Alas, it's not perfectly optimized since you use up to jump instead of circle, but I've already contacted the developers to see if they'll move the exit game button to menu and make back jump (... as well as a few other things like putting it in the game launcher and giving the option to hide onscreen controls)... still, it works kinda nicely as is!

Looks like Castle Vania.. I don't like that game but since this is free I will definitely try this..

...don't... like... Castlevania?! What is this I don't even.
lol i jest... that's fine... different strokes for different folks.
Just out of curiosity though, which "type" of the Castlevanias made you dislike them? If it's the super slow older style CV games (or Castlevania 64) I can understand then... or do you just hate em all?

My all time faves are Castlevania Symphony of the Night & Metroid Fusion. I'll have to try this out! =)

Nah... I just notice a lot of people who hate Castlevania because of the *older style* of them. While some can tolerate the old style CV games, most think they are sluggish, antiquated, choppy and contain a lot of "fake" difficulty (which is usually just horrid physics combined with poor mechanics and terrible coding to make it harder than it needs to be) and it's very understandable why people would dislike those.
...my point is that those same people who hate the old style of CV games often end up loving the new style where Castlevania is turned into an Adventure/Platformer/RPG hybrid.

looks fun will try it out

This game is like fried chips. It's not good for anything (poor atmosphere, Engrish, prehistoric game mechanics and ridiculously easy difficulty) but it's addictive.

Worst game ever played, choppy game play, poor music, easy, poor chinese to english translation( at least it's wat i can think of). the most important part is, it can't be play when you're not connected to internet, and continue force me to play on chapter 2 (before Cerberus battle, which is er....buolosi, wat a crappy name)while i already reach chapter 4.

Yeah, gameplay has potential, and it's pretty, but ridiculously easy, and the English literally makes no sense.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App

Honestly, I expected the translation to be ass... now that I think about it, every Metroidvania after Symphony of the Night had some very "WTF?" cutscenes too that didn't make the story engaging at all...
...and that's what I expected... lame, unengaging story, topped with extravagant gameplay... and the actual game is definitely very fun.

One thing is an extraneous sentence from time to time, and another thing is the inability to follow the story. If the stories were completely moot, Alucard and Samus Aran would not be myths of gaming.

There's a reason I excluded Symphony of the Night in my above note.
As for Metroid... this might just be my opinion, but it seems no one really cared about the storyline in any of those games either. Super Metroid is the only traditional canon Metroid game that *kinda* had a somewhat developed story... for ages, Samus had barely any developed character or backstory... and when they actually tried to flesh it out (Metroid: Other M) people hated them for it.
I'm just sayin'... as much as this game could've benefitted from a good storyline (or a good enough translation so that we could care about it) people generally care more about the gameplay aspects than they do the characters or storyline.
Unless they have it in recent memory or specifically did a google search just to recall some detail, people might be hard-pressed to remember those subtle details about Super Metroid's storyline, but they sure as hell remember how rewarding it felt to get the Plasma Beam, Super Bomb, Super Missle, Screw Attack, the suit that allows you to withstand all that insane heat in Norfair and the ability to run at high velocities... vividly; no matter how long ago it was.

Stupid Modern Combat 2 Controls? I think I found a way...

From reading these two threads (THIS and THIS), I assume no one has yet discovered this. But if someone else had come up with this solution before me, then make yourself acknowledged now.
I just found this out last night when I was trying to get myself used to the new controls (BUT I REALLY CAN'T) because I haven't really finished this game before the new update came out... and jeez I bought it 5 months ago! Unluckily for me, the original installer disappeared so I requested another from Gameloft and they gave me the updated one with the stupid controls. This is for anyone still interested to play the game despite it being old, though a still good shooter for the Xperia PLAY imo.
I noticed that when using the Left Touchpad to walk while using the Right Touchpad to aim, it seems there is a conflict on the way the game registers the touch inputs that is why we have a ****ty aiming control.
RULES:
Use the D-Pad instead of the Left Touchpad to walk.
Do not use the Right Touchpad to aim. Instead, use the part in between the two touchpads: that Hourglass-like figure between them. They seem to mimic Rainbow Six controls. Refer to photo:

It's not a very good fix but it should do the trick. I had difficulty passing To the Embassy Mission because of the aiming controls, but it became so easy last night. Besides, you still have easy access to Reload, Switch Weapon, Grenade, and Use buttons instead of using the touchscreen.
Try it out for yourselves and let me know what you guys think. I'm using MC2 version 1.0.0 (that ****ty version) so it must work with you, too.

