and start over. A fresh download can be a miricle cure sometimes.
Also, instead of flashing over your existing 1.3 version, try a full wipe and fresh install. See if that makes a difference.
If that doesn't work maybe it's some kind of strange kernel compatibility issue with the new digitizer. Maybe something from the kernel you are installing with Viper 1.5 isn't up to date for the latest replacement digitizer parts? (I'm admittedly reaching on this one...) I don't know if you are using the stock kernel that comes with Viper or immediately flashing a new kernel prior to boot.
Just as an experiment, try flashing another kernel that's compatible with Viper and see if it fixes your problem. If you're flashing a customer kernel right after installing the ROM, skip that part next time. If you're using the stock kernel, try a different one. Any different one.
If that doesn't help, post back here and at least we'll have ruled one thing out. And since that's easy enough to try it should be simple to test.
@Raven2k: my initial posts states that I have already tried both your suggestions, so no luck on that. Thanks for helping though.

I have downloaded the ROM three times now, always with a correct MD5 sum (checked with 4ext). Also, my steps when flashing a new ROM are always the same:
1. backup
2. full wipe + wipe dalvik/cache (unless upgrading is specifically mentioned as an option).
3. install with full wipe (unless upgrading is specifically mentioned as an option)
Trying a different kernel is indeed a good idea, I'll try that tomorrow (it's 1:30am here). As far as I know, ViperS uses the bricked kernel, and the ROM i tried (elegancia) uses the stock one. I'll try several tomorrow, and give you an update .
I meant redownload and check MD5 again, sorry. Md5 errors are not probable, but they still do occur. Also, I would suggest reflashing 4ext recovery. It seems very weird to have errors for every rom being flashed.
Also, one more thing you can do is try booting vipers without your sdcard. The one thing not being formatted and cleared is the sdcard content which contains some app data etc.

My wife had viperS 1.4.1 on her sensation XE and a several days ago her screen stopped responding.
It was fine in recovery but when the ROM was booted up it just didn't work, so it was stuck at the lockscreen. I fully wiped everything and flashed the latest version of viperS and it still remained the same. Tried booting with the SIM card and SD card removed - still the same.
I fully wiped again and flashed a different ROM (Elegancia 3.7.0 - which I have had on my XE since it was released and I know to work well) and the screen worked fine, but she did have a few random reboots.
I then fully formatted her SD card using Gparted 2 days ago and (fingers crossed) it has been fine ever since.
I have no idea what the problem was, but I feel it was caused by the viperS ROM and that it affected the SD card too.
I'm not criticizing ViperS as I've used it before and know it's a great ROM, but I cannot be 100% sure that using it does not carry the risk of problems such as this.
Ok guys, sorry for my late reply. Due to the holidays and a trip to germany last week i did not have much time to do the flashing. Flashing an new kernel helped, I am now on ViperS 1.6 (which did not work out of the box, but after installing the bricked kernel it works .
Thanks to all for the help!
