hi,
Ive currently got prime installed and im selling it. Will a factory reset in the settings be enough?
I dont want my data still leaking about.
Thanks
Rather unroot and flash a factory ROM if possible. But factory reset is eniugh, Be sure you remove everything from your internal storage first

Noobish Question but when factory reset is mentioned, does it mean factory reset from the settings or from the options before the cold boot occurs?
Also, is there a way I can keep my data even through the reset? e.g. my dark Meadows save file, can I copy everything onto an sd card and then copy it back into the internal storage after the reset?
Device isn't overly slow but gapps keeps crashing and the browser ain't too fast, especially in terms of javascript. Also do get some lag

Both factory resets are exactly the same. If you're rooted, you can back up your data with Titanium, move the Titanium folder to a hard drive or SD card and then back to the tablet.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately i'm not rooted so i'm guessing i'm gonna lose all my data?
Is there a way to speed up internet/ javascript in browser?

You could use the Asus AppBackup app to back up the data instead of Titanium. You won't need root for that.

Wouldn't factory reset remove that data?

Not if you check "copy backup to external sd"

Would that be a bad idea though? As in,would restoring data make the factory reset less effective?

It may. The point is to use the tablet a bit before restoring anything to make sure the factory reset worked. If the factory reset fixes your problem, reinstall the apps without the data. If you still don't have problems, restore the data. If you start experiencing problems again, just start over, and this time, don't restore any data. If you don't experience more problems, you're good to go.
Hello everyone,
When I first got my TF300T I rooted it, and then turned on the encryption under settings. Later I unlocked it because I wanted to switch to Cyanogen Mod.
I managed to install clockworkmod recovery, but then discovered that it could not detect my card. After doing some research I realized the encryption was interfering.
I've been ripping my hair our here because it looks like there is no way to remove the encryption. I also cannot perform a factory wipe. No matter what I do nothing seems to effect the encrypted data.
Is there any way to remove the encryption, wipe the data, anything? I'm not concerned with the data already on my tablet, I plan to wipe it anyway so just wiping the encrypted data is fine.
Please somebody have an answer for this problem.
Dave

I have seen others with encryption problems on Asus tablets who ended up doing an RMA process to correct this issue. I am sure there is a way to completely wipe the tablet, however I will leave that to someone here with more knowledge.
Have you tried a factory reset on it yet?
Yes I have. Neither the factory reset under settings nor clockwork recovery is able to touch the encrypted data.

Here you are, found this on google. Maybe some of the information in here could help you out!

I had similar problem. After several tries of factory reset, encryption was gone and then I could install CM.
I can confirm a factory data wipe will remove the encryption.

Hmm... several tries?
Could the fact that I installed clockwork recovery be messing with the factory reset?

I had to wipe ALL memory from the tablet. Including Internal Memory, but it worked. Next I had to flash new recovery and rom via fastboot and adb.
Worked for me
Booting into the ROM and selecting "erase user data" worked for me. The "erase user data" might not be the exact wording, but there isn't any other option closely worded that way. You can't miss it. Thanks for the help!:victory::highfive:
So I did a factory reset on my friend's note 10.1 and was surprised that it stayed at android 4.1.2
Her note was lagging a bit and I thought that the cause was when I updated the tablet to 4.1.2 as soon as it was opened so we did a factory reset.
No lag anymore now but I was hoping to have it back in the very very beginning and have her use it as it is then update it after a few weeks.
Has anyone else tried this?
The new rom is now the only rom on the note 10.1... If you install a custom rom and do a factory reset it will still have the custom rom on it. To hold over 1Gb of rom in memory in case you want to go back is a waste of memory...
Factory reset cleans data only and all stuff you put dont do any downgrade on software.

Ah i see. It would be a waste of space to keep the old version so it was completely deleted when I upgraded her tablet. Makes sense now. I'll look at factory reset differently now.
I am probably going to have to return my N5 due to issues with the GPS not working all the time. My phone is not rooted. What then is the safest and easiest way to backup everything? And will a factory reset afterwards be enough to protect my data from being accessed while the phone is in for repair? It is an unroofed phone.

Helium backup (available in Play) is good for backing up user apps and its data, can be used on rooted and not rooted devices.
I would just copy your SD card using GDriveSync to Google Drive. It can sync which folders you choose.
That's a couple of great ideas. Thanks.
Just checking,if I do a factory reset will that be enough to protect my data from being seen?

If you do it through the Settings app, I think so, yes.
But don't quote me on it, haven't tried it personally.

Settings app uses recovery to factory reset. And stock recovery wipes everything in /data

Sorry, I don't quite understand. If I go Settings>Backup and reset>Factory Data Reset. Is that enough? What is the Stock recovery?
Yes.

Ah, sorry, just re-read your reply and it makes sense now! Thanks!
Hey guys/girls, could anybody please tell me the best way of erasing personal info and "almost" going to factory settings but still retain the erased kill switch?
I'm on stock lollipop OS rooted with TegraOTA.apk deleted, but I have stock recovery, and do not wish to flash lollipop again so what ever is the easiest way without any chance of being stuck in situations requiring reflashing etc.
I noticed a backup and restore options in settings app, so maybe that's where to start?

factory reset works fine
Awesome thank you, please excuse my ignorance. I'm sure this is really trivial stuff but I don't want that ota kill back.

If you want to be sure that no old data is accessible, best would be to encrypt the the tablet first and then perform the factory reset.
Of course, always a good idea to verify that the TegraOTA folder/.apk are still gone after the reset.

Its not really that important tbh, I am personally keeping the tablet so it was just a case of cleaning it up without a firmware update, so a factory reset from recovery is the best way then?