Can't you post a video playing it so we can see? I don't know if I wanna download the whole game again just to try ^^
I've played Fast Five on my iPhone. it sucked... imo
MC2, the best game to use our touchpad.. OooOoOooppss.
Narf, you sure that the part in between will work on our control problem? I'll try this since I really want to finish this game.. But for now I'm thinking what game to delete first on my phone..
i second that
i second thaat post a video of you playing with those controls
I always use the D-Pad to move than then the right touch to aim, as long as I have a light touch and I use auto-target it works well enough to finish the game. Also I sometimes use the left trigger to bring up the gunsight and make fine adjustments on the fly.
If I am using a mounted gun of some sort I just use the touch screen with my right forefinger and hold the Play with my left hand, and click the right trigger with my left forefinger, works pretty well.
It could be better but its really not THAT bad, I play this game online almost daily and hold my own pretty well.
Well i guess it kinda depends on your preference though. I find it easier this way that's why i wanted to share it.
Just finished the game 2day. Perfect MW clone. Haha
Try it RL & let me know how it is..
It doesn't work for me :S
The area between the touch pads?
Simple solution; revert back to 3.3.9.
The controls aren't great there either, but they're so much better it doesn't even make any sense.
How's Gameloft gonna upgrade and make something worse? Surely there's a play-tester there that checked this out and said "Um... guys? This controls like ass! You can't seriously expect people to accept this."

Actually, you'd be surprised.
Many many moons ago I was a play tester for Acclaim entertainment. They ported over a 3DO game to Sega Saturn and PSX called "D" that I went there to play test for a few hours. It was one of those old kinda linear first person puzzle adventure games. One of the first things I noticed and wrote down was that the game into included shots from the game, and a LARGE portion of them gave away the solutions to the puzzles in the game. I managed to beat the game in my first play through because of it. So of course when they asked for my feedback I said "well you gave away all the solutions to the puzzles in the intro, you need to either cut that whole part out or change it to not show puzzle solutions" A couple other testers who were there told them the same thing.
4 months later and the game was out on Saturn and I worked in a video game shop so I tried it out, and of course, there was the intro with all the puzzle solutions. They just never learn.

(I remember that game, BTW! - My dad was a big Sega Saturn nut and he owned it... I think he still does too)
well at least we're making things meet with what we have.. what else could we ask for when this is what they gave us? we're not game devs, we're just customers trying to enjoy things, and if the offer doesn't give what we expect, we improvise.. apart from that, it's what makes us the higher mammals..
QUOTED FROM XPERIA Blog's Xperia PLAY – six month review
The analogue pads are a nice idea too, although we feel that in most games they haven’t been implemented too well. Hopefully, this will improve over time as developers get used to the hardware.

PS: I lost (didn't even know how) my 3.2.8 installer of the game so I made this thread to help out others like me. GL gave me 1.0.0 version when I asked them for an installer so if you have other solutions other than making things meet with the 1.0.0 version then better keep them to yourselves.

I'd say I agree with the notion that not enough developers are using the touchpads right, but the more rational-logical case seems to be that Gameloft's just being their usual incompetent selves...
...it's just very bad timing now since, like it or not, they are the biggest and most popular support the Xperia PLAY has.
Looking at a larger scale, most other devs ARE making good use of the analogs touch-pads. Samurai II Vengeance and Age of Zombies play like a dream. Dead Space is wonderful, AirAttack HD plays so smoothly that it made me get into a genre a typically don't like. DARK and Guerilla Bob work well, the Guns n Glory series and PewPew series flow very naturally.
Glu won't stop making games that are actually alternate Gun Bros skins for the life of them, but their games do work well with Xperia PLAY analogs. All the sports games control very nicely. Spacetime's MMOs play nicely, and Silvertree's quickly becoming a major player in the Xperia PLAY scene as well.
Gameloft actually has some good touchpad controls too. Sacred Odyssey force closes like it's goin' outta style, but damn that game feels good to play. BackStab, Assassin's Creed, Dungeon Hunter 2, Spider Man: Total Mayhem and especially AVATAR also have great controls.
AVATAR? I don't know... I'd have to disagree...

I was a big Saturn guy too, to the point I bought a Japanese one! Amazingly I was able to sell it for WAY more than I expected after the Saturn was discontinued and Dreamcast released.
Speaking of D though, Its funny back then because it had all that FMV it was like "ohh ahh" and sold pretty well, but also like many games of that era, it has aged quite poorly. Today if a console game was released like that, that literally could be played through in one 2 hour sitting (and was played in real time with no pause or save), the devs would be vilified!

