Had a little bit of free time today, so I decided to see about making a nice professional-looking boot animation. What you'll find here is the result... This is my first attempt at making any sort of animation of any kind, so I'm quite open to comments/suggestions/feedback.
"So what happens in this animation?" you ask.
I'll tell you.
The quad-color X logo smoothly fades in on top of a black background, and it gradually falls backward to take its rightful position inside the phrase "nexus one" as the letters fade in one at a time. The colorful X then spins in place for the remainder of the loading process.
To install:
Code:
adb remount
adb push xspin_bootanimation.zip /system/media/bootanimation.zip
or flash the xspin_bootanimation-update.zip from your favorite recovery - installs to /data/local/bootanimation.zip
Enjoy
edit: thanks to gIMpSTa for the update.zip to flash from recovery!
UPDATE: Added ShinyX, a shinier version of the spinning X (00167.png is a shot of this shiny mod). Install process is the same; the update-zip will stick it in /data/local.
does it work to flash via recovery?

nice boot animation!!
Looks nice (per screenshots/description at least ). Haven't tried it yet, but am about to.
Here is a signed update.zip for anyone interested.
Codesplice, feel free to grab it and add to first post!
Edit: oh yeah, this update.zip puts it in /data/local not /system/media so this will probably only work cyanogenmod based roms.

thanks and it works with the Froyo ROM! I'm using it.

is it possible to make a version with big "first" letters? like Nexus One (now it's nexus one) no big deal but I like to have big letters first

Oh sweet. For some reason I thought I remembered cyanogen adding the ability to use /data/local for bootanimation but perhaps I was mistaken

Hmm. I suppose I could... I was just pulling those letters from the logo at google.com/phone, though, and it was in lowercase there. I don't know what the font is so I'm not sure I could 100% reproduce the same letter shapes with capital letters. I'll see if I can pull that off tomorrow though.
Any chance of a gif or a youtube video? I don't have my phone at the mo (at HTC being repaired) but this sounds awesome

Quality might be slightly less here (and speed might be a little quicker, by the looks) then on the phone, but you'll get the idea
Edit:
BTW, I used this awesome tool to make the preview gif -> link

lol, sorry, not tonight. We'll see how much free time I have tomorrow.
In the meantime, I'm still trying to figure out why I can't get the update.zip I created to work... it works fine when I build it to install to /system/media/, but fails with a syntax error when I change the directory structure and update-script to point at /data/local/. :-/
Could actually use some help on this if anyone feels so inclined.
File structure:
Code:
-data
--local
---bootanimation.zip
-META-INF
--com
---google
----android
-----update-script
update-script contents:
Code:
show_progress 0.1 0
copy_dir PACKAGE:data DATA:
show_progress 0.1 10
I created the UNIX-format update-script file using Notepad++.
Doesn't seem to be much syntax to screw up there, but each time I try to flash the resulting zip (after signing and such) I get "E: Syntax error in update script".
This setup works fine if I change the directory structure for bootanimation.zip to "system/media", and change the copy_dir line to "copy_dir PACKAGE:system SYSTEM:".
I don't get it
edit: LOL, rebooted after pushing the update.zip to the sdcard and it worked fine. I dun get it still, but at least it works :-D
Wow.this is a very nice boot animation.. good work!
NFX-Sprint.STOCK.2.32.651.2.ODEX.A2SD
This is the New Update from Sprint this is a completely stock rom with everything from the factory included.
You can use this as either an update or a full reflash, it will keep you data during istall. I still suggest a full wipe but it is not needed

This should be more that an optimal setup for 85% of most users. If you feel the need to tweak further then you need to remove these 2 files from system/etc/init.d/ folder
File 1: 05dalvik2cache - controls dalvik
File 2: 06memtweak - controls memory settings
and then reboot.
I set this so you can flash and use with the best experience possible.

Awesome! Downloading now. Thank you very much once again. Time to back up all my apps and nandriod and flash this thing once again.
EDIT: So can I just flash this or do we need to do a full wipe? I would prefer not to as I have way to many apps and settings and all that stuff and would save me alot of time if I didnt have to restore all that stuff. Either way, I wont mind if I have to, just dont want to if I dont have to.

It probably will, but things like the trackball won't
lets see if I get the whole thing this time... last time only got 48mb...
Had thought about going back to stock, updating via OTA, doing the one click root and then restoring this over-top to get the new baseband...
but discovered everytime I try and RUU my phone back to .6, I get a message about the bootloader causing the RUU to fail... (at least it didn't brick my phone like I'd initially feared).

Advantages:

...there are two latent benefits to having odexed apps; decreased usage of dalvik-cache (thus, more space in /data) and decreased first-boot time after a wipe.

Disadvantages:
jubeh said:
The disadvantage of odexed apps is that, unless the classes.dex is kept inside the .jar or .apk, the app and framework are bound to each other (though an odexed framework can still be used under a full set of non-odexed apks, but not the other way around). This removes mix-and match, and it was the reason why I was waiting for a more current hero-dump that didn't have all it's apps and frameworks odexed...