A bit pricey... but now that I've mustered up the strength the buy it, I'm definitely glad I did! It's quite a lot of fun, has a decent array of techniques to keep things fresh... and yeah, it totally out-SMB'ed Pixeline
The Giana Sisters is the original SMB clone..they got into a lot of crap years ago, from nintendo, due to it.
This is one of the best games on Commodore64
Say what?! Yay!!
Giana Sisters was one of my absolute favorite C64 games back in the day. And yeah they got into a load of crap by Nintendo for being such a obvious rip-off.
The irony though is that Giana Sisters now has been released on the Nintendo DS.
An excellent game, well worth the money
I've picked this one up now and it plays very well. A great chance to own this if you never had the extremely rare DS version.
This is probably the best and most full featured game released on the Play so far. We all must support our device so since everyone here is a dedicated user PLEASE all pay the amount, which is slightly high for a throwaway phone game, but very low compared to the £40 I paid for the rare DS game (which it was worth) BUT this is not a throwaway phone game, this is a full featured console port from the DS and will last you for weeks!
We must support developers bringing full console games to the Play. In my book this is the first TRUE major release!
Also do not pirate this or any other Play games, we must keep sales strong so developers keep seeing us as an attractive Market.

I did not know this.
I believe the game was banned on c64. It was only released in Germany on DS as they wanted to keep it small worrying about what big N did to them before. It's been extremely rare on both previous consoles so we are lucky to be able to play it on toilet breaks in work
Are you serious? A Super Mario clone already available on iOS is the first major release of anything?
Seriously, people, we're not getting more than cheap ass games lately, but that doesn't mean we have to cheer for them.

Who said anything about this being a major release? Its a decent game, but also one of those "Seen better, seen worse." cases. What's the point of raining on people's enthusiasm if we just so happen to be enjoying a well-done clone?
"Already being on iOS" does not detract merit... not one bit.
If ya haven't been tuned in, touch controls are complete **** for most genres (platformers being one of the worst) to the point in which developers admit to watering down or subtracting from thr experience just to make a game work with touch controls, so anything Xperia PLAY adapts from iOS is something that's automatically a superior experience.
Relax, bro...it ain't that serious; its all fun n games, nahmeen?

I don't care if it was out on iOS as a lot of console ports are there that we don't have. This is a great first step and an awesome game. Platform games with touchscreen is AWFUL. Imagine how amazing XPlay Soosiz would be.
I bought Giana Sisters when it hit iOS and it was unplayable due to control issues. So it's hardly the same when this is a 9/10 release and the iOS was 3/10 cause of control being so poor

Maybe a little hyped up and over the top but it is important to remember it is a port of a DS game. This was originally a £30 DS game and received very good review scores. The iOS version was a port of the DS game too, so it's a little different from just any old iOS game that was originally made for that platform and released for £3.
I loved the game on DS so perhaps was over the top like I said so sorry for letting my nostalgia run wild!
That is a nice comment by the way I'm just glad to have somewhere to share my enthusiasm for the device. I love seeing new posts here and ive picked up a few from posts here too. Perfect forum to compliment Pocketgamer.co.uk as the best XP review site IMO

IRUNA Online
Conquer 3 Kingdoms RPG
Conquer 3 Kingdoms is a ridiculously fun hybrid of games like Streets of Rage(Knights of the Round) and common Action RPGs. LeTang Inc. seems to have a sweet tooth for that genre. As for IRUNA, my jaw just dropped. We JUST got a fresh new MMORPG to play on our Xperia PLAYs yesterday! ...and now we have another one with some nice Japanese art-style influence. I've also completely re-did the XperiaPLAYGamer site layout to celebrate Xperia PLAY passing 300 games!
Also like to extend a VERY big thanks to jgregory1 for giving me the tip that Iruna was released in English.
That's awesome !
I'm a proud owner of the Xperia Play
Any chance for an apk of the mmo as its not available my country
Just spent an hour playing Iruna and its fun. I hae played the crap out of Elemental Knights online and it was nice playing something different, not too much... they are virtually the same.. but fun. Anyone happens to be playing either EKO or Iruna and sees a character named BloodMyst thats me. Hope to see your online counterparts on the MMOs.
Oh also TL... dont know if this is also on the games list but its by the same company that makes King Fighter, etc
Its simply called "Tank War 2012"
and yes it uses the control...no touchy just the directional and x buttons.

No luck on the touchpads. It uses the d-pad though... and I'm sure the Xperia PLAY compatibility isn't a "general keyboard" fluke either because it integrates the shoulder buttons for camera control.
It is completely free to download and free to play though... and what was even more badass is that it just uses your gmail instead of requiring a separate registration process.. I really hope that becomes more of a norm
I tried it and it seems its free only because its an alpha; anyway, it wasn't that much of an enjoyment for me; the controls are also really sketchy.

To each their own. I don't expect everyone to love IRUNA, or even like it as much as I do.
I do agree that the controls could use some improvement though. D-pad movement works okay, the target/confirm X system works okay, Using L/R for the camera works okay... everything only works okay, not as great as they could. I really want to see this control like Pocket Legends with full left analog movement and the right analog controlling camera rotation/zooming.
I emailed the maker of Iruna asking about furher developing the xperia PLAYs controls. Waiting to hear back, if they reply I will let yall know what they say.

Omg Iruna looks amazing. But why the hell its says incompatible with mine?

reminds me of PSO
And CelesArca is porningly similar to Skies of Arcadia in its looks.
All the ways lead to Dreamcast.

CelesArca Online: (This one looks visually to be my favorite, looks a lot like Eternal Sonata for XBOX & PS3)

Its quite obvious these are both MMORPG games and I am looking forward to seeing them get a English translation..

The game's not available in my country xD. I actually found it by checking the version number on the playstore then googling for it. Dumb country restrictions

Agreed. I really do not understand why they restrict items. I mean I have korean friends that cannot download the korean apps/games unless they reboot with a modified build.prop and market enabler... and they live in the US... but because items are market restricted....yup stupid.
What do you think of the game?
Is Conquer 3 Kingdoms free or "freemium"?

I am doing well my friend. How have you been? I hope your hands are doing better.
Yup, I'm well too, and hands are much better, thanks for asking .
And about topic - game downloaded and tested - it's preety nice, all buttons are optimized etc. (even touchpads!), but I'm thinking is this possible to run in the future (via some skill or something) - in start, I can't which means the game little less dynamic and fun. Except that - with not so big size (~160mb) - it's worth it .
Nice game, Needs some bug fixes but fully optimized and don't look bad either. Thanks for the heads up on this one.
PS WHO EVER IS GOING ROUND 1 STARING GAMES IN THIS XDA SECTION F********************CK OFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!! THIS SECTION IS FOR GAMERS
(noticed the mods for UI and stuff have 5stars) so if your reading this go buy a nexus or some other generic device to pleasure yourself with!!
PS. sorry to just place this in a random thread but could not be bothered to write out a thread and this comment saying thanks. :silly:
I noticed the same with 1star in many threads...But don't think too much about it buddy - I had the same feels when I worked on DX8 for X10 - my thread has all possible degrees/stars, cause of some haters. We can't do anything - these guys are just f*ckers and they will stay - just chillout and still do yourself - cause you're doing this for 100 stars for me .
Woo.. Thats 1 hell of a statement. But yeah, y bother with all that. Don't matter much to me. What matter is what this thread contents.
To topic - And the game's kinda slow to me. So i'll just transfer this to my laptop to all my finished/bored/un-playable games collection.

Horrible game, bland and totally forgettable.
I can't see anything I would recommend this game for. Not a patch on Castlevania games.
Uninstalled after a couple of minutes of gameplay.
Installed twice times... and my xperia play controls don't work. I don't know why.
Running in Gin2JB, DoomKernel v14...

You know what's interesting about this post? I was promoting this game on another forum in which one of the responders judged it after putting in an insignificant amount of time... and later changed their tune completely after they'd actually invested enough to give a proper judgement.
I'm just sayin'... if we all made our conclusions and gave up in the first couple minutes, no one would have seen Taken (2008) turn from "meh" to the action flick of the year.