This is just something quick that I threw together after i was asked some questions regarding creating .odex files and the entire dexopt mechanism.
I searched for scripts that allowed me to do this quickly but I only found half assed ones that really didn't fit my needs.
So here's a rough preview of the script: http://pastebin.com/PKxvzMmR
How it works:
After you flash the update.zip below, you'll have both the d3xopt.sh script and the dexopt-wrapper binary. You'll then simply jump into shell
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
and type "d3xopt.sh" and it'll spout out a brief overview of the script:
Code:
Clearing dalvik-cache
Directions:
This script allows you to create .odex files
to optimize dalvik runtime
How to use:
FR - Framework
SA - System Apps
ALL - Framework/System Apps
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
DO NOT DEXOPT SYSTEM APPS THEN FRAMEWORK.
ALWAYS DEXOPT FRAMEWORKS THEN SYSTEM
APPLICATIONS.
WRONG ORDER WILL RESULT IN ANDROID
RUNTIME ERRORS.
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
Example: d3xopt.sh FR creates the .odex files for core.jar, ext.jar, framework.jar, android.policy.jar, and services.jar in boot order as to not create any problems with runtime. This follows the order set forth by Jubeh here.
I did put in a few 'checks' that will stop the script from running. Right now it's just rough. (checks for Phone.odex and core.odex before initializing, if present, it exits).
Make sure that you nandroid before you run this script, that way, when you get a spam of force closes, you don't have to cry yourself to sleep.

Also, be sure that if you want to keep an app's ability to be upgraded, don't odex it (actually, don't even have it in /system, toss it to /data/app)

try odexing on a fresh install before installing anything, also the fc's after the script runs will happen atleast if its anything like the other odex script i used on the vogue, also clearing the dalvik cache AFTER the script runs wont do too much since the dalvik cache gets emptied by the odexing process
Also before you run the script make sure you have atleast 15% of system space left or bad things can happen, and like the Op said is more than a few words, once its odex'd you can never theme it
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Yeah, I dont have much space due to fierats. The dalvik cleared first, I was just out of order on my posting I do to much with themes on phone for this. I didnt see that it wouldnt work, or cause themes in future from working. Boredom, see a new thing and I wanna try it! Anything that can help the Hero is worth a shot
Yea dzo posted a thread about it in the vogue forums, the OP here doesn't exactly say it here but its true and yea FR could cause a problem

I was just about to chip in with the same question, I've got a Flytouch 3, we also can't get into ADB via the usb port, if we could run this script as a stand alone working off a directory with the files on a PC it would be extremely useful
hey Deca, wondering if there is a way to use this for /data/app ? I have evo3D now, LOTS of apps, and it boots wicked slow :/
Hi did this ever get updated for GB ??

Edit 4-3-2011: Request has been fulfilled by kpkimmel. See this thread for his ps1 and Sega boot screens.
preview of ps1 boot screen below.
I saw someone made a boot animation with the PS3 startup screen and it made me really nostalgic for the playstation 1 startup (both bios and os screens). In my opinion, the PS1 startup was the best ever! Can anyone make the PS1 startup below into a boot animation? Preferably with sound? To me the sound is the best part!
Thanks in advance to anyone who would indulge a hopeless girl geek!
lmao OMG!!!! ... :,) that was a blast yea i'd love that
give this a try, push to your phone, should work, didnt' test it just kinda rushed it...so hopefully you enjoy. Thanks.
Also i uploaded two different ones, they are the same boot animation just tweaked a little bit because some evos boot slower or faster than others..so try one and if it works great, if not, try the other one.
Also included flashable.zip so you can flash from recovery.

Thank you, your donation is much appreciated as i am attempting to start development for Sprint Android devices fulltime.
So im running CM7 #33 and just tried flashing the third down "PS1_flashable.zip" that didnt work. So I tried just using root explorer and moving the first lnk into the system->media and deleting my other boot animation and that didnt work either any body can point me in the right direction?
None of these attachments work.
Matt, what part failed? Did you get an error message while flashing? I think if you are doing this manually you have to move both the SPC_animation_final.mp3 sound file and the bootanimation.zip included in the ps1_bootanimation.zip file into /system/customize/resource/. That's where they are on my system and it works fine.

I hot it working now, just without sound.
the sound should work just fine, not sure if your putting in the /system/media part if the spc_animation_final.mp3 has a different name or not, i'll look it up and get back

Yea I tried flashing it first and it did give me a weird message appeared but it did say it installed fine. However that didn't work so I tried manually putting it in my System->Media section and that was no go.
I did unzip one of the files and put both the SPC.mp3 file and the boot animation.zip in my System-media and it worked this time only without the sound
^
But that could be because im running CM7 and I don't think it can play sounds while booting up, But I could be wrong?
Also it was pretty short loading up and was black screen for the better part of it rebooting any way to get it to repeat or load up slower so it stay's on the scrren longer.
Whew...I do love it though! So thanks
to slow the boot seq just go into the bootanimation.zip open the desc.txt and change the 60p to a lower number.

I have this problems sometimes.. it's a problem of space in /system. You only have 105Mb in system, so bigger images dont copy all the files. In your case dont copy sh, so no shell, so no logcat or anything

I have this problems sometimes.. it's a problem of space in /system. You only have 105Mb in system, so bigger images dont copy all the files. In your case dont copy sh, so no shell, so no logcat or anything

Yes and no. You need to delete files so all the files fit in the system partition. Usually you can remove a handful of apps without any impact on the system.