If anything, I'd chalk it up to the non-stock rom/kernel. Every time I hear that something's not working right, it's usually easy to discover that the ROM of question has the inputs configured too strangely for the software to detect it (but it's mostly O/Back conflicts).
Unrelated to the above two posts, I'm trying to figure out ahead of time how many chapters this has. I understand using the limited free game to lure in people who are cheap, but I wish they'd have followed a more traditional way of IAP so that I could just pay one time to get all chapters instead of buying chapter by chapter.
@TLRtheory: LOL you got me there. OK I'll admit perhaps I did not invest enough time in it. Got to the first boss, beat it and said to myself: There is no way I could find this enjoyable.
Trust me I have seen enough ****, er I mean games, to be able to decide at this early stage if a title will amuse me or not.
BTW even the Castlevania games (which this is trying to mimic) I found boring after a few hours.
I actually could not force myself to finish them without applying some cheats. YMMV.
I'm running this game fine with Gin2JB & Doomkernel. No probs at all. I didn't Play this as much coz it kinda slow for me. But i'm really enjoying "Wild Blood" tho.

lol that makes more sense. You actually are far from the first I've seen that's easily bored with Castlevania games so I can definitely see how it's imitator would be an instant turn-off. Despite paying full price for CoD: Zombies and making a big deal out of getting Dead Trigger on Xperia Play, I'm actually very tired of seeing all the damn zombie games.

Well then there goes my theory lol... Wild Blood is awesome though. If I didn't have a date in a few then work immediately after, I'd have already had that on XperiaPlayGamer with video coverage
I had the chance to play this since it is free to play now and i am a big fan of these type of games.
Initially very laggy, i have to turn on swap partition to remove lag.
If you are used to this genre or if you give some effort, you would not need to pay anything. The character starts out to be totally bland, but slowly gains castlevania type movements in the game. Has ghost n goblins style jump (hard to control jump while in mid air). Has weird double jump movement, doing the double jump early gives more momentum than doing it at the peak of the jump.
The guns are too powerful, i only used the sword on some plot boss where hitting him with anything gives him temporary invulnerability or when doing some self-restricted challenges.
Grinding is easy since there is a spell that grants you gold on every hit. You can rack up experience by repeating easy boss fights.
The translation is hilarious, so bad its so good.
Not all demons fight. For example, if you have EnbornX, you can get an item from a Demon, otherwise he just spouts nonsense about girls in outer space. One demon even challenges you to jump over some creates. This is actually harder than some boss fights >_<. I learned to control my jump with the air kick lol.
Not as good as Castlevania/Metroid and the like, but still decent.

Yeah me too! Holy hell you're fast bro! Looks great, downloading now!
Sweet! Been waiting for this to be released, thanks for letting us all know.
Just got time to play it and can say its EPIC :victory: best wipeout clone so far and runs sweet on Xperia Play. They have optimized the game well too (Not many buttons to press) with the Xperia Plays buttons showing on-screen in menus and config views so was in their plans when they developed the game. A must buy if anyone was wondering
Wow, excellent find! It looks great and runs pretty well but I was really blown away by the amount of depth to it. Just wanted to point out that this is one of the few games out there that can handle incoming phone calls without losing its ****; the game simply pauses itself and resumes when you are ready.
Do want to ask though: how the hell do you use the gravity rippers? It says simply boosting does the trick but I can't seem to take out obstacles even with tool kits picked up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Is this better than Proxotide?

We have been busy with are new project (Our web site mark 2) and have had very little news to say about Xperia Play so have lost a little interest in XperiaGamer.com to tell the truth.
I have been active still on Xda as 80% of are readers are here anyway and we still have love for our Xperia Plays. But after 2 years we really wanted to brake out of the small market of one specific device and open a site up for everyone that loves real mobile gaming on Android.
We plan not to be another run of the mill angry birds type of Android site, we want our new site to be about Android and gaming hardware just how games should be played (I.e Xperia Play, Moga, Ouya, Gamestick, Green throttle, etc, etc).
Inspired by the king of Android gaming (Xperia Play) we wanted to follow and talk about how the industry can build apon it and evolve into something better for everyone.
So sorry we have not updated in a while.

Blahh I've let it slide for too long; this game is absolute paymium garbage. You need to collect toolkits to power up your ship and these powerups are a pretty integral part of the game. Well you can only hold a certain amount of toolkits and with each ship you unlock you're charged more toolkits for upgrades. What this means is that by the end of the game only the first (slowest) ship is viable because you cannot afford the upgrades for the others. Just to be clear these are not upgrades in the traditional sense of: buy this to increase your acceleration. The upgrades are necessary for completing goals and advancing. The only way to hold more tool kits is to pay money. Sorry for the out of place sentences and what not, I have food cooking, but **** this game. Incredible gameplay, ****head developers.

Do you remember the rank we have to achieve to get more than 20 toolkits in our storage? For lower ranks, the maximum toolkits you can hold is 20 & the better hovercrafts need atleast 50 toolkits for upgrades.
Also, are the gold skins unlocked as we gain better ranks or are they unlocked through IAP's only?
